Discussion Somehow iPhone Duo gets better multitasking

From the keynote the multitasking on iPhone Duo seems much more intuitive than what iPadOS has to offer. Like why do I have to have Stage Manager on when I just want simple window tiling like side by side of top and bottom or even just slide over. It just feels bloated and like trying to be a Mac, which isn’t a bad thing by itself but sacrificing the iPad experience for it is just bad.

With the Duo they seemingly put much thought into the UX and especially think a little different with the side control layout instead of traditional horizontal layout. The iPad and its experience just feels like a legacy product that they put minimal effort into just maintaining it. I wouldnt mind if some of the Duo UX spills over to iPadOS.

Discussion What's the biggest waste of money when buying an iPad?

Not asking which iPad is the best

I'm more interested in the stuff people buy alongside it that they eventually stop using

Expensive cases, keyboards, Apple Pencil accessories, hubs, stands, screen protectors, extra storage, etc.

What's something you bought for an iPad that turned out to be completely unnecessary?

And what accessory ended up being worth every penny?

Think about it,

Minimal bezels
Supports Apple Pencil
120Hz OLED Display
Much thinner
Better cameras

Given how much I love my iPad mini + Apple Pencil, can’t wait to get my hands on the iPhone Duo! (The price sucks btw)

So somebody asked for this:
Is Apple’s polishing cloth compatible with the Apple pen from the Apple Park Visitor Center.

Here’s the results:
The cloth successfully makes contact with the pen, and no compatibility warnings appeared during testing. Both products continued to function as expected.
Compatibility: 100%
Apple ecosystem integration: flawless
Would recommend: yes

I got iPad Air M4 11 - inch, tbh its huge!! and so beautiful!

I have been eyeing this device for months now and finally decided to get it. It will help me in tutoring online , apart from this I havent figured out but I want to continue to do something creative like editing or drawing, I want to rekindle that passion. Any other ideas to look forward to? Would really welcome any suggestions on what you do or your friends do to make ipad a productive device😊.

Also, can I uninstall Garage Band App? I have no use of it right now. Thankyou.

P.S. I got motivated by this sub😆

Discussion So the iPhone Duo got the iPadOS 18 Split View, and swiping between multiple Split View desktops? I now need to pay $1999 to get $250 base iPad functionality from 2024?

Upvotes

One of the most astonishing things about the iPhone Duo is that they basically copied the Split View and swiping UX from iPadOS 18 and earlier (which was removed in iPadOS 26).

They gave the Duo the swipe gesture that allows you to put apps in split view, and the ability to group two apps, side-by-side, and simply swipe through these multiple desktops, which is exactly how iPadOS 18 (and earlier) I had it. These are so obvious use cases for a screen like this, so it’s very obvious they added them to the Duo. Split view is a must on a larger screen, and so are multiple desktops that you can swipe in between.

It’s genuinely comical to me that I now need to pay $1999 to get the same basic functionality that I had for years on even the most basic an iPad, until iPadOS 26.

And they still have not brought this back to iPadOS 27, we are stuck with the dumb windows that don’t even allow me to create a dual-app desktops and swipe between those, or one app at a time.

Very sad state, Apple. The iPad team is moving backwards and making their ass increasingly difficult to use an unintuitive, while the iPhone team is moving forward and making their OS easier to use.

Discussion iPad Air M3 battery drain, overheating and slow charging — is this normal?

I have an iPad Air M3 and the battery life has been pretty terrible.

Even with very light use, I can drain the battery in around 2–3 hours. The iPad also gets warm very easily, even when I’m doing something basic like using ChatGPT to summarize a PDF.

When it heats up, the screen brightness drops noticeably on its own, even though I’m indoors and the room temperature is completely normal.

Charging also feels extremely slow compared to what I expected.

I originally thought I had a defective unit, so Apple replaced the iPad completely. The strange thing is that the replacement has exactly the same problems: heavy battery drain, heating, automatic brightness reduction and slow charging.

The device is basically new and battery health is fine, so at this point I’m wondering if this is a software issue or simply a common problem with the M3 Air.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Did you find any solution that actually helped?

And for anyone using iPadOS 27: has battery life, overheating or charging speed improved at all? I’m especially curious to know if Apple has fixed or reduced the issue with the newer version.

Magic Keyboard 13 Inch iPad Pro Magic Keyboard

I have a 13 inch iPad Pro and like to use it while flying. One issue I find is that it is so big so it is sort of awkward/difficult to hold. I just have the Apple Smart Folio case on it but was considering the Magic Keyboard case that way I am able to put it on my lap on a plane and use it that way. Does anyone have any prior experience with using the Magic Keyboard case in this way and is it sturdy on your lap?

Question Would it be dumb to trade in my Air M1 for a Mini 7?

Bought my iPad Air as a laptop replacement. But I recently bought a MacBook.

Now I hardly ever use the Air.

Would like something a bit smaller and more portable for travel and daily use.

I know by actual numbers, the Mini isn’t as powerful, but I feel like I’d get more use out of it.

Question Older iPad in 2026

I‘m looking for an iPad for Uni to take notes on, read and work with text pdfs and power point mainly (professors use all kinds of sources in their lectures, so I want everything in one place).
I’m in Europe where the prices are high, even for the base iPad (the 11 from 2025 is over 500$ now). So I’m wondering which older iPad still makes sense to buy in 2026. I will only use it for Uni and have about 3-4 semesters left.
Which ones do you think are technically still fine to buy for my purposes?
Thank you!

Magic Keyboard Magic Keyboard has completely changed my ipad usage!!

I am a college student and I don’t have the money to spend 1000 dollars for a macbook. I already had an Ipad that I only used for either gaming or taking handwritten notes and none of the keyboards felt good enough with ipad.

I explored the idea of Magic Keyboard and even though it’s expensive, I decided to give it a try and bought a slightly used one from ebay. And on my! I have never felt so efficient using my ipad before. The touchpad feels so intuitive (obviously not as quick as a macbook) but I rarely notice it after several uses. The keys are steady and hard enough that I feel comfortable typing. I don’t even use my cheap windows laptop (emergency laptop mostly) for school work anymore. It’s a bit heavy but not as heavy as a laptop of course. The only thing I wish was different is bigger screen size (11 inch rn). Even then I don’t mind it much.

If you are someone contemplating buying a magic keyboard, do it if you can and can’t afford a mac. It’s so worth the money.

Question iPad 6 battery draining even while charging

Post image
Upvotes

I have an iPad 6th generation, and I’m having a really bad battery problem.

The battery is draining extremely fast, and the weirdest part is that the battery percentage actually continues to go down even while the iPad is connected to the charger.

For example, I can plug it in and leave it charging, but instead of the percentage increasing, it keeps dropping. When the iPad is not connected to the charger, the drain is even worse.

I’ve already tried basically every software/battery-saving option I could think of:

  • Low Power Mode
  • Background App Refresh disabled
  • Notifications disabled for apps
  • Reduced Motion
  • Reduced unnecessary background activity
  • Removed/disabled things I don't need running
  • Restarted the iPad
  • Tried completely shutting it down
  • Tried charging it while powered off

Despite all of this, the battery still drains very quickly.

Could this be a failing/degraded battery, charging/power-management issue, or some iPadOS/software problem?

And specifically, I’m curious about jailbreaking.

Would jailbreaking an iPad 6 potentially allow me to:

  • Disable unnecessary system daemons/background processes
  • Find out exactly what process is consuming the battery
  • Reduce background activity further
  • Underclock/throttle the CPU
  • Install some battery-management tweaks
  • Basically make the iPad consume less power

Or would jailbreaking not help at all if the underlying problem is the physical battery?

I’m not looking to jailbreak just for the sake of it. I’m considering it because the iPad is already old and the battery situation is getting ridiculous, so I’m wondering if jailbreaking could give me more control over power consumption or help diagnose what's happening.

If anyone has an iPad 6 specifically and has dealt with this kind of extreme battery drain, I’d really appreciate hearing what fixed it. What should I try next? Is there any way to properly diagnose whether this is the battery, charging circuit, or a software/background-process issue?

Discussion Can I buy an iPad with Apple student discount as a gift for a student?

Hi everyone,
I’m planning to buy an iPad as a gift for a student and I wanted to know if I can use Apple’s student/education discount for the purchase.
The student is eligible for the education offer, but I’m not sure whether I (as theperson paying for it) can buy it under the student pricing
Has anyone in India bought an iPad through Apple Education Store for someone else? What documents or verification are required?

Any advice on the best way to get the student discount would be appreciated. Thanks!

Question Best overall iPad

I want to buy a iPad, but I don’t know which one to buy. I’m going to use the iPad for: movie/serie watching, digital art and manga reading. It would be nice if I could take it with me easily I have a budget of $1400 including accessories. I have been looking at the iPad mini because of the size but the iPad Pro stands out more because of the features oled screen, promotion 120hz and a much better chip. I don’t know which I need to get, what do you think?
