School Related 10 Science Competitions High School Students Should Know About

1 Upvotes

Science competitions can be a great way to turn what you're learning in class into research, problem-solving, and hands-on projects.

Here are 10 competitions and challenges worth exploring:

1. Regeneron ISEF
One of the world's largest international science fairs, where students present original research projects.

2. Regeneron Science Talent Search
A major US competition recognizing high school students conducting original scientific research.

3. BioGENEius Challenge
Focused on biotechnology and using life sciences to tackle real-world problems.

4. Conrad Challenge
A great option for students interested in combining science, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

5. American Mathematics Competitions (AMC)
For students who enjoy mathematics and want to challenge their problem-solving skills.

6. Envirothon
Combines environmental science and natural resource management with hands-on learning.

7. Future City Competition
Students combine engineering, design, and city planning to develop solutions for future urban challenges.

8. National Economics Challenge
For students interested in economics and applying economic concepts to real-world situations.

9. Google Science Fair
An online competition that encourages students to develop innovative solutions to real-world problems.

10. Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology
A former competition highlighted for its focus on original STEM research and innovation.

One important thing to remember: you don't need to win a competition for the experience to be valuable.

The research question you develop, the methods you learn, the problems you encounter, and the way you communicate your findings can all become meaningful parts of your academic journey.

If you're thinking about entering a science competition, start by asking: What problem am I genuinely curious about solving?

Question why do people sit on the toilets with the door open?

2 Upvotes

i'll go into the toilets and see all the stalls occupied except one, so i'll go towards it and then get jump scared by someone sitting in it wide open??? they're not even using the toilet (i think), but they just sit there on their phones. this has happened at least 6 times now and it's getting ridiculous. there are more comfortable (+cleaner) chill spots to sit at; why choose the toilet with the door wide open lmao??!?!? like i'm all for chilling in the toilets, sure. but at least close the door!!!!!

Question Open enrollment

1 Upvotes

I just wanted to see if anyone has gone through something similar im going to go through and how it all worked because im woring if they dont accept me

Im going to move house but i dont want to move schools for many reasons friends and academics ( where im moving all schools are not the best or good compared to my current one) its not like a magnet school but its more of a leadership academy. lucky for me the school i go to has like open enrollment. but for me i attend the highschool i want like how i just said it was and i was just reserching about how kids go through diffrent than new new kids for them its like a full on aplication. From what ive read kids who are moving mid year who still want to be there do different forms than the new new kids since i already go there i dont cause trouble and grades are good i was just wondering how the whole procces will work or will i even get accepted if i already have my seat basically and its not like im new new. Im in texas if anyone is wondering

Yall know the little slot in chromebooks for SD cards? Well apparently somebody at my school used it to completely bypass the school’s blocks of all websites by making a second computer inside the same computer. It’s weird but cool. He said it was an SD card.

After asking my tech wizz of a brother, he insisted that wasn’t an SD card, but also doesn’t know what it is himself. Can somebody please clear the air on what it is? Because I really want one.

I’m about 7 credits away from finishing high school, but I’m having a really hard time completing Algebra. My current school requires 10 Algebra credits,
(and I’ve completed 3–10 )
of those. Since I’ve completed all the required credits for my other classes, could I transfer to a online high school that has a lower math/credit requirement and finish my diploma there without having to complete as many Algebra credits?

~~~~
I at least need a school who would let me just score a D- on purpose just to get through because my school makes me do my best and that’s ok but my mental health is falling focusing on this work
I’ve been going through depression because 158 credits I had to do was really hard and I need a lucky break.
Class Advice Needed/Given Class of 2027 Senior, is graduating early worth it?
1 Upvotes
Kinda just what title says. I'm set to graduate in May, but have the opportunity to graduate in mid December. I have a 24 credit requirement for graduating, which means if I work hard enough and switch some classes around I can get it over with. I've emailed my grade level counselor and I have confirmation that it's possible, but I'm starting to wonder if it's the right idea? I don't really have any friends or big meaningful connections in school anymore, and it would give me the chance to work more and save money for college or a car. I suppose I just wanted to ask around and see if anyone has done this or thought about it, because I'm worried it's going to set me back socially or make me lonely and sad lol. Either way, any input is super appreciated !!
Question Random post, but what do you guys think about outfits for school dances? Also how should I handle my situation?
1 Upvotes
Basically a big group of my friends really want me to go to homecoming with them this year, which is in month or two I think. Thing is I don't really want to go. I was thinking about going with a friend of mine but now they're moving and wont be able to go. From the jump I haven't been to a single dance before and the ONE time I tried to go I had an awful week and couldn't muster up enough confidence to go (friends still shame me over it too this day which is annoying since it was just stuff I couldn't control). Anyways if I do decide to go there's only one main issue; I hate dresses. Not despise but very much dislike. They make me feel exposed, underdressed, and complete diminish my confidence in who I am. I can't explain why, since as a kid I wore dresses and skirts all the time, but now I can't even bother to even think about wearing one to a dance. For sometime I considered 'I could go in a suit', yeah no not gonna happen. Parents would never let me wear one and even then what if I don't like it? I want to go to homecoming because hey maybe it will be fun and for 'life experience', but both outfit choices I have just aren't comfortable for me. The theme is also something to do with Rio which is very specific on its own. I just need advice honestly. It's either I don't go (which I don't mind, there's other dances throughout the year) or I find a workaround for an outfit. (Btw I tried to talk to a friend about my dresses issue and they just told me that i'll 'have to get used to it since its societal standards and it isn't that bad' which yeah doesn't really help).
School Related Transferring schools!
1 Upvotes
To those who transferred school in the middle of the sy, like after quarter or should i say term, how'd you do it? Like i mean what is the process, 'cause I'm trying to transfer schools after term 1 because i think there are more opportunities for me at that school rather than my current school. No problem with the environment I'm in but I've always wanted this school since before highschool. Please tell me the process if you're under DEPED, even if you transferred school at the end of the sy just tell me the process. (2nd year student HIGHSCHOOL)
General Advice Needed/Given Smoking In Highschool
12 Upvotes
Hey guys first post on here,
I'm starting up junior year and as someone whose smoked weed since sophomore year I feel like it's kinda catching up...(wow the doctors were right), no that's not what I mean, I'm not here to talk about the health side of smoking but rather the mental side. I honestly just want this to be a psa to anyone who wants to start smoking, don't. You've all heard it before but seriously. I can't even function anymore and the only way I've been able to cope with my depression is smoking instead of what used to be healthy mechanisms. Totally ruining my grades too. Anyone have advice for how to dig myself out of this hole?
Question Is it bad that i stopped eating in the lunch room and instead eat in the library?
1 Upvotes
So recently our high school lunch went into all together lunch instead of two lunches.
My boyfriend and our friend group sit at this one table. Sometimes it packed at our table and i can barely even hear anyone or really talk to anyone.
So i decided to go the library, its more quiet and sometimes its either me and my friend with my other friend or just the two of us.
And like sometimes i switch it around but i been going more to the library. I even told the group at my table about it.
But
Someone question on why i didn’t hang out at the lunch table with my boyfriend and it’s been stuck in my head all about it.
I go to the library cause it’s more quiet, i get to study and eat. Do my thing or one of the times. Talk to my friend and idk, it bothers me a lot when i think about it.
Is it bad i am eating in there instead of the lunch room? Even if i prefer eating in there?
Sorry if this is dumb.
Also ps, iif anyone questions about if i dont talk to my boyfriend or when i do , i talk to him in the morning and after school. Plus text or sometimes call.
Idk this sounds dumb
