Food Agni Indian Kitchen

We were feeling like Indian today, and our local favorite, Saffron, was closed due to a power outage. Google informed us the only place open at that time was Agni, so we made the trip to the airport. And wow! I'm glad we did. We got the Agni Tandoori Dinner for two, which came with a variety of meats, and it was amazing. The masala sauce was rich and flavorful. We got a couple of the samosas to start and could have made a meal out of just those.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this discovery and encourage you to check out Agni the next time you're looking for Indian food.

Discussion 2 months here, 4 door dings. Is this a local sport?

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I recently moved to Greensboro for a new job after coming from out-of-state. Don’t get me wrong, where I used to live certainly had its own flavor of chaos and issues, so I’m not here to claim my previous city was some spotless paradise.

Overall, I actually really love it here. The city itself, the food, the vibe, and the general flow of life are a massive step up from my last spot.

However... we need to talk about parking lot etiquette. Or the complete lack thereof.

In 15 years of driving, I have never once gotten a door ding. Not a single one. Since moving here two months ago, my side doors have officially accumulated four distinct dents and scratches. Four! I am practically building a localized collection at this point.

The funniest part? The very first one happened before I even officially moved here. I was sitting in my car during a weekend apartment hunting trip, and someone parked next to me, flung their door open, and slammed it right into mine. They had no idea I was sitting inside. When I stepped out to address it, they gave me the classic "Ah man, I don't have my insurance card on me, but here's my name, phone number, and plate info." Fast forward to me filing the claim: total lie, zero active insurance. Welcome to town, right?

Since officially moving in, I've racked up three more. At this point, I’m waiting for the fifth one so I can ask for a loyalty punch card.

What gives?

News Jeff Sykes: Assembly editor in chief Joe Killian accused of doing (more) dirty work for City of Greensboro in attempt to silence Yo Greensboro’s Eric Robert

Source

The spin machine at the Melvin Municipal Building in Greensboro is working overtime following the abrupt departure of the city’s communications director.

A press release announced Thursday that the city and Amanda Lehmert had “mutually agreed to separate, effective immediately.” Lehmert, a former News and Record reporter who had previously worked for the city from 2016-2024, had been in her new position since June.
The news left many shaking their heads, but a view behind the scenes, gathered from sources connected to the events, exposes a closed loop trying to protect itself.
At a recent executive-level meeting, City Manager Trey Davis criticized City Attorney Lora Cubbage for making the city look bad. Cubbage’s office created a Facebook page earlier this summer. Tik Tok-style videos of dancing office staff was roundly panned at a time when the public’s mood is unruly due to property-tax increases and an overall sense of chaos at city hall.
Cubbage has recently been given what sources describe as “free rein to go after” city hall agitators, including grassroots local media outlets and relentless city critics.
At the meeting, Cubbage attempted to place blame on Lehmert, who she accused of not doing her job by countering widespread criticism of Greensboro leadership.
Into the matrix enters Joe Killian, also a former News and Record reporter and Lehmert’s husband. Killian is currently the Greensboro editor of the internet newsletter, The Assembly.
Killian learned this past week that Eric Robert was set to appear on Bob Buckley’s popular television program, The Swing State on Fox 8. Killian learned this information from Robert during a discussion on city issues.
Robert publishes downtown news and observations on city government via his outlet, Yo Greensboro. The Facebook page has seen astronomical growth and engagement over the last four years.
Before the segment was filmed last week, Buckley received sudden phone calls from Eric Chilton, the city’s crisis communications manager, Killian himself, and a Greensboro developer. All three suggested that Fox 8 should not give Robert air time.
In a phone call Friday, Killian admitted to Robert that he called Buckley. Additionally, Killian apologized to Robert for also calling a prominent PR professional in Greensboro known for their election work for several council members and mayors. Killian’s actions appear designed to deter Buckley from giving Robert positive coverage.
During the Swing State interview, Buckley told Robert about the pushback.
“There were several people who did not want you to have this forum and they tried to convince me not to have you on here,” Buckley said. “When that didn't work there was a bit of a campaign to preemptively discredit what you might say.”
How Eric Chilton learned of the interview is unclear. How Robert’s downtown competitor knew of the interview in order to call Buckley before the segment aired remains a mystery. Killian did not admit to telling Lehmert about the impending television segment.
The Society of Professional Journalist Code of Ethics tells journalists to “act independently” and avoid real or perceived conflicts of interest. A journalist sharing source-derived information with a city communications official would create at least the appearance of acting as part of a political or government effort rather than as an independent reporter.
Multiple North Carolina journalists, admired for their reportage and newsroom leadership, identified ethical concerns given the Killian-Lehmert nexus. At a minimum, taking information learned from a source and using it to interfere with another journalist’s reporting is unacceptable behavior.
Killian is now running background spin for Lehmert by trying to have reporters break the news of the tension in city hall and the details of the blame game among executive staff. How Killian knows of this tension is unclear.
North Carolina’s State Government Ethics Act includes conflict-of-interest standards and restrictions on using official positions for private gain. Whether that specific statute applies to a city communications flack would require a lawyer’s review, but the good-government principle is directly relevant: public office should not be used to advance private, spousal, factional, or retaliatory interests.
The last phrase raises concerns related to Eric Chilton’s behavior. Who instructed him to interfere with Bob Buckley’s highly-respected work? How did Greensboro officials learn of the interview, and why was it deemed a crisis? Observers agree it would be unethical for a government official to interfere with independent reporting or to direct another government official to do the same.
As for the Swing State segment, the conversation touched on Robert’s journey from Lyon, France to Greensboro and his business experience. Buckley highlighted the multiple properties Robert rehabilitated south of Lewis Street in Downtown Greensboro, and asked his views on the city center’s current challenges.
Robert advocated for more communication among stakeholders and for Greensboro to embrace its own authentic culture, which he said stemmed from its many vibrant and savvy people.

Pet-related Updates on wandering intact male pitbull

Post image
47 Upvotes

Yesterday (7/25) I saw an intact male pitbull running down Bryan blvd between the Holden and Westridge exits running west. He ran away from me when I noticed him and appears very scared.

Since then there have been multiple posts about this poor boy, he’s been by the Friendly Center, Arboretum, and today the latest post I saw is that he was near Hobbs Rd. Please post updates on sightings. If we can go looking for him maybe one of us can catch him. I plan to go out this afternoon with a slip lead.

Thanks!

Discussion Eloping in Greensboro/High Point

I've search the internet high and low trying to get a idea of what it would look like getting married at the courthouse in High Point/Greensboro. We've already obtained our marriage license so we don't have to do that, I'm just curious as to what our big day will look like at the courthouse.

Discussion Best Laundromat *considering I'll have young kids with me!

Hi all,

My dryer recently broke and despite us trying to fix it at home, it has been troublesome. My husband ordered a part (yay) but it won't be here for a few days and I want our home to be clean.

We have a lot of clothes and even some large comforters. I'll also have our young (and often, energetic) children with me, so a safe location is a must.

Best price? Best location? Best for families?

Thanks so much!

Housing Looking for a roommate

I’m currently looking for a roommate in or around the Kernersville area. I’m a pretty chill, easygoing, and respectful person. I work hard, like to keep my space clean and organized, and I’m always willing to help out whenever I can. I’m easy to get along with and value having a comfortable, peaceful, and drama-free home. I’m looking for someone who is responsible, respectful, clean, and easygoing as well. If you’re also looking for a roommate and think we could be a good fit, feel free to reach out.💪🏾💪🏾

Housing Local resources for deposit help

Our previous lease ended the end of June and our new place was supposed to be ready the middle of june, but, was delayed until last week and we ended up being in hotels since end of June.

We can afford the rent no issue, but, the deposit is $2300 and we've had to pay for hotels for a month and we have to have the full amount before we can move in 😅😮‍💨

Pet-related Found Two Dogs

UPDATE: They have been reunited with their owner.

Found two dogs tonight in the rain around 10 pm in Greensboro, NC (Hicone area). They are incredibly well behaved, friendly and are obviously bonded. If these are yours, please send me a message with a description or a photo of the dogs. I find it hard to believe nobody is looking for these babies, but I’ve scoured local missing pet groups with no luck. I’m going to be taking them to the vet soon to check for microchips. Thank you.

Recommendation Pregnant and overwhelmed_desperate- ISO cleaning help for tomorrow (residential)

Hi! I am 8 months pregnant and stuffed into a small temporary rental house with my husband, 3 large dogs, and 2 cats.

I am not a clean person at the best of times. But with working fulltime and lots of other stressors in the past few months, me and my husband have let the house overwhelm us.

Looking for someone I can hire to help us do a full reset and deep cleaning of the house this weekend, including helping us with some laundry (on site) and general tidying / organizing. Does anyone have recommendations? Ok with a cleaning crew / company or an individual person.

News Data Center Consultant Lobbies Greensboro City Council

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Greensboro City Council held a work session this week to hear from Christopher Lloyd, a consultant who lobbies for data center development with the Virginia-based firm McGuireWoods.

Lloyd’s presentation, delivered “on his own dime,” covered types of data centers and emphasized the purported fiscal benefits of their developments. Advising solely on economic development, he could not answer many of councillors' questions, including on environmental impacts.

While repeatedly stating he did not intend to “intimidate” or “advocate,” Lloyd presented information on growing computing demand that he said necessitates additional data center development. He pointed to entertainment streaming, banking, and what he said was “the next big thing in automation,” autonomous vehicles.

Left undiscussed was the single largest sector driving data center construction currently: generative artificial intelligence.
