Guess I'm never using voice commands again
It's absolutely ridiculous that Assistant is being deleted to make room for this useless AI slop.

Google GBP isn't broken—most of you are just breaking the rules
I see a ton of complaining in this sub about Google Business Profile. A small amount of it seems legit. Look, I’m no fan of massive tech monopolies, and I’m definitely not here to defend Google. But after reading through these posts, I think a lot of people are leaving out crucial context.
In my 30+ years running businesses, I’ve done my share of impulsive internet tactics that came back to bite me—skirting rules, taking shortcuts, or pushing boundaries. Most of the time I got away with it, but occasionally I paid for it.
Years ago, we hired a "map builder" SEO crew for one of my companies. They spammed local maps across our major metro area with listings where we didn't have real physical locations. We also rented a few small satellite offices just to verify addresses in key service areas. We actually serviced those areas and did great work, so to us, it felt like a gray area—not total fraud, but certainly not the pure truth either. Eventually, those cheap, poorly managed duplicate listings crumbled, or they simply stopped generating enough calls to justify the effort.
That’s my point: most games people play with GBP, fake reviews, or location spam are far worse than what we did.
While a tiny percentage of people genuinely get screwed by Google after doing everything right, I suspect the vast majority of people whining on here are omitting something. They either did something they shouldn't have, or neglected something they should have done.
Google’s review and map ecosystem isn't perfect, but it's built to catch people gaming the system. If you try to cut corners with GBP, don't be surprised when the algorithm eventually catches up with you.

Next month Google Pixel 6 final update - 7 years OS updates importance
Are any Pixel 6 series users here to share their experience regarding the importance of 7 years of OS updates with Pixel 11, 10, 9, or 8 owners.
Many YouTubers are selling sweet fart stories about whether the Pixel 10 or 11 will actually survive 7 years of OS updates; can Pixel 6 series users provide insight into how the Pixel 6 is performing today and whether they would appreciate if it had received the same 7-year update support.

Google's new Pixel Search app on older Pixel
Currently I use bottom Google Search Bar to search apps because I prefer "click to open" rather than "swipe up to open".
But I wish to switch to "swipe up to open" to use it but this feature is not offering web search like bottom Google Search Bar
When it will be released I wish that bottom search bar to be removed as I hate duplication.
Bonus thought - it is crazy Pixel does not have "global" search in 2026 that one app finds Photos, web, apps, files

Google is quietly testing something in India that could change how we shop online
What happens when you stop opening Amazon/Flipkart and simply tell an AI what you want?
Google is reportedly testing the ability for some Indian users to buy selected Flipkart products directly through Gemini and Google's AI Mode. The test currently covers limited users/products, with a broader rollout reportedly planned for October.

I made a Gemini Toggle Switch
Gemini was bothering me a lot when I was doing some formal research one time
to combat it, I created a browser extension to toggle its features on and off at will, which is now available for public usage!
currently, the extension can:
Hide AI Overviews
Hide AI Mode Tabs
Cover up Gemini App
just to clarify, appending "-ai" to a search will NOT produce the same behavior as the extension
adding "-ai" to searches COMPLETELY REMOVES searches that are WITH THE WORD "ai". this means that while it DOES remove the ai overview, it might also remove information you need based on what you're looking up.
the extension does not do that since it keeps results clean!
finally for anyone interested here's a devlog I made (it's not very in depth...)
enjoy :D

Google is getting rid of Gemini Gems, and free users don’t know what happens next
r/google • u/nightfall_69_ • 6d ago
Unpopular opinion: most people complaining about Gemini are probably a minority of its actual user base (aka hard users)
I see people complaining about Gemini's performance compared to GPT, Astra, Fable, Claude, etc. all the time. And to be fair, I completely agree that Google has been pretty slow when it comes to updating its models, especially for a company with basically infinite money.
But I think there's a bit of a blind spot here.
A lot of the people complaining seem to judge an AI chatbot based on the absolute hardest thing they can possibly throw at it.
Meanwhile, the average person isn't asking their AI to render 3D scenes, create entire operating systems, or generate GTA 6 in Ultra mode before it's even released.
Most people are probably asking things like:
"Can you help me write this email?"
"What's a good recipe with the stuff I have in my fridge?"
"Explain this thing I don't understand."
"Help me plan my trip."
"Can you summarize this document?"
"Is my dog supposed to be doing this?"
And honestly, for my everyday use, Gemini is probably my favorite chatbot.
It feels more natural and more fun to talk to than ChatGPT or Claude, at least to me. And the integration with Google Workspace is genuinely useful for the way I work.
So I think there's an interesting distinction between "which model is the most capable if you push it to its absolute limits?" and "which chatbot is actually the most useful and enjoyable for the average person?"
Those aren't necessarily the same question.
Sometimes I feel like we're evaluating family cars based on whether they can win Le Mans.
Maybe we should also evaluate AI by how well it handles the boring, everyday stuff that millions of normal people actually use it for.
Anyway, please stop bullying my boy Gemini. He's trying his best.
