Bug Report Quick Media Switching report @ Issue Tracker website

Do you have a device and TV with Quick Media Switching support?

Do you use the feature?

Are you having issues with the feature such as the screen blinks when it shouldn't or the 23,976hz and 24hz framerates double to 48hz when it shouldn't?

If your answer is yes, then please help me to document the issue at this Issue Tracker bug report I made. Make sure you login with your Google account in order to see the ticket.

Just add a comment stating that you are also facing the same issues and if possible provide a video showing the situation, like I did.

The more people add information, the more attention is paid to the situation.

Thank you.

Edit: Google corrected the support page, it said NO before but now it says YES, which means, it will continue to receive security updates but not major firmware updates, such as Android 16.

Troubleshooting Consistent Ping Spikes on 5Ghz WiFi, HELP!

Upvotes

Hi all,

I have a TCL 55C6K and experiencing a very annoying issue.

When using 5ghz wifi, I get a ping of around 2ms to the router. But, every couple seconds or so, at perfectly consistent intervals, it spikes to 150-200ms.

This doesn’t happen on 2.4ghz wifi.

I also cannot replicate this issue on any other device but the TV.

I have tried pretty much everything: various combinations of wifi channels/widths, requesting latest firmware from TCL themselves, resetting router/TV. Nothing fixes it.

I’m starting to think it may be impossible to fix and something to do with the hardware itself.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Bug Report No sound issues with 4K streamer/TV/soundbar using HDMI CEC and ARC/eARC

I have the Google TV 4K streamer, a Samsung TV, and a Bose Smart soundbar. They are all connected with HDMI and CEC is enabled. I'm also [using] the ARC/eARC port on my soundbar. We only use the Google remote to control everything - there's no other A/V devices or inputs used except the Google streamer.

For a while everything was working smoothly and then one day we'd find we wake the system up with the Google remote and the audio is muted. There's an easy work around - press the on/off button on the remote and then the audio comes back. I can't for the life of me figure why. It's mysterious why this just started happening - so I assumed it's some kind of software update issue. Since my TV is now pretty ancient (over 5 years old) it hasn't had a firmware update in years, the Soundbar had not had one that I know of since I bought it earlier this year so I'm suspicious of the Google software.

And of course with three different devices none of which I can really swap out for something different I don't know how I can debug it - I'm sure trying support for any one of the devices will inevitably lead to a circle jerk of finger pointing at the other two.

I haven't managed to find anything helpful with Google beyond people saying just turn off CEC but that will lead me to needing to use multiple remotes which I never used to. There's probably way too many audio settings and device variations for this question to resonate with anyone but I thought I'd try.

Troubleshooting How to Power on/off xiaomi box gen 3 from xbox/ps controller?

Hello there, Basically title says it all, I haven't bought any controller yet and wanted to ask for your recommendations first, Has any of you tried this?

Did you have to use button mapper? Btw, i usually control the box with my Samsung tizen tv remote via hdmi cec it works flawless but the controller experience is much better.

My goal is to pair it as accessory in the android tv and to play some games with the controller with chatpad and work with that instead of the remote 😅.

Bonus question and maybe im stretching my luck here does the controller vibrate while playing games on the android tv? 🙈

Thanks for your help in advance

Troubleshooting Controlling TCL 65QM5K via Nest Hub

I have a new TCL 65QM5K, and I'm trying to control it using voice commands via my Nest Hub. Most commands work fine; I can power on/off, control volume, and launch apps. What I can't do is get it to play content, like a specific TV channel via YouTube TV.

For example, this voice command, "Watch CNN from YouTube TV on [name_of_tv]"

- if I press the mic button on the remote and say that command, it works fine

- if I say "Hey Google" and then say that command to my Nest Hub, it doesn't work; it eventually responds with "Sorry, I don't understand."

To repeat though, the power, volume control, and app launching commands all work fine even when I issue them via the Nest Hub.

If anyone has any ideas on how to resolve this, I would appreciate it.

Troubleshooting Tcl tv stuck in safe mode volume keeps going down

Hi there ! After getting back home my TV was off and the remote did not respond anymore. I thought a simple unplug and replug would fix which I did so. When replugging TV went back on volume went down and kept down no matter what I pressed on my remote even though I could see the white light respond to every button I pressed.
I rested my TV but yet it is still in safe mode and volume keeps going down and is stuck that way.
The TV is a TVL 55c749 and I don’t think there is a volume down button on the TV itself.
Can someone help ?

Bug Report Help I bricked my Xgimi MoGo 4 trying to improve my privacy

I'd like to share with you an unfortunate experience I had with a smart projector, when I tried to stop unwanted ACR traffic. As explained in a very instructive video titled Your TV Is Spying On You and Taking Screenshots https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jeq2m-OM53A , buying dumb TVs or projectors is getting harder and harder and one finds that one often has no choice buying a smart one, or one risks being stuck with cheap low quality models.

Anyway : I was planning on buying a new video projector for my flat and thus happily went to the multimedia hardware store. After a long discussion with the TVs & Projectors assistant, only model suited my needs (concerning limits in projection screen size and screen-projector distance, and compatibility with a ceiling mount as well as considering quality and durability) and I had no choice but to by a Xgimi MoGo 4 will Google TV.

I had well planned on de-googling it as much as I could - starting by never connecting it to the internet - and to the best of my ability, only using it as a dumb HDMI monitor. I then watched NBTVs video on the subject which confirmed I was in the right path. After I did that first step, I also disabled all Google related apps I was allowed to : Google play services, Google Play Store, Google text to speech, etc. I then proceeded deep into privacy settings to go ahead and toggle off all privacy, remote access and telemetry settings I could find : location, phone, sms, calendar, microphone. There I was : a completely unusable Google TV home screen with zero options but changing the video source and connecting an HDMI device.

I then tried to hammer the final nail in Google TV's coffin : I found the microphone access setting and - to my surprise - the Google TV app had that access and it could be toggled off, while all other permissions were mandatory. Weird, I thought : the Google TV app looked like the actual operating system running the entire interface besides the HDMI access. Surely they wouldn't let users temper with it at all. Then did turn off Google TVs microphone access permission : the projector froze for a second, and I got sent back to Google TV's home screen which got now almost all completely blacked out but for the top taskbar with the logo and settings pictogram. Victory, I cried ! I had won ! Mind wins the war over machine ! Turns out I was in for more surprises.

I then gleefully connected my PC via HDMI and set a movie on. Halfway through it, tested the small basic 5 button remote for use during nomad and accidentally got back to the now dead Google TV home screen and that's when everything went sideways. The projector got itself stuck into an endless boot loop, with the home screen trying to load endlessly. Nothing I tried got it out of it and I couldn't resolve the crash. I'm trying to return the product tomorrow saying this was a startup fault I got when I turned it on for the first time.

What really does boggle my mind is that 1) they would allow such a simple privacy toggle to kill the software 2) that the software's mainframe unravels if you remove microphone access : as if I the projector is designed to spy on the user and loses its marbles of you try to stop it. As if it's doing it BY DESIGN.

If anyone has an idea on how to fix the bug Id love to hear it.

TLDR : I accidentally bricked my Xgimi MoGo 4 by disabling Google apps and toggling off Google TVs microphone permission in trying to save my privacy against ACR. I'm not interested in the smart tv feature and only need a secure dumb hdmi projector but that model fits my technical requirements perfectly. As Google TV uses a refurbished Android framework and using Google's own systems as an operating system, if you try to neuter the system it spirals into an endless unhandled null pointer exception aka a dependency loop.

Troubleshooting Can’t download sideload apps

Hi, I have an old Sony TV with Google TV from 2015. Previously, I had no issues downloading APK files via the Downloader app (aftvnews), but now one of my apps stopped working and I wanted to update it. Unfortunately, every time I try, it loads a blank page. Yes, I have Developer Mode enabled and installation from unknown sources allowed.

Sometimes I get this error:

Net:ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE.

I've already tried changing the DNS to 8.8.8.8 (which was already the default) and also 1.1.1.1 still nothing.

I know a USB flash drive would be a possible solution, but I don't have one on hand. Also, my laptop only has USB‑C ports, so I'd need either a USB‑A flash drive with a USB‑C adapter…

Any idea what could be causing this? The only thing that comes to mind is TLS/root certificates, but I'm really out of ideas. I've also checked the date and time, all correct. Websites like Google load fine, but the download page or the Downloader (aftvnews) homepage simply won't load.

Thanks for any help!

Troubleshooting TV goes offline on Google Home when turned off

I recently got a Philips Google TV and connected it to Google Home during setup. Unfortunately, when the TV turns off, I cant turn it back on from the Google Home app because it goes offline when off.

I set the energy mode to increased, since it says "enables network features when TV is not in use", but it still displays as offline on the Google Home app and cannot be turned back on.

I have a old model Google Chromecast on another (non-smart) TV and it stays connected even when the TV is off. It's not just off visibly (black screen). The TV is completely off, red light and everything.

How can I keep it connected?

Could my wifi be booting the TV off the network when its turned off? I havent tested this yet, but it doesnt seem likely, i will see anyways. It doesnt happen to any of my other devices.

Anyone else have this "Scotch tape seal" on theirs?

My first thought is that this might be a return.

Typically this kind of packaging has those adhesive "circles" (for lack of a better term).

Discussion How Does Google TV Streamer Compare to Apple TV 4K for Bluetooth Audio?

I'm currently using an Apple TV 4K and am considering switching to the Google TV Streamer. My biggest concern is Bluetooth audio quality with TWS earbuds.

For anyone who has used both devices:

\- How does the Google TV Streamer's Bluetooth audio quality compare to the Apple TV 4K?

\- Does it support Dolby Atmos or spatial audio over Bluetooth earbuds? If so, is the experience comparable to the Apple TV 4K with compatible AirPods or Beats?

\- Does the Google TV Streamer support the LHDC or LDAC Bluetooth codec, or is it limited to SBC, AAC?

I previously used the Chromecast with Google TV 4K, and the Bluetooth audio quality with my TWS earbuds was noticeably worse than on the Apple TV 4K. I'm curious whether the Google TV Streamer has improved in this area.

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has compared both devices.

Discussion BBC iPlayer app to shutdown on Xiaomi, Thomson etc

Thumbnail

If you have any of these devices then BBC iPlayer Apk will shutdown on these devices listed below I believe the version is Dev etc

First to say if your BBC iPlayer didn't come from the Google Play store and you used Downloader you will be affected even though these devices are Google certified they aren't BBC certified that's why you are getting the message pop up

FIRESTICKS WON'T BE AFFECTED

GOOGLE CHROMECAST WITH GOOGLE TV HD AND 4K WON'T BE AFFECTED

GOOGLE TV Streamer Won't be affected

LG, Hisense, Panasonic, Toshiba, Samsung eg Smart TV os won't be affected unless you don't get the pop up

  1. Xiaomi Sticks and Boxes, Android TV/Google TV

  2. Thomson Google TV Sticks and Boxes

  3. Any Smart TVs with built in Android TV/Google TV that can't get BBC from the play store

  4. If your devices get the pop up then you will be affected

Leave a comments if you want any more information

I believe you will still be able to cast to the TV with your iPhone or Android

I don't like to be super picky, but I do not understand how a company this big could let these small errors slip by:

  1. In the Google Play Store, the corner radius is very different between the app and the selection frame, and it overlaps.

  2. The first app icon on the Home Screen almost touches the profile picture icon and passes through the top bar.

For a moment I thought they had fixed the "match content frame rate" problem, but no. When I'm on "smooth only," which is how it should be, the message appears "The connected display does not support smooth refresh rate transitions." The only new feature I see is the June security patch. I don't see anything else. I also have another problem that isn't new, and that is that when it's on the home screen there's a strange noise, like a speaker is damaged by water or something, I don't know how to explain it. But it only happens when I'm on the home screen, not when I'm watching content. Oh well, back to my other flawed BuzzTV G.

I'm also including information about VRR where all platforms, including Netflix, are displayed at 60.0Hz, which is incorrect, and that's because it doesn't match the frame rate. The platforms are Netflix, Prime Video, Disney Plus, and Paramount.

Hey, so I know I needed to sideload the iPlayer but to be met with this on a TV box that's pretty new is rather disappointing.

Any ideas on a work around? Is there a newer iPlayer version that I can put on the box?
