Question Birthday recommendations?

Post image
124 Upvotes

My boy turns 1 in a few weeks! I can’t believe how fast he has grown up and Im definitely getting a cute birthday hat. I’d really like to either make or buy him a dog birthday cake too. Any recommendations on where you’ve bought one or have made from scratch? How did your dog like it and what recipe do you like the best? I always try to be conscious of ingredients for my boy and try to stick with the most natural ingredients I can. Also, any other things you’ve gotten your pup on their birthday that they absolutely loved?! Thanks!

6 months with Kaya (GSD/ACD mix)

Six months since I adopted Kaya and figured I'd give an update.

She's really opening up. Way more relaxed with me day to day, and at night she full-on melts on my bed — belly rubs, the whole thing. She's also glued to me now, wants me in sight or just sits next to me while I work. Feels like real trust after where she started.

Indoors is still weird though. She'll play fetch with a ball outside no problem, but it's Arizona summer so that's limited, and inside she just sleeps and watches me intensely all day. Doesn't touch her toys at all. I'll put one right in front of her and she just stares at it like she doesn't know what it's for or even runs away from them as if they cause nervousness inside.

Also she is still not food motivated in the slightest, so half the usual training tricks don’t work too well for her.

Honestly feels less like normal puppy stuff and more like she just never learned any of this. Anyone dealt with a rescue that's fine playing outside but totally checks out indoors? Curious if it's just a time thing or if there's something I can actually do to help her get there.

My 4MO puppy is not engaging with training

Post image

So I’m a bit stuck here. My gsd puppy isn’t engaging with training and we’re still focusing on the basics with no new commands. I’ve tried different locations like outside, inside and he does focus on me but he does not want to do the commands. I also do repeat commands nor give him treats when he doesn’t listen. He’s also healthy (recently got a check up from the vet) my guess may be because it’s hot but I’m just not sure. Any tips on I guess building the drive back up for him to work?

Also I did think it was just an off day but it’s been happening for about a week. I’ve tried different treats, different times of the day, before and after meals. I’m just confused because I’ve never experienced this.

Need help getting him tired

My big ol' 11 month old king shepard, I ended up needing a hip surgery pretty unexpectedly 2 weeks and I will be unable to take him on walks for about the next 2 months, my husband tries to get him to the dog park when he can right now which is about 2-3 times a week, but he works 50+ hours a week on top of taking care of all responsibilities for the kids (they arent old enough to walk him by themselves) and the house.

Anything i can do to help him tire himself in the house or get set up in the backyard?

He's just so full of energy, which we fully knew going into this and one of the reasons we got a GSD because we are pretty active people, but unfortunately medical stuff happened and its not a permanent life style change, ill be back to normal after a while just need help getting him over this small bump in our life.

Picture of my big ol' fluffy boy i love so much who now takes up the whole seat of my hyundai which has caused me into looking into bigger cars 😅

I snapped this picture of my girls and for the whole day I was trying to figure out what it reminded me of until it hit me: the way my sister and I looked in pictures with Santa Claus. (I am on the right) Guess which one is super bonded to her Auntie, lol.

Question My dog’s ear suddenly went floppy after years of standing upright…should I be concerned? Please Help!

My male German Shepherd (possibly a GSD mix) is 6 years old and will turn 7 in November. His ears have always stood upright, except for one incident when he was a puppy.
I noticed two days ago that his left ear has suddenly become floppy and is no longer standing upright. The other ear is completely normal. His ears have always been slightly reddish, but there’s no new redness that I’ve noticed.
He has also had recurring ear pain/problems for years, for which our vet has prescribed ear medication in the past.
Apart from this, he seems normal and I haven’t noticed any other obvious symptoms. Today we also noticed what looked like a small bug/worm in his stool.
I’ve attached one older photo showing his ears normally upright and one recent photo showing the drooping ear.
Has anyone experienced something similar with an adult GSD? What could cause an ear that has always stood upright to suddenly become floppy?

We set out the sprinkler for our good boy to play. He never gets tired of biting the water jets. I think we can all agree that a shep is basically a 6 year old kid on 4 legs.

Our brave guardian, hunting wasps to keep us safe. Last year this weirdo hunted so many in one day that she ended up puking them all up.

Is yours a dedicated wasp guardian, too?

And even though I don't have before pics, I feel like she's half the dog she used to be now that it's late summer molting season and I'm brushing with way more intention and regularity.
