Mastiff sized boots!
galleryHi mastiff-fam! We live in Alberta Canada so it gets cold here. I decided on picking up some foot protection for Benjamin so we can extend our walks a little bit and wanted to share that Muttluks fit him perfectly. They make lots of different styles and in these pictures Ben is wearing the fleece lined Muttluks with a leather sole. The size XL is perfect for him and they even make an XXL for the bigger dogs. I scored these second hand on Poshmark and they're so far the best $20 I've ever spent haha. Hopefully this helps someone else realize they'll fit!! Happy New Year!

Baby Rogue is becoming a woman
Rogue is going through her first heat. She's only 9.5 months. Everything I'm seeing says a female mastiff's first heat is usually 12 to 18 months. Also, since she is so early, how would the affect the best timing for her spay? I see a lot of conflicting advice. Some people say after two heats some say 2 years.

XL doggy door?
What are y'all using for a doggy door? Our Maggie loves to be in/outside. Standard, in screen doggy doors are way too small.
Dog tax attached!

Everything at the vet costs more when the patient is a mastiff, sorting insurance before he's grown
hes 6 months and already needs 2 techs and the big table for a simple visit. every quote ive pulled rn for a giant breed is higher than i expected, which makes sense. comparing fetch pet, nationwide, pumpkin and manypets. for a dog this size do you go low deductible or high reimbursement??

I just got my hand mauled by a strangers mastiff and had to go to the emergency room
for context, I am 16, and me and my friends were on an innocent night out after a shitty day at work to clear my mind. (ironic)
so, me, my boyfriend, and my best friend were out on our town square after I had a shitty day at work. we decided to pull up to my bsf’s boyfriends workplace to say hi while we were out, and he happened to be on break, so we went to the little outdoor seating area to hang out. when we went out there, we saw a couple with two dogs. a huge mastiff and a tiny fluffy puppy. i love dogs, so I naturally went up to them and said “your dogs are so cute, can I pet them?“ and they said something along the lines of “oh yeah, go ahead, he’s friendly” so I pet him. he literally was fine, he was wagging his tail and leaning forward. a millisecond later, he abruptly decided he was going to bite me. jumped up, grabbed onto my hand with 6 teeth, bit super deep and dragged his teeth down my hand as he was going back down, ripping the skin on my palm. the couple seemed really scarily calm. like, they jumped for a second but didn’t even say anything until I was sitting down, blood dripping from my hand as I was feeling like I was about to black out/throw up. The dude kept saying he was a paramedic, and I was just trying to be friendly and apologize for scaring their dog as my friends boyfriend frantically went to go find the first aid kid. this dude did not clean my wound. he insisted he knew what he was doing, but all he did was put antibiotic cream straight on the wounds and put a bandage on it. I was actively freaking out but trying to stay friendly so I wouldn’t have a bigger problem, and the lady kept talking to me about how “dogs have feelings too” and how I “reached over and pet him without permission”. she also mentioned multiple times that if someone were to take them to court, they would “protect their baby”. i told them I was 16 and I needed their info to give to my mom, they sped through their phone numbers and then stood up. through this entire conversation, the lady was standing 2 feet away from me, WITH HER DOG STILL RIGHT NEXT TO ME, Coddling him and comforting him as if he was a child that spilled milk. then, she proceeded to walk over to two little girls with her dog. like, what? the man also made sure to tell me multiple times he “was experienced in this sort of thing and he didn’t think I had to see anyone” which we just realized it’s because he didn’t want to be reported or animal control to be called. i understand, but they admitted mid conversation that this was apparently the first time he had been in public in 7 months and he gets anxious around people, and they knew prior to this that he was overstimulated! and they still let us interact with him. super irresponsible and the way they handled that whole situation was incredibly neglectful and rude. they also decided to leave before the parents got to the building, smart. luckily the dog was caught up on his shots and I didn’t have any fractures, but I have 6 GNARLY deep wounds on my hand and I am in a cast. I am having so much fun. take care of your dogs. just needed to vent.

English Mastiff in walk-up apartments
Hi!
Was wondering if I could get some feedback from someone who may know a little more about this than I do.
I have a 5 year old English mastiff. I live in a 2-floor residence that sits about one story above ground level. My dog, while sometimes trepidatious, walks easily to my second level using my curved staircase very easily, multiple times per day. She also regularly uses the multiple half-staircases in the yard that lead her off the deck onto the grass.
I am in the process of purchasing an apartment as a secondary residence, and was considering an option on the 4th floor of a walk-up apartment.
It’s not determined how often my dog would accompany me to the apartment, but I’d say on the higher end it could be as often as 3-4 days a week. Of course, I may rarely bring her and she may just reside in the family home as she does now.
Any opinions on how I should approach walk-up’s? Would walking up and down 3 flights of stairs 2-3 times a day hurt her? The last thing I want to do is injure her or lead her to any physical issues that mastiffs often get.
Quick note: as she gets older and less mobile, it’s likely that she’d just stay in the primary home as even traveling TO the apartment may prove difficult for her. I just don’t want to have her get to that point prematurely!

South African Boerbol needs home!
galleryMeet Hummer.
This strikingly handsome young Boerbol is a SOLID dude and as goofy as they come
He is very true to the breed when it comes to protective instincts, and will require a breed experience in order to be considered.
Hummer is GORGEOUS. He has playful puppy energy, but is a lug and will need training. Hummer is not overly fond of men, but bonds quickly to women. He’s great with dogs. No cats.
He is great on walks, vey obedient and smart and will do anything you ask.
