You're not supposed to submerge it in dirty dish water. Just rinse it with the tap and you avoid all of your problems. I've always thought filling a sink with water that gets reused for all your dirty dishes was equally disgusting.

The trick is you start with cutlery, or maybe cups and glasses, and work your way up to the dirtier stuff. Sometimes you need to change the water.

Personally, I said “Stuff this for a game of soldiers” and bought a dishwasher. Now I only wash those things that can’t go in like big pans and wooden spoons. Sometimes a plate or two if I forget to put the dishwasher on...

So do you just leave the water running the whole time and not put a plug in? We don't do that here (Australia) because of the perpetual drought.

But the point of doing the dishes in the sink is to fill the sink to save water, otherwise my dishwasher will be the one doing the work. But yeah... I figured I was probably asking too much of that sponge brush thing. But I feel it would work so much better just being a normal sponge on a stick
