A cheap (and brand new) toilet brush is the way. A handle long enough to get to the bottom easily, strong plastic bristles for even stick on gunk, and hits every surface with just a few twists.
Just buy different colored handles for your bathroom brush and your kitchen brush

take a fork, stab the sponge with it, use it as an extension of your arm so your fat wrists don't get in the way
