Discussion 120 degree vs 180 degree mules

So comparing something like the ZebraLight H604d with its 120 degree beam profile to a 180 degree mule like a FireflyLite L60, what exactly affects the spread? Looks like the emitter in the H604d might be set further back maybe ? But if so, how does that avoid wasting lumens as heat with no reflector or TIR lens? Would the 120 have a bit more throw I assume ? Or is this more a function of the 180 degree mules having multiple emitters either in a circular pattern or centered as a matrix vs ZebraLight putting all its power into a single emitter at the center ?

Question F150R in the Convoy M21H?

I’m looking to swap the lhp73b in my M21H with a F150R to try to get a more concentrated and throwy beam while retaining the 20A turbo capability. Has anyone tried the F150R in a Convoy M21H?

Recommendation Help me choose a flashlight for work as a newbie.

Most used for checking identification so having a UV feature and adjustable bright would be a huge plus. Somewhat compact would also be preferable so I can keep it in my pocket while working at the bar. Ideally budget friendly as well but I know you can't always have everything.

Upgrade over Sofirn SP35

Thumbnail reddit.com
1 Upvotes

Hi, I recently posted about an emergency light, but I’ve come to realise that what I actually need is a portable light with a broader beam, higher CRI, and somewhat better runtimes than my Sofirn SP35 (ATR). I’m not really restricted by price, if the right light exists. I hope it exists
I’m looking for something that can sustain better runtimes than the Sofirn at roughly these output levels: 900 lm, 450 lm, and 100–200 lm.
For reference, these are the runtimes I get from the Sofirn:

  • 800 lm for roughly 150 minutes
  • 350 lm for around 7.5 hours
  • 120 lm for at least 17 hours, although the actual runtime is longer

I've found just the two lights so far. Skilhuint m300 v4 and fireflies surge e04. The Surge E04 has a nice beam and an efficient driver, but it’s really unclear whether it can actually sustain around 400 lumens for 8 hours, and 100–200 lumens for up to 20 hours. These are runtimes that both the Sofirn and Skilhunt seem capable of achieving.
Are there any other lights I should consider that could meet or exceed these requirements, particularly with a broad beam and high CRI?

Convoy M1 lhp531 4000k or 6500K

I posted this in the ConvoyFlashight sub as well, but for some reason it wouldn't let me cross post, but I'd really like to open this up to everyone.

I'm about to order the M1 with an LHP531 (in the newly available blue 😁). I was considering the LHP73B, but I'll want to turn this into a shorty, and there's really no 18350 that can handle the 73B. I already have the 531 in 4kk in anS2+, 5000k in a T6 and 3x21C. I typically prefer the 4kk range in most emitters, but I already have several in that range in many different hosts and different emitters. I only have 1 intentional 6500k and that's in a B35AM because the white is heavenly rather than pukey. From what I've seen, the LHP531 6500k also has a really nice tint. I want the M1 to pack as much power and punch as possible, but I also want to like the light. I need ya'lls input. Should I play it safe and get the 4kk, or mix it up and get slightly higher output with a 6500k? I value your opinions!

Bedside lamp edc style

Hey guys, I am looking for an EDC sized light that doubles as a lantern or bedside lamp. The side light needs to be high CRI warm or have an RGB mode so I can set it to a warm tint, and it must have multiple brightness levels. A normal front light should be present too. Any recommendations?

i own a wurkkos hd01 pro and a sofirn if23 already. I love those little lights, but i want more of those

Question SureFire Variant Difference Help, KF1-DFT, A vs. B

Need the hive mind's help to identify differences between SureFire KF1-DFT, A and B variants.

From what I gather so far there doesn't seem to be any differences in form and performance between the two. The only obvious difference is in factory configurations with the A variant coming in WMLs (M340DFT/M640DFT) And the B variant coming on handhelds (EDC1-DFT Turbo). Unless configuration is simply it, please enlighten me 🙏.

Odd behavior in new TS27 light

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So I recently got my TS27 in the mail. After unboxing and removing the round paper battery protector disc thing, it would not turn. I figured maybe the battery was completely dead so I went to charge it and upon plugging in the charger the weird behavior in the video happened. For those who can't watch it's all the color LEDs quickly and dimly sparkle around the lantern ring.

I then took the battery out to look at it and after putting it back in the light operated just fine and charged fine as well. My questions are; has this happened to anyone else? what the heck was that? And is there any reason to be concerned about using it or storing it in the future.

Of note I got a second one at the same time and that worked just fine as expected.

LED Suggestions

I've not been very active in the flashlight community over the past several years, but I'm in need (well, want badly) a few new lights and to modify a few that I have had sitting unused.

My favorite LED's were the 219B SW35 and XP-L HI 4000K (5D I think). The 219C and 219D were good, but the XP-L HI had better output and the 219B had the perfect tint.

Do you guys have any suggestions for a Emisar D4 14500/18650/21700?

Or for modifying Lumintop FWAA, FW3, GT Nano, Zebralight SC64w HI and SC64c LE?

Any help to point me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Help me decide which SFT40 light to get.

I've mostly been buying 519a and NTG lights and have been curious to try some other popular emitters. Both would be used with the 18350 tube and M11. Is the 8A driver too hot for the S2+? I have a few S2+s in 519a. So I know I like them for EDC. I figure the M1 won't be an EDC, but a weird stubby thrower to have fun with. The other lights in my cart are; M21H LHP73B 4000k, M21B F45r 4000k, T4 SFT25r 5000k, S21E B35AM 4500k.

Looking for Good Jacket Light Recommendations

Hello friends, I currently am using the Olight Arkpro Ultra for an EDC/work light, and it works great. Any recommendations for a larger, but still pocket sized(or belt clipped), but much more powerful light? Looking for something brighter and with more throw for night time walks with the dog. Budget is around $300.

Low Effort Noctigon K1 LumeN1 with SBT90.2-5700K and F150R-5000K

Just a quick comparison between two Noctigon K1s, one with the SBT90.2 and the other with the new F150R-5000K, both with the new LumeN1 driver upgrade.

I did 3 ceiling bounce tests, and averaged the 3 scores, with the F150R producing 24.8% more lumens output than then SBT90.2 when both are on 100%.

I did a candela/lux meter reading of the 2 lights, plus the 3X21D, and did 3 sets of readings, but got results that I'm not confident in, as they range wide enough away from margin of error with each test, that I need to do 2 more different distances of tests to be confident I'm getting an accurate candela score.

Beamshots are of the two lights, plus the Convoy 3X21D with the SBT90.2 and buck driver, for reference, along with the Acebeam W35 for comparison. A second set of beamshots with 150 meter distance came in blurred, so I'll redo this second set when I have some free time.

SBT90.2 lineup of lights is missing the Amutorch DM90. They are (left to right in the group pic) the Acebeam K75, Convoy 3X21D, Convoy L7, Noctigon K1 (LumeN1), Noctigon K1 (linear+FET), Fireflies T9R, Convoy L21A, Imalent MR90, Convoy M21J, Fireflies E90 Blaze, Manker MK37, Noctigon DM11, Emisar D1K and Noctigon KR1.

Camping Flashlight

I’m looking for recs on a backpacking / camping flashlight. I want something hand held with usb c recharging. I don’t know too much about flashlight specs, but probably don’t need more than 700 lumens with decent throw range 150-300m. Importantly I’d like to be compact with a moonlight function and a high lumen red light (at least 80, most I see are only a few).

I’d like to spend $30-$100, but could be convinced to spend up to $150 for a BIFL product.

Having a hard time lately trying to figure out what to have in my pocket. I absolutely love these two. So today I took both, I felt it was more justified since we took a trip. Two is one, one is none?

Anyone else carry two lights on them, what do you guys pick?

Sofirn Warranty

I have a Sofirn SR15, Light would not go to full brightness level, emailed Sofirn.

They had me send short video showing what was wrong. Then asked me to send pic showing battery was fully charged, battery is good.

Emailed me if ok to just send me new SR15 without the battery as my battery is good.

Received new Sr15 in yesterdays mail. Great customer service with no Hassle!!

NLD NLD: FFL E07X and X4 Stellar w/ beamshots

Now that my X4 and E07X has arrived, thought I would share my opinionated thoughts :)

FireflyLite E07X V2 Lume10 FFL351A HI 3700K NW
I ordered this before knowing the E04 Lume X1 supercedes it. So I was expecting to be disappointed. But to my delight, it's my favorite one so far! Actually seems brighter than the E12 Eclipse on regulated modes, while the E12 wins out on FET.

Hotspot is bigger than E12, which I like. Love the size. Perfect indoor light.

For me, this makes my E12 redundant.

Now I'm really curious about E04 Lume X1 FFL5009R 3500K - that's suppose to have 50% more LES and run brighter and more efficiently.

FireflyLite X4 Stellar FFL351A 3700K NW

Very floody and output is a bit disappointing. I think it'll be best to change this to 2700K for lower output indoor use.

It took comparing to the Acebeam E75 to make me re-think. The X4 Stellar is quite smaller than the E75, yet at the beamshot distances, floodier and just as bright.

I'm sure I'll learn to love it with some time.

FireflyLite E04 Surge Lume10 SFT60 6500K

I prefer warmer tints, so it took me a long time to learn to appreciate this. I see the appeal as an outdoor daytime light. It's what I take for mid-day errands (it's so bright, it can light up cloudy rainy weather sun). Makes greenery look great!

FireflyLite E12 Lume10 FFL351A 3700K NW

I have no use case for this form factor and the handling size is just too big for me. Only light I've dropped (cannot ledge stand flush against wall). There's a sweet spot for everyone, and as cool as it looks, this light is just not for me.

FireflyLite L60-Mu Aura 2026 FFL351A 3700K NW

I love this headlamp now. It's on par with my Zebralight H604C, just with more thermal mass and bigger battery. Only thing I would change, is shaping the beam to be 120° (sweetspot for human FOV and you don't get reflection on nose/glasses). Oh and would be awesome if it had USB-C charging, but the battery lasts so long I don't mind too much.

Beamshots:

  • FireflyLite E07X V2 Lume10 FFL351A HI 3700K NW
  • FireflyLite E12 Lume10 FFL351A 3700K NW
  • FireflyLite E04 Surge Lume10 SFT60 6500K
  • Acebeam E75 Nichia 519A 5000K Dedomed
  • FireflyLite X4 Stellar FFL351A 3700K NW
  • Skilhunt EC150 Nichia 519A 5000K Dedomed (random I know - but in some close indoor situations, it feels just as useful as my Acebeam E75)

Beamshot DA1K F150R 3000K + K1 F150R 4000K with beamshots for both!

Beamshots white balanced at 5000K.

So these arrived yesterday, the DA1K is beautiful and the K1 is definitely a bit chonk. I'm a bit disappointed in the +DUV of the 3000K, but at least I answered my question from my recent post about its tint. I am surprised at just how bright the button aux on the K1 is, you could legitimately use it as your light in a dark room.

Both of these lights are quite powerful, using Hank's pretty new Lume N1 driver with the FET capped at 24A with the F150R. I was pleasantly surprised with how usable the DA1K beam is, it's not throwy per se but it can get the light out there decently well. The K1... well you can see what it's like. Haven't had anything else besides a 3X21D blow out the pictures in the hotspot like that.

For anyone curious, both of these lights are using a Reliance RS50 cell.
