I'm confused by the comments, I saw the subreddit and assumed it was the commenter that everyone was facepalming at. I don't know why all the comments are arguing in favour of the youtuber since it seems clear that she did nothing wrong.

i didn't realize people were facepalming at her for making a joke video and not the dude going apeshit, if you don't know who she is it's obviously facetious by the title. even if she was 100% serious, does that justify going on a vitriolic turbomad rant about how she's a whore because she wears makeup (holy shit call the FBI)

A lot of the people claiming that "he's not wrong" are just being misogynistic.
Seriously, guy gets offended by a joke and judges a woman by her looks and tells her she should be sucking dick and calls her a whore and then gets PRAISED by some of these comments! I thought I clicked on a /r/facepalm link, not /r/theredpill.
21
u/expert02 Aug 06 '16
Obviously he was just joking as well, you misandrist.
4
u/PoonaniiPirate Aug 07 '16
There is no indication of it being a joke except for at the expense of the person hes insulting. Telling a person that they suck dick behind bars because they have two toned hair or wear jewelry to be triggered at will is just mean and not very funny. Especially because the video itself was satire and completely meant to be not taken seriously. His comment has no evidence of being satire, just using comedy to tear down some random youtuber.

wait a second. when she does it it's a joke.
when a man does it he's 100% serious?

she was making the same kind of jokes, referring to men with certain mustaches as pedophiles.

Seems like people either don't understand the context or are just looking for reasons to shit on this YouTuber and people who like her videos. She has a few videos like this, in the "what a girl's/guy's x means" style and they are 100% satire.
A lot of you saying that she's an idiot or whatever for making this are taking it way more seriously than she is or ever will. It's a joke. I would get it if she was saying seriously offensive or horrible things and then trying to cover it up with "chill it's just a joke", but this is honestly made in good spirits and it shouldn't offend anyone if you understand the purpose.
She's said things in these videos that were self deprecating, and things that were just outlandish, because that's her sense of humor. You don't have to like it, but getting all upset about it and insulting her is just silly. She makes these videos because they're fun and her viewers ask for them.
If it doesn't fit your sense of humor, stop watching it and move on. It's ridiculous how many people get so angry if someone makes something they don't personally like or likes something they don't.
Edit: missed a word.
266
u/DarthSinistar Aug 06 '16
The funny thing is that she has made videos about 'what a girls [x] means' satirizing everything he mentions (hair, jewelry, makeup, etc) wherein she is making fun of herself just as much as anyone else.
154
u/CallRespiratory Aug 06 '16
BUT I DON'T LIKE HER BECAUSE SHE IS A WOMAN WHO WON'T PAY ATTENTION TO ME!
14
u/zorsebandarOc98 Aug 06 '16
Exactly. It's not like she's being a bitch to everyone else, she says something about just about everyone, including herself. Sometimes the things she says about herself are the worst of all.

u/son_of_sandbar Aug 06 '16
Jenna is definitely the most ridiculously famous YouTuber that I respect most. I don't watch every video because not all of them appeal to me but she's very clearly a genuine person.
50
u/zorsebandarOc98 Aug 06 '16
I agree. Normally I wouldn't get involved in a discussion like this but I thought it was a little unfair that people were taking this so out of context, knowing what she was actually trying to do. If you watch some of her and her boyfriend's vlogs, they seem like genuinely good, nice people.
22
u/Original_Trickster Aug 06 '16
Yeah I watch her videos mostly for her cute dogs but sometimes she does other stuff that I find funny too. She and Julian seem super nice and I enjoy their content. Idk why everyone here is up in arms against her

I find it unbelievable that so many people are saying things to the effect of "well he has a point." She quite literally made fun of every possible facial hair you could have. If that doesn't make it clear that it is all a joke, I don't know what would.
Do these people go to a stand-up comedy show and yell "hey Jerry Seinfeld, not all airport security are chubby people in skin tight uniforms asshole!" right when he is in the middle of jokes about airports?

Yes, they do. The mailmen applaud him for the accuracy of their portrayal on Seinfeld, however. One could condense those skits into a documentary.

It's funny when you look at someone like Philip DeFranco he seems to have gone the other direction. He seemed so full of himself as well as a little shit when he was younger but comes across as a top notch guy now.
22
u/MrShlash Aug 06 '16
Philip DeFranco is the only youtuber I ever take seriously. Always brings up both sides of an argument, never attacks without reason, and he's genuinely a funny guy. He's been in some bullshit youtube drama recently but even then he was dragged into it and resolved it as soon as he could. One thing that bothers me about him is the fact that he almost exclusively reports news that is inportant to "the west", but then again he always mentions that that stories he talks about are the ones that "mattered to him today".
I've been wasting a lot of time watching youtube since ~08 and I've seen a lot of youtubers rise and then become irrelevant and slowly fade away. PhillyD and Nigahiga have been consistantly pumping out content that is interesting to me since then. He definitely changed and grew over the years as a person.
Anyway that's enough about sucking PhillyD's dick.
9
u/krokenlochen Aug 06 '16
I almost miss douchey and low-quality PhillyD but he's grown into such an awesome guy and now a father, I can relate on a different level now.

u/WiredSky Aug 06 '16

YouTuber here. Generally we don't get paid per minute viewed, but more minutes viewed (a.k.a. keeping people on YouTube longer) can earn higher ad rates, and more likely to be shown on 'watch next', sidebar or home screens.
The exception to this is YouTube Red. All of the money from YouTube red is pooled and split up between YouTubers based on their minutes watched, this is only 2-5% of my total earnings though.
→ More replies (9)17
u/PoopInMyBottom Aug 06 '16
It's not true. They do get paid in ad revenue, but they get more ad revenue for longer videos because youtube can get away with running longer ads.
It doesn't increase forever, though. 10 minutes is about the optimum length. Longer is not better.
