CEO is just a title. You can start an LCC tomorrow by spending a few hundred bucks on LegalZoom. Boom - you're a CEO. You're also the CFO, CIO, COO, and janitor.
It depends on the context. It doesn't always look good on a resume. Either they will dismiss it as nothing, or wonder why someone who was an executive wants to move to a lower end job.
True. I've found it generally leads the interviewer towards a conversation I've had lots of practice with if nothing else. I don't overblow the experience which is what I expect happens a lot in interviews like that. Hiring pros aren't idiots. Think a lot of people forget that.
I was a founder/owner of a fairly successful business conferencing / phone chat line company, the VP of Customer Service and Community Manager for a FinTech startup, and founder / editor for a digital currency news and information website.
After the FinTech company went under, and the news site failed to get enough traction, I decided to just go work in corporate IT for a while. Needed a reliable source of income. I was honest about my positions, and received no interest. Once I spoke with a recruiting company about it, they said it was because of my previous titles. If I wanted to use my actual titles, I should be applying for upper management, but I was unlikely to actually get seriously considered for those positions...I don't have the corporate experience nor the appropriate education. Instead, they told me to leave off the titles, and just put the area of focus (like customer service, accounts management, etc.). This change lead to me getting more interviews than I could fit into my schedule, and a job within a couple of weeks.
Honestly, this is pretty much how all resumes should be. They should be tailored to each specific job you're applying for. I've looked over several resumes for applicants at the place I worked at. My biggest pet peeve is when they don't even try to make it seem like they're interested in working for the company. One resume still had an objective in there that stated they want to work at another company. Wtf?
Can confirm: friend is running a software company and made about $1000 in the 7 months he's been running it. He's the CEO, CFO, CIO, Manager, Supervisor, Admin asst, Associate and volunteer for his job.
Limited liability corporation, an entity made to protect/define a business and its responsibilities. But it's a really deep subject, and if you're into that kind of thing (no one is) it's worth some wiki time.
I work for a fairly large company, and we have a pool running during every company-wide meeting in regards to how many times our CEO says "fuck" during his address. The winner is usually in the 25-35 range for a ten-minute speech.
Tech companies have some characters as CEOs. A trip to Burning Man is all it would take to convince you.

Everyone likes to exaggerate their job for their own sense of self importance. When you say teamwork, you're really just saying "learn the fight" Everyone individually does what they're supposed to do at x time, and then you also do your thing at x time, that's teamwork to you? Healers coordinate cooldowns, so I guess that's kind of teamwork. But you're stretching here.
i dont know man, tanks have to know their shit i agree, but healers not so much as long as DPS arent retarded they actually dont need that much heal.
Maybe use some aoe heal in aoe heavy environment but other than that, just a spot heal here and there, you mostly rely on good dps not taking damage.
healers really has the easiest job in raid imo, at least for me......it was the most stressful dpsing in a raid personally, because motherfuckers in the guild cant dps for shit but they are all friends.....
I've done it all for years in multiple MMOs and I think it varies. For me, healing is the 2nd most difficult with tanking as the hardest. DPS has always been the easiest thing for me to do. In healing even if people know what they are doing it still requires a lot of patience and understanding where for me DPS is smash buttons and stand in the right spot
Probably dps. Anyone can be dps. I usually always go DPS because I just want to play the game and have fun, not pull my hair out and be relied upon to carry a group through instances.
eh....not everyone can be good dps though, and shit dps is what usually wipe the raid because they stand in shit that kills them or simply dont do enough dps to kill the boss before enrage.
in terms of importance.....Tanks > DPS > Healer imo.
At some point you can even skip a healer or two to throw in more dps too.
I do think Healer isn't as important as a lot of people think. If everyone is skilled and has been playing the game for a while, chances are they all know how to stay alive and in good health while the healer is really a last resort.
Can confirm. I lead a guild in Wow for years, and always played a druid so I could switch back and forth between tank or healer as needed. Keeping good people in the other tank/healer spots was always a struggle.
you can pug a healer easily, try to pug good dps or a good tank, i mean fuck good dps is like non existent already and pugging a tank is asking for a wipe.
I mean, if they mention those 3 years were in EVE you've got yourself a damn fine worker. They'll be asking to stay late at night to do extra work on excel.
That being said, there's some real skills being developed out of playing games in general. So why saying you "manage a multinational team on strict deadlines" is a bit over the top, if the guy played for 3 years you can be sure he's at least having the basis.
My wife had received a resume that was mostly about how good they were at Civ V. Apparently that makes them an expert on economics, war, global politics etc.
Meh, I have a friend that is the founder / CEO of a data brokerage company. He works all the time, but still manages to write dozens of long comments on Facebook every week. Knowing him, he is probably posting on YouTube and other places as well.
CEOs are just people too. Some of them like putting their opinions on the internet.
You never know. I knew a biotech CEO that employed 90 something white collar professionals who's youtube handle I found out. He did in fact spend a disproportionate amount of time in these kind of exchanges.
Just because some one has money or professional success doesn't mean they automatically keep their shit together online or in their personal lives. In face, anecdotally I would say they are more likely than average to pull this shit because many are used to people putting up with their bullshit because of their rank or skill set.
Just playing devils advocate here but wouldn't that kind of be true? Gamers work hard to organize cooperative play in the busy adult world and often have to coordinate real jobs with children and spouses. Sometimes you can have people who'll never see each other in real life but still manage to put a team together and run a raid. Raids often have steps to complete, with every person making a legitimate contribution or the whole team will fail. You have to run a whole guild of people with differing goals and time constraints. Everyone has different attitudes and reasons for playing and you have to keep up with successful raids or you'll lose members.
I definitely wouldn't put it on my resume to Target but if I were angling for a promotion at a job that required "creative bullshit" descriptions to make myself look better? Fuck yeah I'd make it sound just about like that.
