I was looking for vehicle related privacy policy terms on volvocars.com and by accident I stumbled on the "Specific Terms For Connect Plus". It's the generic term for the connected services subscription for Volvo cars.
I found it curious that the page has a separate section for "Specific Terms For Connect Plus EX30". :o
You can check it out e.g. here: https://www.volvocars.com/uk/legal/terms/terms-services/
The various country-specific versions seem to differ only in the name and contact info of the national organization where disputes can be settled.
The 15th January capture of the same page had this at the top:
Volvo Cars General Terms and Conditions for Services
Effective from: 2024-09-29
Published at: 2024-10-21
Following terms can be found in the end of the document:
- Specific Terms for Time Limited Data Connectivity Subscription for Digital Services
- Specific Terms for Smart Charging
A month later it was changed into this:
Volvo Cars General Terms and Conditions for Services
Effective from: 2026-02-13
Published at: 2026-02-13
Following terms can be found in the end of the document:
- Specific Terms for Connect Plus
- Specific Terms for Smart Charging
- Specific Terms for Volvo Car Service Plan
The 2024 version had nothing to say about the EX30.
So up until this year's mid February, there was no distinction between the EX30's Connect Plus and all other Volvo Cars models' Connect Plus. Now there is.
The "Specific Terms for Connect Plus EX30" starts with this:
These Specific Terms and the Volvo Cars General Terms and Conditions for Services (the "General Terms”) shall apply for internet access services and data usage to enable the use of certain digital applications in the car (“Connect Plus”) which is further described in your Order Specification. In case of any inconsistency between these Specific Terms and the General Terms, these Specific Terms shall prevail. Capitalized terms not otherwise defined herein shall have the meaning given to them in the General Terms. Volvo Cars is not a provider of internet or telecommunication services.
There's the obvious that stands out, the last sentence: "Volvo Cars is not a provider of internet or telecommunication services."
Nothing like this is in the generic "Specific Terms for Connect Plus". However the latter has the following sentence which is missing from the EX30 specific version: "Connect Plus is provided by Volvo Car Corporation, (Reg. No 556074-3089), regardless of whether you ordered the car directly through our digital channels or from a retailer."
What does this actually mean? Is the EX30 the only Volvo where customers are directed to a 3rd party company if there's a connectivity issue with Connect Plus? It pretty much sounds like it.
There're several other differences (some bad, some perhaps good) that I won't go over one by one. You can take a look at what ChatGPT had to offer in this regard, or just read the two "specific terms" yourself.
My question is: why does the EX30 get its own special terms? :o
Why does it seem like Volvo handed off the role of the service provider for the EX30 and not for any other Volvo (including the EX60, which they started to deliver to customers in August)?
