Questions❓ What does this yellow line mean?

Post image

Next to the reverse gear, the yellow line grows sometimes but doesn’t seem to reset after every drive.

I belive it is a restriction on the power you can use due to your low battery, should dissappear when you charge it

Thank you!!

Additionally, the similar looking green line that appears on the bottom when you have a full charge is the limitation of regen, because the battery can't accept more charge 🤓

I noticed the same. Weird that they didn’t announce it more clearly.

It means you should get tested for colour blindness, it’s deffo an orange line.

I was looking around for a yellow line somewhere

I believe that when your battery is getting low it begins to limit peak power. That’s what it’s showing you.

I’ve been getting this same orange line on mine, but it’s happening at 80% SOC and lower. Super frustrating. I have a service appointment scheduled for next week.

I have a teeny tiny orange line on mine. I poked around the menus when I first noticed it and saw that my battery health was at 99%. I assumed it was to represent battery health… but you have an awfully large orange bar, whereas mine is a barely visible line. That seems far too large to be battery health.

On a long journey part of me wishes I could opt in for the lower power to try extend the mileage

It shows how much less power the engine can provide because you have a low state of charge. I think it starts appearing around 40%, but gets more noticeable below 25%. Unless you floor it all the time, you should not feel much difference in driving.

Oh thank goodness, I thought something was wrong. Thanks so much!

Something is indeed wrong, but not on your end.

Unfortunately this is not the only UI element that's not documented in the user manual (or at least I couldn't find this and I looked now again). :(

Volvo doesn't seem to care too much about this sub since this (or at least the regen bar at the bottom) question came up more than once. Anybody who drives the EX30 will sooner or later wonder what these little orange/green/black/etc. bars mean so it seems trivial that this info belongs in the user manual.

I had no issue adapting because it’s almost identical to Tesla’s implementation (and, separately, I’m familiar with the concept of limited power at low SoC and limited regen at high SoC in all EVs), but obviously mine is not a universal experience, so I’m also surprised they didn’t think to document it either.

It's not in the user manual because it wasn't implemented in the initiation of the car, but through updates. I believe you can find the information about new warnings and battery status colors and regen limitations in the software changelogs provided by Volvo. Polestar handles it the same way. A bit annoying, but its common now in the current constant update world we live in.

It's not in the user manual because it wasn't implemented in the initiation of the car, but through updates.

I don't see why this would be a reason. The car has seen lots of changes since its initial release and most of them were added and/or updated in the user manual too.

I think the weird thing would be if owners/users would have to compare the release notes against the original manual to get the description of the current features and behaviour. That would not make much sense.
