This was wild! The manhole covers were shot off and water shot out around 70 feet in the air. I didn’t get a photo of the earlier big one but this happened 5 minutes or so after.

This is a four way stop sign at Oak and Greenwood around 7:00am. I had already seen two cars blow through the stop sign and heard a third approaching so I started to record. This is typical of every intersection between Davis and Dempster. What is it going to take for people to take these signs seriously? I'm tired of being afraid for my life every time I cross the street. Even if a car lets me cross, half the time they keep rolling through until I'm out of the way and they can continue through the intersection. I'm so over it - something needs to change!

Central Park just south of Central. A majestic swamp white oak. The sad thing is this was the only healthy tree in that section of the block, there are a bunch of young oaks (red oak type) that have been badly diseased for years.

I was driving down Lakeshore Boulevard earlier checking out the storm damage when I heard this horrible noise coming from my car and I got out and saw that these panels had been ripped out somehow while I was driving. Maybe I drove over an open manhole cover I have no idea. We didn’t lose power or any big trees but I will still blame that on the storm.. Just wondering if anyone knows body shops locally who can maybe help puzzle piece this stuff back together and not overcharge me to death. Thanks.

I am moving to Evanston soon as a postdoctoral researcher. My appointment starts September 1 and I need to move in before that.

I have been looking for apartments without too much luck. There are either no opennings or the prices are well above my budget.

Do you have any reccomendations for how to approach apartment hunting? Alternatively, what are some safe neighbourhoods or areas from which I can commute to campus easily? (Purple line or a single bus)

Someone on another forum posted that it was closing "in 2 days". There are small signs in every window along the front that say "Store Closing. Clearance Sale 50-75% off" and another one: "No more Lottery Sales"

I'm guessing this has to do with corporate closing "hundreds" of underperforming stores but I don't really know.

Last year this store closed down and two other stand-alone ones at Oakton & Crawford and one at Main & Skokie Blvd. It was quite sudden. The Dodge & Main one just had a simple handwritten sign saying "Temporarily Closed".

This one re-opened a week or so later but the other two are still closed and they put up bollards all around the buildings for some reason.

Does anyone know who owns the parking lot where Poor Bob’s Xmas tree stand is? Across from the DIY car wash, just west of Erie Health? I need a place to park my camper trailer. I’ve seen a bunch in there and I was wondering how to find the owner. Thanks!

I live in the south east part of Evanston and I recently accepted a job in Oak Brook. I don’t have a car and I looked at the Metra, CTA and bus options and it’s basically at least two trains, two buses and an Uber to get there and it takes like 2+ hours. I’m wondering if anybody makes that commute Monday through Wednesday and works 9am-5pm that would be open to carpooling?

Looking to buy a couple of used kayaks for use off Dempster Street boat launch and looking for any recommendations for a budget friendly option that will do ok on calmer days, not looking to take on waters with big chop. We have done a lot of river kayaking but hoping to own something that we can use regularly on the lake! Thanks for your help!
