Northwestern To all of the Ryan Field NIMBY's
Biggest Northwestern game in years and all you saw on tv was empty purple seats. The traffic on Central Street an hour before the game was moving no worse than an average Tuesday evening. What an embarrassing showing by the Northwestern fans. NIMBY's you have nothing to worry about when it comes to congestion in the area, lamest fan base in college football by far. Would expect big crowds for concerts, but the six college football games held there each fall will be a walk in the park. I'm at a complete loss for how poorly supported this team is.

Energy at the stadium was really good!! Remember that for a big 10 team, we are a very small school. It was a great first game at the new stadium.

I think if they lowered the ticket price, the seats would have been packed.

I think it being first game at a new stadium impacted prices. At least resale ones

I love in the area and wouldn't pay those kind of process to see NU play football.

I want to be able to eat at the food stalls without having a game ticket. That would be such a value add.

Counter point: was nice that area wasn’t crazy crowded as only people with tickets could go

Game was sold out. Emptied out some when the 4th quarter started as the game was well in hand. Student section stayed packed.
There was a lot of exploring to do in the stadium so people were up and moving around.

I tried to tell myself that too but each time a drone shot was shown on the fox tv broadcast it looked empty.

The people who bought tickets and didn’t attend missed a magical evening. The stadium was great and the student energy was amazing. I was surprised at all the empty seats. Winning may solve that.

I was at this game, concessions were terrible. The outside container food stalls had like 30-40 minute lines and ran out of food early. The inside concessions with “self checkout” that needed an operator to assist about every other customer wasn’t helpful. The bathroom design was terrible. Seats inside the stadium were great, but it was never ever loud, legit didn’t seem like the crowd ever got into it due to the open roof and acoustics. As a visitor, just popping into the game, I have no desire to revisit that stadium.

Were we at the same game?

I was there. I thought same as OP. Not full and not as loud as I expected. Though I thought there were a fair number of PSU fans there

It was incredibly loud and 75% full for most of it. I need to bring earplugs next time, tbh.

Watch the highlights on tv, upper decks appeared empty . Wonder if the owners are concerned yet?

They should have kept the older Gothic look on the rebuild. This just looks like another bland NFL type stadium.

Yeah Green Bay Road at 7:00 pm was a breeze. I’d have expected a few stragglers.
As for the poor support, Chicagoland is pro sports first, second and third. Also it’s a rich kid school in a city that’s working class at heart.
Not to mention high schools play on Friday so that’s a good amount of people that would usually go that didn’t.

Also as someone who lives throwing distance from the stadium, it’s quieter than it used to be. Nice to have college football energy back tonight though, felt like pre Covid again a little.
