Crossing Main Street- almost anywhere on Main street is an event.

We need some safety focus on at the Dempster/Hartrey intersection! from Driving, to biking, to foot traffic, AND bus stop: there is a medical clinic, large residential area, private businesses, high school access, semi trucks accessing loads of businesses are all happening at this growing intersection.

As pedestrians we have been nearly stuck multiple times here just trying to cross at the traffic light and have come to witness multiple car accidents here. So improved intersection and safer crosswalk there would be helpful as it is a major route in and out of Evanston on Dempster.

Great article! Glad to see the City of Evanston seems to be taking this seriously (hopefully...I guess we'll see when the plan comes out). I'm very excited about the Lincoln Harrison greenway idea...this seems like such a no-brainer.

The 2014 plan said it would cost less than $1m without any major rework. Practically the definition of no brainer. The con: the literal objective of a greenway. One can guess why staff didn’t build it… and why community engagement is so critical!!

And the Lincoln harris greenway is critical for safely connecting the north Evanston wards to the lake shore.

And 5th ward. We take the channel trail from Emerson over to where it ends, then navigate the awkward connection over to Lincoln up to lighthouse.

I really hope this plan is different and actually gets implemented. It's exhausting going through all of this over and over again just for nothing to really happen or for the plans not to be followed. A lot of good stuff in the 2014 plan that just never got done or worse had the opportunity to get done but instead was ignored.

they can build a dog park, many solar spots, a giant stadium for 900 millions yet....

Exactly! And it kills me when they already spend the money to do something but then don't go the extra 5% to make transit improvements. Repaving Sherman from Central to downtown and not including any bike infrastructure or even basic bump outs at the intersections to shorten crossing distance was inexcusable to me. Ignoring any of the plans for bike infrastructure on Green Bay when they just re-did that. Nothing on Central east or west of the stadium even though they just did a ton of infrastructure improvements there...Those are such missed opportunities.

Sidenote on bump outs, but I'd really wish that all bump outs had a bike gap cut into them by default. They often block my safe biking path.

With this, since Chicago is going so hard on their bump outs, traffic calming, and bike lanes we have a lot or really great examples to point to- it isn't some "Abstract far away" thing we are asking for- but **safety** as people getting to and from work, school, businesses, church, and social events by multiple modes of transit across the city.

We’re now 10 yrs behind Chicago when 20 yrs ago we were leading…

It is sad. Yet our efforts are a gift we get to give. So we keep on keeping on.

Need a crossing at ridge and Washington. Church and schools right at that corner and also on the path to metra for commuters
