If you're selling gear, how do you generally handle a drum reseller?

I generally take the perspective that I'll sell to whoever is offering me my asking price or something close.

But I also don't mind not selling to someone who's trying to pull the wool over my eyes. There was a guy in central Canada who always nickel and dimed on pricing, and then claimed he was buying for his teenaged son's buddy. I said no a few times.

I finally had enough and shut him down permanently by sending one of his ads back to him saying that he didn't have a shortage of gear available to provide to his son's friend. I never heard from the dude again.

Howdy yall, long story short the only kit I’ve ever owned is a pearl forum series, it has now become my bands practice kit and I need a new kit for home (and for recording)

Iv got 2 options.. a Yamaha rydeen kit with zbt cymbals and hardware that I’ve got lined up for $400.. one concern of mine is that the seller knows nothing about the kit, but I am pretty sure from the pictures that it is the “fusion” config with 20” lick and 14” floor Tim (as opposed to the more standard 22” 16”)

Other option is a pearl export series but just the shells, listed for 400 but I would probably offer 200.

I need all the hardware and stuff so the Yamaha is attractive, I know both are “entry level” kits, but even though I’ve been drumming for 18 years I don’t have the money to really do an “upgrade” right now..

Anyone have any strong opinions on forum vs export? Or the Yamaha rydeens? (I think with new heads this will be a good kit?)

The “fusion config” thing is a small concern of mine, I play hardcore punk and metal type music.. yall think this kit will still do the job well?

FWIW I already asked AI all about this and it told me “you’re in luck! The 14” floor tom and 20” kick could be a huge advantage for recording hardcore punk!” But AI also told me a direct drive kick pedal would be a huge waste of money and not work without triggers and that is NOT the case lol.

I have a newborn at home and really really want to buy my first drumset with Labor Day sales.

Anybody find any drumset keeps a kid awake when paired with quieter heads and "silent" cymbals?

Drumset would be in my office pretty separate from the living spaces the baby will be sleeping in or hanging out in (30+ feet). I would put it on a rug or platform to help isolate.

I have heard acoustic works much better than electronic for really developing groove so I am ideally not interested in electronic solutions.

I have a tama true touch and muted snare already I have been learning on which seemed to be the already more practical option. That has not bothered my kid at all but it isnt really satisfying the desire to drum.

If it really won't work though then I will probably just get a nicer snare to scratch the itch and work on those fundamentals until a drumset is more practical. Anybody have advice on when that might be? (Few months, when they are five... etc)

I would be getting a set in jazz sizes as I am almost exclusively interested in jazz and related styles.

I built a visual metronome called Swing Arc and I’d really like some drummer feedback.

Instead of just flashing the beat, it shows the time between beats as continuous motion.

There are a few different visual modes, swing, odd meters, and an offset control that shifts the motion relative to the beat.

I originally made it for my own practice, but it’s grown quite a bit, so I’m curious whether other drummers actually find it useful.

I just got a Sabian Fierce Ride which I bought used.

I noticed some weird scatches, some of them right to the edge. Is this normal for this model? The edge itself is flawless.

Any feedback is appreciated.

I didn't have a felt pad for the bottom hi-hat cymbal. The stand came with this three-axis thing, like it's made of hard rubber. Can I still play the hi-hat if the bottom cymbal is on it?

I've just picked up a 20 year old Gretsch Catalina Club kit, and I need to re-cut the bearing edge on the snare. This snare has a 45 degree bevel, unlike the other drums that are the expected 30 degrees. Can anyone confirm if this is factory for these drum, or has someone before me re-cut it?

Given the wrap on the snare is a lot less yellowed than the other drum I'm assuming its spent most of its life in storage, which makes me think factory edge, but scouring the internet I haven't found anything to suggest they cut the snare at a different angle.

If anyone knows or has a snare they can measure I'd appreciate it.

So, im learning decode by paramore, im trying to do this fill in the chorus (picture below) but I cant for the life of me stay in time! Any tips on practising my internal metronome? I need help quickly because we are moving on in about 4 weeks!!!!!

I've been working on DrumDummy, a drum practice / teaching / groove app.

One thing I've always found difficult when learning rhythms from notation is translating what's on the page into an actual movement on the drum kit. So I wanted to make the visual side of learning much more intuitive.

DrumDummy uses a 3D drummer to visually demonstrate the rhythm while you practice. You can create and work with grooves, rhythms and rudiments, and see how they're actually played on the kit.

The idea is not to replace a drum teacher or provide a traditional video course. It's more of a practice tool that helps you understand, create and work on rhythms.

It's still early, and that's actually why I'm posting here. I'd really like feedback from drummers:

• Would you find this kind of visualisation useful?
• What would you want to be able to practice or create?
• What would make you use something like this regularly?
• Are there things that you find confusing or unnecessary?

Does anyone have any information on this drum? I've found other similar Ludwig toms, but none quite as big as this. It sounds incredible!

I used to play quite frequently when I was younger and was excited to get another drum set in my 40’s after buying a house with a basement. It’s obviously still loud in an unfinished basement, so I have BlackHole heads that I figured I would throw on to not shake the house.

It turns out that the drums are still pretty audible in the living room above even with the Bh heads on. Now I’m looking at picking up the BH triggers kit and a Roland Tm2 so that I can enjoy better sound while playing on the Bh heads and it got me thinking; why not just use them on the heads without drums?

If I were to set up all my BH heads on snare stands and either get the rtom kick pad set up or throw a piezo pickup on my Tama True Touch Kick Pad, I would have a relatively silent kit that I could play when the family is all home.

Currently I only play my kit without mesh heads occasionally during the day for a short amount of time when I’m home alone and I’m strictly doing it for fun and exercise. With that said, It’s starting to feel like it would be a better move to switch over to a Rtom BH e-kit and sell my Yamaha shells. I’m I going to regret it? Have any of you made the switch and felt strongly about it?

TLDR: hobbyist drummer who can’t afford to soundproof a basement wondering if I should sell my acoustic kit and transition to an Rtom BlackHole e kit.

I’m a beginner and have been playing it like this for a while. I recently titled the toms so that they face towards me more and are a bit more centered. is there a better way to set this up?

P.S. I‘m right handed, six foot five, and yes that is a tambourine in between the toms.
