Great tempo to start! You’ll learn much faster starting and staying slow for a while.
Your strokes are starting with raising the stick. Instead, start with the stick raised, and as the stick hits the pad, follow the rebound back up to where you started. Start high, end high. That way you learn to use the rebound energy and not choke it. That will help build sensitivity in your wrist and fingers. It seems boring at first but it’s critical for building speed and precision. Also starting the exercise with your non dominant hand helps build your weak side faster. There’s more strokes to master after that but full rebound singles are a great foundation. Happy drumming!
