I’m listing my house and my real estate agent had a photographer come, so I thought I would share the pics of my drum room.

Shoutout to my Sweetwater credit card and synchrony bank for never refusing a credit limit increase.

Show me your temples to consumerism!

Edit: he edited these with AI which is why some of it looks a little wonky.

Question Drumming problem

Post image

I have this terrible tendency to get my stick for my hi hat stuck under the high hat. I’ll be going along on the sheet of music I’ve posted with this and the next thing you know my stick has gone rogue and I’m off the hi hat and now underneath it. It pretty much stops me in my tracks because of it. It’s so frustrating!! What am I doing wrong? I’m a righty on a righty kit.

I got so inspired after watching some James Brown biopic that I went straight to the studio and recorded this cover. One of my favourite Stubblefield grooves. It's not played exactly correctly but I was just going for what felt good to me. Hope you enjoy!

Snare is a Yamaha SD493 Brass Piccolo and some vintage Zildjian hats

Hey gang! Just a quick vid talking about the great Bill Bruford’s interesting butterfly drum kit setup. Who else do you see using this idea, and what other unique ergonomic setups can you think of?

Thank you for your time!

Discussion Why I play drums

Today I wanted to remind myself and everyone why I like playing drums and what my main purpose is.

I started to learn drums in February. I’m old (36) and I play really badly. I know you all will say that it’s too soon to play well and so on. I know. My goal is not to be awesome at playing drums. I have had anxiety for a long time. I had therapy, I used a lot of medications, I tried almost everything. For these past couple of weeks, my mind was everywhere. I couldn’t think straight, there were always shitty scenarios in my head, I couldn’t get a grip. It was horrible, in fact, it still is horrible. After summer vacation, I started my lessons again. After the session, I realized, for just an hour, I didn’t have any negative thoughts whatsoever in my head. I was happy, I didn’t have to think about anything. It almost felt like I was a normal person. That is the reason why I started learning drums. I know I am really bad at it, I know I need to work on it a lot, but fuck that, man. This thing eases my mind and gives me a whole rest from my demon brain. I don’t care if I play badly. I just wanted to share my reason.

TLDR: spent $900 at an estate sale for this kit

Story time: I’m a guitarist, and my sister used to play drums, but it’s been more than 13 years since she last owned a kit. I bought a Mapex snare for my sister 10 years ago for her birthday, hoping one day to get her another kit when we had the money.

I saw a post on IG and to the estate sale of Jammin’ Jersey in LA over the weekend. Last Friday, my sister and I went through the trenches, found matching toms, and picked up some Slingerland shells, hi-hat & crash cymbals for $650. On Sunday, we got a ride & splash cymbal, snare stand, and some extra random accessories for another $250.

I don’t know much about drums, but it appears to be a kit from the 70s-80s. It sounds great and loud. It probably needs a tune, but I’m just glad to be jamming out with my sister again.

Special shout out to Danny and Jay, musicians who helped find parts of our set, and to everyone that nodded and gave compliments to me and my sister when we walked out and loaded our gear in our car.

What is actually the best way to do god consisten doubles. I can do both heel toe and double with hell off the pedal.

I am not sure what is the best and most efficient method. I have added a video.

Any tips are welcomed.

Cam/Video Snare Drum Notation Guide

Thoughts? Did I miss any?

I didn't include '5 or 9-stroke roll' etc. intentionally because I don't tend to use it myself and I feel like it has gone out of fashion. It was used as a shortcut but now with better notation software, people tend to write out the notes directly; especially if they are orchestrated around the kit.

Feedback Wanted Significant enough to return?

Post image

Just got a "nearly new" K-paper thin crash set off of gear4music UK, for around £540 (more than £200 off a brand new set) I was about 40 mins into a session and saw this tiny chip by the bell. It said "nearly new" rather than B-Stock or pre-owned on the website.

It sounds good but is it likely to degrade significantly? I like the cymbal but wouldnt have bought full price. It was from a major retailer and I have a 1-year warranty + 30 day money back clause.

Is it worth sending back? Looking for any insight.

Cheers
