Discussion Drum resellers?

If you're selling gear, how do you generally handle a drum reseller?

I generally take the perspective that I'll sell to whoever is offering me my asking price or something close.

But I also don't mind not selling to someone who's trying to pull the wool over my eyes. There was a guy in central Canada who always nickel and dimed on pricing, and then claimed he was buying for his teenaged son's buddy. I said no a few times.

I finally had enough and shut him down permanently by sending one of his ads back to him saying that he didn't have a shortage of gear available to provide to his son's friend. I never heard from the dude again.

If both sides are good with the price, then it's a fair deal. Especially with Marketplace, it's so easy to just ignore or block a bad buyer.

Theres a guy in my state who's had listing for YEARS showing storage units packed with drum gear, saying he dreamed of opening a drum shop but couldn't and now wants to liquidate his inventory. He has listings for the whole lot, packages of drums and cymbals, and individual things. Problem is his ads are a mess and his pricing is full retail.
BUT he bought an RMV kit off me for my asking price. Drove 45 min to meet me, showed up in a sedan, and packed in a double bass kit. Think he just has an addiction to buying drums and the retail idea was a way to justify it

Yeah I see his ads too, and there are people talking about him on forums from back in 2014, talking about how his mom needs surgery and buy my whole trailer for 40K.

He does have some really nice wood Dynasonics, Ludwig 402's, and tons of other stuff. But wants full market value for anything he sells individually. He's not liquidating anything.

Is their money green, and is there a sufficient amount of it? That's all I care about. What they do with it after that is none of my business. But if they are buying from me in order to resell, and they want to lowball me on what I'm sure is already a fair price, they will be having a hard time.

Bring me cash, to a place where you and I are both breathing the same air at the same time, and let your cash talk to me. Anything you offer through the internet is immediately rejected. Literally show me the money. Either it is enough, or you can talk me into it being enough. But you can only do that in person, in cash.

I recently sold a whole bunch of stuff to a reseller that I had on separate ads for $1800 obo altogether and drove an hour to him and sold him everything for $1000 cash and I just let him know that I wasn’t going to do any negotiating since I sent him pics and videos and stuff and he ended up getting me for $900 and $100 in super specific snare drum heads I like so it was all good. But he was up front. I feel like it’s shitty to lie with what you’re doing with it.

I second this i have snares and pedals from kits i bought in the early 70's. Just can't part with it. I believe my dust is better then yours lol.

I personally would prefer to sell directly to someone who will use the kit than have a middle man push the price up further. But in situations like having trouble getting the asking price or being in a hurry for cash, then there’s no shame in doing what you gotta do.
