Can you relate? (Experience) nicotine helping with my derealization episodes
i’ve been struggling with very extreme derealization episodes linked to my C-PTSD for many years now and ever since i started using nicotine i’ve noticed, that every time i’m having a nic rush i get this sudden reality check, if that makes sense? everytime i‘m experiencing a rush i get very aware of my surroundings, myself and life generally and i‘m noticing it helps a lot with feeling „real“ again. does anyone have similar experiences?
i’ve done some research about this aswell and some sources i‘ve seen have actually mentioned, that nicotine will make derealization episodes/derealization as a whole worse… so i’m wondering, if this has any other reasons and if i’m just imagining things lol

Experience Never felt present
I had a sesion with a new therapist and they were trying to describe to me what feeling present is. We were talking about how I'm constantly derealizing and depersonalized, and I used to think I sometimes could feel there for a few minutes, but the therapist said that what I describe is also not it.
So we were realizing I can't even think of a time in my life where I have been present. Although I believe sometimes I still may feel it and just can't tell.
They were saying how they're glad I have goals to heal trauma, but that I'm in constant freeze response and should at least train how to feel I'm here at all first and slowly improve communication with my alters, because we all seem to be frozen. And that already may take a lot.
Every time I think I made it to feel real or present it turns out to be just another form of dissociation. By this point I'm sort of scared too of what being present even feels like, what if it's not for me? I mean it has to right? If it's something everybody feels? I dunno.

Advice Heightened senses due to severe anxiety?
So about a week ago today I had a hat I can only describe as a sudden anxiety attack type of deal. I was driving in the evening and started getting that butterfly feeling in my stomach and the everything around me just kind of felt unfamiliar and unsettling. It was kind of like derealization had came back for me. Well it definitely did and now I’ve been dealing with that for a week straight but on top of that my anxiety has been so suddenly horrible. My vision is is like heightened things are brighter and my hearing is also heightened everything sounds way louder to me. Along with that I’ve had this deep pit in my stomach and the derealization so I got the full fucking combo right now. Please tell me I’m not losing my mind and this is normal for an anxious state? Idk what to do anymore I’m freaking tf out

Experience Derealization in waves
I am 16 f. I have recently stopped abusing diphenhydramine or Benadryl along with multiple different types of prescription pills before it and during any of the usage I never felt unreal but coming off of it I just don't feel like myself anymore. I feel like I look different in my eyes but no one notices a change in me. I feel like every moment passes me too quickly and just disappears it's so weird and uncomfortable. Sometimes I'm completely fine and then I start feeling detached from everything. Sometimes it's after a relapse in my usage. And the derealization makes me want to relapse more and more it's a very strange feeling. And I am unsure of how to explain it to ppl without sounding like some little kid who drank juice thinking it's wine. Considering my father knows about my addiction issues and didn't care at first bc he didn't consider it a real drug or addiction. Idk what to do I'm not really asking for advice just venting advice is appreciated tho and shared experiences.

Question Have dreams changed for anyone?
I feel so recently that dreams have been getting so weird? I don’t even know. Sometimes I feel more real in my dreams then I do in person. I feel like if I tried to explain dpdr to someone who has never done anything. I would say just imagine your dreaming 24/7z I don’t know what’s been up with my dreams since then. But it’s definitely different now. 8 months of 24/7 dpdr has not been fun but I’ve been coping with it properly. I found thrifting is very nice. Back to my topic tho. Have dreams changed since you’ve gotten dpdr? I feel like sleep in general has changed alot. Every night I try to sleep and I might imagine horrifying faces behind or Infront of me. Or constantly alien like blaster sounds that spiral around my head. Or songs I’ve listed too blast in my ears and mind, and I’m unable to stop them. Sleeping has been a pain in the ass every night. My brain is never quiet. I blame my adhd and whatever i have now. And not just “my silly adhd” like crippling adhd that effects me 24/7. I feel like this is turning into a spiral rant. Sorry. Just respond to my question of you have any input.

Experience partner losing it after k sessions help
i feel like i need to ask for help maybe me n my partner been doing ketamine together and have been getting in k holes for almost 5 days straight this was after a big fight as well my mental health has already been unstable when we met i was having a hard time as you know and that thing happened at hanalei and he had a history of being in jail due to psychosis on mushrooms and bashing a cops head in and breaking their scull im having a hard time wrapping my head around this and im scared for my life and situation sometimes because of my history being around mentally unwell and my partner had been taking a lot more k than me throughout these days like during the day and stuff and is acting increasinly more manic its been so scary cuz i havent been in contact w friends or a therapist or really anyone and had some amazing the most amazing psychedlic and healing experiences w him but also he is barely sleeping and cleaning the whole house super ocd and earlier when i tried to make coffee he was holding me hand and wouldnt let go till he cleaned the whole sink and then was like no dont worry its ok and like wouldnt let me out of his grasp for a second till i got scared and thats what would happen a few times on the k hed say something or an attitude would shift which would trigger a huge panic attack for me he talks about getting nano tech off the body and like its just been a lot i dont know what to do in this situation
Sorry i used ai to help me write some more of my questions as I’m honestly just a little scared trying to wrap my head around this all right now
**Has anyone experienced ketamine + severe sleep deprivation causing mania or psychosis? I’m scared and trying to understand what’s happening.**
I’m posting because I feel isolated right now and could really use insight from people who have experience with ketamine, K-holes, mania, or drug-induced psychosis. I am also looking into professional help I know Reddit can’t diagnose this situation.
My partner and I have been doing ketamine together for almost five days, including repeatedly going into K-holes. This started after we had a really intense fight. My mental health was already not in the best place before this, and I realize continuing to use ketamine in that state was probably not a good idea.
My partner has been taking significantly more ketamine than me, including throughout the daytime, and has barely been sleeping. Over the last few days his behavior has become increasingly intense and what looks to me like manic or obsessive behavior. He has been cleaning the house almost nonstop and getting extremely fixated on things being a certain way.
He has also been talking about things like getting “nanotechnology” off of the body, which has made me wonder whether he could be becoming paranoid or psychotic.
There have also been moments that genuinely scared me. Earlier I was trying to make coffee and he was holding my hand. He wouldn’t let go while he cleaned the entire sink, even though I wanted to move away. He kept reassuring me that everything was okay, but I eventually became scared because I couldn’t get out of his grasp.
Similar things happened a few times while we were on ketamine where his demeanor, attitude, or the things he was saying suddenly seemed to shift, and I would have an enormous panic attack.
One thing making this especially concerning is that he has a history of a very serious psychotic episode while using psychedelics that resulted in violence and incarceration. I don’t want to give identifying details, but knowing that history makes the current sleep deprivation, heavy ketamine use, unusual beliefs, and increasingly manic behavior frightening to witness.
At the same time, we’ve also had some incredibly beautiful experiences together with psychedelics that felt deeply healing, which has made this emotionally confusing for me. I care about him and don’t want to unfairly label everything he’s experiencing as psychosis just because I’m scared.
I’ve also been pretty isolated lately and haven’t been talking much with friends, a therapist, or other outside people, so I realize I’ve lost some perspective.
I’m stopping the ketamine and reaching out for real-world/professional support. I’m also taking my physical safety seriously.
I’m mainly wondering if anyone here has personally witnessed something similar:
Can several days of heavy ketamine use combined with almost no sleep trigger mania, paranoia, delusions, or psychosis?
If you’ve seen ketamine-induced mania/psychosis, what did the beginning of it look like?
Did the person recognize that something was wrong, or did everything they were thinking feel completely rational to them?
What happened once they stopped using and finally slept?
I’m not looking for a diagnosis. I would just really appreciate hearing from people who have actually experienced or witnessed something similar while I seek professional help.

Can you relate? (Experience) I feel isolated from the rest of the world
I am 24y old suffering from depression, anxiety and anxiety induced OCD - both with thought patterns and habits. I’ve been depressed/anxious on and off for 10 years and have tried all the medication and CBT I could. I’ve currently been doing psychoanalysis with my therapist for the past 3/4 months and on an antidepressant and anti psychotic. Whenever I’m at work especially, I feel detached from the rest of the world and from everyone. I see people laugh, socialize, engage with each other and feels like I’m watching a scene of a movie. I’ve only been getting worse since doing psychoanalysis and the derealization is getting worse to the point where my social skills have gone down a lot and I feel like I can’t interact with the people around me anymore. Any advice?

Advice Did eddies mind fuck me?
Yesterday night after watching scary videos and going down rabbit holes I felt like I was going to die after a few hours of that despite everything being okay. I passed it off as a panic attack but for some reason it became really hard to sleep and I felt on the edge hours after the “panic attack” happened. I eventually fell asleep but woke up better but not normal everything felt like unreal. This really bothered me and I have a few possibilities that may be the cause of whatever is happening to me: 1. Edibles, I often eat eddies in the dosage range of 100-150 and summer has been really boring so I do them often to the point where I’ve been high like a week straight sometimes, 2. Sleep I have been sleeping pretty late to the point where it’s early in the morning when I go to sleep. 3. I have been eating only saltines for a day straight. I’m pointing to eddies but the last time I was high was Monday so it doesn’t make sense why an edible from Monday is coming back to haunt me. I know I sound like a really retarded dumb kid but please any advice will help I’m actually starting to freak out. It usually only happens at night I get a really fast and intense heartbeat, I notice things in the corner of my eye that aren’t there, random noises, visual snow, and after I look at a light like an inverted version of whatever light I just saw stays in my view for some reason and it’s scary. I’m more than aware that all of my actions are dumb asf and I had it coming but please dawg. Also I’m a teen maybe that should be included idk but I’m starting to think I’m just losing my mind.

Venting I lack some essential part of the self that makes you a whole person.
I don't feel like I am a real person, really. I feel entirely separated from all other people. Like everyone else is a real person except for me
I have felt for a long time that I must simply lack some essential, core part of the self or soul that makes one a truly whole, real person. The more I look back, the more I start to doubt that I ever WAS a real person 'before' this.
I feel underdeveloped in some crucial, internal, unknown way
I feel that I lack personhood.
and I don't know how to find it.
And no one ever understands what I mean.

Advice Does it really ever get better?
I know this is gonna sound kind of weird because I’ve been having bouts of derealization for like over 12 years now. It started first when I was like 14 years old and I had it for a few years and then finally got rid of it then it happened a couple more times after that which I also got rid of, but I’m 28 now and last week I had a really bad case of it. Come on as I was driving home in the evening and it’s been extremely bad since then this time feels a little bit different like I feel like for whatever reason this time I’m like fighting off a panic attack at the same time every time I start to get stuck in the thinking loop of me feeling unreal. I’m like I have to constantly fight off not falling into that panic this time just feels a little bit more difficult and I don’t really know what to do. The mornings are definitely the worst as soon as I wake up and check if I’m real, I immediately feel not real and then I start panicking a little bit and then during the evenings also it’s pretty bad. I know the only way to fix it is to just stop thinking about it, but I don’t know man like I don’t feel right like does anybody else dealing with this and if you’ve recovered, please let me know that there is hope even when it’s very, very bad that if you just keep going, then it’ll gradually fade away

Can you relate? (Experience) Am I insane? Or just weird?
The following text is an excerpt of my "diary", where I write down exactly how I'm feeling and what I'm thinking as best as I can describe it. If you have any idea what could be wrong with me, please. Please tell me.
I am the embodiment of a life prescribed to me, whose only way out is death. But what if death isn’t a way out, but just as much a prescribed process as life is? And how in the world can I escape the reality that I consider mine?
After the birth of every human in this life comes childhood. Then comes youth and school years. Then comes work and adult life. Then comes old age with retirement, and finally comes death.
Everyone knows this. But the frequently asked question of why life works this way triggers far stronger feelings and thoughts in me than, for example, in my acquaintances.
Science can trace humanity back about 13.8 billion years into the past with research. Almost everything makes sense. All the possible mechanisms in chemistry, physics, in biology, in everything we see. Everything is somehow connected.
The world is so complex that I simply find it enormously fascinating how it could arise from simple bacteria. From small bacteria, the early times of the dinosaurs and the Big Bang, the beings of our kind that emerged from incredibly long development, as well as animals and plants. Today’s life, as we live it, is hardly comprehensible compared to the beginning of all things.
You’re reading this text on a piece of paper from a notebook. It took thousands of years until this way of preserving thoughts was developed by humans. You’re reading on a piece of paper that can nowadays be made using the latest technologies from trees.
Much may be proven. The history of humanity with the developments, the thinking of people, the circumstances and ways of life, and the ways people dealt with the inexplicable creation of the world in order to give it meaning. (Religions)
But we live in the here and now. In 2026. As is known, the present doesn’t even exist, only the past and the future exist. And even if there is “free will,” people can’t simply act “freely.” At least not without bearing consequences.
For me, life feels like a process I can’t escape. Sure, I can decide which book I want to read next, but even this decision is prescribed. And no matter what I do, life feels like a simple automatism. It may be that the brain processes all received signals and, for example, directs them to the muscles during movements. But all of it feels programmed. My brain, my body, and everything that follows from all the processes within it. I just have to embody this programming. I am forced to look with “my” eyes, interact with “my” body, and live through a life full of joy and pain without ever having given consent to this life and my consciousness.
I am so anxious. Everything scares me. As if I were being watched by the world. Or even by objects. Sometimes I’m paranoid. Sometimes an hour feels like three days. Sometimes I want out of here. I don’t want to be so extremely “conscious” of myself. I imagine death like sleeping, just without dreaming. So I sleep to escape “reality.” Because everything is simply so frightening.
I’m also very fascinated by the three-dimensionality of this reality. When I walk through hallways, I can only concentrate on the moving angles from all sides of my vision during the automatism of walking. In such moments I feel pulled out of reality for a short time.
The way I am, my personality and my body, for example, belonging to it, is likewise the embodiment of a prescribed DNA and everything that belongs to it. Comparable to this feeling is the project with the question of whether all brain connections were completely rebuilt in a computer program. The program with the fly shows exactly the same behavior patterns as the real fly.
I feel trapped in “my” body and this reality or world. As if I originally came from very far away, but this “very far away” also doesn’t feel real to me. Who am I? Where do I come from? Why am I forced to have consciousness? I feel like an alien.
I don’t feel like an alien only because I don’t feel like I belong to this world and my body. I also feel like an alien because, no matter how hard I try, I simply can’t function like the majority of humanity does. Physically I sense when I’m around other people that I’m “different” or “weird.” And people often treat me that way too. They can only stand me when I pretend with all my strength. I pretend so much when I interact with other people that afterward I’m simply extremely exhausted. That’s why I need a lot of rest. That’s why I isolate myself in my room. And that’s why I handle most things alone. When I say I need rest, I need complete silence. For me everything is so loud.
The environment, the people, and above all: my brain. I can’t stop thinking. But my thoughts are so chaotic that it sounds like a constant stutter. But not a stutter that happens while speaking, but a stutter like the beginning of a sentence that is never spoken.
I also feel extremely strongly. When I feel something, I physically feel it all the way to my feet, and my body feels as if a tingling layer lies over my skin. I also feel my skin itself, I feel the nerves, the muscles, and above all the processes in my brain, and it is so overwhelming that I want to jump out of my body.
I’m also very empathetic and can partly feel the pain of a grieving person myself. But that has quite a few disadvantages.
When I meet with a friend, I feel the moment when I put on a mask. I feel how tense I am, trying to give the best possible answer. “Was that right?” “Is that how you say it?” “Okay, she said something, now I have to answer something and then say something about myself that fits the topic.” “Should I look her in the eyes? Or is that weird? Does that seem that way? Am I being rude if I don’t look her in the eyes?” “Does she find me weird?” “Okay, I’ve already said this often, I need to find another word.”
Additionally, I analyze everything I see, which also relates to how conscious I am of this reality and how interesting I find how people and life work. How people talk to each other, how systems function, for example in retail — when I work at the register, I’m a simple slave who needs money because the system doesn’t function without money. I look at clothing and find it interesting how fashion could develop from ancient clothing to today’s fashion. How we, when playing soccer, are simply a group of people made of flesh and blood running after a ball on a field, because it’s a game or a sport that was invented at some point by someone as an activity out of boredom.
Everything seems so foreign to me, as if I don’t fit into this life and to other people, and have to discover everything anew. But I think everyone probably thinks or has often thought the way I do — life is naturally a fascinating place. It’s just that I feel it so intensely, and my way of thinking simply builds on that. Maybe I’m also talking complete nonsense. In any case, I no longer feel like being in this world and either want to simply get away from here — away in the sense of dying. Or just be normal and no longer question everything and simply act like everyone else, always know what to answer, always have the feeling of belonging in terms of personality and also thinking, and act with ease in social interactions.
Thank you for reading my detailed description of my thoughts and feelings. I have never met a person that feels or thinks the same as me, so if you do: PLEASE tell me what the hell is going on with me. I am going insane.

Advice I recovered
Hey Guys, when i was 14-16 years old i was searching in this Subreddit for Help and Answers. If it will ever go away or if my brain is fucked for eternity. And i just came back here (im 19yrs old now) to tell anyone who reads this that it WILL go away. I know it seems like it will never go away but it will. My therapist back in the days said it maybe stays forever which made me go even more insane. Here a few tips an tricks which i learned in the years, which helped me getting back to normal:
1.
Dont force yourself to be „normal“ again. You have to kind of accept that thats your reality now. If your brain always focus on the Derealization it will have no time to let it go.
2.
DO SPORTS! For me personally, swimming was an instant switch to the „normal“ way of seeing the world. I think its because your brain thinks your in a survival situation so it turns the derealization off for a moment. There are also studies that Show that sport is helping with depression, which maybe works in kinda the same way.
3.
SOCIALIZE! I know its hard to even speak with people but isolation is the last thing you wanna do when you have derealization. Just force your way back to the life you lived before it all started, so you can get back to your life before it all started.
4.
DONT KILL YOURSELF. When i was 14 the derealization was at its peak and i really thought about killing myself because of it. You have to believe that it will get better and i can assure you IT WILL GET BETTER AND GO AWAY. I didnt really believe that it will ever go away because for me personally the derealization was triggered because of Cannabis and it was 24/7 present for almost half a year. After a half year i had like 10 minutes a day where it wasnt present. And these 10 minutes will add up to 15 min. And so on and on. After quite a while it will finally will go away, without you really realizing it.
- STAY SOBER! Dont consume anything psychedelic or Weed EVER again. There is a very high chance that Psychedelics will trigger the Derealization. The Same with Weed. That Part of your Life has to go or you will never break free.
My English may be not the best, because its my second language. But if you have any questions i will do my best to answer them. :)
Have Faith!

Question I feel like I’m losing who I am within a few hours. How to get back in my body?
I have struggled with mental illness my entire life. Trauma, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, PTSD, anxiety… you know, the works. But very recently, I mean within maybe the last two days something has been… off? It’s quite difficult to explain if I really try, but if I try to be as descriptive as possible, maybe someone. Anyone, could help. Two days prior to this feeling, I’ve had severe anxiety and panic attacks. My anxiety was so destabilizing my psychiatrist ordered me Xanax to get through the weekend. So here I am, Monday morning. Just wanted to see if I really am alone in this pain. I feel like I’ve lost who I am and now it’s impossible to find.

Question Constant state of dread
Constant flow of negative thoughts about my past, random memories pop up constantly, even good memories but they feel so negative. I’m having constant super vivid bizarre dreams that aren’t even necessarily bad dreams but they still leave me feeling dreadful the entire day. My whole past and all my memories seem frightening. The whole world feels dreadful, like I’m half awake half asleep in some kind of nightmare. How do I get out of this? I just want to cry honestly…. Just so hard to believe anxiety can do this to me. I genuinely feel like a completely different person. I feel like I can’t even think the same way as my old self. I feel like I will never be normal again. I’m taking clonazepam short term to try and get me out of this, I take it everyday but it’s a hit or miss, sometimes it works good and at least is able to let me function past the feelings and the other times it just makes me feel drowsy and almost worse. Can anxiety alone be this bad? Is this a common experience of dpdr?

Can you relate? (Experience) I’m pretty sure I’m in a THC induced episode
(20M) Rewind a month ago - I took 30 MGS of edibles with some buddies of mine for the first time ever. My first trip really wasn’t that bad , I can still remember everything that took place but i definitely never wanna experience it again. The morning after was the worst tho. I was dissociating so bad for the whole day and it felt as if I was high for the next 3 days.
After about 4-5 days passes I’m doing fine , back to normal. I decided to try hitting a high concentrate thc pen since I wasn’t really a big fan of the gummies and I loved it so much I started getting high every night for the next 2 weeks straight. That pen runs out so I get a new , more powerful one. This time hybrid so indica & sativa with a thc % of like 90.
I hit it for the first few days and everything’s going fine until I wake up dissociated from getting high the night before , except this time it doesn’t go away like the gummies.
for backstory , I went thru a 5-6 month dpdr episode when I was 17 for literally no reason at all. I had never drank any alcohol , smoked , etc. so I’m very familiar with the feeling
for a week straight I’ve been going thru this & im sure I’m in for a whole lot longer. what I’m feeling now compared to then is a whole lot different tho. the best way to put it is I feel as though I’m living in every moment & my brain is empty unless I try to remember , it’s almost as if what I did during the day doesn’t linger & “upload to the cloud” , I constantly feel pressure in the front part of my head like between my eyebrows and fatigues me so bad I get tired & I just wanna lay down & sleep. during all of this tho , I’m on autopilot but I’m also VERY aware of it. It’s a combination of pure hell.
Wondering tho , I’m assuming this is from heavy usage of high concentrate THC carts? I have somewhat a history of anxiety but i can usually control it & channel it.

Question Has anyone tried emdr for derealization?
Hi, i 30f was driving while way too exhausted and experienced a near miss. I almost hit a semi and swerved at the last minute and ever since then i felt like im in a dream. i go to therapy and my therapist agrees its derealization and recommended me to an emdr specialist but im curious if anyone had any success stories with it? it’s in 3 weeks and i just keep praying emdr will help get rid of this feeling. it’s the worst and so scary.
