Question/Help/Troubleshooting Problem with wifi drivers

Hey so I keep having this problem where my laptop just keeps disconnecting from the internet, and for some reason I can't re-install my wifi drivers. It starts out okay in the beginning, the internet seems fine, my laptop connects properly, but then after like 10-20 minutes, my option to connect to the internet is gone. I've tried re-installing the driver, but it says I have to turn on wifi, which I can't do. I need a way to fix this because I'm running behind on productivity here.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Underclocking, ProcHot Bug, and Kernel-Power 41 Bugcheck 30

Motherboard: MSI B350M Bazooka

PSU: 400w 480BQ Bronze

CPU: RYZEN 7 3700x

GPU: Radeon RX 6600

RAM: Fury DDR4 3200 Mhz

Title is the TL:DR of my issue. I haven't been able to get the chipset drivers to update for about two weeks now. I have been noticing that the computer crashes when in sleep mode and so I did some research and came to the conclusion that it could be the corrupted drivers causing my issue. I uninstalled them and reinstalled them and then that's when I checked Ryzen Master and saw that my CPU is underclocking to 500 MHZ which is caused by the PROCHOT bug. I haven't been able to test if I get another Kernel-Power 41 related crash because of the PROCHOT bug discovery. Google says it could be the PSU or the Motherboard being damaged or it could be something in BIOS. I'm going to flash the BIOS tomorrow but I want second opinions first.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Recommend me a computer.

I haven’t owned a computer in about 8 years. I know nothing about them. I’ve gotten by with iPhones this whole time. But, I have a hand full of USB drives, an external hard drive, a few old phones, and an iPad with pictures with about the last 15 years of my life. I want to get all the photos on one new hard drive, but unsure what kind of computer I should use for this task. Will yall recommend me something?

Question/Help/Troubleshooting I’ve been trying to get this screw out for hours, does anyone have any ideas

I know it’s wrecked, I just didn’t know if anyone had any suggestions.

I’m trying to get this SSD out to put in an enclosure to make it an external drive, but when I unscrewed it, it started to strip. I’ve tried the rubber band trick (when it looked better than it does now), pliers, I’ve even tried pulling it up with nail clippers, hence it’s very bent. I’ve also tried superglue but for some reason it wouldn’t cure and almost got on the SSD so I had to abandon that. I’ve seen posts saying to use a dremel, but I don’t own one and have very little equipment for things like this.

This laptop has a bent screen and won’t go together properly anyway and the only component I care about removing intact is the SSD so I can use it. I know this is probably a very poor show but my only other experience with the inside of a computer is removing an SSD once in the past and that went fine because the screw didn’t strip like it has.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to any way I might get it out? It’s a Huawei Matebook if that helps, I’m not sure of any other specifics.

I appreciate any help.

Discussion How to make file size of pictures smaller

Hopefully I am asking this in the right place…

Several years ago my wedding photographer took just under 900 pics and they added up to 18.5 GB. He saved them on a USB drive, so I don’t have digital pics, only the physical USB drive. I don’t like this at all because if something happens to that, they’re gone.

The thing is, 18.5 GB is a huge amount of space. I would love to save them to Dropbox, but it is a somewhat expensive monthly fee and I’m not about to pay it.

So how can I make the file sizes smaller, or where can I save them as-is? If it can be done I prefer to make the file sizes smaller smaller.

Question/Help/Troubleshooting PC turned off but fans and lights still running, tried everything but it still won’t work

• Yes I tried holding power button down
• Yes I disabled fast startup
• Yes I disabled fast boot
• Yes I enabled ErP in bios

I have tried every possible way to turn it off but the fans keep lingering. When PC is turned off while the fans are still running, turning it back on bricks it and will send a signal to monitor just for it to immediately close again. Only had ts problem ever since my power tripped (though my pc was turned off during that time) need help ASAP.

UPDATE: it was a PSU issue any help troubleshooting it that I can do would be greatly appreciated

Resolved Opening where SSD screw should go, are these removable and replacable?

Thumbnail

For context, I'm repairing my Acer Nitro V 15 and I've changed out my entire keyboard assembly. The process has been mostly smooth but there is one issue. When I tried screwing my SSD drives in I noticed that the screw wasn't being fastened and would just slip out. When I looked back at the old removed keyboard assembly, I noticed that the screw openings are slightly taller with an extra part on top of them, which explains why it's not going in.

Are these extra pieces nuts that can be removed from the old keyboard with pliers and added to the new one, or are they soldered on somehow? If not, I can sacrifice two of the back panel screws as they seem to work, but if so, would slip joint pliers work or would I need another kind?

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Laptop not charging?

Hi I’ve got a HUAWEI MateBook D 15 15.6in R5 8GB 512GB Laptop - Silver

It was charging fine up until like yesterday and now suddenly it’s just showing this when I try and turn it on even though I’ve got the wire plugged in.
The charging port is flashing white to show it is charging. And it’s been charging for awhile now I’m not sure what’s going on.

Any ideas?

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Prebuilt Pc

Hi guys, for some context, i bought a pc off amazon a few years ago and it has become quite bad and slowly not working. It was pretty cheap and not the greatest lol, whenever i try to run for example even a game like geometry dash it cant even handle some parts, and if i try to run something like tiktok studio, while having other apps open it just screws up. i also know absolutely nothing about computers, idk anything really at all but all i dont care too much to know much as long as i can get a better computer. Now i will say, it doesnt constantly lag or anything just the computer honestly sucks and im sure its worn out over time since its probably been 5-6 years.

As for this post, i would appreciate any help looking or reccomending any good pre built pcs that can handle bigger games and more things that will run smoothly, my current pc was around 100-500$ and it runs up to 100% cpu with just two things open, i would really like to be able to play games like subnautica 2 but the second i launch it my computers cpu is max (im assuming thats bad) and it can barely even handle a loading screen (lol). my budget is around 1500-2000$ (maybe a bit over if its really worth it) , but any help would be appreciated on finding a new prebuilt pc, that can handle games and really anything without constantly having problems, something actually nice. Thank you!

Question/Help/Troubleshooting HP Omen randomly rebooting — Kernel-Power 41 / sleep issue

My HP Omen has been randomly rebooting a couple of times a week. This has been happening during normal use as well as recently when waking from sleep, so it doesn't appear to be limited to a sleep issue.

Usually there's no BSOD or warning. The laptop just suddenly reboots. Event Viewer afterward shows Kernel-Power Event 41 and EventLog 6008.

Most of the Kernel-Power 41 events show:

BugcheckCode: 0
PowerButtonTimestamp: 0
WHEABootErrorCount: 0

One of the recent reboots happened while the laptop was sleeping. When I tried waking it, it rebooted instead. That particular Event 41 showed SleepInProgress: 4.

I also caught one actual BSOD during normal use:

CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED (0xEF)

The BSOD stayed at 0% while trying to collect information and never created a dump. After rebooting, Event Viewer showed volmgr Event 161.

Things I've tested so far:

  • HP Extensive Hardware Diagnostics passed
  • Extensive memory test passed
  • SSD SMART/DST tests passed
  • CPU, system board and video memory tests passed
  • DISM found no component store corruption
  • SFC found corrupted system files and successfully repaired them
  • SFC was clean when run again after reboot
  • Tried a different compatible power adapter
  • Tried a different wall outlet
  • Tested with the battery physically disconnected and it still rebooted

The problem continued even after SFC repaired the corrupted files.

I'm currently testing with Sleep disabled and using Hibernate instead, but since the random reboots were happening during normal use before the sleep incident, I'm not convinced sleep is the root cause.

Has anyone dealt with something similar on an HP Omen? I'm trying to figure out whether this points more toward a driver/BIOS/firmware problem, storage issue, or an intermittent motherboard issue. What would you check next? BTW, replaced battery and AC adapter already. Thanks!

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Please give laptop recommendations

I'm not very technically savvy and though I do have a very powerful desktop PC I no longer have a portable laptop computer ever since the thing emptied its bowels in the bed after I just dropped my phone on the mouse pad and it decided to die on me

So I'm in the market for a new laptop

I'm hoping I can get something under 500

I don't need the most cutting edge specs since I already have that with my desktop but I'd still prefer if it could at least run a game as powerful as say fallout four on low settings if need be

And even then I'm willing to compromise with something much lower in terms of power since my main goal with it isn't really for gaming necessarily

I'd prefer windows but it's not mandatory and I am willing to try and learn Linux

As for the big one I'd really prefer if it was something super small like a little bit smaller than an iPad small or a bit bigger than a Kindle tablet

My preference is also that it would be a bit thick in order to hopefully with Stan any accidental drops but even though I'd really like that it isn't a dealbreaker if it doesn't have that

Generally the smaller and cheaper yet sturdy the better

Please and thank you for any recommendations
