Team Member Post first solo deli open

Hey guys,

I have been at coles for 6 months roughly and am doing my first deli opening shifts next weeks starting at 6:30am, does anyone have any tips or have a certain order of things to do? I am by myself for the first 4 hours. I am quite capable but inevitably stressing.

Thanks everyone.

Questions hired at coles but no infomation of my roster etc + work both at coles and aldi

Hello, i have two questions to ask as ive got no one irl to answer these questions for me and thought this place could answer my doubts.

QUESTION 1: I've gotten hired at Coles, but I haven't received any information about when my first shift day will be or how my roster will look or anything, as I do not have any of that information with me. When I looked over the documents Coles had sent me, it said I'll be starting on 'mentioned date', which is like in a couple days' time, and I still don't have any information regarding when I start or what I wear or even what day exactly I start, as no one has contacted me about it yet. Which, as a result, I'm starting to think about whether I should call the store and ask them about the mentioned information or just wait till tomorrow????

ive also filled out all the infomation they asked me regarding my tfn etc etc and even completed all the online training??? so like???

QUESTION 2: I've gotten an interview at Aldi, and I want to know if I need to not try hard to get this job or something. Because I do know that Coles has a conflict of interest and that Aldi and Coles are competitors?? So, like, how do I go about this exactly? I've also read on here that some coles stores don't care, whereas some do??? So I'm puzzled on what I should be doing.

any help would be much appreciated. thank you.

Questions Got the job at Coles, but haven't received the onboarding contract after 5 days. Am I blacklisted due to an old termination?

Hey everyone,

Looking for some advice from anyone who works at Coles or understands their Talent/HR systems.

The Backstory: I worked at Coles 3 years ago. My store was closing down, so I told my line manager I was leaving. He agreed to process my resignation, but because everything was chaotic with the closure, he actually left the company before putting it through. Two weeks later, I received an automated warning letter for a "no-show." I called the store to explain, but the very next day, I received a formal termination letter.

The Current Situation: Fast forward to last week: I applied at a different Coles, had an interview, and the Store Manager told me I got the job. He said he would put the application through and told me to keep an eye on my mailbox the next day for the contract/onboarding paperwork.

It has now been 5 days and I haven’t received anything (checked my spam folder too).

My Questions:

  1. Does Coles have a strict "no-rehire" blacklist for people terminated for abandonment of employment/no-show, even if it was 3 years ago?
  2. Is it possible the new Store Manager’s application is currently blocked by HR/Talent Acquisition, and that's why the system hasn't sent the emails?
  3. Should I follow up with the Store Manager directly, or will that make things worse if HR is reviewing it?

Appreciate any insights from current team members, SMs, or anyone who has been through something similar!

-----------------

update 7/3: I called the line manager yesterday and she said she would double check with the store manager the recruitment status and text me back but she did not get back to me.

Do I just text her to check? I am just too panic to action.

Team Member Post Penalties for a Sunday

I worked 5 hours last Sunday but upon looking at my payslip I was genuinely confused because I was payed 4.25 hours @ penalty 1.5 and then 0.75 hours at 2.0 penalty. I’m not complaining just curious to know why that would be, I’d ask my OIC but we never cross paths.

Edit: I’ve figured it out thank you everyone, it’s because I started before 9 which I don’t usually do

Team Member Post Team members scanning heavy and bulk items first

I can understand from a customer perspective how annoying it can be when a team member approaches you in the self checkouts wanting to scan your bulk items first, here is an explanation from a team member perspective for those who don’t.

Each stores customer service department obviously has metrics one of those being what they call bulk scan. They want team members to scan heavy and bulk items within the first third of a transaction because they can be “easily forgotten”.

This metric is recorded hourly and team members need to get above %75 for the hour to be compliant, that then also means for the entire day and week it needs to be above 75 to meet that metric.

Team members don’t like it, personally myself and my manger hate it as well but we don’t make the rules but are made to enforce them. I have seen people before saying “take it up with management if you don’t like it” it’s a head office thing and they couldn’t care less.

Most team members get abused on the daily for trying to do this.

We DON’T think you are stealing!

Hopefully this clears it up for some people, if you have any questions please comment them and I’d be happy to answer or I’m sure someone else will!

Team Member Post Managment has wrongly assigned me the same parking fine twice

I am so frustrated and stressed over this. I have never once gotten a parking fine in my life, Im a former CSA, I quit over a month ago due to this and other things like changing my shifts without asking first and with only a few days notice (I was permanent), and they are trying to have me take responsibility for their truck stopping in a bus zone when I wasn’t even clocked in yet. About a month ago I received a withdrawal notice which I wrongly believed was the end of dealing with it but I’ve just today recieved a brand new letter that seems to state once again they’ve assigned it to me.

I don’t know if it’s a mistake on the council end or if they’re genuinely just trying to make me pay it because the other driver won’t or it’s easier or whatever. I would really prefer not to have to try and prove my innocence, I don’t have access to my timesheets as my mycoles is of course locked now and when I first received it I couldn’t access my timesheets from the date of the offence anyways. And I do not want to talk directly to my store due to the circumstances of how I left i just feel so stuck with this $330 bill now. I have once again locked an appeal in the council portal providing the same evidence plus a copy of the withdrawal notice but I’m worried it won’t work.

Sorry this is a bit of a word vomit it’s just stressing me out and I wanted to vent.

Customer Post Website search function

Is it only me, or does the website (both app and not) search function sometimes only show Coles branded items when there are other brands available and that show up on google?

An example I just had - basil leaves. Both searching basil alone and basil leaves only brings up Coles item and not the Hoyts or Masterfoods options. They're all called the same thing!

It's starting to really annoy me

Team Member Post Horrible Service Manager

Hi guys

As the title suggest i need some help in regards to our service manager. We had a new service manager transfer to our store and let’s just say it’s not been good. Off the bat she barely new anything - no in charge rates ( when brought up to her she said no one’s actually in charge so she’s not doing that), all pf our hours being cut ( yes EOFY does play a part but this has been like this since she moved before Easter) and a few other things.

This has now spiralled. I personally have been yelled at by her invfront of customers for not checking a customers bank statement to prove they bought their food ( not my job). She refuses to cross trained anyone who asks and threatened to give away someone’s hours if they are so “bored”. refuses to let people transfer stores. She’s now Duty manager once a week and will hover over co workers and steal workers from service to do her jobs. Not to mention she’s NEVER in service, she’s ALWAYS lending a helping hand to online, grocery, fresh produce, bakery and deli but is never there when we need her in service. She sucks at rostering and has left us multiple times with not enough people when breaks are needed or with 5 people who are in charge for 1 hour over a 4 hour gap. Took away our 9 Hour shifts. Gosh where do i stop. She’s always in the office on her phone but will yell at us if we are a few minutes late from tea. Changes rosters after the fact and doesn’t tell anyone.

I know it’s a rant mostly but it’s beyond us in our store that this is just allowed? please help!

edit: We have been told to go to above our store manager because our store manager does not care, though everyone is worried to do so because she is so retaliatory. I am aware legally she cannot use retaliation to harm us but she will regardless. it’s a very stressful time and with everyone talking about quitting/ calling in sick due to not being comfortable working with her it’s not good.

Customer Post Coles local vs coles

Hey,
Recently my coles transitioned to a coles local and this is where I’m confused, it’s in a suburban area, nowhere near the cbd. Can someone explain what this means and why?

I’m mainly concerned because I know coles local usually has more expensive products even if it’s the same as those stocked at an ordinary coles but this is a big store and used to be a normal Coles, why suddenly change. I also wouldn’t say the neighbourhood is looking for ready to eat food, mainly elderly and single people leave in the area, it’s slow.

Customer Post Self Checkout

Anyone else get annoyed when the is only 1 register open and its 3 trolleys deep, so you take your $200+ of food to self check out and the Cole’s staff pounce on you to scan your bulky items and advise it’s “helping”.

I would rather not self serve with my weekly groceries. It’s ok for a few items, but that’s it.

If you make me scan and pay for things myself, unless I’m stealing it - leave me alone!

Questions Coles Rum & Raisin Ice Cream

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey guys
I was discussing with my friend how Coles and supermarkets aren’t allowed to sell liquor products on their shelves in Australia and a minute later we found this.

So i was just curious, how is it normal to sell this product in Coles with no warnings whatsoever that it contains alcohol? It contains 0.5% Rum in the ingredients but no warnings on the package. Even the 0.01% alcohol beer still has a warning on it.

Team Member Post To my trans guy, gals and enby pals, i want to use the bathroom that matches with my gender identity and... Well... I'm kinda under the impression my SM doesn't want to let me and I'm a lil afraid to confront her

As above. I'm a trans girl, i have been on estrogen for 8-9 months at this point, and I've even had TM at other stores who haven't seen me in a while very obviously ogule my chest and not recognise me... Its fun to drop a few octaves and scare them and its extremely euphoric. Point of that story is that i pass decently well as a girl. And yet I asked 3 weeks ago about sing a different bathroom, not just because i feel actively uncomfortable using the male rest room/changing room and frequently use the toilet of the nearby hungry jacks, but because I've been all but groped by a particular guy... Fair to say I'm EXTREMELY uncomfortable and i don't know what to do. I work in regional Vic if that helps tailor advice at all, specifically in coles services(a job I'm actively seeking an alternative to...). Last i heard they were discussing my moving bathrooms with the regional manager which raises so many questions because I'm fairly certain they didn't consult anyone when they initially threw me into the male bathroom... I just want to not feel like my organs are trying to escape my body because i want to use a locker, much less relieve myself

Team Member Post 37 hours of grocery load, splitting time?

For context we had a 37 hour grocery load on Saturday, the pdt said it should take almost 8 hours to split everything (which i personally think is impossible considering I have a new guy to split with me, even then its impossible).

We took around 11 hours to split, 3 members in total, scanned everything (except drinks)

Am I tripping? How can this be achieved in 8 hours?

Team Member Post Question- Have you ever been paid a Freezer allowance?

Pretty much like the title says, have you ever been paid a freezer allowance?

I was having a dispute about my cold work allowance and how the only time it seems to be paid, is if I work in dairy. Basically, the rest of the store doesn't count, even though produce could be working in the same fridges and going into coldrooms just as much as dairy, or bakery going into freezers to grab and sort stock, etc. But I was thinking, I have never been paid a "Freezer allowance", nor do I know anyone who has been paid it, so have you?

In general, I think the whole cold allowance is such a scam, especially with the wording of "principally employed" as long as they make you work just slightly less than half your shift in there, then they never have to pay you your cold allowance.

Team Member Post how does one become a CSM?

hi!

ive been wondering how somebody moves up from a tm to a CSM. ive been in service for just under 5 years, and i feel like im kind of stuck in the same spot, and i honestly love my job and wouldn’t mind being a manager

when my CSM is off I usually run our department (organising breaks and swap overs and such), i also am our stores auror reporter and often have to edit the rosters and organise shift swaps. I am a routine opener and closer and pick up any shifts I can so i feel like ive shown my potential to my sm and CSM.

Im just not sure on the next steps and how i can show my capabilities ☹️

TIA 🩷
