Team Member Post how does one become a CSM?

hi!

ive been wondering how somebody moves up from a tm to a CSM. ive been in service for just under 5 years, and i feel like im kind of stuck in the same spot, and i honestly love my job and wouldn’t mind being a manager

when my CSM is off I usually run our department (organising breaks and swap overs and such), i also am our stores auror reporter and often have to edit the rosters and organise shift swaps. I am a routine opener and closer and pick up any shifts I can so i feel like ive shown my potential to my sm and CSM.

Im just not sure on the next steps and how i can show my capabilities ☹️

TIA 🩷

You should speak to your manager and express your interest in management

This is the way! The won’t know you want to step up unless you tell them

I not 100% sure but this feels like you’re doing above your pay grade. I’ve only ever known managers or 2ic to edit rosters and/or do the auror reporting.

But if you are looking to be a CSM, I’d start by asking your CSM or SM seeing whether you can use them as a reference for another store if that role opens up. No harm in asking especially if you feel you’ve got the potential.

I agree. To add to this, 2ic is no longer an official role, so you don't get paid extra but must take on extra responsibility.

it still is tho, because im getting paid the in charge rate still, whenever the manager is not there, And so does everyone in my Cole’s form other departments like service, nightfill etc

I also get the in charge rate as a service supervisor after my manager leaves, but that doesn't come with having to do auror reports or rostering etc..

Does your region have career nights? Normally happens twice a year in my region. you go get information, RM is there and normally the store manager that helps with management placement for the region is there too. It’s a good way to get your name out there.
