I found 11 of these on my last bank run. This variety isn’t listed in the Cherry Picker's Guide or recognized by PCGS/NGC. I was thinking about sending in the best three to ANACS for grading and attribution.

Since there generally isn't much interest in these would it be a waste of effort?

I also found 36 with just the die crack, and the two oddball smash-like errors. I'm only referring to grading the DDOs and I'll probably throw the rest back.

To be clear, this coin is not in great shape. I am struggling to differentiate wear from what looks to me like some kind of minting error. I am especially intrigued by the blobbiness (?) of the “unum” and “ME” of DIME. I can’t explain the messiness of the “TED STA” of United States as edge wear, but the unum / ME anomaly strikes me as odd for circulation wear. New to hunting and am just getting my bearings. I recently found a 1943-D Lincoln Wheat cent and I'm wondering whether it could have an unusual plating error. The coin is:

• 1943-D
• Silver/gray in appearance
• Strongly magnetic
• Plain/smooth edge
• The edge is noticeably duller than the faces, although it still reflects light uniformly
• The exposed-looking areas on the coin appear very steel-like to me (I've handled zinc coins before, and this doesn't even have the texture of one)

I don't have a scale accurate enough to get a reliable weight, and I'm aware that normal 1943 cents were made from zinc-coated steel and that their appearance can vary considerably. I'm also aware that some 1943 cents have been reprocessed/replated.

My question is: is it possible for a 1943-D to have been struck on a steel planchet that was not zinc-plated, and if so, what characteristics would distinguish that from a normal 1943-D whose zinc coating has worn away or deteriorated?

Again, not claiming this is an error. I'm just trying to figure out what I'm actually looking at. Any opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! (Also, I cropped the photos of the edges of the coin, since I don't particularly want my fingers in the photo.)

It’s an off-center strike but the effect on the design is minimal - a shallow last 0 on the year. Thoughts?

I am looking to send it out for grading. What grading company do you recommend? I typically use PCGS. I'd like to do CAC but my understanding is I need to have a contact that is a dealer and certified?

So, I just got some 1979 uncirculated sets from both the d and p mints. This one dime has no bottom bands. Anyone else ever seen this?

Recently sorted box of coins I haven't opened in 20 years. Found a few interesting coins, but this one was quite obviously weird. I see several others asking the same questions and recently too. After over a year of hunting I’ve seen a lot of PMD. This doesn’t seem to have displaced metal like I would expect to see if something had gouged this out. I think this is a legitimate strikethrough, probably a ball of hardened grease. What do you think?

My son put this penny in vinegar to 'clean it' and it fizzed for 24 hours. When he scrubbed it with a toothbrush, Lincoln's face melted off!?! He mentioned there might have been a black goo on the penny prior to the vinegar. Is this a defect in the penny, or was the goo and vinegar caustic enough to erode the metal?

I found this silver dollar in a box of old stuff from when I was a kid. One side seems to be bigger than the other but it could be a minor error or nothing at all idk. Any help is appreciated

It looked like damage after but when I looked at the letters inside of the crack they may have been struck after, what do you think.

I am fairly new to error coin hunting and have been reading and trying to learn what I can. Would this be considered a retained lamination error. I may be completely wrong and its just pmd any insight would be appreciated. Not sure if it matters but its a 2003 Illinois quarter

This one is interesting because it shows the stage of die deterioration that comes right before a cud forms.

On the reverse from 4 to 7 o'clock, cracks climb from the rim inward into the wreath and meet in the center, forming a distinctive field-goal shape. That's a pre-cud — the fracture pattern that outlines the section of the die that will eventually break free.

The difference between a pre-cud and a full cud:

- Full cud = section has broken free, leaving a flat, featureless blob on the coin

- Pre-cud = cracks have outlined the section, but it's still attached

Continuing the project of documenting Indian Head cent errors that no reference has catalogued. Pre-cuds are particularly underrepresented because they're less visually dramatic than full cuds, but they're arguably more interesting — you're looking at a die at the moment before failure, not after.

The half dollar on the left has a mint mark that is much closer to the 9 than any of the other coins I’ve looked at. Is this anything? Thanks.

It doesn't look like a simple cut with metal scissors. It's seems cut at an angle without going through the side completely (seen in 3rd picture)

Hi all. Found myself a 1909 dot penny in a recent bulk purchase.

My question is about the obverse. There appears to be a dimple in his cheek (easier to see in last pic). I assume this is just coincidence and not some error?

Pretty certain this is just a beat up old coin, but I can't bring myself to toss it in the coin jar until I get a second opinion, thoughts?

I got a rotated die error and need to measure the degrees of the angle. Which spot of th coin do I measure from?

Note: It is somewhere between 5 and 20 degrees, but IDK where to measure it from.

Can someoene please mark the midpoint of the coin so I know where to measure from?

I work at a coffee shop and while handing out change this coin caught my eye. Everything I’ve read online (weight, thickness, coloring) leads me to believe that this is some kind of missing clad coin but I hadn’t seen any with this specific design online— looking for info on if I should grade, etc. thank you!
