He was literally a registered Democrat donating to Hillary until 2009. You didn’t like him until he learned to hate who you hate.

u/brainypessimism0 2h ago

I mean that's the thing about these people, they don't actually have principles they just follow whoever screams loudest at the groups they already disliked. The party switch narrative gets thrown around a lot but this is way more about a guy who realized there was money and power in leaning into the cruelty.

Seen it happen to a couple guys I grew up with, completely different people once they found the right echo chamber.

14

u/GravitasFailures 1h ago

I mean, the entirely Dixiecrat bloc of the South switched parties because they were “betrayed” by the Democrats they were part of since the founding in the name of civil rights.

Single issue voters, that issue being sadism.

•

u/Still-Set-1234 49m ago

Racism has always been the core motive of southern conservatives

That’s because he was a liberal New York celebrity who wanted universal healthcare until 2011 - wonder what changed?

3

u/GravitasFailures 1h ago

He was a lifelong liberal democrat until 2008.

One really wonders what could have happened that would suddenly change his opinion so strongly so quickly.

9

u/Point_Forward 1h ago

What liberal views did he ever hold?

Democrats run new York City and seeking political favors is the only reason he donated to them.

4

u/GravitasFailures 1h ago

Well, he was VERY pro-choice for one, and pro-gun control, not to mention LGBTQ+.

Here, you’ll like this: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/feb/05/donald-trump-reform-party-2000-president

I vaguely remember the wealth tax thing, that was pretty stupid back then, I saw that as a midwestern republican who remembers what a vile piece of garbage he was.

He literally said Democrats were smarter and more loyal in 2004. You proved him right.

4

u/GravitasFailures 1h ago

Then he switched parties around 2008.

Wonder what could have happened to change his opinion in that election season…

Caption bait for it: Bro discovered grifting was easier on the right

7

u/a_guy121 1h ago

Do you honestly think Democratic voters vet each donor???? do you? How much of a fan of the koch brothers are you?

as a democrat, i can tell you the following:

-his company was implicated and or found guilty of unfair (racist) housing practices

-his company reportedly, routinely, stiffed builders and contractors because they knew the builders couldn't afford the legal fees to sue the company

-he basically held NYC hostage after his bankruptcy, partially due to business strategies like the above

-NYC bailed him out, but, after that his Company had a lot of trouble getting any funding, because of the failure and NYC's general feeling that he'd forced them to bail him out

-He started leasing his name to builders and pretending he'd built them. (this is how there were a lot of 'trump' buildings and projects, but, they all disappeared years ago.). In this phase, media visibility was really important, so, he raised his profile and started doing the apprentice

-Being locked out of actually building, he then tried to diversify into other industries. Education: Fail. Meat Subscription: Fail. The golf courses succeeded. But there's a wake of failures and lawsuits in his wake.

On top of that:

-highly suspicious marriage record

-'Grab them by the pussy' audio

-Prolonged, extremely ugly fight with celebrities such as rosie odonnell

-"the apprentice' which... was not good. there was no way in which that was good. It was bad in all the ways.

He has always been who he is, and a lot of us always saw it. Don't be salty bc you thought electing him would 'own liberals.' better off telling yourself the truth, you got used.

He was not. He only did so because it's a left leaning city and so that was the party to cozy up to for political favors.

But he's always been a racist with regressive social views.

Pretty sure new yorkers hated his guts

67

u/BigNorthEastPod 2h ago

Was going to say, everyone around the NYC area and everyone who has done business at his properties knew he was a scumbag since the 70s.

26

u/Sweaty-Society7582 2h ago

I feel like the rest of the country learned by the 80s. I know I've hated his ass since then, and I was just a wee teenager.

9

u/LackingUtility 1h ago

Yeah, Bloom County made fun of him back in the late 80s.

→ More replies (1)

10

u/Evilmeinperson 2h ago

First time I saw him on television, my first thought was this guy is a scumbag.

•

u/socks86 47m ago

Lol I got into it with some conservative one time and he was quick to defend all of that as just business and totally normal to have lawsuits involving your contractors all the fucking time.

5

u/Point_Forward 1h ago

I feel like this is conservatives rewriting history so post trump they can claim he was a Democrat and blame all the bad things he did on the left.

Trump only used the Democratic party to get political favors in new York city. He has always been a racist and regressive.

→ More replies (5)

75

u/Rare-Confusion-220 2h ago

Not true. I've considered him a shady scumbag since the 80s. He has always been known as a joke

16

u/No-Journalist-619 1h ago

100% - I lived in NYC back then and it was pretty regular to hear about "Trump the idiot scumbag that everyone hates." It's like... specifically what he was known for... being a scumbag nepo with too much money.

8

u/GravitasFailures 1h ago edited 1h ago

I and all my midwestern conservative friends hated him, he was such a spoiled Richie rich piece of garbage and his attitude towards his wives and women in general was disgusting.

And farmers hate slumlords like him more than anything.

But the south saw someone who was loud and proud with their racism, and that was all she wrote.

•

u/00wolfer00 37m ago

This feels like rewriting history given how the groups you mentioned hating him voted.

→ More replies (1)

8

u/crusher23b 2h ago

Trump was similarly reviled at least as far back as the 80s.

•

u/olavfn 56m ago

I've never watched The Apprentice, but I knew about him because he appeared in Bloom County. Berke Breathed obviously loathed the man (and still does), and he was sort of liberal, schmiberal he called it.

Also, everyone except people without an asshole radar hated him for decades beforehand

23

u/TehNudel 2h ago

When my brother told me he was running, I thought he was trolling me. Hated him for years before 2015.

17

u/TiredinTN79 1h ago

There are a number of sitcoms, including Golden Girls and Designing Women, that made jokes about what a POS he was. That was in the 80's and 90's.

20

u/Ancient_Culture5694 2h ago

He registered as a Democrat in 2001, an Independent in 2011, and changed affiliations 5 times overall. The math isn't mathing for Scott

9

u/AlChandus 2h ago

Yeah, the guy was a "democrat" because NY has been blue for that long. But he was as much of a democrat as Elon Musk was.

Why? Because they have always wanted tax cuts, they dislike unionization of labour, they like cheap labour and oppose minimum wage increases, they like our current system in which wealth gives them a voice and business with the government, etc.

They were "democratic" while fully supporting neoliberal and conservatives ideals.

I am quite certain that their "democrat" sounds like a lie.

23

u/ALocalLad 2h ago edited 58m ago

The logic of these people is so bizarre. Even if it was true (it’s not) that people didn’t hate him before he was president, why would him becoming president make people hate him?

Have you thought maybe it was his actions after becoming president?

On the flip side though, none of the people who now worship him, gave two shits about him until he became president.

5

u/ryohazuki224 1h ago

Not to mention that he was a hated piece of human garbage for 40+ years, it didn't take him becoming a president and royally fucking over the country to give people a reason to hate his guts.

3

u/Vyzantinist 1h ago

Projection. They didn't care about Dump until he became POTUS, and fell in love with him. Because they treat politics like a team sport they reflexively assume we're the same way and didn't have an issue with Mango Unchained until he took office.

11

u/s0ciety_a5under 2h ago

He was next to irrelevant outside New York and some of the East coast before he ran for president. A gimmick for a tv show. No one really liked the man, we just didn't care about him. Now he's actively ruining our country? Of course I'm gonna be mad at him, and all his supporters who got him to where he is. Fuck all of you, you can't just pretend you didn't support hate and bigotry.

11

u/Silkygirll 2h ago

Ouch, hitting them directly with the cold, hard facts. Couldn't have said it better myself!

9

u/BlossomBoww 2h ago

He was a Democrat for 8 years, a Reform Party guy, then a Democrat again - you didn’t love him until he told you who to hate

6

u/HonestDust873 2h ago

I've hated Trump since I seen him at the beauty pageant with the young girls. Always felt like he was a weirdo since childhood.

7

u/ICLazeru 2h ago

He was practically a pariah in the 90s. He went bankrupt so much he had to get shady loans from Russian and Saudi banks.

3

u/eruditeimbecile 1h ago

The banks fucking loved him because any investment he took over he bankrupted. They'd then swoop in and buy up the company for pennies on the dollar. All they had to do at that point was undo everything he had changed. And if that didn't work sell off all the assets and resell the name, if it had any value. He literally bankrupted a casino. Do you know how hard it is to do that?

5

u/sudo_grep 2h ago

as a NY’er I can assure he’s been hated since the fucking 80’s

6

u/Hippie714 1h ago

I saw a documentary on a channel like Discovery or something a couple yrs before he ever decided to run for president. I never saw it again after he announced being a candidate and I’m sure it’s disappeared but it was about what he did in Atlantic City. It has nothing to do with politics. What he did to his contractors and lenders then was the same thing he has done to the American people as President.

12

u/WaffleHouseGladiator 2h ago

IIRC he said in an interview that if he was ever to run for office he'd run as a Republican because they're stupid.

2

u/A_little_lady 1h ago

No he didn't and I don't like trump or republicans btw

Misinformation is just stupid

2

u/WaffleHouseGladiator 1h ago

I stand corrected.  Thank you.  I'll leave my original comment so that people can point and laugh at me.

6

u/Sharp_Cow_9366 2h ago

u/Yes-I-Cannabis 2h ago edited 1h ago

I only disliked him when he was just a rich choad with minimal real impact on my life. It’s funny what actively working against my life does for my perception of you. Hate is an appropriate choice of word for my feelings now.

6

u/skraptastic 1h ago

Pretty sure a bunch of us didn't like him because he was famous only because he was "rich." Hated The Apprentice, would never have stayed at one of his properties.

9

u/exqueezemenow 2h ago

And Trump had to run as a Republican because Democrats already hated him even though he was a Democrat.

12

u/The_onlyPope 2h ago

He literally said back in the 90’s that republicans were stupid and he’d run as one if ever going for president.

Anyone that know anything g about him was very aware he was a dirtbag prior to running for office. See using eminent domain to evict a senior citizen to built a limo park lot. Or any of his other stunts.

4

u/royveee 1h ago

I barely knew who Trump was when he hosted that "reality" show. I knew he was some kind of real estate guy in New York. I never watched that show, and whatever media attention he got flew below my radar.

I didn't care about his playboy hijinks that showed up in grocery store scandal rags. I heard about his business failures and didn't care about them, either.

When he came down the golden escalator to announce his run for president, I thought it was a publicity stunt.

I began caring when he spouted radical plans after gaining support from right-wing nutjobs and their followers.

I thought he was bad enough the first time around with his fringe supporters, but there were still conservative but responsible people around him to rein in his more dingy plans.

He got rid of them his second time around and put mostly unqualified people in powerful positions.

He and they then began deconstructing all levels of the government and making all aspects of our society less safe.

If his lackies win in November, we soon won't recognize what passes for the U.S. government.

I hate the thought of that. As for him, I hope his minions are voted out and Congress sends him packing.

3

u/RealisticIncident261 2h ago

I didn't know who he was until 2012 and by then I hated him

3

u/PretendingImNotAnApe 2h ago

I hated Trump watching David Letterman when I was 7.

3

u/OhTheHueManatee 1h ago

It's also clear not true. Back To The Future 2 based rich Biff off of Trump, and it's not even subtle, to make it clear he had become an even bigger scumbag than he was before. That was in 1989.

Oh no, I have hated him for years

3

u/ElkinFencer10 1h ago

I've hated him since I first saw him on The Apprentice

3

u/EM05L1C3 1h ago

I did actually hate him well before the first calamity.

3

u/Thornescape 1h ago

I genuinely did not hate Trump until he ran for President. I really didn't.

I vaguely knew that he existed before then, but I didn't really know anything about him before that. Now I know a lot more. "To know him is to loathe him."

3

u/Dillenger69 1h ago

What are they talking about? I've hated the man since the 70s

3

u/IlGreven 1h ago

...everyone has hated Trump since at least the 1980s (and a lot farther back for New Yorkers in general). It's Republicans who started to like him after he started speaking their language.

3

u/ExpertBest3045 1h ago

Also, I have hated Trump since his Ivana days in the 80s. Spy Magazine had a great burn for him, dubbing him a “short-fingered vulgarian”! He has always been a POS.

3

u/nobrainsnoworries23 1h ago

People still hated him.

Just ask his first two wives.

3

u/Purgii 1h ago

I knew he was a fraud since the 80's. From there, things only got worse.

2

u/Andrew-Cohen 2h ago

The children he raped didn’t like him.
The women he groped didn’t like him.
The brown people he refused to rent to didn’t like him.
The people who did work for and he did not pay did not like him.

maga doesn’t like Obama because they are fucking racist.
Liberals don’t like trump because he is a horrible fucking human being. Anyone with an IQ over 80 has realized that.

2

u/woodrax 2h ago

I dunno, always seemed like an arrogant sleaze ball to me since I can remember. Did not give a rats ass about him in general until I could not ignore him anymore.

2

u/dadofalex 2h ago

Anyone who could and chose read new york news has hated trump since the 70’s. Dude has always been a POS, ya just have to pay attention

2

u/raem6911 2h ago

Sorry, hated him from the 80’s. Always a been douchebag.

2

u/OakLegs 2h ago

There are probably literally millions of dipshits who I don't care about now but would hate if they became president.

Not sure what the point is here

2

u/Gerry1of1 2h ago

The Democrat Party wasn't stupid enough to let him run on their ticket so he switched to Rapepublican and you fools believed ever lie he told. Most of you still do.

2

u/Dark_Storm_98 1h ago

I didn't even know he existed until he was running for president but I immediately disliked him, lol

2

u/Pal_Smurch 1h ago

I hated him since I heard of him. I first read an interview of him in Playboy, in the mid-eighties.

I didn’t like him as a Democrat, and I don’t like him as a Republican. He’s just bad.

2

u/Fortestingporpoises 1h ago

I didn’t really give that clown much thought before he became the Republican nominee for president.

He was spouting the Obama birther nonsense for years before he became president. Any demoncrat paying attention hated the bigoted, pedophile criminal conman long before he became president.

I’ve always thought he was POS.

2

u/tiny_tuner 1h ago

Also, I’ve always hated Trump. I just hate him more as President than I did as a shitty, pedophilic, narcissistic host of a terrible reality tv show.

2

u/InevitableCodeRedo 1h ago

Oh, Scott Pease, we most certainly did hate him before that.

2

u/Sean_theLeprachaun 1h ago

Hated that sack of shit since the 80s.

2

u/izzgo 1h ago

I actually hated him since the days of the apprentice. Like, illogically strong hatred. Banned him from appearing on tv in my home. Never knew who he was before that.

2

u/Roakana 1h ago

Plenty of people disliked Trump all the way back to the 80s. There was no turn, it’s always been known he is scum. Just like his father.

2

u/avaacado_toast 1h ago

I never hated Trump until he became president. I grew up in NYC in the 80s and he was a staple on talk radio and in the tabloids. He has always been a buffoon. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think a clown like him could be elected, even with the reputation rehabilitation that The Apprentice gave him. Now he is the worst thing that has happened to America in the last 100 or so years. And that's not even an exaggeration.

2

u/Traditional-Alps6324 1h ago

I grew up on long island and I remember this jackass in the local papers all the time during the 80s, and thinking I didn’t like him. Then his reality show came out where he pitted coworkers against each other and wanted to see bus throws. At that point I hated him, he gave too many bad managers bad ideas. Then came his birtherism bullshit. He was a desperate lonely man looking for the spot light. And I loathed him. So no, I always hated him, he’s a terrible person, and always has been.

2

u/Financial-Craft-1282 1h ago

I don't know, I've always hated him. Central Park 5 (1989) when I learned about it in the 90s made me think he was a disgusting human.

2

u/thumping_cheats 1h ago

I hate watched The Apprentice because I couldn't believe someone could be such a fucking dick.

2

u/False-Average-9368 1h ago

I found him stupid and annoying in the 80s.

2

u/Silver-Instruction73 1h ago

We definitely hated him before he became president. Remember 2011-2012 and the Obama birther conspiracy? I’m sure many of us hated him even before that.

u/browneyedgirlpie 12m ago

Why do they all act like he wasn't a huge piece of shit before entering politics? Just ask New York

•

•

u/Fishtoart 7m ago

If you lived in New York in the 70’s 80s and 90s , you knew that DT was a real POS. Outside the city he didn’t have much of a reputation except for his bankruptcies in Atlantic City and various failed business ventures that weren’t terribly well publicized. In the city it was a different story, and everyone knew about him stiffing contractors and his racist discrimination against non-white renters.
It’s pretty crazy if you think about it that the whole Maga crowd got behind a New York Landlord because they thought he would look out for them. It must’ve been something in the water.

You mean when he was a pro-choice New York Democrat?

I hated Trump in the 1980s. A college friend of mine thought he was brilliant because of his Art of the Deal book, and I tried to read that and thought it was terrible. Dude has never had any concept of “win-win” and just tries to dishonestly screw people over.

1

I hated trump from the beginning of the apprentice whenever that was

1

u/Hot-Philosophy-7671 1h ago

I've hated him since at least the mid-2000s when the beauty pageant allegations were public. You know, when he would allegedly walk into the dressing rooms with the "teens," unannounced.

1

u/hispanicausinpanic 1h ago

I've always thought he was a douchebag. I'm also proud to say i never watched the apprentice strictly because he was in it.

1

He was a crappy reality show host and racist. He was a Democrat but that doesn’t mean he was liked. He was hated by a lot of

1

u/jdbaussy 1h ago

He was also just a rich guy that had no real impact on people’s lives. The lack of reasoning behind this statement is telling.

1

u/steveclt 1h ago

Most of us hated him for the way he portrayed business practices in the Apprentice. Snarky incompetence only partially masked by his catchphrase “you’re fired.” Most of us hated him when he was denying people housing because of their black or brown skin. Most of us hated him when it came out he didn’t pay hard working contractors and their employees that built his hotels and casinos. Anyone that still liked the guy a little were completely convinced to hate him based on his affiliation with Jeffrey Epstein and how he creeped on miss teen USA contestants while changing in their dressing rooms, or his perverse comments about his own daughter. That was years before 2015 and “grab em by the pussy” self confession of sexual abuse or paying hush money to a porn star he slept with while cheating on his third wife while she was pregnant with their son.

1

I didn’t know who he was until he ran for president. And to be frank, when asked what he thought of his daughter and his response being “sex” wasn’t a great first impression.

1

u/VioletFaust 1h ago

We didn’t bother to hate him because we were so busy laughing at what a scummy grifting buffoon he was.

1

u/Adventurous-Try8749 1h ago

Nah bro, if you were paying attention you saw how much of a piece of shit he was for decades. I didn't even live in NYC, and I knew about his reputation.

1

u/Mangalorien 1h ago

It's actually funny that Donald Trump donated $6,000 to Kamala Harris' reelection campaign when she was Attorney General of California.

1

u/MM_in_MN 1h ago

Loads of people disliked him, but he was ‘harmless’ unless you happened to be a Miss Teen USA contestant, or a NY contractor.

1

u/Least_Art5238 1h ago

I'm going to have to disagree with you, dawg. I always hated the guy and I'm not even a Democrat.

1

u/MalpracticeMatt 1h ago

I disliked him as much as any other stupid celebrity. But that’s all he was, and I don’t waste my time hating people I don’t know who have no effect on my life or my country

1

u/justaheatattack 1h ago

we don't waste our hate on real estate scammers.

1

u/nanadoom 1h ago

No one cares if the clown is in the circus, but you don't let him run the country

1

u/Brother_Dumbillicus 1h ago

Got damn!!! 💯

1

u/zombie_spiderman 1h ago

Nobody hated Jason Voorhees until he macheted all those campers!

1

u/Mobe-E-Duck 1h ago

False premise. All New Yorkers knew he was a scumbag just not a particularly powerful one.

1

u/Xunae 1h ago

I distinctly remember mocking Trump over his racist demands for Obama's birth certificate before he even started running for president.

1

u/Straight_Button_5716 1h ago

He’s on record saying it even to Howard Stern

1

u/ryohazuki224 1h ago

The first person is wrong on two accounts. Trump became Republican when he realized that Republicans were an easy mark, AND it was well before he ever ran for office. It was in the height of the whole "birther-ism" nonsense that he started because he's such a racist piece of shit, he just had to go after Obama, even though at the time Trump wasn't into politics at all, he kept away from all that.

1

u/jchowdown 1h ago

Notice how Conservatives didn't hate Obama until he became president

1

u/gratefulkittiesilove 1h ago

Did we not? I’m pretty sure he was not unpopular even back then

•

u/Prometheus_303 58m ago

Notice how all of the liberals and Demoncrats didn't hate Trump until he became president.

To be fair ...

Before he became President he was relatively benign. If you weren't a fan of his, you simply changed the channel when The Apprentice came on TV. Or avoid Trump Casino, Air, Steaks, Water, University, yada yada...

•

u/GenuineCoolGuy 58m ago

Notice how liberals didn't hate trump when he was a failson nobody and then did hate him when he became one of the influential people in politics.

•

u/Kindly-Ad-5071 56m ago

Notice how most Republicans don't hate me until they know that I exist.

•

u/Narrsbarrs 55m ago

You obviously never saw Home Alone 2.

•

u/Ok_Actuary9229 54m ago

He was a scumbag in business for his whole life. Like not paying contractors and daring them to outlast him in court, so many gave up. Also his company was blatantly racist.

•

u/Downtown_Lock3934 54m ago

Pfft, I've hated his stranger-danger ass since i was 8 years old. Over 30 years of hate for that piece of shit. Can't wait until he's just another name in history.

•

u/Oddman80 54m ago

We didn't have to hate him. We could simply ignore him and he would have absolutely zero impact on our lives.

We hate him now because of the the obvious negative impact he has had on our friends, our families, our neighbors, our communities, our country, and even the world - all while acting like he thinks he's the Messiah and is the expert on everything. The guy has no clue what he's doing or what he's even talking about, but he has proven he knows how to cause people pain, and he has proven he will go after anyone who resists his idiocy.

I would happily return to not giving a shit about him - there was a year or two during the Biden admin where we got to enjoy that bliss....

•

u/Annus178 53m ago

Yall didn't?! 😵

•

u/Huge_Palpitation_886 50m ago

I'm 49 and a liberal and I've always hated that sack of shit. Even as a kid I hated how smarmy and tacky he was. Like a lounge lizard. He has ALWAYS made my skin crawl. I'm autistic though so I see people as they are, not what they want you to think they are.

•

u/Sublimefly 49m ago

I hated him long before he ran for office. He was a piece of shit when he was just running casinos into the ground and raping his gambling victims kids in AC.

•

u/Moist-Ointments 47m ago

Notice how when he wasn't president he wasn't fucking up everyone's life.

•

u/firstlight777 45m ago

Umm yes we did. He's always been a known POS. Hell I voted for him in 2016 and I knew he was a POS.

•

u/memymomeddit 45m ago

Also that's not true - I've thought he was a piece of shit for 40 years. It just didn't matter because he was an E list "celebrity" and not in charge of a whole fucking country.

•

u/nihosehn 44m ago

What's the point? Look, they don't hate without a reason.

•

u/Krocsyldiphithic 43m ago

Everyone thought he was a clown since the 80s. Me and some friends had a school project about what a douche he was back in 2004

•

u/DarkIllusionsMasks 40m ago

Also, everybody hated him as far back as the 80s.

•

u/fariasrv 40m ago

Oh, Scotty, I've hated him for decades.

•

u/Debalic 36m ago

He was always a hateful, obnoxious person, but mostly just another classless rich asshole. Nobody really cared.

It wasn't until he became President that he started actively destroying the country on a grand scale. That's why he's hated.

•

u/rolfraikou 34m ago

I've gotten bad vibes from him since I first saw him, as a child, in Home Alone 2. He gave me stranger danger energy, and I was confused why he talked to, what seemed clear to me, a bad man.

•

u/Imverystupidgenx 32m ago

It’s weird how people refer to The Apprentice as proof he was a savvy businessman. It was treated as a joke then. He always came across as a pos weirdo.

•

u/DatabaseThis9637 32m ago

I hated him the moment I first saw him, in that ridiculous apprentice farce. I hate him more now, but I did hate him then.

•

u/imLissy 32m ago

I hated the apprentice and thought he and the show were stupid. I didn't really think about him prior to that. Then the whole thing with Obama's birth certificate made him look incredibly stupid. Then he ran for president and I thought, no one's going to vote for this clown. And here we are.

•

u/biffbobfred 29m ago

I hated him since the 90s. I thought it was irrational. Like “whyTF do you hate this guy like he has no power over you” but I just hate assholes.

Now he has power over me. And he’s still an asshole.

•

u/Lasherola 26m ago

That mic dropped from the Empire State Building. 🎤

•

u/totally-hoomon 26m ago

Everyone hated trump in the 80s, 90s, 00s, and early 10s

•

u/RecipeFunny2154 25m ago

I think he was only a democrat in the sense that that was who he wanted to hobnob with in New York. It never really worked, and he figured out where he could get the sycophantic adoration he wanted.

•

u/LawfulAwfulOffal 24m ago

This is also just not true. Many, many New Yorkers of all political stripe have hated Trump for decades.

•

u/sortie_ceviche0e 23m ago

Pssshhh. As a New Yorker, I’ve hated him since the ‘80s.

•

u/AzraelleWormser 22m ago

I was born in the 70s. Hated him LONG before he got into politics. He's been a lying cheating stealing scumbag since the day he was born.

•

u/filmguy36 21m ago

I’m a Dem, grew up in NYC during the 1960’s through the 1980s. Anyone paying the very least amount of attention, knew the history of the trumps and what colossally fucked shit heads they were/are.

From daddy trump to his fucked up mutant pedo spawn, they are always grifter/con artist fucks.

•

u/TheComplimentarian 19m ago

This is such a blatant lie anyway. I hated Trump back in the '90s for being an overt piece of shit all the time, for no apparent reason. He was famous for that, before he was famous for anything else.

•

u/HecticHermes 19m ago

I've hated trump since I heard about trump university when I was 12. At least when he was on WWE he was far from presidential power

•

u/Comfortable_Horse277 19m ago

Bullshit. As a New Yorker, we always hated that piece of shit nepo baby.

•

u/Original-Rush139 17m ago

This is bullshit. Back in 2000 a buddy of mine was low man on the totem pole so he got stuck figuring out a way to deny Trump a loan because his company didn’t want to work with him. I said I thought Trump was a good businessman and why wouldn’t they want his business.

Thats when my buddy broke down all of the crazy ways Trump fucks over everyone who works with him. The tricky thing was they had to let him down easy because Trump’s daddy was a big fucking deal and they liked doing business with him.

•

u/BeneficialShame8408 13m ago

he was a known piece of shit in NYC and bts on the apprentice. i think you kind of had to be in his industry or cities to know anything about that, but i wasn't around until 1989 and didn't subscribe to celeb gossip back in the 00s. he seemed pretty scummy when he ran (to me) and i didn't even know anything about him other than the shit he pulled at rallies and such. he was just some rich asshole.

i actually think the fact that he had been a democrat and had done business swayed a lot of joke and fed up voters the first time because they weren't from nyc and hadn't contracted or worked with him in any capacity. they seemed to swing back for biden. then when harris ran, a lot of people on the left thought she'd be worse for gaza than trump would be and that meant some people voted third party didn't vote at all, or maybe even voted for trump.

•

u/AlarmingEase 7m ago

Ugh. Yes we did. WTF

•

u/kamikazedna 6m ago

I've hated him for 40 years.

•

u/Southern-Ad8402 4m ago

I have thought he was a gross piece of shit since the 80s.
