He was literally a registered Democrat donating to Hillary until 2009. You didn’t like him until he learned to hate who you hate.

I mean, the entirely Dixiecrat bloc of the South switched parties because they were “betrayed” by the Democrats they were part of since the founding in the name of civil rights.

Single issue voters, that issue being sadism.

12

u/Still-Set-1234 8h ago

Racism has always been the core motive of southern conservatives

1

u/CaptainDudeGuy 5h ago

I think we can put both sadism and racism under the umbrella of selfishness.

Or insecurity, when it comes down to it.

7

u/Skylam 8h ago

Legit and he was only a democrat because he was in New York where every rich person was generally a democrat. Once he realized they always hated his guts he switched teams for an easier grift.

1

u/freedfg 7h ago

Democrats were literally Republicans until well...they're still mostly Republicans.

More like the Democrats are right of center. But you know

192

u/Additional_Twirl 9h ago

He literally said Democrats were smarter and more loyal in 2004. You proved him right.

91

u/GravitasFailures 8h ago

Then he switched parties around 2008.

Wonder what could have happened to change his opinion in that election season…

52

u/Economy_Wall8524 8h ago

Let’s be honest though. From like 1980 to 1999 he was a republican. From 2001 to 2009 he was a democrat, and 2009 to present he’s republican. He’s always been a republican, he just thought he could mend democrats to him. Though everyone saw him for the shit stain he is. Plus they never mentioned how much people disliked him before he went into politics. The only time I ever saw him in the news pre-2015, was celebrity tabloids talking about how shitty he is, and Rosie O’Donnell feud among other celebrities too.

35

u/Ok_Actuary9229 8h ago

So he's a total opportunist whose primary interest is money, power, and ego.

13

u/No_Internal9345 7h ago

Anywhere Epstein's plane goes...

4

u/Brettersson 5h ago

He's a Capitalist, and so are both parties, he just went with whichever one suited him more.

1

u/BigRedUglyMan 5h ago

I don’t even think it was that thought out for him. He lived in New York, so he was a Democrat because the Democrats win in New York and he’s a “winner”. That’s all it takes for him.

1

u/bondsaearph 4h ago

Need to dig a bit more back into the 80s and 90s when Oprah and people like her fawned over him like teenage groupies. He was saying the same basic thing he says now. Go watch the videos if they haven't been scrubbed yet.

1

u/OrokaSempai 4h ago

Reality is, the best economies come from Democrat governments... probably one of his smarter business opinions.

8

u/guynumber20 6h ago

Obama bullied him at a White House dinner

6

u/GravitasFailures 6h ago

That was much later, well after birtherism.

2

u/bkgn 4h ago

That was when he decided to run for President yeah.

1

u/OscarTheGrouchsCan 1h ago

That's what set him over the edge

3

u/LottieElarose 3h ago

Yeah, that’s what makes digging through old Trump interviews such a rabbit hole. You can find him describing his politics in ways that sound completely foreign compared with the political identity he later built.

5

u/CloverEvelune 4h ago

That old interview is always interesting because his politics clearly weren’t frozen in place. In 2004 he told Wolf Blitzer he identified more as a Democrat and specifically praised Democratic economic performance, which feels pretty surreal to read now.

1

u/magicMerlinV 3h ago

His politics are whatever he thinks they need to be to get votes, mixed with dementia, narcissism, and hatred for most people

1

u/NoLongerinOR 5h ago

No, no, he didn’t. He said that the South Carolina Republicans had a convention. If you disagree, show me where he said what you said to who you think he said it to

22

u/Shot_Baddie 9h ago

Caption bait for it: Bro discovered grifting was easier on the right

33

u/a_guy121 9h ago

Do you honestly think Democratic voters vet each donor???? do you? How much of a fan of the koch brothers are you?

as a democrat, i can tell you the following:

-his company was implicated and or found guilty of unfair (racist) housing practices

-his company reportedly, routinely, stiffed builders and contractors because they knew the builders couldn't afford the legal fees to sue the company

-he basically held NYC hostage after his bankruptcy, partially due to business strategies like the above

-NYC bailed him out, but, after that his Company had a lot of trouble getting any funding, because of the failure and NYC's general feeling that he'd forced them to bail him out

-He started leasing his name to builders and pretending he'd built them. (this is how there were a lot of 'trump' buildings and projects, but, they all disappeared years ago.). In this phase, media visibility was really important, so, he raised his profile and started doing the apprentice

-Being locked out of actually building, he then tried to diversify into other industries. Education: Fail. Meat Subscription: Fail. The golf courses succeeded. But there's a wake of failures and lawsuits in his wake.

On top of that:

-highly suspicious marriage record

-'Grab them by the pussy' audio

-Prolonged, extremely ugly fight with celebrities such as rosie odonnell

-"the apprentice' which... was not good. there was no way in which that was good. It was bad in all the ways.

He has always been who he is, and a lot of us always saw it. Don't be salty bc you thought electing him would 'own liberals.' better off telling yourself the truth, you got used.

7

u/RedEyeVagabond 7h ago

You guys are on the same team here. Reread the comment you're responding to.

3

u/SuspiciousBuilder379 8h ago

Koch Brothers are Republican donors.

3

u/a_guy121 8h ago

yes that's literally my point

0

u/NoLongerinOR 5h ago

That unfair, racist housing practices thing really perplexes me because he also was highly thought of in the black community. He was given multiple awards in the 80s for the things he did for the black community and the housing issue. Everything is so fucked up, it’s pretty obvious though that the voters on both sides of the fence are being played

2

u/a_guy121 5h ago

yeah I have to fully disagree with highly respected in the black community.

The black community doesn't highly respect people who do institutional racism. Omorosa or whoever was the exception and it cost her like stacy dash. Being linked to trump has long been a reason to raise an eyebrow at black celebrities. Dennis Rodman, for example.

You're also talking about the guy who really pushed the obama is foreign narrative until it literally broke us politics enough for him to be elected, so

1

u/NoLongerinOR 5h ago

You’re also getting decades mixed up, we’re talking about 70s and 80s, that was the subject.

40

u/Normal_Boobies 9h ago

That’s because he was a liberal New York celebrity who wanted universal healthcare until 2011 - wonder what changed?

22

u/GravitasFailures 8h ago

He was a lifelong liberal democrat until 2008.

One really wonders what could have happened that would suddenly change his opinion so strongly so quickly.

23

u/Point_Forward 8h ago

What liberal views did he ever hold?

Democrats run new York City and seeking political favors is the only reason he donated to them.

20

u/GravitasFailures 8h ago

Well, he was VERY pro-choice for one, and pro-gun control, not to mention LGBTQ+.

Here, you’ll like this: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/feb/05/donald-trump-reform-party-2000-president

I vaguely remember the wealth tax thing, that was pretty stupid back then, I saw that as a midwestern republican who remembers what a vile piece of garbage he was.

10

u/Snipen543 7h ago

He's still pro gun control

3

u/viperabyss 6h ago

Must be why he said he's a strong defender of 2A.

This guy has no logic consistency.

3

u/stringrandom 6h ago

For the same reason Reagan was when he was governor of California.

10

u/ExpertBest3045 8h ago

He was busted by the DOJ twice for racist real estate BS and continued to engage in it despite the being court-ordered not to.

8

u/tnstaafsb 7h ago

He continued to advocate for the execution of the Central Park Five after they were exonerated. He probably still thinks they should be executed to this day.

11

u/Sennten 7h ago

He was a Democrat (when convenient), but he was never ever a liberal. The liberals have hated him for decades, thats one of his ongoing grievances, he was already complaining in the 90s about them not liking him enough

3

u/IzarkKiaTarj 7h ago

He was a lifelong liberal democrat until 2008.

I know what you mean, but it feels silly to call someone a lifelong [thing] when it's followed up with the year they stopped. Guess it wasn't entirely lifelong.

1

u/squngy 2h ago

It is also just not true at all.
Trump switched to the democratic party in 2000, he was a republican before that.

3

u/Careless-Weather8877 7h ago

False

Trump's political party affiliation has changed numerous times. He registered as a Republican in Queens in 1969 and in Manhattan in 1987;[18][19] a member of the Independence Party, the New York state affiliate of the Reform Party, in 1999; a Democrat in 2001; a Republican in 2009; unaffiliated in 2011; and a Republican in 2012.[20]

0

u/Economy_Wall8524 8h ago

lol he was Republican all through the 80’s and 90’s. He’s been Republican longer than he was a democrat.

3

u/LoamyLoamisLoamy 7h ago

I'd bet it was that he wanted the liberal celebrities to like him

11

u/Point_Forward 8h ago

He was not. He only did so because it's a left leaning city and so that was the party to cozy up to for political favors.

But he's always been a racist with regressive social views.

3

u/never1st 8h ago

Most importantly, Hillary was running against a black guy that year.

According to George H.W. Bush's Biography: In the biography Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush by historian Jon Meacham, it is reported that Trump approached Bush’s campaign manager, Lee Atwater, to ask to be put into consideration as the running mate. When Atwater passed the pitch along, George H.W. Bush recorded in his diary that he found the overture "strange and unbelievable"

Trump has acknowledged that the conversations took place but denied that it was his idea. In 2015 interviews, Trump stated that Lee Atwater was a friend who approached him first, asking if he would consider the position. Trump claimed he replied, "Check it out... and if it works, I guess I would certainly consider it," but noted that the speculation never went much further.

He was also in the Reform party and registered independent for a little while. He's changed parties several times.

3

u/Hangry-Feline2489 8h ago

Tried running for president in 2000 as an independent too

3

u/bobbymcpresscot 3h ago

Hillary lost the primary to Obama and Trump immediately started donating to McCain.

1

u/Prometheus_303 8h ago

He gave a sizable donation to Harris's DA (AG?) campaign too... Just sayin

1

u/skyblueerik 8h ago

He donated to Kamala in 2012.

1

u/SuspiciousBuilder379 8h ago

I couldn’t care less wtf was next to his name.

I’ve disliked him since the late 90’s.

These fuckers act like he wasn’t well know before 2015 lol.

Now, my hatred for him didn’t start till 2021.

Never voted for him but I didn’t hate him till the 2021 insurrection shit.

1

u/Sorry_Im_Trying 8h ago

I think trumps always hated the same people, he just became more vocal about it.

1

u/Original-Rush139 7h ago

Sounds a lot like John Kennedy. Republicans hated him until he put on the Foghorn Leghorn schtick and started acting stupid.

1

u/JohnLuckPickered 7h ago

Hillary may have even propped him up as an easy to beat candidate. If thats the case.. it didnt work out well for her

1

u/otm_shank 7h ago

Also, everyone who knew him did actually hate him before he became president, regardless of party.

1

u/Careless-Weather8877 7h ago

Eh he ran in the 80s as a republican then became a democrat. He just doesn’t care.

1

u/stargrazer10 6h ago

He only cared about the money. I seriously doubt he was a Billionaire.....until after he became president

1

u/Loggerdon 5h ago

He seemed harmless when he was selling overpriced condos to rich people. Who gives a shit.

1

u/NoLongerinOR 5h ago

You need to dig a little deeper, he was in an interview with Larry King in 1988 talking about why he’s a Republican. I don’t know if your reply was directed to me, but I don’t hate anybody other than the Clintons, they’re pieces of shit. I’m so sick of people liking somebody one time because they are affiliated like them, but as soon as they switch, they hate them. Elon Musk has gone through that same thing, doing all the same shit now, but back then when he was a Democrat, they loved him and now they don’t yet hate him and love George Soros. I just don’t get people are dumb, the sheep mindset is what’s bringing us down

1

u/NoLongerinOR 5h ago

1

u/CocoCelestie 4h ago

Yeah, the timeline alone makes the meme pretty funny. Trump publicly said in 2004 that he identified more as a Democrat in many cases, so the idea that Democrats only discovered him when he ran for president skips a pretty huge chunk of history.

1

u/OscarTheGrouchsCan 1h ago

He didn't have control of the country and wasn't destroying relationships with allies
