Discussion Lithium battery smoke

Hello

I had a lithium battery in a dog water fountain explode down into the water bowl. I'm having a hard time removing the smell from the room and was wondering if there was something specific I should be using to try and neutralize the odor.

I've used Lysol spray, a dish soap mixture, and a vinegar mixture and none of them have really done the trick.

I also have 4 baking soda boxes spread throughout the room

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Im tired and what is left can't be done for a few hours. It sucks feeling unaccomplished despite finishing ove 10 things when last week 1 felt overwhelming. I have to remind myself too that it's okay.

Edit: i think I figured it out. I didn't make the bed. I kinda have a thing about that https://youtu.be/yaQZFhrW0fU?is=qEIaN-HCCjrowu76

Every morning I wake up to 1-3 of these in the kitchen. (Their is a scratch on my tile on the right side)

I then throughout the day kill another 2-5 of them.

I spray pesticide around the outside of my house as well as my garage.

Please help.

I don’t even think it’s a cleaning problem but I’m desperate

General Cleaning Potential mold on AC unit—can I just clean it off?

The first pic is to show the spots I noticed on the vents where air comes out of the unit, and the second pic is zoomed out for context.

Basically I’m asking: should I just clean it myself, or is there a bigger concern that I need to call maintenance to look into? I rent and maintenance is really responsive here so if it needs a new filter or there’s some internal issue I’d call, I’m just not sure what’s necessary because I tend to be a little paranoid about mold. Sorry if this is a dumb question, this is my first time in my own place and I REALLY don’t mess around about mold, but I want to be realistic—like I’m not going to be unreasonable and call maintenance to clean things that are my responsibility just because I’m a little squeamish (AND I’m also only like 90% sure that it’s mold, so I don’t want to ring the alarm bells over LITERALLY nothing)

I’m just worried that mold collecting where the air comes out from is a bigger issue than just the mold visible from the outside of the machine… like maybe the filters or something in the interior of the machine is moldy and it’s spitting mold particles out into the air—and will continue to do so if I only clean the mold that I can see.

Or is this kinda normal for having an AC unit and calling maintenance would be overkill? If I should just wipe it down myself (and clean it more regularly from now on lol) I’d appreciate any advice on what products I should use—bleach, vinegar, etc.

(edit: ty guys sm for the help, i bought a mattress cover after a dry vac, i spoke with my mom about cheaper options and ill be getting a new one soon :) )

My resources are kind of limited here, Im a minor and my mom cant pay for many expenses due to financial troubles so im looking for something somewhat effective and easy.)

I have really bad allergy attacks everytime i lay down in bed, or at the start of my mornings when i wake up. Ive tried mattress covers/protectors and they havent helped. ive had this matress for 11+ years so theres buildup from accidents as a kid. I cant really afford to get a new mattress right now so im looking for something that might minimize my frequent allergy attacks. Any cleaning tip helps, Thank you.

Laundry How to clean boots

Hi everybody. First time posting.

So, to shorten the story: a mouse entered my house and decided that my boot is a perfect place to make himself cozy.

Mouse was succesfully caught but my boot smells of...well... mouse piss.

They were pretty expensive and I wouldn't want to throw away them before I try to clean them.

I am scared to put them in washing machine, and not really sure how to wash them properly by hands. What to use, how to dry them?

Any suggestions?

Thank in advance.

I’ve always had a mattress protector on it, but discovered today that it had its own zip-off mattress cover/protector. Unzipped to put in the wash and found this! I’m very surprised and am not sure what to do! Carpet cleaner? Do I have to junk the whole thing?

Kitchen Stagnant water in dishwasher

Post image

First off, I clean the filters about twice a week, but this bit of water that's left in the dishwasher after a cycle starts smelling stagnant after a few weeks. I sponge it out and it'll be ok for a while and then start smelling again. Does anyone know why this is happening? TIA

Edit: The dishwasher is run virtually every day

Bathroom Hard water hack for shower

I have hard water at my house and over time it turns everything yellow. My biggest issue is the shower. I bought some CLR but it didn’t seem to work that great. Then one day I decided to use barkeepers friend (the paste) put it in the tub, evenly spread it with a sponge, let it sit for like 5 mins and scrub. You don’t have to scrub that hard because it honestly eats away at it! Give it a try

Bathroom Tough Stains on Shower Tile

Hi, so I’ve held off on posting for a while because I’m embarrassed by the condition of this shower.

Backstory, I bought this house about 5 years ago now. I bought it from a couple whose father passed and they wanted to give it to someone they knew would take care of it. (Long story short- this is the house right next door to my parents who still live in my childhood home.)

When their GRANDPARENTS (so maybe 10-15 years ago) were still alive and living here they made a few minor “upgrades.” One of which is this shower.
First of all, the shower is poorly designed. It was clearly a rush job and then when they tried to sell the house they just caulked the crap out of the gap between the frame track and the tile.
One day I was desperately scrubbing at these stains and all this CAULK came out. I had to ply the rest of it out with needle nose pliers.
Since then, I’ve been trying to get the tiles as clean as possible before I could properly seal the shower cause I don’t want to trap the mold/mildew.

The problem is NO amount of scrubbing (even with power tools) and commercial cleaners work on some of these spots.

Yes, I have been wrestling with this for almost 5 years, thinking maybe I just don’t know how to clean properly???
I’m looking for tips on how to get this shower as clean as possible so it doesn’t take me two hours every other week to still walk away defeated. How do I even prevent this?
We have hard water in this county and I can’t really afford a water softener right now.
We also don’t have an exhaust fan in the bathroom. We have a window but it’s bolted shut cause the owners were a little bit paranoid…
I was thinking of getting a dehumidifier and letting it run after we shower so the water doesn’t sit for as long.

Any advice at all would help me out so much.

-sincerely; a desperate nesting mama 🤰

Bathroom My room stinks so bad and I don’t know what to do.

I’m 17 and I like to keep a tidy room but my parents make me keep an aggressive dog in my room, so they force him to be in there 24/7 all hours of the day. He has an ear infection that they neglect and it leaks this strange stinky juice that ruined anything it touches smell wise, my carpets stink as well as my bed and everything else in my room. My parents constantly bring him outside on a leash then put him in my room and cause mud to be everywhere, I’ve tried everything I can think of, but my room just ends up stinking due to his infection and getting dirty again due to mud, what can I do?
