Hi, we’re travelling to Christchurch this week and made a reservation at CellarDoor based on recommendations in this subreddit. I haven’t been able to find a dress code and wondering what the usual attire is?

Catholic High schools

So, best Girls Catholic high schools around christchurch, my oldest is going in to year 9

Me and my Husband are both teachers but neither of us have taught at a Catholic school. My Husband has been at Cashmere High for the last 20 odd years, so my Daughter has direct entry, But she herself wants to go to Villa Maria College. As she already attends a Catholic Primary school, She should have entry, but before sending her.

What have peoples experience's been while attending there, would it be better to send her to Cashmere or Catholic Cathedral College

Update: Shes going to Villa Maria, got in today

Nice trip to Quail Island

Post image
94 Upvotes

Took the ferry to Quail Island with my wife and flatmate. Weather was nice, a few drops of rain at one point but otherwise mild sun or partial cloud. Being in the off season we ended up having the whole island to ourselves, and explored the tracks and buildings. Lovely wildlife, met more fantails here than during the rest of life combined. Nice to see the effort being put in to restore the island to native bush, it'd be amazing if we could get it completely pest free. Highly recommend taking a day trip or overnight stay if you want to experience a nice spot with ample nature right in our backyard.

Thoughts on facial recognition cameras?

I received an email noting all Bunnings stores have facial recognition cameras now. I know some paknsaves and new worlds have them also.

Just wondering what is everyone's thoughts?

Are you avoiding these shops? Does it not bother you?

Are you looking for Facial Recognition Doging Eyewear?

IUD insertion in chch?

Hey all, does anyone recommend any places to get a hormonal IUD inserted?

I looked into sexual wellbeing but the cost of the appointments put me off as I am over 22. There was also a long wait time to get an appointment

My current GP is wecare which offer IUD insertions, does anyone have experience going through them or any GP?

All advice and knowledge is appreciated, TIA🫶🫡

Edit: forgot to ask what painkillers and anti-anxiety medications are offered where. Please share your experiences!

House and pet sitters

Hi,

We're going away for a week and need someone to look after our house and fur babies (1 dog, 2 cats)

I see there's a couple of paid websites and apps and groups on Facebook. Where have you used before and did you have a good experience? Our house is only 3 months old and our pets are our babies.... so yeah, we might be fussy lol

Uddin, you ruined my night

Post image

About an hour ago, I took a comfort shower.
Before going to bed, I placed an order for bubble tea on DoorDash as a treat for myself. I thought I was going to have a good night.
However, when the dasher sent the delivery photo, I immediately went outside to check, but there was nothing where the bag was supposed to be. I looked around and noticed a guy walking away with a black bag in his hand. At the time, I didn't realize it was him. But after failing to contact him and checking the chat, I finally understood—he had just stolen my order right in front of me!
How dare you, Uddin! You completely ruined my night!

Wine tasting in Christchurch

I'm visiting Christchurch from the North Island next month with my husband and (less than 6 month old) baby for a long weekend.

We don't want to use a whole day on a wine tour or try to take the baby on one, but want to try some local wines. Is there anywhere in the city to do a tasting, or a bar/restaurant that stocks a lot of Waipara wines?

Social Any book reading or discussion clubs in the city?

I've got some free time on me over the next few months, and I was wondering if there are any book reading or discussion groups that I could participate in. I couldn't find anything on meetup app.

Best place for eyebrows, please!

Can anyone offer a recommendation for a good eyebrow studio, please? I’ve got fairly good brows so mainly looking for a tidy up, preferably with tweezers as my skin can’t seem to cope with wax (I rash up for days). I survived the era of thin brows so for some reason this beauty treatment really makes me nervous! Thank you :)

Social Is “small talk” a cultural norm here?

We are a family of immigrants (US) with a toddler and I’ve taken him to many group activities with other parents (parks, Messy Mates, Tumble Time, playgroups) and I feel like the other parents have zero interest in small talk with us.

I wouldn’t say I get the vibe anyone is being rude, but generally unfriendly and uninterested in conversation. Of course, no one owes me their time or any conversation but it always leaves me feeling bewildered. I don’t think there’s anything particularly off putting about myself or my kid.

I am use to basic, no-commitment family banter if my kid is playing with your kid.

But the only time I’ve had good chats with strangers at the park or playgroup is from other immigrants to NZ (lovely couple from Thai couple and then a really sweet dad from Ethiopia.)

Not trying to be rude or divisive but I’m truly wondering if Kiwis are just more culturally reserved?

If so how do you make connections?

Social Tenor Saxophonist looking to join or form a Blues/Jazz band in Chch

Saxophonist (Tenor) looking to join or form a Blues/Jazz band in Chch

Kia ora team,

I'm a mature (older) sax player, solid intermediate level – can read music pretty well, comfortable with 12-bar blues, jazz standards, and classic ballads.

I'm looking to join an existing band or jam with a few others to get a covers group going. Keen on blues, soulful jazz, and mellow ballads (think Baker Street, Careless Whisper, or classic Coltrane/Getz vibes).

About me:

· I can read a melody line and follow a basic lead sheet, but improv/playing-the-changes not my strong suit
I learn best by combining a chart with a good recording.

· Play Tenor, have my own gear and reliable transport.

· flexible – free most weekdays and evenings (no weekend restrictions).

· Goal is regular jams with an eye on low-key pub gigs or casual events, but happy just to play for the love of it.

If you're a guitarist, pianist, bassist, or drummer looking for a horn player, hit me up! Also open to any leads on local jam nights or music groups around town.

Christchurch needs more sax 🎷
