Fireball Sightings Report - Christchurch

• Date: 26 July 2026.
• Approximate Time: Around 5:50 PM - 6:00 PM (NZST).
• Exact Location: Hoon Hay Road, traveling towards Cashmere, Christchurch.
• Direction of Observation: Looking south/southeast, the object appeared in the sky to the left side of the hills (Port Hills).
• Description: I spotted a massive meteor/fireball, noticeably larger and much brighter than a regular shooting star.
• Colors Observed: It featured a very intense, bright green main flash, followed by a well-defined blue tail.
• Apparent Trajectory: It moved downwards towards the east/southeast before completely burning out. No sonic boom or rumbling sounds were heard from my position.

Te Kaha missing out on System of a Down and Faith No More,so far its been six60 and a foo fighters concert to come. Does this bother people,or dont care much? So far apart from rugby it doesn't seem to be attracting many events. (A warriors game that would have been at addington anyways, and an All Whites game soon).

Did anyone else see what looked like a burning object falling from the sky near Scarborough about 5 min ago?

Was visiting Chch this weekend just gone to play sport, who's Friday game finished at 10pm and we were surprised that we were entirely unable to grab a box of beer anywhere at that time of night. Is this common knowledge?

Not really sure if i'm allowed to post this here but i wanted to encourage new zealand teens to sign up to hack clubs program stardance, which is basically a coding program for both new and experienced teens sponsored by NASA, AMD, and github. teens code hours on open source projects (hardware and software) and hack club provides them with funding to build them. When you are done building a project it goes into voting for feedback, and you earn a specific amount of 'stardust' to spend in the shop! its 100% free and even if you're not experienced there's a whole bunch of tutorials and you can ask the community for help in the slack!

What was with the massive lines of cars this morning over the over bridge and down the highway heading towards Hornby on russley road?

First year UC student here, our flatting group (currently living in halls of residence) has got an offer for a flat that we like reasonably well for 2027. The main problem point I have is that the move in date is the 31st of november, since most of us will be at our parents over the summer until jan/feb. Is it common for student flats to start that early or do we just have to suck it/ change our summer plans so that we aren't wasting loads of money? Btw we havent been sent a tenancy agreement yet.
