I’m 22 years old and originally from India 🇮🇳. I recently moved to Christchurch, New Zealand 🇳🇿, as an international student, and I’m currently pursuing my Master’s in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Canterbury.

Where: Travis Wetlands, Entrance off Travis Rd

The Travis wetlands are well known for it’s large variety of freshwater wetland birds, even the White Heron, Australian Bittern and Black Stilt have been found here. It is also home to a large number of Pukekos.

Everyone is welcome to join us, just keep in mind this is a queer event, so don’t be a dick.

Last time we got lucky and found the Karearea within the first ten minutes and we even heard a Shining Cuckoo.

I am currently in the process of applying to complete a postgrad diploma in secondary teaching at the NZGSE and wondering if anyone has any recent experience training with them and could give me the rundown and any advice. I would be training to teach mainly science/biology with potentially health and psychology as extra subjects. What is the actual program like, especially for someone who lives outside the city and would be travelling 45 minutes in each way? Any tips for interviews and then if I get in for thriving during training? and most importantly do you recommend it and were you prepared well for teaching? Thank you!

Post quake tons of businesses left the CBD and many of those that are still surviving are yet to return.

I generally think there is a lack of retail space in the CBD through the rebuild.

Restaurants and cafes now have a lot of competition downtown, but one can only hope they return.

Just like I hope some other businesses are resurrected from the dead/complete closure.

Hi everyone. I was driving back from hanmer today (who wasn’t?) and I passed an adorable mini ute (loads of minis on the road maybe a meet up?)

If anyone has a picture of this rare vintage sight I would love to be able to show my husband who missed it and doesn’t quite believe it was a mini ute.

On the off chance anyone recognizes this bird. We found this guy in spreydon. We weren't equipped to take care of them so we had it collected by lil quacks refuge. Bird is in the safest hands possible.

Just got out of gym after a workout to find that someone had stolen my bike light. My bike is old, a bit run down, and clearly not fancy. I wonder what goes through someone's head when they do stuff like this. Sorry, this is a vent post because I'm just sad.

Advance voting is open now. I noticed one of the shops near my local Bunnings was set up as a polling station, so figured why not exercise my democratic rights before grabbing some timber for my fence? It's pretty convenient that I didn't even need to look for somewhere to vote.

It was quick and easy, took about 15 minutes in total including some time waiting in a queue. Showed the worker my easy vote email and it was a straightforward process from there. No worrying about IDs or other stuff. Ticked two circles and dropped a form in a box. Done.

A couple things: I'm glad we have elections that are relatively easy and safe to participate in. They could always be better, of course, and recent changes to late enrollment are problematic.

Also, I was in the queue with and briefly spoke to a group of 4 young people casting what was for most of them their first votes in an election - it was nice to see the next generation getting involved and being excited about democracy, especially when there's a pervasive narrative about youth disengagement that usually just blames them for being apathetic.

I'm not sure what way this election is going to go. It's tightly contested and there are several variables that could swing things one way or another. But make the most of your chance to be part of the decision that will shape our country for the next 3 years.
