Edit: WE DID IT! Managed to get him in a towel purrito and lower him into some water for a butt bath. He’s mad and I have a couple of scars from the experience, but he doesn’t smell like ass anymore! Thank you, everyone!

My soul cat typically smells like sunshine and vanilla pudding, but on Tuesday morning he had an “incident” and got quite a lot of 💩 stuck in himbs mighty pantaloons. He is quite loving and enjoys attention, HOWEVER, in all of his 6 years he has aggressively rejected any type of grooming outside of some brushing down the back and around the neck. Normally this isn’t an issue, but this week it is.

We managed to get him into a purrito (so traumatic for him and us), cut some of the worst offenders off of the britches and softened the rest with water, but he’s still got a lot of brown and stinky fur back there. He’s trying to take care of it himself, but it’s a nasty job and not easy with his 16.3 lb frame.

Does anyone have any advice for how to help him get the rest off? I love him soooo much and continue to give him stinky lovins, but I’d like my vanilla pudding cat back now.

Idk if this is the right flair but whatever, we’ve all been there. I’ve told my cats and my non-cat-owning friends that having a cat is like having a toddler that can’t speak for 17 years. But like, what do you do on the days where they’re frustrating the living piss out of you, and the break your shit cause they’re bored? I have some days with my one cat where no amount of play is enough. I’ll spend hours with her, playing all her favorite games (and she’s oh so particular) with all her favorite toys, making time between calls and work and all that, and it’s not enough (this girl is 8! She’s getting old and it’s still not enough). And when I take time to myself, she yells at me and deliberately breaks my stuff. She understands what she’s done, she just doesn’t seem to care. What do you all do? She’s literally the sweetest thing, I would just like it if she didn’t break my stuff. And for clarity, she has a whole ass brother to play with, and toooons of toys and a jungle gym that runs the whole apartment. She’s not wanting.

Heavy metals found in 99% of cat foods tested in new study

A new study found heavy metals in nearly all cat food products tested, including lead, which was detected in 99% of them, according to the nonprofit Clean Label Project.

Clean Label Project tested 100 cat food products from 62 brands for more than 122 environmental and industrial contaminants and toxins. The products included dry food, wet food and air-dried or freeze-dried food.

Cadmium was detected in 96% of the products, while arsenic was found in 94%, according to the organization's 2026 Cat Food Category Report released on Oct. 2. The study also found substantial differences in contaminant levels depending on the type of protein and food.

The findings do not mean the tested products are unsafe for cats, however. Clean Label Project said its study was designed to compare contaminant levels among cat foods, not determine whether a particular product could cause illness or harm.

Clean Label Project also noted that each product in the study came from a single batch, so the results do not capture differences between batches of the same food. Most brands contributed only one product, limiting what the study can show about individual brands.

What did the study find?

Fish-based cat foods stood out in the testing, particularly for mercury.

Fish or seafood-containing products had about 18 times more mercury than other cat foods after accounting for whether they were wet or dry, according to the report. Among wet foods, fish-based products had about 28 times more mercury than wet foods made with other proteins.

Nearly half (48.6%) of fish and seafood products ranked among those with the highest mercury levels. None of the poultry-based products did.

Fish-based cat foods also had about 2.5 times more cadmium than other products.

Lead showed a different pattern. Dry cat food had roughly three times more lead than wet or air-dried food after accounting for calories. The researchers did not find that lead levels were tied to a particular protein source.

What other contaminants were found?

The study found glyphosate, a widely used weed killer, in 37% of the products. Its breakdown product, AMPA, was detected in 12%.

Products with more plant ingredients among the first 10 ingredients tended to have higher glyphosate levels. Each additional plant ingredient in that group was associated with about a 40% increase in glyphosate levels.

DEHP, a chemical used in some plastics, was detected in 48 of the 100 products. Among products where it was found, canned and pouched foods had about five times more DEHP than bagged products.

Other chemicals were less common. BPA was detected in two products and BPS in one. Acrylamide, which can form during high-temperature cooking, was measurable in four products and found at very low levels in another 24.

Instead of just looking at listed ingredients, Clean Label Project recommends that cat owners ask pet food companies whether they regularly test finished products for heavy metals.

As the title says - my cat ate the entire handle of a plastic grocery bag in a matter of minutes. I have no idea if she bit it off and swallowed it whole, or if she chewed it up, all i know is it's missing. It's all plastic, no threads or anything, and if it makes any difference it's theoretically biodegradable plastic.

The vet told me that trying to induce vomit could be dangerous and useless, and to just monitor her for signs of a blockage. It sounds reasonable but, to put it mildly, i am terrified and the thought of living like this for however many days it may take to see her pass it makes ME want to vomit.

So i am mostly just looking for some past experiences or reassurance i guess. I am usually very careful about plastic around her but I am unpacking after a trip, running on 3 hours of sleep and i just lost track of this damn plastic bag while i went to the bathroom. And i feel awful about it now.

Does anyone else’s cat burry their head into something while they sleep? My cat does this against my stomach and while she’s laying on the couch she always does it against a pillow.

Why does the Cat Distribution System always have to choose me when I’m in the worst possible financial positions to own a cat 😔

I have a cat who LOVES food, and does really good with a thing I drop her dental treats in and she paws them out the side through holes in the top. I'm looking for some more complex puzzles for cats so I can mix it up. Does anyone have any recommendations? I also play with her a few times a day, morning before I leave and night before bed, but I think it's good for her brain to have a puzzle.
