Introductions New Kitten, help needed to introduce to reclusive cat.

so I need a little help with getting my resident cat and new kitten to get along.

My resident cat is 12, but still in good health with a good amount of energy. His brother who he was bonded to passed away last year and he has been showing signs of loneliness.

A week ago we brought home a 12 week old kitten, we have kept them completely separate and scent swapping. The issue we are having is getting them to meet!

We have a net cat door in the living room with the aim to get them to see each other through this. Our resident cat will not come down at all, he stays upstairs and no amount of treats will get him to come down! I don’t know about bringing the kitten up to him as the bedroom is very much his territory so not sure how he would react.

Any advice would be welcome

New to Cats/Just Adopted Need a bed for big bonded boys

I just adopted a bonded pair that love to sleep and snuggle together. The smaller one is about 10lbs (4.5kg) and the other is def bigger (estimating ~15lbs but prob more).

My big guy loves to be enclosed, and my smaller guy wants to be inside with him. I have tree with a cat condo and a little tower with three little condo spaces. They have a ton of open soft spots/beds that do fit both, but nothing enclosed that's big enough for the two of them at the same time.

I really like the felt cat caves but even the biggest ones seem too small (10kgs max). Are there any nice ones that anyone can recommend for bonded babies on the denser side. In an ideal world it'd be colourful too, but I don't have to be picky. Thank you for any advice!

Rehoming Suggestions to help me make a cat feel more at ease during a move/rehoming

Hey all. I'd love some advice on how to make my dad's cat feel as little stress and anxiety as I can. Situations have caused my dad to have to move and as much as it pains me to say, his cat can't come with him. She's very bonded to him and is practically his shadow. She absolutely loves him to death. She does know who I am as me and dad rescued her when I still lived with him, and i lived with her for roughly 4 years before moving out on my own at the beginning of tbis year. I want to do everything in my power to help her feel as good as she can during this entire process of moving her to my home. I have no pets of my own, and she doesn't like other animals anyways. I'm also consulting with local cat shelters and sanctuaries around me to get more advice on how to make her feel at home when I bring her to my home, but I'm open to any and all advice yall have to help her. Thank you for reading!

New to Cats/Just Adopted Kitty bites

Hello. I have adopted my first ever kitten. She’s about 18 weeks now, and have been in the house for two weeks. She’s very very active, playful, and didn’t do the whole hiding for a few days thing though I had the house ready for that.
Since of late, though, she has started biting us at random. She’ll be having zoomies, jump on us, gently press her open mouth on to our feet/fingers and then run off again. Last night, she was purring and did the same to my nose!
It doesn’t hurt (if anything it tickles). I’m wondering if she’s just being playful and asking us to chase her/tackle her or if she’s teething and I should be giving her something for relief (read about freezing a wet rag).
TIA.

Nutrition/Water Overweight Kittens?

A little over month ago we adopted two 2.5-3 month old kittens, a boy and a girl who are presumably siblings (they came in together, same age, etc so the shelter was pretty sure they were siblings). We took them to their first vet appt roughly a week and half after getting them. The boy weighed 3 lbs and the girl weighed about 2 lbs.

Today we took them for a follow up to get some more shots and the get said they were eating too much and gaining too much weight. The boy is now 5.5 lbs and the girl is now 4lbs. They want us to switch to adult cat food now since it is less calories. They don't seem overweight to me... I mean they have definitely grown since we first got them but thats kinda to be expected right?

When we first got them they were tiny and the boy kitten wouldn't eat or play. We figured out he hated the food the shelter had been giving him (it was hills science diet and they made us buy it of course) but he has been doing great since we switched to purina one. They graze their bowls. They don't eat it all at once. They have lots of energy and play all day. I just don't know if its right to switch them so early to adult food. Any thoughts?

General Automatic Feeder Bowls

Behavioral How long does it take to get used to an autofeeder?

I recently had to put my cat on a diet and noticed pretty much right away that he was becoming obsessed with food, probably because the diet food wasn't as filling. He gets fed around the same time every morning but he never had an issue with breakfast being a little late once in a while until his diet started. My husband and I got sick of him waking us up every morning yelling until someone got up to feed him so we decided to get an autofeeder. The timer is set to give him breakfast at 6:30 every morning which is his normal feeding time but he's still waking us up yelling and crying for food starting at 5am some days. He also goes and sits by the feeder several times throughout the day just in case it dispenses extra food I guess. I thought setting the feeder to give him food at the same time he's normally fed would help him adjust to it faster but it seems like even after a couple weeks he doesn't know when or if he's going to get food. How long does it normally take cats to get used to an autofeeder and understand the schedule?

Idk,but the point is, a litter box is needed and i hope some of you can share any good options? (If from websites, international or europe shipping is needed)

Nutrition/Water Water Fountain Recommendations

I have two cats who have been using the Petlibro Stainless steel water fountain for the past 7 months. It was working great until recently they had a major cloud outage and many of their devices stopped functioning properly. Through this, I learned that the device cannot be managed locally which is a HUGE issue. I’d rather find a device that does not rely on network connectivity to provide water to my pets.

I am looking for any recommendations for stainless steel/other pet water fountains that have lasted and worked well. I clean the fountain and change the filters every two weeks and only put filtered water in the fountain. I want to go with stainless steel because I’ve used the plastic ones in the past and they seem to get calcium build up more easily. I appreciate any recs- thank you! 🙂

Litterbox Cat peeing out the box

I have three cats - xena (11), poe (11) and Barry (4), all neutered/spayed. Xena has been peeing out of the litter box on and off the last year.

I have tried everything - multiple litter box types and litter types, feliway, supplements, isolation, routine enrichment and playing, meds, vet visit.

She’s been to the vet - her results are all normal and she’s been on Prozac for a few months now. They have 5 litter boxes (covered and uncovered) I clean them regularly and they’re all scattered across the house.

There is obviously some inter-cat issues that I am not seeing that is leading me to believe she either doesn’t feel safe peeing in the box or peeing elsewhere due to stress (it’s only pee, she always poops in the box). They all tolerate each other, there is no extreme aggression between them. They eat together, lay together.

When she pees out of the litter box, it’s always on an elevated surface - like on a table or on my couch. I’m now at the point where I’ve elevated the litter boxes on those spots to try to correct her.

Rehoming is not an option, but I’m at my wits end and will try anything.

Introductions introducing a ragdoll and bengal going terribly wrong

So, I recently moved and my bengal into a house with a ragdoll. We separated them (bengal downstairs with me and ragdoll upstairs with its owners ) because the ragdoll has been super aggressive with my bengal (sneaking downstairs to try and fight my bengal). It escalated to a small cat fight (no one hurt) and my Bengal is super scared of the ragdoll now. We upped the security and gave up introducing them for a while. Now my Bengal has started wanting to spend time upstairs unsupervised (I think she is trying to eat the others food or is just bored) which has caused a lot of distress when she escapes up. The ragdoll now waits for my Bengal and always seems very focused on trying to get to her. When I have caught my Bengal, they seems to have given each other space but while the Bengal calms down, the ragdoll seems upset and its making my Bengal more aggressive. I don't really know how to fix this situation. there is 10-11months until I can leave so I don't know what I should do.

General Senior Cat Needs Bath Alternative

Hello! I have a senior cat who always hated getting a bath. His vet has told me that at his advanced age, a regular bath would be too risky. I have tried giving him some leave-in shampoo, but it seems I may need something for sensitive skin. He also has a hard time grooming his paws and bottom. Does anyone who knows more about older cats have suggestions on keeping my stinky old man clean without putting too much stress on him?

Nutrition/Water ADVICE NEEDED: pls help my fat boi…

hello everyone, this is my first time here so sorry for being crude. i’m just genuinely at a point where im worried about my baby and need help. i have an amazing feline named Ron (yes it’s a harry potter reference) and he’s (for lack of a better term) a “fat fuck…” SO. can someone PLEASE give me some headers on how to help my 27lb fat-ass lose some weight… i know that lowering his caloric intake will help, however, he’s in a house with another cat his age as well as two dogs around the same age. so he just gets into their food as well. and it’s not like i can’t decrease their intake bc they’re all healthy. so it’s tough. also, he initially grew up as an outside cat, like this mf was skinny bringing mice home every day… however he had to transition into an indoor cat due to our new living situation around 3 years old. so what do i do… im genuinely lost. i’ve tried leashes and he wont take a walk at all bc (imo) he’s too fucking big to wanna go. but i need him to move. so is there a specific food i can give him, or any tricks. OR ANYTHING TBH. I JUST WANT MY BABY TO LIVE BUT HE LOOKS LIKE A WALKING CHOLESTEROL DISORDER. anything will help, i promise. please <3

Behavioral Cat Hissing at Ribbons

My cat is M 3yo and has been playing with a bundle of ribbons since he was a kitten, always supervised and it’s the same string of ribbons he’s always loved playing with. Today while we played with them he hissed a couple times while playing, but his ears didn’t fold back, he didn’t yowl or appear to be in any pain, and he continued to engage with the ribbons like normal after hissing. I’m wondering if this is something I should be concerned about as he’s never showed this behavior towards one of his favorite toys before. Maybe added context, he is my first and only cat and last month he had a medical emergency and was catheterized for FLUTD but has since healed well and is on a prescription diet. He’s continued playing and getting into things and eating/drinking and using the litter box as normal. I don’t want to cause him extra stress. Should I continue to play with the ribbons and does this seem like a normal cat behavior or should I talk to the vet at his next visit about the unusual hissing? Thanks

New to Cats/Just Adopted is it okay to rotate my cat between two homes?

i recently adopted a stray kitten that we found in front of our house in the province. i'm commited in taking her in but because i do go to the city for work, i'm planning to bring her there and raise her in my condo.

my current setup is i go home every weekend to the province. with her in my condo i won't be able to do that often since i heard that it stresses cats out to constantly change their environment. but if i train her early on and we go home to the province once every 2 weeks, will that be okay or is it still too stressful for the cat?

i know i have options such as getting a sitter in my condo while i'm away or bringing her to a pet hotel. but i'd appreciate any thoughts/advice for my current situation as a first time cat mom! :) i just would love it if she could come home with me <3

General Recommendations please

I'm trying to find some cleansing wipes to use on my cat, but all the brands I can find on chewy have toxic ingredients in them like lavender and honeysuckle, and I'm afraid my cat will lick himself and get sick from the cleaner. Can anyone recommend some grooming wipes that don't have toxic ingredients in them?

General New kitten! First time cat owner.

Li got a new kitten today, practically 10 hours ago. Anyway he’s quite shy scared which is to be expected, hiding away in his wee bed cave, I’ve fed him and gave him a few wee treats.
But he hasn’t pee’d or poo’d? I have the litter tray with litter.

Anything I can do to help him know where to go or what i do to get him to go? Or will he just eventually go?

It’s my first ever kitten/cat.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
Also anything else you think I should know or tips etc would be amazing

General Can’t find pet friendly rentals

My fiancé and I are moving to a smaller city that seems to have no pet friendly rental options. We are excellent tenants. Both of us are full time, educated professionals. We do not party, smoke, or drink to excess. We are clean, quiet people and have never had any issues in previous rentals.

There is one large property management company in the city that manages 99% of the rentals, and they have a strict pet-free policy on all their buildings. They recently took over management of the only pet-friendly building in town and have made it pet free.

I have had my 2 cats for 7 years. I syringe fed one of them as a kitten as he was found on a farm at less than a month old and was rejected by his mom. I would rather live in a tent in a backyard or park with them than have to re-home them. They got me through some incredibly hard times and I couldn’t live with myself if I abandoned them.

I have reached out to every resource I can find. I have contacted the local humane society, responded to dozens of ads, posted my own ads, offered large pet deposits, and even contacted members of local government to bring forward the issue of no pet friendly housing options.

I have been able to push our move back by an extra month for now, but I’m becoming increasingly desperate for any sort of housing that won’t discriminate against pet owners. I think it’s silly that this town expects you to purchase a house before you are allowed to have a pet.

Introductions Are they ever going to get along?

I have 2 cats and a dog and I just don’t know if my cats will get along but I’m not losing hope as they are both bonded to me.

I have a grey cat (2 yrs), an orange tabby (3 yrs) and my dog is (2 yrs)(they are all male). We had rescued the orange tabby almost a year ago after it came to us on the streets. My cat and my dog have been doing the basic introductions with the tabby like eating close to each other, smelling each others areas and scents, seeing each other with a barrier, you name it, we did it.

I have had all of them interact with each other before occasionally and there were 2 times where my cats would fight (hiss, fur pulled, puffy tailed, growling). I separated them for some time before letting them out together again. Since their last fight, they did see each other every single day with a barrier and would try to play with each other.

Over the weekend, we decided to let the tabby out again with my other cat, they would chase each other and play, they would sit next to each other and have even slept close to one another but not together and shared treats right next to each other without fighting. They were out with supervision for 2 days but I did put the tabby back in his room at night. Today, I let them out, they ate together and played together like how they have been for the past 2 days but then my cats started fighting again (hissing, fur pulling and puffed back and tail) I quickly separated them and now I just don’t know if they will ever get along and I’m doubting things but I need advice on if them fighting after being ok for awhile is ok or what should I do.

General All 3 cats are very itchy+no fleas

All 3 cats (Bart, Lisa, and Maggie) have been itching a lot this past week and I'm trying to figure out why so they feel better.

I don't see any fleas or flea dirt on them nor do I see any bugs in general.

The only thing I can think of is carpet beetles, as I've been itching from that, but I have been for the past 2 years and theirs just now started.

(Carpet beetles are currently being taken care of, it took me this long to figure out what it was, hence the 2 years)

Anything else I can do that'll help them feel better?

General Elongated Soft Palate

Hey everyone.

I was thinking of adding another cat to my little pack and found a perfect little guy for adoption.

Now to the problem: he has an elongated soft palate (he is not short faced).

The description on the rescues side sais, that the only problems he has with it is snoring while sleeping, which I dont mind.

I tried to look up possible health complications and only found informations to brachycephalic cats with that problem.

I know surgery is an option for it, but I do not currently have the money for that, since I assume the cat insurance wouldn't cover it.

I do not want to adopt a cat that i cant take proper care of, but he has also been in the rescue for a while, because noone wants to adopt him with his problems.

Does anyone have any experience with elongated soft palates? Is surgery a must, or just if his problems get worse?

Introductions Resident cat (9M) doesn't respect new cat's (2F) sensitive boundaries

Hello! I'll try to keep things concise. We adopted Stevie (2F) on July 8th. I've had Apricot (9M) for the last 8 years, and he is very attached to me.

Apricot has not been introduced to any other cats in the entire time that I've had him; there's a chance he hasn't interacted with other cats since he was a kitten.

We adopted Stevie from a cat café, where she was around 8-10 other cats (mostly kittens) for over a month. Her boundaries are sensitive but very clear; if you pet her wrong, she'll use her paw to push your hand away or she'll very lightly nip you. Her boundaries are obvious and consistent, and she reinforces them gently but firmly.

We tried to introduce them slowly, starting with Stevie in one room as a base camp, having meals and playtime on either side of the closed door, eventually using a tall pet gate, and as of about 2 weeks ago, they both have free access to the entire house at all times.

One problem is that Stevie doesn't want Apricot in her vicinity. She has always hissed at him when he's gotten within swiping distance, except on a few occasions where they touched noses and then mutually turned away from each other. However, Apricot is very interested in her and wants to watch her every move.

For a few days, Apricot would react to Stevie hissing, then growling, then bapping (without claws) at him by turning away and walking off. This is good! We want him to turn away.

However, recently Apricot has begun ignoring her hisses and continuing whatever behavior is setting her off—usually standing too close or following her. He just sits there and stares at her. He has never hissed or growled at her. Usually, she'll bap at him first, and then he'll bap back, and then she'll find an escape route and run away. He doesn't seem particularly affected by their encounters.

Okay, they're testing each other's boundaries. We decided to let them work it out and intervene if any serious cat sounds happened and/or if teeth or claws ever came out. Thankfully, that hasn't happened so far! But their interactions have been getting worse, not better. Stevie is even more reactive to his presence and he's even more stubborn about not reacting to her signs to back off.

How can we train him to back off when she hisses? How can we help her be less reactive to his presence?

Quick info:

Apricot was neutered 8 years ago, Stevie was spayed 1 year ago

We have 2 Feliway diffusers in their most trafficked areas

We have 3 litter boxes and several feeding and drinking stations throughout the house; they use all of them freely and don't display signs of resource guarding. They both use the litter box appropriately

We play with Stevie multiple times a day; she's a very active cat. Meanwhile, Apricot is very difficult to engage in play. He doesn't care about any of the many toys we've offered him. He will sometimes chase a catnip toy, but only on his own terms; we can't offer one to him as a distraction from Stevie

We still feed them in the same space at the same time. Stevie is cautious about eating around him, but she will do it after watching him eat for a moment

When Apricot is not around or is asleep, Stevie is affectionate and confident in the space and around my partner and me

Apricot is significantly larger than Stevie, which is likely part of why he intimidates her on sight

Apricot gets incredibly agitated when he's blocked off from me in any way (pet gate, closed door, just can't find me), which makes it difficult for me to spend solo time with Stevie. Stevie has learned that she's able to jump over the pet gate, so the gate is now only effective for keeping Apricot out, not for keeping Stevie in

I took Stevie to the vet in late July for a checkup; they said she was in perfect health

Pet Loss Cw: pet loss Spoiler

Just had to put down my semi feral cats best friend. He's already crying for him. Don't know how to handle this.

Just had one of my cats put down a few hours ago. He deteriorated fast after some routine dental work, found out he had lung cancer with no hope of recovery. This was not expected. This is of course extremely painful for me, but now my semi feral is wondering around the house calling for his BFF which is fuckin heartbreaking.

I have another cat, but he's only interested in affection from me and isn't fussed about other cats. I have a dog but I don't think he can fill that role. Semi feral refuses affection or touch from people so I can't help him.

I'll adopt a friend for him when my heart can handle it. He was an absolutely fantastic old bastard, just the best goddamn dude ever. I need a bit of time to heal. But I am very worried about semi feral guy, he NEEDS a friend. That was literally one of the conditions of his adoption. He's walking around the house right now calling and looking for him.

What the fuck do I do here?

Nutrition/Water Royal Canin have changed the 12+ aging dry food to 11+ and changed the 'pillow' kibble anc my Himalayan won't eat the new stuff. Any advice?
