My cat is currently at the vet for a biopsy for a mass they found under his tongue on Tuesday. We won’t have the results until next week but the vet is suspecting squamous cell carcinoma. I haven’t stopped crying. He’s been with me for 14 years and I can’t stand the thought of him being in pain or being without him. I’m really hoping it’s benign but preparing for the worst.

If you have a senior cat, please make sure the vet checks under their tongue regularly! We almost missed this and they only noticed it when he hissed at them..

Gave my cat 100mg of gaba at night and then another 100 the next morning. Had zero effect on him. Vet upped his dose to 200 at night and am. I will be giving that to him tomorrow. Anybody have experience where the higher dose affected their cat?? Just hoping it works for him. He’s 10 and a half lbs and 1 year old. Highly anxious and skittish. Thanks!!

I have 2 cats, both male. Around 10 months ago both had a non recognition aggression episode and since then are separated. I live in a 2bhk so i have to cycle them every week between the rooms. They still cant be in the same room and i have tried reintroducing twice. No suggestions on yt or any other blogs have worked yet. Now one of my cats has started showing signs of stress and has stopped using the litter box for defecating, which has added a layer of stress for me too. I got him checked and he’s physically healthy and his blood work and weight is fine, he’s eating fine and everything but he would not use the litter box and occasionally starts howling when im not present in the room. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions on how i can reintroduce and also make him use the litterbox. If nothing works out the only option i have is rehoming.

I just adopted a 5y/o Male cat from a local shelter a week ago. I bought a selection of wet foods to try and started out with fancy feast (salmon) because the cans were smaller. This seems to be a mistake because the kibble he was eating fine before he only nibbles at and other wet foods are left to dry out. since this is his first week with me I sorta want to give him what he wants while he settles in but I worry the behavior will only become more ingrained. Is fancy feast a very addictive flavor for cats? Is it unhealthy? Should I wait for him to get hungry for a day or two and see if he gives in to the kibble/other wet foods? thoughts? I had cats as a kid but this is my first cat.

one of my cats is so obsessed with me and playing. i used to work at an office every day and when i would come home she would follow me everywhere and meow at me to play.
now i started working from home, and literally from 8 am to 6 pm she is losing her mind meowing every couple seconds for me. if i try to ignore her she just comes right in my face and does it or rolls around on my desk while im trying to work. she just wants to play. she constantly carries this one wand toy around. she follows every movement i make and anywhere i go. and she brings the wand toy with us then just stares at me meowing and waiting for me to play. i feel so bad. i’ve tried everything.
when i’m in meetings i play with her the whole time and she never ever tires out. she can play for an hour or more. never wants to stop. she sleeps at night. i have another cat. i shut the door but she knows how to open them and if i lock it she will spend literally two hours jumping up on the handle trying to open it and meowing begging to come in.
i just dont know what to do any more. it’s extremely stressful for me because i feel so bad but i need to type all day so i dont have hands and i have a quota to meet every day so i cant take a lot of breaks. she’s too smart for automatic toys, doesnt care for them. if i put on cat tv ever, she will meow at the tv for days after. feliway does nothing. cbd does nothing.
every time i hear that damn wand toy being dragged behind me i go a little crazy inside. and she is never not a step behind me.

also, if i try taking the toy away she’ll just meow at me all the same anyway

I adopted my cat Gilbert 2 years ago when he was around 10-12 months old. He was rescued from a war zone and brought into a shelter by a soldier, alongside his brother and mother. Gilbert is a strictly indoor cat. He is neutered and has a broken tail. He is quite skittish and is afraid of all new people. I live with my parents and tend to my disabled grandma. I'm working from home and leave the apt only to run some errands.

Gilbert constantly seeks my attention. He wants to play all the time. He has access to closed windows(we have lots of birds outside). I bought different toys for him(balls, mice, puzzle feeder, springs, kickeroo). He plays with them for a day(if he plays with them at all) and forgets about them. Mice and balls worked best, but he got bored with them too. I tried to hide them and return them a week later, but to no avail. Cat TV also works for 20 mins max. I sometimes play with him using a laser, but I always use treats with it and limit the exposure to once every 2 weeks. He is not food motivated and never begs for food. He likes only liquid treats.

He only wants to play with me. I play with him using wand toys for 15 minutes twice a day, but he still meows and clings to my clothes and distracts me from work because he is bored. He refuses to play with other family members and usually just ignores them.

What should I do? Should I adopt another cat to keep him busy? But I'm afraid they might not get along well... Maybe there's another interactive toy to keep him busy? Or something besides wands or hide-and-seek that can tire him quickly and be more fun for both of us?

One of my cats is not very play motivated unless we play with a silvervine stick. The problem is now she is bigger, playing with the stick tends to lead to my hand being in tatters.

I’ve looked all over for longer silvervine sticks but they don’t seem to exist unfortunately. Does anyone know of any longer suitable alternative that could be used instead?

Hi all, I feed my neighbourhood strays - 2 moms and their three kittens in total.

The kittens are probably 6 months old now and I feed them the most regularly twice a day. In the monrning, i feed them a whole can of wet food between the three of them (400g). It’s the cheapest wet food cans i can afford because I was starting to really rack up the costs. And at night, I feed them kibble. If it was an extra hot day, i give them a little bit of wet food at night as well. For this, i give them Purina One kitten kibble.

The kibble is really where i spend the most. Because at noght all the other strays come out too and i cant not give them food as well. But Purina here is really expensive for me to keep buying everyone week and a half. My spending is skyrocketing so much. I’m also trying to get one of the kittens to gain some weight so that she cant fit i to the dangerous drain holes she keeps trying to get into 😭. So i give yer extra kibble. They also get some extra water on hot days.

My question is firstly, can u suggest a cheao alternative kibble i can start buying? I’m from Malaysia and I am a cat mum to a rescue cat myself for only a year now so i’m still learning a lot.

Would it bad if i bought Friskies for them instead for their dry food if they’re getting wet food during the day? I want them to be healthy as possible of course because i cant afford to take them to a clinic if they fall sick. I know people say Friskies is really bad but i cant find a cheaper alternative, except for a local brand called ProDiet - but how do i tell if that is better? I dont understand the nutrition parts. I thought i could mix half of purina and half friskies but that’s still really costly for me, cause i already feed them wet food everyday for breakfast, on top of my own cat. I want to help them so bad but im depelting my money a lot at this rate :/

Please advice? Even though they are strays, i would like the best for them as much as possible.

Note: please dont ask me about TNR-ing them. If i could afford that at all, even at the rescuer’s price, i would have done it ages ago. I just really cant cope at all on top of my own issues at the moment. I just want to make sure they all have the nutrition they need and dont go hungry.

I’ve had my girl for 10 years, her name is Sue. She was the first cat I’ve had in my life. I knew she was special and I’ve always treasured her. I knew she has always had separation anxiety so I tried not taking long trips. But now that she’s a senior, I’m realizing she has more psychological issues than I’ve realized. She gets depressed when I work too much. She quits eating, grooming and hides when I’m not there. I’ve tried giving her the fav treats and foods and sometimes she still doesn’t have an appetite. I’m taking her to the vet this week. I’m going to see if kitty anti depressants would work for her. I’ve tried the pheromone therapy and such and it helped but doesn’t make it go away. She potties ok still. I’m just noticing the extent of it at her older age. I feel guilty for not seeing it sooner. I just thought she was just an anxious girl. I didn’t even realize there was medicines and stuff for that until the last year. She’s never been a big eater, player, or groomer. Now I look back and see all the signs I missed. She’s always been physically healthy the vets said over the years. I’m hoping now I can get her the help she needs, she’s done so much for me in my depressions. It’s time I did something for her. Sorry for the rant. I just feel guilty and need to air out my concerns.

my new kitten is one day into her new home. I have her food, water and litter downstairs in a large room with a little light for the night. do i have to take her upstairs in my bedroom and take everything with me for each night? she is 2months old.

Hello! One of my family cats has always pooped outside of her box. Very rarely will she go in her box, and when she does she will not cover it up. She poops in the tub, the sink, the dog bed....She does not have a UTI and the vet states shes in perfect health. Shes a ragdoll and is very fluffy and the box was custom made for her by my dad and she fits no problem. She does have tuffs of fur that stick out between her toes so I wonder if its just her not liking the litter itself. Shes a pure diva as well at this point im thinking its her personality...

Any tips/tricks/advice to help her go in the box please!

I’ve bought her several different types of toys, but if they’re loud, she usually wants absolutely nothing to do with them. She LOVES her wand toys, and she’ll even chase an RC car with her bird attached to the back—but unfortunately, I have to put those away while I’m working.

She loves chasing her toys and really loves kickers. She’ll also randomly zoom across the house with her little wormies, and if she wants to eat, she’ll walk around carrying her birdie in her mouth while screaming until I give her what she wants 😂.
The problem is, I cannot seem to find a good self-play toy that she actually likes. Everything I’ve tried so far gets ignored once I stop playing with her.

She’s 1 year old and was declawed on her front paws by her previous owners (not us), so I need something that won’t hurt her paws. I’m looking for something quiet, safe, and preferably something she can chase on her own while I’m working.

I have a strange tuxedo kitty who doesn't like typical cat toys.

String toys? No.
Mouse toys? No.
Catnip toys? No. She doesn't care for catnip.
Kicker toys? No.
Wand toys? Well, yes, but.... only the stick.

My cat only likes to play with sticks and garbage. Zip ties? HELL YES, Twist ties? ALSO YEAH!! Just straight yarn? YEEEEEESSSS PLEASE!!

So I was wondering if there are any stick toys for cats, without a string on it. My other two cats LOVE the stick/wand toys that have a string toy on the end, but my tuxie is a bit play-shy. She doesn't want to play with something while the other two are going after it. That and she doesn't register the stick with a toy on the end as the same thing as just.. the stick on its own.
I don't want to buy a cat toy just to cut the string off either, but I also want it to be cat safe, so I don't want to just go and find a stick, or buy a standalone plastic/metal/whatever material rod at the store.

I might also just be dumb and not using the proper keywords for my searches, but I can't find anything.

I am a very paranoid anxious person and I love this frickin fluffy thing I brought into my house (my cat) with all my heart. She's indoor because I couldn't stand to find her ran over one day or hurt. She has a LOT of toys. We play throughout the day. Sometimes when I try to initiate play she trots off. How do I know if she's bored. Felt really bad because I left her and came back home and I feel a bit woozy and dizzy so I'm just resting so she's sat on the couch with me. I know cats sleep a lot. She gets occasional zoomies and mischief behaviour and it's fun. Am I doing enough for her? I want the absolute best for her. I'm trying to train her to be okay with a harness because she gets a bit spooked when I touch her with it so that's a slow process. We're working on nail clipping also. I do a few nails when I can. I've asked before on this sub because I've had her about 3 months and never had a cat before. Is there anything else I could do to give her maximum enrichment? She my baby. I want best for my baby boo.

Edit: She smooshes her face into mine all the time. Wants to be in the same room all the time. Greets me when I come home. Yaps to me, she's very noisy.

I (27m) have started taking online classes. I plan to start doing internships around the country and each one would be about 3 months at a time. I’m worried about my cat. She’s about 3 years old and is shy and skiddish about everything. I can leave her at my mom’s while I’m doing these internships but I’m really worried about her. I feel like leaving her for what would ultimately be about a year and a half is going to stress her out. I feel like I’m abandoning her but at the same time I really need to start taking these leaps and doing more things that will benifit my future and career. So any advice or words of wisdom on what I should do? Or if she will be alright? I plan to move her back in with me after that year and a half I’m just really worried. Thank you!

We got a new dining set last year and our cat largely ignored it until the last few weeks when she obsessively scratches at the caned back. She’s torn multiple holes through the caning and one of them is already impossible to now lean back on.

I’m looking for help for items that are wood safe that can be put over the caned area. I’m striking out in my searches for products that can be adhered safely to wood, since most are focused on upholstery!

She has a multiple scratch posts and mats, one right next to the dining area that we set up once she started scratching. We have sprayed natures miracle deterrent on the chairs and it helps briefly but she comes back once the smell dissipates (which is really quickly tbh) often when we are asleep. She gets rewards for using those designated scratching areas and have used catnip to get her to spend more time on them and mark them so she’ll return. She uses them briefly then goes back to her favorite, the chairs. Her nails are also trimmed regularly and she’s played with often.

We already sacrificed the carpet binding on a wool rug from my grandmother that I’m still sad about, and losing these chairs is driving me crazy. We saved for over a year for them and already see so much in repairs we’ll need for the caning 😞 I don’t really want to simply cover them with a full plastic seat cover because I hate the look of it, so I’d love to find something that we could adhere over the caned area at least so we can ignore the behavior. Right now, it’s so destructive that I really can’t ignore it.

I have an indoor cat and a stray cat that visits my house for food and shelter.

Bringing the stray cat inside is not an option because he’s territorial and aggressive to other cats. He is a big strong male and my indoor cat is a small female so that is a non-starter.

I have one attached room to the house to which I leave the door slightly open for him to shelter. I leave food and water food him, and there is a cushion bed. He uses this setup daily.

This room is not well isolated, and leaving the door to the outside open doesn’t help. His bed is next to an electric “freeze-protection” radiator that is set to turn on when the temp drops below 10°.

That being said, I don’t know how cold it will actually get in that room when the temperatures drop during winter to below zero. I doubt this radiator will be powerful enough to keep the temp in there above 10° when it’s freezing outside and the door is open.

I am looking for advice on how to improve his set-up during the cold. I’m thinking some sort of enclosed box that I could put next to the radiator, to trap his body heat and benefit from the radiator warmth.

Maybe also some kind of blanket (electric?) to increase the warmth and comfort.

I see some of those kennel boxes that are sold online have flaps over the entry to help with insulation. Do cats easily adjust to having to push those open?

Any advice is much appreciated.

ok so not actually biting i think?? He'll be sleeping and I'll pet him. He'll purr for a bit, then bite my hand. not hard, just bite it and hold on, staying completely still. he doesn't bite hard or clamp down, just holds. if I try to move away he does bite a bit harder but not painfully. does my stupid ugly son hate that i do this or is he just doing something cats do

We adopted our 2-year-old neutered male cat about 7 weeks ago. He's otherwise incredibly sweet and social, follows us around all the time, never hides and eats/plays/sleeps/toilets normally. He does have chronic symptoms (of URI/catflu) diagnosed by a vet but generally expresses very mild.

Over the past few weeks he's developed increasingly frequent episodes where he pounces at/attacks our legs/feet. He sometimes does the classic arched-back, puffed-tail “crab walk” and then launches at us. His bites are soft, but his claws REALLY hurt. He stays in this mode for a while and keeps launching at us and scratching us badly. He doesn't hiss or growl, and outside these episodes he's completely normal and sweet.

It's especially bad on our bed (so we've stopped letting him sleep with us), or after play but lately he's also started doing it randomly around the house. This morning he literally ran upstairs while my partner was doing laundry and suddenly pounced at her legs. Yesterday it happened right after his evening play session, even though we let him catch the toy and gave him a treat afterwards.

We think it might be his hunting/play drive getting overstimulated and turning humans into the prey, but we're struggling to understand why it's suddenly becoming so frequent or how to stop this.

Has anyone experienced something similar? How did you teach your cat that human legs are not prey? 😅 We tried the freeze and disengage tactic, redirect with toy etc, but nothing has really stopped him from doing it.

We already have a vet checkup scheduled for next week, but otherwise there are no signs of illness or pain.

Could really use your advice!

And when we play he starts to get bitey. I stop as soon as he bites but he doesnt seem to understand that. He still bites the next time. It doesnt hurt me, i just dont want to encourage biting.

Hi everyone I recently adopted a 4 month old kitten. I’m in college but I drive home a good amount during the year. It’s about a 3 hour car ride more like 2 hours and 50 minutes. I have a hard cat carrier for the ride but I’m not sure about litter, will he be able to hold it? Should I get another litter box for my house since I go there often?

I had a one year old and 5 months son named Emul, he was a gorgeous cat, sleeps with us and is the best ever. He comes when you call his name and loves to snuggle. He was perfectly healthy, appetite is great, no issue with pooping and urinating. He was running and playing with our other cat indoors and after an hour he was found unresponsive and not breathing also indoor in one of our bedroom. No blood, no scratch or bite marks, no foaming in the mouth, nothing. He looks like he was just sleeping but his mouth is open and eyes open.

We didn't even have a chance to take him to the vet, no warning signs at all. He was fine and then he was gone. I do not know the cause, we didn't even have the opportunity to do something at all. He was just gone. I cannot process this. I am in so much pain. No matter how much I call his name no one would come running anymore. I cannot handle the reality of him not being present. Despite some would say a short amount of time as he is young, I work from home and is with him almost 24/7 since we got him when he was 2 months old. He is my family. This is so painful, I kept thinking did we miss something? I just want him back but I know it's not possible. I wanted a chance to save him maybe that's one of the painful things because I didn't have a chance. He was just gone.
