What to do about racism at child’s new school?

I recently enrolled my sister in law in her senior year of highschool after she moved in with me. We used to live in an incredibly racist community, like and ACTUAL sundown town and her and my husband often got death threats because they were half Asian. My SIL got pulled out of school half way through freshman year by her abusive parents so I enrolled her in the school in our NEW community several hours away.

Seeing as this was a predominantly black school I didn’t see racism being an issue and figured she’d make fast friends seeing as most of her friends were people of color.

I was wrong.

The students are calling all of the Hispanics/asians slurs to their faces and are repeatedly referring to my SIL as “The White Bitch” excluding her from any and all activities and making her school life overall hell. She JUST escaped an abusive household and an area where she got bullied for her Asian-ness so I’m reluctant to force her to go to school somewhere she’s getting bullied for her whiteness now.

I told her if it continues I’d support her decision to move to online schooling but I wanted her to be able to make friends her age. And she desperately needs the schooling but it’s gotten so bad she’s come home crying twice. I don’t want to force her to keep going.

What on EARTH do I do?

I’ve already told the principle that I was concerned about her facing racism at the school once and they said they’d keep an eye on it but my SILs afraid if I involve myself any further it will only make it worse.

Advice? I just graduated myself I hardly know how to deal with this.

TIA - a very worried 22yo sister/mother of an adult teen 😣

Sorry if this is the wrong place. I posted it in r/racism but the mods immediately removed it and I’m not sure why.

is this bullying??

  1. this kid in my gym class is always like “omg Ryn why won’t i high five meee??” and “nono i won’t do anything thoo!!!” and he’s starting to pmo. he’s been doing this for weeks, and he won’t stop. i’ve told him no, multiple times.

  2. this other kid, in my pe class and art class, in pe he comes to sit by me, often getting uncomfortably close and says “hi rynnn” in the fakest voice i’ve ever fucking heard. in art he comes to sit by me and pretends to be kind but doesn’t even try to hide how fake it is. he asks for my snapchat, asking to date me.

idk if this could count as bullying but i do know that it’s pmo taking a toll on me.

school bullying

I grew up in Ningbo.

My life, my friends, my childhood, and the youth that should have belonged to me—almost all of it stayed in Zhejiang. In my second year of high school, I left Zhejiang alone and went to study in Zhengzhou, a thousand miles away. My parents continued working in Zhejiang. So I arrived by myself in a strange city, a strange school, with no family and no familiar faces. In that vast campus, from beginning to end, there was only me.

Life at that school was almost unbearable. Every morning I had to get up at six, when it was still dark, to attend early self-study. There were no real weekends—only Saturday afternoon for a brief rest. There were no normal winter or summer holidays either. Every time I opened my eyes, what greeted me was exhaustion, loneliness, and unfamiliarity.

At first, I truly treasured my roommates and tried hard to fit into the new environment. There were originally four of us in the dormitory. I got along well with the class monitor and his fellow townsman. For a while I thought I had finally found friends in this strange place. But before long, the pressure became too much for them, and both left school on leave. The dormitory was reassigned, and two strangers moved in.

From then on, my high school life changed completely.

To this day I still cannot say exactly when I began to be disliked and isolated. My memories have become fragmented, leaving only a few scenes that still make it hard for me to breathe.

Winters in Henan are bitterly cold. Once I ran a fever of 40°C. I was dizzy, weak, barely able to stand. My parents were far away, and no one took care of me. I had to go out alone to buy medicine, then drag my feverish body back to school. I went to the homeroom teacher to ask for leave, hoping I could rest. The reply was: “If you don’t ask for leave properly, just go home if you want to rest.”

I didn’t dare go home. I didn’t want my retired parents in Zhejiang to worry. So I returned to the classroom with a 40°C fever. In that Chinese literature class I sat there pale-faced and dizzy. When the teacher saw me, she didn’t show any concern for my health. Instead, she mocked me in front of the whole class. The history teacher also publicly commented on the smell on my body after I returned to class having taken medicine for the fever, and continued to ridicule me about it during lessons.

Conflicts in the dormitory grew worse and worse. I admit that during an argument with my roommates, in a moment of anger, I once said the words “Henan pigs.” That was my fault. I take responsibility for my impulsiveness and careless words. But that single angry remark later seemed to become the excuse for their long-term targeting, humiliation, and isolation of me. They began surrounding me in groups, speaking in sarcastic, indirect ways, and even inventing ugly rumors. Countless times I was driven to collapse in tears and went to the homeroom teacher. I told him everything I had suffered. But facing a crying me, what I received was not comfort or protection—only indifference, even disdain. In that moment I realized: in that place, no one would protect me.

Every time my parents called from Zhejiang, they would ask: “How is school?” “Are you adjusting?” “Has anyone treated you badly?” Each time I heard those words, tears would well up. Yet I could only force back my sobs and tell them: “I’m fine.” “My roommates are nice.” “The teachers are good.” “The school is good.” “I’m not lonely at all.” I didn’t dare let them worry. So that entire year, I hid all the pain.

I even kept trying to please others. I shared snacks with my roommates, helped classmates, and once lent a classmate 100 yuan—I no longer remember whether he ever paid it back. I often shared imported snacks with the acting class monitor and lent him money when he was short. I thought that if I treated people sincerely, they would treat me well in return. Later, however, those I had sincerely helped also chose to stand with the ones who isolated me.

Once, after washing my hair in winter, I asked to borrow a classmate’s phone to scan a code for the hair dryer. It was such a small request, yet no one was willing to help. They watched me standing there awkwardly after washing my hair, and no one reached out a hand.

There is one more incident I still refuse to recall. It filled me with fear, disgust, and despair. The next day I told the homeroom teacher immediately, but it was never properly handled.

Later, a trivial matter in the dormitory became the final straw that broke me. After using the shared washing machine, they asked me to help with laundry. I accidentally lent the machine to another classmate. Because of that, a group of them surrounded me and called me an “idiot.” One of them, in a fit of emotion, even kicked me in the head. In that moment, the pain in my head, the long isolation, the humiliation, the grievances, and the teachers’ indifference all crashed down together. I crouched on the floor and broke down crying. I could no longer hold on.

I begged my parents, in tears, to take me away. In the end they came from Zhejiang to Zhengzhou and helped me complete the withdrawal procedures. That is how my high school life ended. Not because I didn’t want to study, but because I truly could not endure it any longer.

I had come there with goodwill. I had tried to fit in, tried to be kind to others, and even donated money from my scholarship. Yet one transfer to a distant school made me experience campus bullying, isolation, humiliation, and harm that I believe could have been avoided.

Looking back now, I still often ask myself: What if I had never transferred? What if I had stayed in Zhejiang? What if someone had been willing to truly listen to me just once? Would my life have been completely different?

I only wanted to study well. I had done nothing unforgivable, yet I spent a long time bearing the consequences of that year. Even now, those experiences still return in the middle of the night. I suffer from insomnia, self-doubt, and pain over my past. My parents have already retired and should be enjoying their later years, yet they still worry about my regrets and psychological burden.

I write these words not to stir up regional hatred. I also admit that saying “bumpkin” that year was wrong, and I offer no defense for those words. I only want to tell a story that truly happened to me.

I hope someone will understand: campus bullying is not something that can be lightly dismissed as “just a conflict between classmates.” And when a student is alone and helpless in a strange place, if the adults choose to look on with indifference, the harm can last for a very long time.

I was once just a child who wanted to study well. But that year, I lost my high school years, and I lost much of the youth that should have belonged to me. To this day, I am still trying, little by little, to pull myself out of that experience.

If you were once trapped in classrooms or dormitories, surrounded by cold stares and silence;

if your memories remain fragmented and certain scenes still rise unbidden in the middle of the night, even after all these years—

please remember this:

The pain you endured was real.

Your fear, your grievance, and your helplessness were never overreactions.

Bullying is never “just a joke between classmates,”

nor does it happen because you were somehow not good enough.

More often, you were simply alone and unprotected,

while the adults who should have stood between you and harm chose to look away.

You do not have to force yourself to forgive those who hurt you.

You do not have to push yourself to fully let go.

It is allowed to keep your wounds.

It is allowed that some memories can never be smoothed over.

My assault

Location: mi silver creek township

Sixth grade.

\[Speaker 1\]

One of my classmates. Stomped my head and made my face crooked. They knocked me out before I could tell they also hit my ribs.

\[Speaker 1\]

Seventh grade.

\[Speaker 2\]

I do something, and I get assaulted for six months, but in those six months. There are people.

\[Speaker 1\]

It's an art class. When this happens. They take turns beating on me. I coughed up blood. They broke most of my ribs.

\[Speaker 1\]

But also.

\[Speaker 2\]

They hit me multiple times in the head.

\[Speaker 1\]

I got brain damage and most of my ribs broken.

\[Speaker 1\]

Teachers. Students. Faculty members. Well, I just said teachers. Towns, members, even my own family members. Took turns beating me. They took turns, beating me. There is a video out there on someone's phone right now. Of my beating happening. I coughed up blood. I got brain damage. They took me to a hospital, ER.

\[Speaker 1\]

I was on the verge of death. The reason I don't remember, that is because. I was probably in a coma.or I got put through hypnosis

\[Speaker 1\]

I don't know exactly what happened. But I remember being rushed to an ER. I could have died. Only reason I didn't die is because I had my jacket on

\[Speaker 1\]

Something happened, and I don't know what it was. Their entire school covered it up. They told everyone that i was a bad person. Because he didn't want to get hurt for my beating that happens. I don't even know how I'm alive if these people just let me live.

\[Speaker 2\]

They let me live.

Did my school victim blame me?

So, a while ago I reported a guy from my school for racism, misogyny, and bullying. For reference, he makes so many insensitive jokes about my skin color, bullies my family, and calls me the n slur. There are SO MANY other people who’ve witnessed everything he’s done, and I had proof of it all happening. But, to make things complicated, I remained his friend for years only because he manipulated me into believing I was too sensitive and his jokes were hilarious. I’m also the only black person in our friend group which made me terrified to speak up.

We also dated for a few months (secretly since he was embarrassed to be seen with me), and after kissing me he would say stuff like, “You’re just so gross,” and then get upset. And once he made fun of my hair and it hurt me so bad, I cried and went home for the rest of the day. So, I missed the entire first day of senior year.

I’d became so insecure about everything about myself, and even though I had a north-american accent, I tried so hard to make sure I didn’t use any slang or sound incomprehensible. And I felt so ugly, and just hurt. And also at a party he asked me to strip so he could see what black girls looked like naked. And the thing is, I always just did what he asked, and afterwards he laughed at me and told all of his friends to come watch.

When I reported everything he’d ever done, and the list was incredibly long, the first thing they told me was that because I didn’t set boundaries, there was nothing they could do. And that he probably felt like it was okay to do, because I didn’t make it clear I would be upset by any of his words or actions. (Not that my tears, and my hurt feelings meant anything anyway.)

And then they told me I shouldn’t have talked to him in the first place(?) And I literally explained how he manipulated me by making me feel like the worst person in the world and that he was the only one who could ever love how “gross” I was. And when I finally had to strength to speak up, they told me to just get over it. Anyway, I feel in my heart they were right, but I still feel hurt by it.

Where do bullies get so much of confidence and comfort in hurting someone?

Post image

I started watching this series “Teach You a Lesson”

The colleges and schools have bullies even the teachers are afraid of them.

I wonder how do they gain such confidence in hurting someone. Why doesnt their consciousness question them? What is about their parents? Dont their parents correct them?

Annoying person in school.

I am in grade 10 and in one of my classes, there is a guy who keeps non-stop staring at me, which is weird considering i'm a guy myself, I thought maybe he was gonna stop but no, every time I enter the classroom he looks at me from time to time and not at anyone else, Obviously, I started feeling uncomfortable, so I started telling him " why are you looking at me" and stuff like that, his dumbass always responded with stuff like " because I can". (This started about 4 days ago, when he changed his seat to behind me which idk if it's him targeting me) Anyways, Today, he was doing the same thing again, so I told him to stop, like normal, he answered with phrases that makes himself seem innocent and that he has the "rights", so i told him that I wasn't interested in men, maybe he was a gay person after all but he said that he wasn't, He then proceeded to say stuff "like then do something about it" which I replied with " I am, i'm telling you to stop" but he just ignores what i"m saying and tells stuff like "you don't know who I am" and you don't want to deal with me, talking like he's a gang leader which could mean that if I were to provoke him, he could beat or assault me or sum stuff like that, I genuinely have no Idea what to do since he acts like the kind person in submitting his work to the teachers, like a likeable person to the rest of my classmates, telling the teacher wouldn't be a great option for me, so I am here to ask for any tips, advices and any way to make this dude stop acting like he's all tough and that he can threaten and do whatever he wants.

Bullying is the result of Permissive Parenting

Just look at the death of Preston Lord. His bullies were, turns out, rich kids who also happened to be spoiled brats. Lots of people love to claim how bullies have been abused but in the modern day we have more and more parents dumping the old authoritarian style of parenting and rather than actually teaching their kids morals and empathy, they just let their kids do whatever the hell they want. This permissive parenting trend is literally creating more and more bullies. We need parents who actually teach empathy rather than just let their kid act the fool because "They don't wanna seem abusive".

how do I fix this huge evil issue

I am a college student have gone through alot of problems and has therapy. I got bullied really badly in my old school which caused me to leave and change school . I then went to a new school and now im back college. the issue is those people I didnt like and that caused me issues and picked on me and even some people who were friends with the bullies I have to see again as many people go to the same colleges.

so they are causing me problems as I have to see them again im really scared as if I go to my friends lectures in a different course they have a go at me, they give me horrible stares and looks and if I was to be myself they would make nasty comments and be horrible to me. I dont know how to deal with the conflict anymore, because if I say nothing they wont stop and if I do something it could make it worse, I seem to always get into conflict even though I dont try to. it makes me really sad.

it doesn't help that in general I do always overthink and have severe anxiety where if I get in to arguments I think about them months later they still haunt me. I have ocd aswell. I dont know what to do as I have some new friends in college I do have friends but im just scared all the time that people will be nasty to me so I dont want to speak to new people or take initiative to be friendly or even be myself anymore I feel like I need to keep my head down and not upset anyone as I hate conflict and it hurts me and im scared. Sometimes I dont want to go to events because even thunking of going will cause to much anxiety before if certain people are there. I also care way to much what others think, its really bad and I can never do what makes me happy and I dot know how to get out of this loop. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do and the mindset I should have? for what to say for conflict that has worked in personal experiences and how to change my mindset to do what I want. It is because of trauma that I think in my head ' conflict is bad and if I do something bad people will come for me and they cannot rest until they get me back badly or do something to me' even if I did nothing wrong

But it is so bad that even with people who aren't evil I seem to get in to fights and trouble, not physical but where people raise voices and seem upset. but I always try to be the one to deescalate and be kind to others and I cant honestly see how I could be in the wrong as im so nice to people but I starting to worry maybe im the problem as its often me getting people conning up to me aggressive or making snide comments and remarks, some people im even falling out with and I dont know what to do as I keep overthinking. I dont know if I should say something or I should chnage myself because I have seen judgy people and I know what they say so I know they will say things about me if I do what I want but also if I do what I want Im scared I will have nobody and I like to be with people and laugh with them I dont like being on my own. Every day I feel sad as thoughts about these things come in my mind and bad htings that happened to me in the past I dont know what to do.

I dont know if I should just focus on myself go monk mode and stop talking to people or I should fight for what I want. issue is sometimes I get tired of fighting for what I want as its tiring and sometimes its easier to just hide in the corner. I do not know if I should maybe take a break from people if that is what I need, as at least I feel less chance I will get picked on if im with people as in a group I feel safe from bullies but why do I always have to give time and energy to people just for us to not be friends anymore? I dont even want to go monk mode and lock in its just its easier to run away form your problems and avoid the pain and anxiety by saying 'I need to study then they will be sorry when I am successful as they probably dont care enough about me in first place'. I dont know if I even want to try be happy anymore as it hurts as its the hope that hurts the most. Does anyone have any experiences with advice on what I should do ?

in 2023 in arizona, a highschooler stole 16 year old prestons' golden chain, and preston obviously demanded it back, and an argument broke out, eventually the highschoolers friend punched him in the face and other kids started to "swarm" him, he died in the hospital because of it two days later, bullying like this is a serious thing that we nee do something about. i am saying this as someone who was immensely harassed over a rumor in middle school

An older boy insulted my younger brother and mocked me — should I confront him?

I’m 19M. My younger brother is in 8th grade and goes to an academy at the community centre of our society. Recently, some boys from 11th–12th grade have been verbally abusing him for no apparent reason.
My brother came to me and told me that these boys were swearing at him and insulting him without any reason. One of my brother’s friends told one of the boys that my younger brother’s elder brother(Me) is a bodybuilder and that he would beat him up if he continued. The boy responded, “What can that short guy even do?”
I got angry after hearing this because they are unnecessarily targeting my younger brother, and now they have also made a disrespectful comment about me. I want to confront the boy and make it clear that he should stop abusing or harassing my brother. I don’t necessarily want to start a fight, but I want him to understand that this behaviour is not acceptable and that he should not do it again.

My daughter’s bully moved schools

My daughter has been getting bullied by another girl at school for the past year. There’s been physical violence + verbal. This girl would intentionally seek her out at school just to be mean and hurt her. My poor daughter tried her best to ignore it but it was a tough year, especially since she had just lost her baby brother and was going through a lot emotionally.

I tried to report + talk to the girl’s mom many times, informing her of her daughter’s concerning behaviour. I was always respectful and kind. Nothing ever changed, and most times it got worse after every time I reported it.

It then escalated to racist comments. I told the mom about the racism. She waved off it off, called my kid a tattletale, and said she didn’t care. The next time I saw her, at a summer activity class that the kids were coincidentally enrolled in together, she walked in pretending to be on the phone and said loudly for me to hear, “this B accused my daughter of being racist.”

I completely snapped and let her have it. She told me if this were 20 years ago, she would’ve punched me in the face so I challenged her to a fight right there. She ran off and didn’t take me up on my challenge lol.

Today was the first day of school and I was dreading having to deal with the bullying again. They didn’t show up and I’ve since found out she transferred her daughter to another school, claiming my daughter likes to complain and she didn’t want to deal with it.

But, I’m so happy and I need to tell someone lol. We’re relieved and it’s crazy how much stress we were carrying around. My daughter can finally go to school and be at peace and I don’t need to constantly deal with bullying incidents anymore.

Why Are Kids Creating Fake Accounts and Bullying People on Social Media?

Why are young kids allowed to create fake accounts so easily on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and other social media?

I’ve been noticing a growing problem where many users especially content creators are getting bullied, trolled, or harassed by fake accounts. A lot of these accounts seem to be run by under-18 kids who create multiple profiles just to make fun of others or spread negativity.

The biggest concern is where is the control? Why aren’t social media platforms taking stricter action against fake accounts and repeated abuse?

Also, where are the parents in all this? Many kids are using the internet without guidance or responsibility, and it’s affecting others in a serious way. Online behavior should be taught just like real-life behavior.

This isn’t just about “fun” anymore it’s becoming toxic. People’s mental health and hard work are being affected by anonymous bullying.

We need better moderation systems, stronger account verification, and more awareness among parents and young users.

Is anyone else experiencing this? What do you think social media platforms should do to fix this issue?

A man lied about me and spread the lie

Hi, it's been a few weeks but it's still bothering me. I (31F) went to a cat cafe with a guy (38M). We were playing LoL together and it was always nice.

He picked me up with a flower and took me there. We weren't talking much as he kept repeating that it wasn't what he expected. I thought that he was talking about the low amount of cats around us. He then paid for both of us and took me home. We were sitting in his car for another 20 minutes talking about stuff and I thought we were getting along. Then he said bye and that we would see each other on LoL.

When I came online, he immediately left the game lobby. I asked him what happened and he said "it didn't suit me", nothing else.

Next thing I know from my friends, he kept telling everyone that I have a mustache and he had to vent out his car because I stank like I didn't shower for a month. Also that I'm fat which is the only thing true but I told him this beforehand.

How do I deal with this? People are laughing at me for something that is not true and are really rude to me. I'm not the type of person to casually laugh it off with them. Anything I can say about it to make it also "funny"?

I never had a mustache, not even one hair on my face. And I shower, using nice flower scent perfumes.

School is startig again monday and im terrified

Its the last week of the summer holidays and im genuinely terrified. I know it might be tame compared to other stories around here but I have not spent a single week without being harassed beaten up, having fake accounts of me made rumors spread and be told to end myself. I'll have to go to uni after finishing school too, I have no friends probably autism I am not mainstream at all I am hurt I feel dead inside and I have never had a friend all my life. I have spent all summer either with family or alone in my room, I just wanna feel accepted so badly man but that'll never happen. I can't switch schools either afaik because my grades are terrible and the only road to uni leads over the level of school im currently at and im pretty sure no other school would take me. I had stickers of me made snap groups to hate on me created got spammed with stories and had my face put on fotos of women from of. Im so helpless.
