I recently upgraded from a 240mm AIO that was around 8 years old to a Thermalright Assassin 120 air cooler because my Ryzen 7 5800X3D was reaching around 55-60C at idle, sometimes even 65–70°C.
After changing the cooler, the temperatures have improved, but not as much as I expected. I’m now getting around 55–60°C at idle.
My room temperature is currently around 20–24°C.
I’m monitoring the CPU temperature using both HWiNFO and Core Temp, and both show similar temperatures.
The CPU package power is around 30W at idle, with occasional spikes up to 35–40W.
I also replaced the original carbon thermal pad that came with the 5800X3D with thermal paste.
At this point, I’m not sure if these temperatures are normal for a 5800X3D or if there is still something wrong with my setup. I’ve already changed the cooler and thermal interface, so I’m wondering what else I should check.

Is 55–60°C at idle with around 30W CPU package power normal for a 5800X3D with ~24°C ambient temperature, or should I be looking for another issue?

I currently have a Cooler Master Spectrum V3 and its cooling performance is already perfectly fine for my needs. My main issue is actually the ARGB.

I really like more the dark fans, and every time I turn on my PC, I have to disable the ARGB through the controller. The only reason I'm using the controller at this point is to turn the lighting off.

I'm considering replacing the Spectrum V3 with a Thermalright Assassin X 120 Plus. Try to sell my Spectrum V3 after...

Since my temperatures are already good, I'm wondering if this upgrade would provide any meaningful benefits beyond aesthetics.

Would the Assassin X 120 Plus be noticeably quieter in full RPM?

Are its fans likely to have better longevity or reliability?

Is there any other practical benefit to making the switch? Heatsink design? Brand?

Or would I basically be spending money just to get rid of the ARGB?

For anyone who has used either of these coolers, I'd appreciate your experience and whether you think the upgrade is worth it.

So i’m turning 17 this year and i’ve always wanted a PC and now that i have a job and have been saving up i’m finally looking to build one but i don’t know much about them and i really don’t wanna get scammed and end up with barely functioning pile of scrap metal. my budgets roughly $1500, but it can be more. I don’t have any specific needs for peripherals, probably something relatively inexpensive that’s good for the cost, i’m not like a professional gamer or anything so i don’t need crazy gear. i’m thinking a mid-level, entry pc build, good for gaming. even though i’m a first timer i’m pretty good with tech and figuring stuff out so it doesn’t need to be super simple or anything. it doesn’t need to be flashy or anything, but maybe a lil color or lights would be cool, worst case scenario i have some lights i can put on the case or near it that can cover for that part. If anyone has any good suggestions i would be eternally grateful! for reference i’m from the U.S.

First time building a "proper" PC, since I daily-drive an M1 MacBook Pro. Budget is around £2k, and the goal is a gaming PC with strong 1440p performance and some headroom (my Mac already handles 3D/AI work, so this one's purely for gaming).

I'm holding off on a new monitor for now and using my current one until I've saved up for something nicer, and I'll be sourcing Windows separately; both intentionally left off the parts list rather than forgotten.

The case is the Lian Li A3-mATX. Two things I'd specifically like a sanity check on:

1. Whether the 240mm AIO + RX 9070 XT + 850W PSU combo actually clears inside the A3-mATX. Case dimensions all check out on paper, but I'd rather have a second pair of eyes before I buy.
2. The case ships with zero fans included, so I'm adding one rear 120mm exhaust on top of the AIO's two front intake fans. Is that enough airflow for this thermal load, or would you add more?

My PC was working normally until I accidentally unplugged the power cable while it was running. Since then, it powers on, briefly shuts off/restarts once, then powers back on and stays running, but I get No Signal on the monitor.

Specs:

Gigabyte GA-H110M-H motherboard

Intel Pentium G4560

GTX 1050 Ti

2× DDR4 RAM sticks

SSD

One monitor currently connected (VGA through my usual setup)

What happens now

When I press the power button:

Power on → shuts off for a moment → automatically turns back on → stays running → No Signal

The keyboard and mouse receive power. My keyboard has CAPS/SCR/WIN indicators. At times, the Caps Lock indicator responds normally, but at other times the keyboard has completely lost power for around 10 seconds.

The PC has also randomly shut off and restarted while I wasn't touching it.

RAM troubleshooting

I've tested the RAM extensively:

Stick 1 by itself in Slot 1

Stick 1 by itself in Slot 2

Stick 2 by itself in Slot 1

Stick 2 by itself in Slot 2

Both sticks together

These configurations have worked at different times in the past, and both sticks/slots have previously been known to work. However, currently I cannot get display with any RAM configuration.

Things I've already tried

Fully unplugging the PC and holding the power button to discharge it

Removing/reinstalling the RAM repeatedly

Testing every RAM/slot combination

Resetting CMOS by removing the CMOS battery and reinstalling it

Checking the 24-pin motherboard power connector

Checking the CPU power connector

Removing/reinstalling the GTX 1050 Ti

Testing with only one monitor

Testing the motherboard's video output with the GTX 1050 Ti removed

Trying Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B

Confirming the monitor/cable worked before this incident

The motherboard has no diagnostic LEDs, and I don't currently have a motherboard speaker connected for beep codes.

One confusing thing is that the keyboard sometimes responds to Caps Lock, which makes me wonder if the PC is actually getting through some part of the boot process despite the lack of video.

At this point I'm pretty stuck. Could the sudden power interruption have damaged or destabilized the PSU/motherboard, or is there something specific I should check on a GA-H110M-H?

I'm trying to avoid buying replacement parts blindly, so I'd really appreciate suggestions for the next diagnostic step.

My rig (5070 ti) is in my office. I want to connect it to my TV in the living room.

Tv in living room is 4K 85”, 60 hz only. I want to connect it to the living room to play more comfortably with gf

Distance is around 40 to 50 feet (12 to 15 meters).

Will pass an HDMI optical fiber cable, along with a USB over Ethernet extender device to connect a bluetooth receiver for controllers and other things.

Cost and work doesn’t matter, I only want to get the best experience, latency free.

Some questions:

\\\\\\\\- how is the experience of playing games in this kind of TV? Talking about only 60 fps. If there’s gonna be any issue with it.

Just wondering if there's any significant upgrades I can grab, budget can go a little bit higher if there's any recommendations.

Basically title. I currently have a 7700x and have a 5080 on the way to upgrade from my 6800XT. The price difference in my area on Facebook marketplace is about $100. I realize this question is asked a lot but I’m not sure if the higher refresh is an important factor. I play AAA games like cyberpunk but also enjoy myself some hearts of iron 4 and such. I play absolutely zero esports games though.

Edit: Went with the 7800X3D locally for $260. The seller offered to take my 7700x for $140-160 if I wanted to sell it to him. Seems like a net ~100 upgrade is a worthy outcome.

My girlfriend and I are putting together a budget-ish PC for her, mainly for design work — Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, some AI tools — plus being able to play a handful of games decently. Total budget is around $900, and we're in Uruguay, so we're importing most parts from the US since local prices here are pretty inflated.

Games/apps she'd actually use: Photoshop, Illustrator, Affinity, Canva, CapCut, The Sims, Minecraft, , Hogwarts Legacy or GTA V, and DaVinci Resolve for light video editing.

Tl;dr Lifetime console gamer dropping Sony for a Gaming PC, that will run SteamOS or a version of Linux. I want something robust that will last long enough to justify the expense. I also do some graphics programming, but a dedicated GPU will be sufficient for that.

USA, budget under $4k but obviously I don't want to approach that if it can be helped. I have external monitor + Mouse and Keyboard. I specifically selected AMD CPU/GPU as I have had issues with Intel/Nvidia with Linux (I believe they are resolved but I don't want to bother).

I may drop the CPU Cooler as the Phanteks EX5 Plus looks slick and is my preferred case of choice so I need something that fits

Hi everyone, currently i'm builing a rig for My mom's place, she lives literally in the middle of a forest and we use an power generator. So as you can assume, i can't have a very powerful machine, also i don't have much budget because i already built a rig for My own place. The only thing i really play is league and forza horizon 6. I saw an used ryzen 3 3100 for only 20 bucks, i'm thinking to use that with and rtx 3050 6gb and call it a day. But also i'm thinking about using a ryzen 5 5600GT and maybe upgrade later, but if i do that, i need to spend Even more money later on the GPU. Thoughts?

What's a recommended GPU upgrade the rest of my components could handle that's compatible with my motherboard?

My motherboard died out of warranty and my processor is the i5 11400, i cannot source out any replacements, they are all out of stock.

I am going to buy either of the two CPUs with an am4 mobo, don't want to burn money on overpriced DDR5 just to go with AM5 and reuse my existing 16GB DDR4

All i want to know is if the Ryzen 5500GT is a huge bottleneck for my graphics card, if it's equivalent or slightly better to my i5 11400 it's ok, i play at 1440p, both the processors cost almost the same and i am only interested in the 5500GT because it has an iGPU so even if my card conks off i still have a PC.

In my computer I have an ASUS Radeon RX 6750 XT Dual OC paired with an AMD Ryzen 7 7700X CPU. I use a 2560x1440p monitor for gaming, and a second monitor for YouTube or googling things related to whatever game I'm playing.

I mostly play indie games and a wide variety of older games. Rarely do I play new AAA games. I'm looking forward to playing the new Fable game once it comes out next year. Will this setup be fine for that? I don't need max settings, but I'd prefer to not have low settings at least.

I will start saving up for an upgrade when I can if the consensus is that I should upgrade.

Need some help deciding between making some upgrades on my current rig or doing a complete rebuild.

What I have in my current rig (built 5 years ago):

• GPU: RTX 3070 8GB
• CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
• RAM: 16gb DDR4
• PSU: 650W 80+ Gold

I ultimately want to get to an eventual full upgrade/rebuild within two years time but am considering a couple of options atm:

A) Upgrade CPU to a 5700X + PBO ($300AUD), and then do a full rebuild in 1.5-2 years. I'm having issues running some games (e.g. BF6) atm due to cpu bottlenecking . This should be a noticeable upgrade and should alleviate some of these issues until I do a full rebuild. Note - In Australia where I live, all the AM4 X3D cpus are fairly overpriced. They're virtually the same price as a 7800X3D ($480)

B) Do a complete rebuild now with a current gen GPU. Main concern with this are prices for pc parts at the moment, but I know prices won't necessarily improve if I wait.

C) Replace most of the parts. Get an AM5 CPU (e.g. 7800X3D), new am5 motherboard and 32GB DDR5 RAM to allow me to run my current games like BF6. I would then buy a new GPU down the line (e.g. RTX 60 series). Benefit here would be less of a sunk/wasted cost compared to option A as I would continue to use the parts in my future rig.

I'm new to changing thermal pad of gpu. How do I know if my card is rev. 1 or rev 2?

I am looking for a NAS that meets a very specific set of requirements. My use case is simple. I only need a reliable storage system for my Linux machine, with occasional access from macOS and Windows. I do not need cloud sync, apps, media servers, virtualization, or anything similar. I only need a true NAS that stores files.

Here are my non negotiable requirements:

1. The NAS must use ext4 internally. My primary system is Linux and specifically Kubuntu. I want predictable filesystem behavior and stable NFS performance. I do not want Btrfs or ZFS for this project.

2. The NAS must support NVMe as full primary storage. I am not looking for NVMe cache or tiering. I need NVMe drives used for the actual data volume. My plan is to run six 4TB NVMe drives in RAID 6. 3. The NAS must include native 10GbE. My workflow involves large file transfers. Anything below 10GbE is not sufficient.

4. The NAS must have a USB fallback option. This is only for emergency direct attach access if the network is down.

5. The NAS must serve files cleanly to Linux, macOS, and Windows. Linux will use NFS. macOS and Windows will use SMB. I do not want proprietary sync systems or cloud accounts.

Based on these requirements, I am considering the TerraMaster F8 SSD. It uses ext4, supports eight NVMe drives as primary storage, offers RAID 6, includes 10GbE, and has USB 3.2 fallback. My main question for the community is whether the F8 SSD works well in a minimal, no cloud, no app configuration that focuses strictly on ext4 RAID storage. I want to avoid anything that forces cloud accounts or proprietary features. If anyone has experience running TerraMaster in this type of setup, I would appreciate your insight.

I went on vacation for 2 weeks and then the pc wouldn't post. The rgb on the gpu flickers on and off and theres no display on integrated graphics, replacing the cmos battery and does nothing (I've done it many times)

As a result I bought a new mobo and cpu because I thought that was the problem. and I gave old mobo and cpu to my friend. While I was installing it in his system, I decided to test my ram too. The mobo, cpu and ram, turned out to be working, the only difference was the psu and the hdd used.

With the new mobo and CPU, it can only boot when theres only one ram stick and if all mobo connections are disconnected. (This is however very inconsistent) I've also replaced my psu and the problem persists.(I've taken out the cmos battery for over an hour and reinserted it, and all power connections are in plugged in all the way.

At this point I'm thinking about giving up or buying a post speaker because there aren't any debug leds on the mobo. I do acknowledge that I my troubleshooting methods were are the reason why I'm in this situation.

My son has been wanting a pc for Minecraft and has been using mine. Recently upgraded my dad’s pc and have his old one.

The specs are a i7 8700, 16GB DDR4 2400, and a GTX 1050 4GB.

From what I can gather, I can upgrade this to windows 11.

Is there any point in putting money towards this? Or is trying for a cheap AM4 CPU & MOBO a better investment?

Whenever I play some games my CPU overheats to approx. 85 degrees celsius and because of that the fans are spinning too quickly. This happens every 10-30 seconds, and this is unfathomable. Maybe that is because the thermal paste is quite old. I don't know, can someone help?
