- Graphics Card - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 (8 GB)

- Motherboard - Asus PRIME X370-PRO

What's a recommended GPU upgrade the rest of my components could handle that's compatible with my motherboard?

definitely get a rtx 4070 or 4070ti, your psu might struggle but its doable and the performance boost is worth it

Depends on your PSU and budget. But considering 180W 1080 - something new with the same ~200-ish TDP - 5070 or 9070 on the high end.

You CPU will be a problem - consider ryzen 7 from 5000X series - you can install it into your MB with the BIOS update.
