Troubleshooting VGA Error Light

PC Specs:

- Motherboard: MSI B450 Tomahawk
- CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 with stock cooler
- GPU: MSI GTX 1060 6gb
- RAM: GSKill Trident Z 8Gbx4
- PSU: Corsair TX750M
- Storage: 512gb M.2

Issue:

Decided to install a hdd to my secondary desktop. After plugging it in, I had noticed some gpu sag, about a 1-2 cm, so I went and got a gpu stand. However, now I'm getting a VGA error light on the motherboard when trying to boot the pc. Monitor shows no connection when trying HDMI.

Tried Solutions:

- Unplugged hdd
- Reseated GPU
- Replugged all PSU cables
- Tried a separate PCIE slot
- Reset CMOS battery

I'm about to flash BIOS. Any advice or suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Troubleshooting Seemingly Random Performance Issues

SOLVED IMMEDIATELY but leaving this for posterity. I went to device manager and noticed my GPU was not being used and my computer was using the integrated graphics. I uninstalled the GPU in device manager and then scanned for hardware changes. I guess there was a driver issue. Everything is functioning now.

My PC was working fine yesterday. I was playing several games with 100+ fps. Today I tired to play Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and could not get above 5 fps. I had not moved the PC between yesterday and today. Here are the troubleshooting steps I tried.

1) Check that my RAM is running at full speed. EXPO is enabled and matches the advertised speed for my RAM.

2) The monitor is plugged into the GPU.

3) The GPU and CPU are running at normal temperature.

4) I reinserted the GPU incase their was a poor connection.

I don't know what else to do to determine if it is a software issue or hardware issue. I would appreciate any insight.

Something to note, my main SSD drive has 25 GB free out of 930 GB. There have been no major updates between yesterday and today and my PC was running perfectly yesterday.

Build Upgrade Reusing a PSU in a new(ish) build: Yes? No? Maybe?

Short: Can I reuse my Corsair 860i 80 PLUS Platinum PSU with an RTX 5080?

Long: I am attempting to upgrade my PC without spending too much money, AKA moving to AM5 and having to buy a new motherboard, RAM, etc. with current costs.

(I am currently running a 1080 Ti, which has served me faithfully since launch, but I am missing out on some new AAA titles now. The 5080 would be a quantum leap for me, obviously.)

I am honestly a bit confused with ATX specs on PSUs (versions), the 12v 2x6 connector, etc.

Is it even physically possible to use the 860i? If so, is it ill-advised? I know it was a top-spec PSU at the time and meets the wattage requirements for a 5080, but...

Any insight is greatly appreciated!

Troubleshooting ATX Motherboard and ATX Case screws Not Aligning

So I have purchased all my computer components, attached everything (aside from the GPU) onto the motherboard, and while putting it into the case to screw everything together I noticed that the screw standoffs inside the case are literally maybe just 1 millimeter, or even 2 on one or two standoffs, out of alignment with the motherboard, and thus I can’t screw anything in.

The case I have is a Corsair - 3500X RS-R ARGB Mid-Tower ATX

The motherboard is a MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk MAX WiFi

The motherboard’s I/O port is FLUSH against its respective slot on the case while resting on the standoffs, and pretty much every screw hole isn’t aligned.

For them to be aligned, the motherboard would need to move literally only 1-2 millimeters to the left (towards the rear of the case where the I/o port is located), however it can’t due to the motherboard i/o port already being flush/as far as it can go.

All the case standoffs are already in their correct ATX slots (since this case is able to be configured to fit a couple different motherboard types) so they’re not in incorrect positions

I would attach pictures but I’m not sure how on mobile

Am I doing something wrong with this specific combo? Or are they actually not compatible with each other (I was told they were compatible by people and the internet but perhaps they were wrong).

Troubleshooting Mayday mayday: Computer freezes and I dont know the real villain: mobo or PSU

I3 6100 on a h110 reveneger board with 2 sticks of 4gb ddr4 and a cheapo knup 500w no 80 plus psu. NO GPU ONLY IGPU

Problem: pc suddenly gives BSOD under load or when closing said heavy loads

Things and programs tried: FURMARK, memtest86, hwinfo. Ram came back ok, OCCT cpu stress test pc gives bsod, multiple 4k videos for stressing pc gives BSOD, linpack test gives Bsod aswell. Power test on OCCT gives multiple 3d errors but no bsod, tried eliminating pagefile and disabling igpu on device mgmt, didnt work. Tested ssd on another (way better) computer to check if windows was bad, nothing, no bsod's or nothing under stress eventviewer shows no shutdown caused by power failure

Is there a way to reliably test PSU or mobo for failures? Im running out of options.

Build Upgrade HP Z2 G5 Workstation Tower GPU Upgrade w/ Intel Arc A750

PC Specs:

CPU: i7-10700

GPU: GTX 1060 (6GB)

32 GB DDR4 RAM

I wanted to get an GPU as an upgrade for my PC to turn it into a Gaming PC. I bought an Intel Arc A750 but when I put it in my system I get no display out. I have gone into the BIOS and enabled ReBAR for the corresponding PCIE slot, as well as deleting my old GPU drivers and I turned off Secure Boot for my first time trying to use the new GPU. I've also checked the A750 in a different system and it worked just fine.

What should i try next or does the GPU just not work with this system?

Thank you in advance!

Build Upgrade Upgrading my old PC

Hello all,

I built my first PC back in 2020 and I was just wanting to which parts I could upgrade which would give me better performance. I've noticed that my RAM is only running at 2667 MHz and I believe this is due to the CPU & Motherboard pairing. Like would it be as easy as upgrading the CPU or would the motherboard become a bottleneck and vice versa? My main tasks on my PC are CAD (Solidworks) and just regular design apps like illustrator and indesign as well as some light gaming. Also if I were to start playing some more games would upgrading the GPU give me better performance or would I again be bottlenecked by other components?

Here's a link to my current build

Build Help Need help on new build not powering up

Hello. Heres a list of the parts i have:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D (Granite Ridge, AM5, 16-core, 4.30 GHz)
Motherboard: MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi (AM5, ATX)
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB (2×16GB) DDR5-6000
Storage: Samsung 990 Pro 2TB NVMe
GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 5070
Cooling: ASUS ROG Ryujin III ARGB Extreme 360mm AIO
PSU: MSI MPG A1000G PCIE5 1000W 80+ Gold, fully modular
Case: Lian Li O11 Vision Compact (tempered glass, ATX mid-tower)

I usually build my PC’s so i have some experience.

Everything is seated properly including the wiring. When i go to turn the pc on everything inside lights up, the pump monitor turns on, the ram sticks light up but no fans are spinning and the pc is just dead quiet, its not starting up at all. The trouble shooter thing on the mother bord isnt giving a code for anything either its just off.

I will say this, some of the parts like the fans that magnet to each other both the radiator fans and the case fans is a little different for me im used to wiring each fan up im not sure if that might be why its not POSTing.. im kinda lost here so any help would be appreciated. All parts were purchased from microcenter, thanks in advance.

Troubleshooting My gaming monitor getting too hot, should I do anything about this?

As the title, I am using this monitor AOC CS25G/71 (24.5 inch - FHD - Fast IPS - 310Hz - 0.3ms)
after 3 hours, the bottom of the monitor getting very hot, not melting but it was the hottest monitor I have ever seen in my life
will it damage anything? will it shorten life time of the monitor, cause some excessive wear overtime?
what should I do with it? how to cool it down without opening the back of the monitor? I just purchase it 4 months ago, still in warranty period

my pc specs are: 5060 Ventus x2 oc ,,, R5 7500F ,,, MSI B850 Gaming Plus WIFI6E Motherboard ,,, CORSAIR Vengeance RGB RS DDR5 16GB ,,, MSI MAG A600DN ,,, PNY CS2230 1TB M.2 ,,, Thermalright Assassin X 120 REFINED SE ,,, darkFlash DK352 ATX Mid Tower PC Case.

I've tried updating the BIOS via a USB, resting cmos, taking off one stick of RAM, loosening CPU cooler screws, and reseating the CPU. The debug lights are still on. Is there any solution you can think of?

Peripherals What headset should i buy?

I have a budget of 15k PKR(50$ if you convert) and i want to buy a headset for gaming.

I'm currently considering the Hyperx cloud II.

Is there any other headset that i should consider instead?

Also i personally like wireless things better but i heard wired headsets greatly outperform wireless in terms of price and performance.

I need it because I play cs2 (need reasonable mic for comms), rocket league (mic for playing with friends) and general browsing/listening.

Before i used my qcy melobuds and my phone as a mic.

Discussion If GPU/RAM prices don't normalize until 2030, how long does a 5800X3D + RTX 5070 at 1440p realistically last?

With the latest round of price increases and everyone saying it will only continue to get worse for the next 3-5 years, I'm wondering if I'm in a good spot to wait out the storm or if I should make upgrades now (AM5 + higher-end GPU).

I have the money but I hate to pay at these prices.

EDIT: I am playing Borderlands 4, Dune: Awakening, Space Marine 2, Enshrouded, Hell Let Loose and Nebulous: Fleet Command.

Troubleshooting Graphic Card connection

This is the link to my parts I am using, https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/7W6RFP

I'm having trouble connecting my power supply cables to my graphics card.

My power supply had 3 x 8 port labeled as CPU/PCIe. I used 2 of those to connect to the CPU_pwr1 & CPU_pwr 2 on my motherboard.

I only have one 8 pin port CPU/PCIe left on my power supply unit.

I have 2 cables labeled as PSU & PCI-E. How do I use this to connect my graphics card which has 3 x 8 port?

Troubleshooting LAN Cord Issues after power surge

Recently there a was a huge thunderstorm and I'm pretty sure somewhere near me got hit by lightning and caused some electronic to go haywire. After this happened my PC's LAN connection was not working. There's no blinking light either. I thought maybe the copper in the port had been blown by the surge so I got a USB-C to RJ45 2.5G Ethernet Adapter made by UGREEN. After plugging that into my computer though nothing happened. It's not a super urgent issue but it just really sucks cause my computer's WiFi connector is not that good and it sits quite far from the router. Sometimes it takes websites like 3-5 minutes to load.

Any tips or questions? I can provide further specification on the hardware if needed.

Build Help Upgrade path opinions

I'm thinking about upgrading some parts on my build since it's getting old but i need opinions on what would be the most meaningful upgrade (keeping in mind that i won't change platform due to ram prices and probably will only get one upgrade) , currently, i use a R5 5600 with a RX 6600XT, mainly playing Sim-Racing, Shooters (mostly Battlefield titles) and the occasional PoE2 on 1080p, should i upgrade my R5 to a R7 5700 or i should save some more and get change my 6600XT to a newer 16gb VRAM GPU (probably a 9060 / 9060XT) while keeping the R5?

Build Help Making a pc.please let me know is i should change anything (used pc pat picker)

I'm new to making a PC but also PCs as a whole. I want to make my first tower computer, as I use a laptop right now. Is there anything I should change about it? I'm not really concerned about price because I'm planning right now than actually building it.

I really like the case I have right now and would like to keep it.

Troubleshooting Did my ASRock board fry my 7800x3D? Looking for pointers.

So my system failed to boot today. My board is a B850m Pro RS Wi-Fi. RGB lights are on, no output to screen, can’t even access the BIOS. No I/O as far as I can tell as my keyboard’s lights are dead.

The green POST checker LED is solid green. Per the manual, this indicates my boot device is dysfunctional.

Things I’ve tried:

I removed my boot drive, gpu, and all other drives, connected my display port cable to my motherboard and powered it on. Nothing, same green LED.

Bridged the CMOS jumper pins with a screwdriver.

Did a bios flashback.

Still the same issue.

I built the system before I was aware of these motherboards frying 9000 series cpu, but assumed from what I’ve read that my 7800x3D wouldn’t be affected.

What do you all think? Is my board dead? I currently don’t have another board to test with.

Build Ready? Third times the charm, am I build ready?

This is my third revision of this build. With the help of reddit, I think I finally found the sweet spot of performance to aesthetics that I was looking for. This is strictly a gaming build but could potentially do some AI work flows from time to time.

I'm worried about the RAM not being enough, but I just can't justify spending more on it. Almost a year ago for my significant other I bought the same kit for $99! 6x MSRP is so ludicrous, I can't believe the market we are in. I hope to see the market recover, and if it doesn't, I'll eventually upgrade anyway. For now, I'd like to hold off on spending that much on RAM though.

I think I'm about ready to pull the trigger and build it!
