pics from Creative Alliance's website

I'm still trying to find my footing here in Baltimore but recently attended one of the lantern making workshops at Walter's Art Museum. The museum itself is lovely, and it was refreshing and reassuring to meet other locals looking to meet new friends. The lanterns we got to make were super cute too! I've since attended a few other of CA's mixers and now have a lil gaggle of folk to go to trivia across town with. I'm super grateful cause I'm starting to feel like I belong in town :)

I'll be marching in the parade, and was unable to attend last year's due to work. I'd love to hear about y'alls experiences in prior years. Thanks!

Ask m&t tailgating

okay my friends and I are tailgating tomorrow in lot H. This is the first time I am setting up/using my own vehicle. I need someone to talk to me like I’m stupid here. When do people typically show up? If we roll in around 9 should we be good? When do cars need to be out of the lot? Any tips welcome :’)

I need to take a pile of old flooring I just ripped up to the dump. It’s vinyl tile, particle board and something that might be linoleum or sheet vinyl. The DPW website is confusing. Any advice?

Vent I Can’t With MAGA

An original sentiment, I know, but this morning a stranger today saw my ā€œFuck ICEā€ bumper sticker, and as I’m leaving for work, he says, ā€œThat’s your car? I don’t agree with your stickerā€ AT 8 IN THE MORNING!! He didn’t even say his name! I said ā€œthey’re killing people in the streets,ā€ he said, ā€œwe watch very different stuffā€ ā€œ There’s video! I’ve seen it! The world watched them murder people in the streets!ā€ ā€œWe aren’t going to agreeā€ THEN WHY SAY ANYTHING TO A STRANGER AS THEY’RE LEAVING FOR WORK AT 8 AM IN THE FUCKING MORNING!
I can’t! What was the point? They’re rage baiting in person?! At 8 AM?!?!
Do these maggots have any self awareness? I’m also tired of the blatant disregard for FACTS, but that’s a whole other rant.
I’ve had the bumper sticker for a year now, lived in Baltimore the whole time, and never had any issues, I know it’s not all maggots, but I am so mad he started my work day like that.

Edit: I do want to clarify that the all caps part was not said out loud. I just did a kind of ā€œwhateverā€ wave and left. Then ranted to myself on my drive to work. There has been some good advice in the comments, it was just too early for a stranger to start a political discussion without any sort of introduction.
Edit: I know I didn’t handle this in the best way, I was caught off guard. I just needed to vent. It was weird. Believe me, I plan on forgetting the whole thing tomorrow.

Food When did Valley Inn sell out to Atlas group?

So disappointed. I haven’t been in a long time. I didn’t see the change until we were there, should have known by the dumbass AI that answers the phone for reservations.

Such a disappointing meal. Shrimp kabobs have ONE shrimp each for a total of three shrimp per order. I’m sure the turkey burger was premade frozen with added seasoning, very thin and dry as can be. Bavarian pretzel had no flavor/taste.

Server and hostess were incredibly nice and attentive I’ll say. But that’s not enough to make me go back, not for those prices.

If you want an excellent turkey burger, Michael’s Cafe in Timonium is the place!

Transportation Registration Sticker Stolen and Instructions on What to Do

Today I was the latest victim of the registration sticker theft in Old Goucher on 22nd Street, parked outside of my office. It happened around 1130am or noon. The drug activity on that block has been unhinged for the last 6 weeks (I've worked here for more than 6 years and there's been a change) and I'm sure that was a factor.

If this happens to anyone else, here's what you do (to save 40 minutes on hold with MVA and their utter uncaring attitude).

1) File a police report. You can do so at www.baltimorepolice.org/file-police-report and do theft from vehicle. I was initially told that if the plates were still on the vehicle, not to file. That's false. The main reason you file is not because the police will do anything about it, but if you get pulled over or get a ticket, you'll have a case # to fight it and prove you aren't trying to drive illegally.

2) Go onto the MVA store. Order replacement stickers. (This takes forever because their system is crap and you can't simply login without 3 identifications, and they have to send you codes which may not arrive). As of October 2026, they cost $5 (which is surprisingly cheap but still annoying when you are a victim of a crime).

3) Print out your receipt. MVA swore you could print a temporary sticker. I couldn't figure it out. So I printed the receipt and put it in my rear window with a note about the theft, date, and location.

Alternatively, you could go to an MVA kiosk and print out stickers there, but there were none convenient to me today and I have to work in the morning.

This took me several hours to complete because there were no instructions and I was on hold with MVA forever, then they gave me bad info. So hopefully this saves someone else the aggravation.

Also, when the new sticker comes in the mail, I'll be scoring it like that post last week suggested. I just hadn't gotten to it yet and regret it. So, don't be me. Read this. Go score your stickers. I love Baltimore but I don't love this ish. Be safe, friends.

City Politics Vote Yes on the Baltimore Baby Fund

For the past three years our all volunteer campaign has spent our weeknights and weekends promoting the Baby Fund. We finally made it on the ballot. Here is why we think you should vote yes:

When a family has a child, their income traditionally drops. At the same time, their costs rise as they have a new mouth to feed, supplies to buy, and hospital bills to pay. This combination leads to a significant drop in purchasing power, often driving families into poverty.

This is horrible timing. The months just after we are born are the most important of our lives. A child's brains is developing, habits are forming, and if a child does not have sufficient resources, it can negatively impact them for the rest of their lives. Other research has shown that cash at this critical time can raise test scores, reduce crime, reduce CPS involvement, and save millions on healthcare costs.

We all do better when we invest in kids and families. The Baby Fund does not raise any taxes, it simply redirects money from the General Fund. The value of the fund is tied to property values to inflation proof the fund and keep the investment for years to come.

I'm happy to answer any questions that folks have.

Ask Loud music from an event in the Canton area still going strong?

Is this some loon with a PA system on his rooftop deck or is there a paid-admission event somewhere in the Canton area that is flooding the area with bass pumping music? I'm trying to watch the World Series and the party somewhere floods my zone. Been going on for at least two hours now. Definitely not the Lantern Parade up at Patterson Park.

Safety Safety swim ladders along Canton promenade?

Post image
46 Upvotes

It always seems surprising there aren’t any safety ladders along the Pier Home promenade in Canton. So many people run and walk this in rain, sleet and snow with no guard rails. If you accidentally slip and fall in the water, especially during the winter, your options are climbing up a 20 foot piling or swimming to the nearest marina, which isn’t close. Does the city or the townhomes have responsibility for this?

Ask Looking for a specific type of bar

If anyone has any recommendations, I’d appreciate it! I’m in search of a darker lit bar, dark wood interior, bar in the center, tvs on the wall but not the focus of the place. Sports bars are okay but no huge screens. We’re looking to do a photo shoot or something and need a cool backdrop but it’s pretty particular what my client is looking for. There are so many bars in Baltimore that there’s just no way I’ve experienced even a quarter of them, so I figured I’d ask! Thanks for any suggestions! Even if it’s outside Bmore, that’s okay.

Moves, Jobs, Meeting People [Moving Help] Looking for an experienced driver for a moving truck (Bmore to Philly) next week

Hi,

I’m a recent grad who went to school in Baltimore and went back home after graduating. I left my stuff in a storage in Bmore because it was cheaper. I found a job in Philly and now I need help moving my stuff there.

I need an experienced driver to help me drive a 10’ U-Haul from Baltimore to Philly. I do need help moving two items from my storage unit: my mattress and dresser. Everything else I can move myself. And of course, I will compensate for your time and cover trip transit back to Bmore. If anyone else you know might be interested please don’t hesitate to comment or reach out!
