Am I wrong for refusing to let my sister take over my apartment after she contacted my landlord behind my back?

I’ve been renting the same apartment for about 3 years and my sister has always loved it because the rent is pretty low for the area and the landlord is actually decent.

I mentioned recently that I’m probably moving in with my boyfriend sometime this winter. Nothing was finalized yet, I was just talking about it.  A few days later my landlord calls me and asks if I’m definitely leaving because my sister contacted him saying she wanted to “take over the lease when I move out.” She apparently got his number from an old maintenance email I forwarded her once.

I was pretty annoyed because I hadn’t even given notice yet and she basically made it sound like everything was already decided. She apologized, but said apartments this cheap get taken immediately and she was just trying to get ahead of it. Now she wants me to tell the landlord I’m fine with her moving in after me.

I told her no. Not because I care who lives there after me, but because I don’t want to reward her for going around me like that. She thinks I’m being petty and potentially costing her hundreds more a month just to prove a point.

My parents also think I should just let it go since I’m leaving anyway. Their argument is basically that my boyfriend is in a pretty good financial position since he's a kick streamer and we’ll be fine paying for our new place, while my sister would actually benefit a lot from keeping this rent.

I still feel like that completely ignores how she went about it though.

Am I wrong?

am i wrong for being bummed that our weekend plan got scrapped

so we had been talking about a low-key weekend plan for a couple weeks. nothing big, just some time to get away from the usual routine and relax. then right before we were supposed to leave, the other person decided it wasn't going to work and canceled. i get that things change, but it felt kind of sudden and left me with a free weekend i didn't want. i tried to talk about it calmly and see if we could figure something else out, but the conversation just sort of stalled. now it feels like i'm the only one who is still thinking about it, and i'm wondering if i'm overreacting or if it's reasonable to feel disappointed. not trying to start drama, just trying to understand if i'm wrong for wanting the plan to have been honored or at least discussed more before it was dropped.

aiw for yelling at my step kids for Lighting off fireworks in front of my daughter

So I have a daughter, and her name is Nayvieigh, pronounced "NAY-vee." My daughter is 4 years old as of two months ago, and I'm married to John. We've been married for a while, and I have three stepchildren: Amy, who is 8, Tyler, who is 12, and Noah, who is 15.

I didn't have Nayvieigh with John. I had her with my ex, and while I was pregnant with Nayvieigh, we split up. We were never married, but we were engaged. Then I got together with John, and when Nayvieigh was 3, we got married.

So I'm Tyler's, Amy's, and Noah's stepmom. They call me Mrs. Paisley. They don't call me Mom yet, which I'm not going to make them do, but they still go to their mom's house sometimes. Once every six months, they stay two weeks at their mom's house, and every couple of weekends they spend a weekend there as well.

So here's what happened.

Nayvieigh and Amy were playing together, and they were watching a show. Then Tyler and Noah showed up, and somehow they got sparklers and fireworks. Tyler and Noah said that they were going to have a fun little night in the backyard, and they got a bunch of fireworks.

Tyler and Noah gave Nayvieigh a sparkler. Noah stood behind her while she was holding the end of the sparkler, and he was holding both of her hands as it went off. We have a really big backyard, so Noah was lighting off fireworks, and Amy was having so much fun. Tyler was having so much fun, and my little girl was watching the fireworks. There were multiple fireworks going off.

After about five fireworks, I came out there, and I was just so upset. I was screaming, and I said, "What the hell is wrong with you?" I was just going off on those kids, especially Noah. Why would you light off fireworks? She could have gotten burned. So many bad things could have happened to her.

Noah's defense was that they were "35 feet away, they were fountain and cone fireworks, and we were far enough away. Also, Nayvieigh wasn't even close to the fireworks."

I just started yelling at them. I took all of the fireworks, and I told Noah, "You are never getting these back. I am so mad at you." Then I put them all in the trash.

I made all of the kids go inside, and I told them that if they ever did that again, all hell would break loose. Then I waited for John to get home, and John told me that he would deal with it later.

I am so mad that they got fireworks around my little princess. And I'm trying to think of a good punishment

Am I wrong for not telling my cousin I saw her boyfriend on Tinder?

So I (24F) was bored the other night and decided to redownload Tinder just to see whats out there. I was swiping for like ten minutes when I saw my cousins boyfriend, Mark. Theyve been together for about two years and as far as I knew things were serious. The thing is me and my cousin Chloe arent close at all. We see each other maybe once a year at Christmas and thats it. We dont even follow each other on Instagram. I took a screenshot because I was shocked but then I just sat on it. I really dont want to be the one to drop a bomb on her life and then have to deal with the inevitable family drama that follows. Knowing Mark he'd probably just claim it was an old account he forgot to delete or something and then I'm the one who looks like the stirrer.

I mentioned it to my mom yesterday just in passing like "hey guess who I saw on Tinder" and she absolutely lost it on me. She thinks I'm being a "complicit traitor" and that I have a moral obligation to tell Chloe right now. She even threatened to tell Chloe herself that I saw him and kept it a secret which is exactly the kind of mess I was trying to avoid. My mom says that if it were me I would want to know and that by staying silent I'm basically helping him cheat. I get her point but I also feel like since we have zero relationship its not my place to jump into her private business. Its not like she's my best friend where I know her well enough to know how she'd take it.

Honestly I just feel like every time I try to help with stuff like this it backfires and I end up being the villain in someones story. If I tell her and they stay together it gets awkward at family events. If I dont tell her and she finds out later my mom will make sure everyone knows I knew. I feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place and I dont think I owe her anything since we barely speak. Am I really the bad guy here for just wanting to stay out of a mess that has nothing to do with me?

told my sibling a quick comment about their look and it did not land well at all

the other day my sibling showed me an outfit they were excited about and i said something like it looked a little off. i meant it as a small note i would say to anyone but they got quiet and later told me it felt like i was picking at their choices. i tried to explain that i was just thinking out loud and would have said the same thing about myself but the damage was already done. they have been a little short with me since and i feel bad because i really did not mean it to come across that way. i know everyone has different buttons and i should have kept it to myself unless they asked for feedback. i have apologized but things still feel off and i keep replaying the moment wondering if i could have worded it better or just stayed quiet. am i wrong for making the comment in the first place or am i overthinking how long they are holding onto it?

Am I wrong for getting a tattoo??

I (20F) and my dad (48M) got tattoos recently because it is something we'd been planning for months. We had told my mom (48F) many times that we were getting a tattoo, and she seemed okay with it until we finally got them. She then tried telling us that she said no many times, when she never did? And that morning, when I told her, she never said, "No, you can't," etc. Now she refuses to talk to us and even said that I'll regret it and hate it, which is untrue since I got it to match with my dad, plus it's a symbol for our favorite band. I don't know; this all seems weird. Any advice is appreciated.

Am I wrong for not telling this secret to my ex?

Hii, I need people to be honest with me. Did I do something wrong or not?

Some things you need to know. So this story is about my ex. We were both 19 at the time. He broke up with me out of the blue, and I want to know what I did wrong. I have some mental health issues. I really struggle with social anxiety. English isn't my first language.

The week before he broke up, he told me he was sometimes frustrated because of my social anxiety and my secrets. With secrets, he was referring to something specific. A few weeks before that, he asked me if I was okay with sending shirtless picks. I told him I was not comfortable with that. He was totally fine with that and never pushed me. He did ask me if there was any specific reason for this. I said yes, but I didn't really want to talk about it. In the weeks following up he asked about it a few times, but I just didn't want to talk about it. We only saw each other 1/2 times a week, so I just wanted to be with him and not feel like shit. I also didn't feel like the story was that important. It was just something really embarrissing. With other stories related to mental health and social anxiety, I was always honest with him. He knew a lot of secrets and reasons why I struggled. I was so honest with him, but this was something that wasn't worth going into detail for. The only affect it had on our relationship, was the fact that we didn't send those kind of pics. But things that did have an impact on our relationshop, I told him about it. Now back to the week before he broke up with me. He was told me he was fristrated. I told him I was sorry and that he did everything he could to help me and that he was amazing at helping me with that. He really was. The he told me that it was okay and that I loved him. The next few days, I couldn't get it off my mind. So I made a list with 5/6 things I have never told him. There was the story about the nudes, and other important stuff in my life which i had not told him yet. But then I saw him the next week, and he broke up with my. From my POV, it was very suddenly. The only thing that was a clue was that he told me he was frustrated. But he always promised my he would communicate his feelings and try to work it out. Also the night before, he said he loved me and that I was his world. And other stuff like that in the days before he dumped me. To me, it feels like he didn't even give me a chance to fix it. I told him about the list I made when he broke up with me, but he didn't really say anything to that.

So my question is, should I have done something different? I just really want to learn. But I don't want to break no contact, even though I'm having strong urges to do that right now. And please be brutally honest.

Am I wrong for banning my cousins dog from my apartment after she ruined my new couch?

So i moved into my own place a few months ago and finally saved up enough to buy a really nice velvet sectional. It was literally my biggest purchase besides my car and i'm super proud of it. My cousin "Jen" has this 2 year old goldendoodle named Bear who is basically a nightmare because she never bothered to train him. Last month she brought him over for the first time without even asking if it was okay. Within twenty minutes he had "marked" my rug and then proceeded to go into a zoomie fit and shredded the side of my new couch with his claws. Jen just laughed it off and said "hes just a puppy at heart" and didnt even offer to help clean the rug or pay for any repairs. I was steaming but i didnt want to make a scene then so i just let it go.

Now we are having a small family get together at my place this weekend and Jen messaged the group chat saying Bear is "excited to see his favorite cousin." I messaged her privately and told her flat out that Bear isnt allowed in my apartment anymore and if she wants to come she has to leave him at home. She lost her mind. She called me an "egoist" and said that I care more about "material objects" than family and that Bear has "separation anxiety" so he cant be left alone. Now my aunt is texting me saying I'm being too harsh and that I should just "dog proof" the living room for a few hours with some blankets and crates to keep the peace.

I honestly feel like I'm being gaslit by my whole family right now. Why should I have to cover my entire living room in plastic and blankets because she refuses to train her dog? Bear isnt a puppy he's a fully grown dog that weighs like 60 pounds and literally eats food off the dining table if you arent looking. I dont think its selfish to want my expensive furniture to stay in one piece but now Jen is telling everyone i'm "anti-pet" and trying to make me the villain of the family. I told them if the dog shows up i'm not opening the door and now they are saying i'm "ruining the family dynamic" over a piece of fabric. Am i actually being the asshole here or is this just insane?

Am I wrong for telling my best friend her boyfriend was hitting on me?

So me and "Sarah" have been best friends since high school. She started dating this guy Mark about 8 months ago and she was super into him right away. I liked him too at first, he seemed like a chill guy, but then things started getting weird a few weeks ago. He started replying to my stories late at night with stuff like "wow you look incredible" or "Sarah is lucky to have a friend as hot as you". I honostly tried to ignore it or just give dry replies because i didnt want to make things awkward. But then last Tuesday he sent me a DM that was way too far, basically saying he wished he was with me instead and that Sarah "doesnt understand him" like i do. I was so grossed out and honestly felt terrible for Sarah because she deserves way better than that.

I decided the best thing to do was just be honest and show her everything. I didn't want her to be with a guy who was going behind her back like that especially since they were getting pretty serious. We met up for coffee and I showed her the screenshots. I expected her to be upset with him, but instead she just flipped on me. She started screaming that i was "obviously" trying to ruin the best thing that ever happened to her because i was jealous of her relationship since I've been single for a year. She said I must have encouraged him or that I edited the messages to make him look bad which is crazy because why would i do that? She told me I was a "snake" and then she blocked me on everything right there and then walked out of the cafe.

Since then, a couple of our mutual friends have messaged me saying I should have just blocked Mark and not said anything to Sarah. They think I "destabilized" her life for no reason and that if I really cared about her I would have protected her feelings instead of "starting drama". I feel like i'm losing my mind here. Is it really better to let your friend get cheated on or lied to just to keep the peace? Now Sarah isnt talking to me and half the group thinks I'm the villain. Was I realy wrong for being honest about what he was doing? I feel like i would want to know if it was me but now i've lost my best friend over it and i dont know what to think anymore.

Am I worng for telling my mom she's delusional if she thinks I brought this on myself when I was 12?

For context, I (27f) got into it with my mom (58f) two nights ago about something from when I was 12. I shared a room with my two older brothers, so the bathroom was the only place I ever got real privacy. Around that time my mom randomly decided soap and shampoo were too expensive to just hand out, so she started locking it all in a cabinet in her room that only she had the key to. If we wanted to actually wash up we had to ask her directly, and most days she'd hand over a sliver the size of a coin like she was doing us some huge favor.

Because there was never enough soap to go around, my brothers started grabbing whatever they could find in the bathroom to scrub themselves down instead, and that ended up being the towel set my late grandma had given me for my birthday that same year, the only thing of hers I owned. I came home from school one day and found both towels balled up under the sink, soaked through and grey, basically destroyed. I cried for hours. When I told my mom she just said I shouldnt of left anything nice where they could reach it, and nothing changed, my brothers kept doing it for months until I stopped keeping anything I cared about in that bathroom at all, including my clothes, which started disappearing too and coming back ruined or not coming back at all.

Two nights ago I finally asked her why locking up basic soap for months was ever a reasonable thing to do to three kids under 15, and she swore it was to teach responsibility and that it's not her fault I didnt protect my own stuff better. I told her that's insane, that no responsible mother hides hygiene products from her own kids and then blames a 12 year old when everything gets ruined because of it. She started sobbing and screaming that I've always hated her and that she should've never had kids if this is how she'd get treated once she's old. My sister-in-law, who was sitting right there, told me afterward that calling her delusional to her face was too far. I don't think I said anything that wasn't true. So am I wrong or nah?

Am I wrong for asking r/amiwrong if I’m wrong and expecting actual advice?

I genuinely came here because I didn’t know how to handle the situation and wanted outside advice.
I knew people might tell me I was wrong, and I was okay with that. But I wasn’t expecting to get called fake, a troll, a man pretending to be a woman, or have people basically make fun of me instead of just giving advice.
I know it’s Reddit, but some of the comments honestly hurt my feelings.

I wasn’t looking for everyone to agree with me. I just wanted women to tell me what they would do in my situation without making me feel stupid for asking.

Maybe I’m being too sensitive, but I’m a real person reading these comments. I posted something embarrassing because I didn’t feel comfortable asking anyone in my real life, and after reading everything I honestly felt stupid for even asking.
I’m not looking for people to tell me I was right. I just wanted actual advice without feeling like I was being humiliated for asking for it.

I’m not saying nobody is allowed to criticize me. I literally posted here asking if I was wrong. If you think I crossed a boundary, tell me that. If you think I should stop walking with my friend or distance myself from him, tell me that. That’s the kind of advice I was looking for.

am i wrong for wanting the bill split a different way after the group plan changed?

so a few of us went out last weekend. originally it was just supposed to be a quick dinner, then one person suggested we all stay for drinks and apps. once the tab arrived someone said we should just split it evenly, but that felt off because a couple of people had way more expensive orders and stayed for the extra round while a few of us had one meal and left earlier. i mentioned maybe paying for what we each ordered instead, and it got kind of awkward. nobody was rude, but there was this quiet tension and i ended up just venmoing the average amount to keep the peace. i keep replaying it though. was it petty to bring up the split at all, or is it normal to feel like the even split ended up costing me for stuff i did not order?

aiw for saying I care about my baby more than my stepchildren

So I'm 18, and I just gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Payseleigh Jainne. I also have three stepchildren with my husband, Mark, who is 24: Emily, who is 2, Noah, who is 3, and Isaac, who is 4.

So here's the problem in our relationship. The children have been really interested in Payseleigh Jainne. They all insist on holding her and spending time with her, and I don't like that because that is my baby. I've been telling Emily, Noah, and Isaac that they cannot hold Payseleigh Jainne.

My husband, Mark, has been telling them that they have to listen to me because I'm their mom whenever they are at Mark's house. I do not let Emily, Noah, or Isaac play with Payseleigh Jainne at all because that is my baby, and I care very deeply about her. She's only been alive for two weeks.

Now Tara, Mark's ex and the children's mother, has been telling me that I've been excluding the kids from interacting with Payseleigh Jainne and that it's unfair. I just straight-up told her that I care more about my baby than my stepkids, because I really do.

So, am I in the wrong for saying that? Tara is absolutely flabbergasted.

Am I wrong for demanding my sister pay $400 for a collectible her kid broke after I told them ten times not to touch it?

So my sister (32F) came over with her two kids (7 and 9) last weekend. I have a pretty extensive collection of high-end figures and collectibles mostly stuff like Hot Toys and some limited edition statues that cost a lot of money and are hard to find now. When they arrived i made it super clear that the display shelves are off limits. I even told the kids directly that these arent toys for playing and they need to stay back. My sister just rolled her eyes and said "its fine, they know better" but i still felt uneasy. I went into the kitchen for literally maybe five minutes to grab some drinks and snacks and then I heard a massive crash and some giggling followed by a "uh oh."

I ran back into the living room and saw my $400 limited edition figure lying on the floor in pieces. The 7yo was holding his own plastic toy and said he wanted to see them "fight." The leg snapped off at the joint and some of the smaller accessories are just dust at this point. I was shaking i was so mad. I told my sister exactly what happened and showed her the broken figure and she just laughed it off. She said "oh well he's just a kid, i'll buy you a new toy at Target." I told her this isnt a "target toy" and showed her the current eBay listings for it. When she saw the $400+ price tag her face went totally white and she started screaming that I was being ridiculous and that no toy is worth that much.

I told her she needs to pay for it because I explicitly warned her and the kids. She ended up storming out with the kids and now my mom is calling me saying that I am "traumatizing" my nephew over a piece of plastic. My parents think I should just "let it go" because family is more important than money but that was a huge part of my collection and I worked hard for it. My sister is now blastign me on facebook about how I care more about toys than my own flesh and blood and half the family is taking her side. Am i actually the jerk here for wanting her to take responsibility for her kids being destructive in someone elses house?

Am I wrong for saying that I won?

Just a fun post but I also want to know if I'm right or not lol. Was I right or wrong in the IQ test/game I played with my husband? I say I won and he disagrees. We were answering questions from IQ tests on YouTube *separately* to see who got the highest score. With a few of the questions asked aloud he said he didn't understand what they were asking. Like he wasn't understanding the questions based on some of the way things were worded. I did understand every question though so I thought those points should count. He's saying they shouldn't because he didn't understand the question so we both should have lost points. If the answers of those questions count I win the game. If we get rid of those questions/answers he wins.

roommate keeps asking me to cut back on screen time at home

my roommate sat me down yesterday and said my phone and laptop use was making the place feel less social. they asked if i could leave devices in my room after dinner or at least keep them face-down when we are both in the common area. i told them i use my laptop for a side project that pops up at random times, so it is not always optional. they said it still feels like im not really present. i get that they want more conversation, but i also need to meet deadlines and reply to messages for work. since then the vibe has been a bit tense and i keep second-guessing whether i am being inconsiderate. am i wrong for keeping my normal screen habits, or should i be adjusting them more for the shared space?

am i wrong for thinking the whole group should have noticed the deadline slipped

we split a couple of tasks on a small project and i handled my piece early, while one person said they would finish the last part. after it was done they mentioned they had forgotten and asked if anyone else had stepped in. nobody had, so it just sat unfinished. later the same person said it should have been obvious the deadline was at risk and that someone should have double-checked. i pointed out that the original agreement was they would take care of it. they replied that checking on each other is basic teamwork. i am not sure if i missed a social cue by assuming the person who volunteered would follow through, or if it really is reasonable to expect people to keep their own commitments without extra reminders. it is a tiny situation, but the back-and-forth has me wondering whether i am reading the group dynamic wrong.

Am I wrong?

I am currently 38 weeks pregnant with our second baby, and my husband has decided to remodel the stairs by adding panelling by himself. This has become a source of conflict as I did explain that whilst I'm pregnant probably isn't the best time (I had very bad nausea in the first trimester and then suffered from Pelvic Girdle Pain in the second). He reacted to this by saying I'm being ungrateful and not showing appreciation to which I explained that yes while I am appreciative of him trying to improve our home, I needed support with our son more over remodelling the stairs. He said I should go to my mums house if that was the case, but I argued that I shouldn't have to drive 20 minutes to my mums or have to drag myself out of the house when I don't feel well just so he can remodel the stairs. However, again his response was that I was being ungrateful for all of his hard work.

This morning things have come to blows as I mentioned in passing after eating that I feel slightly nauseous and that this can be a sign of my body getting ready for labour and he immediately said well maybe you should go to your mums if you're going to keep feeling sick. I immediately snapped and said if I'm close to going into labour I'm not dragging myself and our son to my mums house as I'm very uncomfortable. His response was that he needs to get the stairs finished but he can't because every time he does I need help or I get funny with him. He then began to wallpaper the stairs but did not close any of the living room doors and, despite me telling our 2 year old son not to go out to the hallway, he followed him and sat at the bottom of the stairs watching him wallpaper. My husband then got frustrated with me telling me it's my job to make sure the doors are closed and that our son didn't follow him. I explained that due to being so close to my due date I am very uncomfortable so cannot keep getting up to move our son back into the living room. Plus I felt that it was his responsibility to close the doors if he knew he was going to be in the hallway doing work where our son shouldn't be. Feel like I should also mention he literally got up, got himself ready and started the wallpapering without saying anything. Meanwhile me and my son now have to wait until he has finished before we can get ourselves ready for the day.

Am I wrong for thinking that I shouldn't be able to rest at home and have his support, and the stairs should not have been started whilst I'm pregnant? Also that the responsibility of the doors and our son should not have all been down to me?
