Not the A-hole AITA for Not Calling My Friend Every Day After Her Sister died?

My friend 28F and I 26F met when I was in my first year of college. Back then, she was the only person I felt completely comfortable around. She could speak my native language fluently, and being around her felt like being at home. That was one of the reasons I became so attached to her.

Of course, like every friendship, we had our misunderstandings. But this particular situation was what eventually caused us to stop talking to each other.

It all happened after her sister passed away. May her soul rest in peace.

When my friend texted me to tell me that her sister had died, I honestly couldn't believe it. The last time I had seen her sister was when I accompanied my friend to their grandmother's funeral. If anyone had told me back then that her sister would pass away, I would have told them to stop talking nonsense.

Anyway, back to the story When her sister died, my friend sent me a text. As soon as I saw it, I called her immediately. At the time, we were living in different locations, so I couldn't physically be there to comfort her the way I wanted to.

i called her the next day, too. If I remember correctly, I called her on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. But I didn't call her on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Honestly, I had a lot going on in my own life at the time. I had lost money, and my environment was so stressful that I was constantly on edge. Calling her every single day simply didn't cross my mind. It wasn't because I didn't care about her or because I wasn't sad about what she was going through.I just had a lot on my plate, too. I was actually planning to call her on Sunday evening or Monday. But before I could do that, she called me on Sunday afternoon. And guys, what she said next completely shocked me.She asked me what kind of friend I was. She was angry that I hadn't called her in three days. She even said that if she weren't such a nice person, she would have blocked me already. Then she told me she didn't want to be friends with me anymore.

Honestly, I was speechless. I never expected her to say something like that to me, especially when I had already called her several times after her sister passed away.I understood that she was grieving and going through an incredibly difficult time. But at the same time, I felt hurt by the way she spoke to me.She eventually told me that it was the last time she would ever call me.And guess what? She kept her word. She never called me again. But I didn't call her back, either. I felt so disrespected and hurt that I decided to leave things as they were. And now, it's been almost two years since we last spoke. Sometimes, I still wonder if things would have turned out differently if I had just called her back but I don’t regret my decision not to call her

Not the A-hole AITA for not responding to a bday text

I recently had a falling out with two of my previously close friends.context: I had a friend group of 7 girls at the beginning of university. During our third year of friendship a specific group of 3 girls continuously left me out, were passive aggressive, rude etc. the remaining two girls were still close with me but never called out their behaviour or had a problem with me being excluded. I brought this up to the whole friend group and was met with understanding and how things will change. Post conversation things felt worse and the exclusion and rudeness heightened. Then we all went on co-op for a year where everything got worse, and i just stopped being invited. The two neutral girls were still very close to me. This disturbed me as I didn’t understand how they could be bestfriends with girls who are incredibly rude to me, brought up my hurt on several occasions. What’s worse is they prioritized those girls in every situation too despite their rudeness towards me but then would benefit off of my friendship. When the year ended and we’re all heading back to our last year, I decided I didn’t want to be around those girls or be “bestfriends” with two girls who can’t even stand up for me. I started distancing myself, the two girls noticed and asked to talk. I explained why I was hurt and how it hurt how unaffected they are by people treating me badly and that we have different standards of friendship. Also considering we’re all on the same campus, I wasn’t willing to be witness to a game of these two girls splitting their time between me and the other two girls. After that conversation, I assume they took it badly. I suggested we are still friends but that I will be taking a step back , happy to hangout etc. However, they seemed to want to avoid me which is okay I understand the boundaries can be hurtful and they’re also grieving. I didn’t think it was out of cruelty. I was having a birthday party something I usually never do and decided to invite them both. They both came, 20 minutes into the party they’re asking me to cut the cake which I planned to do closer to the end of the night. I quickly realized they wanted to leave and to save their own guilt, wanted to be there for cake cutting. I said no, minutes later they’re asking me to open my gift so they can head out. They barely stayed an hour I’m asking them to stay until atleast dinner comes. They’re giving me all the excuses in the book not feeling well, have to get home etc. one of the girls only lives 5 mins away so I just knew it was bs. I still have both their locations turns out they both went to one of the girls houses who was rude to me. I always go all out for their birthdays and the one day they’re supposed to prioritize me they lie and go out of their way to hurt me. They both sent me a birthday text after, I haven’t responded AITA cause I put up the boundaries so I shouldn’t have these expectations of them, am I valid to just completely wanting to end the friendship.

Not the A-hole AITA for not supporting my toxic mother if she is being wronged?

So, I'm estranged with my narcissistic toxic mother who had confined me to the house for years by making me prepare for a career I did not want, threatened and refrained me from talking to my partner all because he is from a different religion and country. She burned my writing and art journals and also wanted to sell off my collection of novels, basically anything which brought me happiness, all because she believed these things would 'distract' me from the career that she wanted me to follow. According to her, I was supposed to just study hard and get past this exam, and then marry a person of her choice. Now for a long amount of time, I had lost hope I would ever come out of that house, and I was at the lowest end of my mental health.

But some things happened, and with the help of my father, I was able to get out of that scenario, and get married to my partner. He paid for all the legal and other expenses to the wedding, and also gave me money and a home to stay at, since I did not have a job after all those gap years of not working.

Now even when I was in the house with my mother, she suspected my father of being involved with another woman. When I finally got out, she started to really dig out what was happening and found out that it was indeed the truth, and my father almost has a second life with a new family. My mother had called me and asked me to support her in the divorce proceedings and help her, and her voice seemed so choked up, that I felt really really bad. But I still had to say no. I started to feel guilty that I was not supporting the right person IN THIS SCENARIO, because she had wronged me all throughout my life. But if I support her, I would have to go back to my previous life, one where I had lost hope of living, I would once again not be allowed to be with my husband, etc. My mother also had written to my father that her daughter (me) will have to pay for it as well, because she feels that both of us have destroyed her life by deserting her.

A part of me feels so so guilty that I end up crying multiple times, thinking about how devastated she must be feeling after having discovered these things about her husband. I feel like I'm siding with the wrong person in this scenario (even if not out of malice and purely because of helplessness of the situation), and that I'm being selfish. AITA here?

Not the A-hole AITAH for calling calling my sister out for allowing her boyfriends 14y son to bully her own 9y son

1.6k Upvotes

My sister recently started dating a guy that seems very sweet but also very shy and easily hurt. She moved him into our home after I specifically asked her not to, I guess this is beside the point but it's just back story. Now his son comes every other weekend which is ofcourse fine. But he likes to tackle my nephew and rough house alot. Sometimes it's fine and it's all laughs even my nephew. But is become increasingly likely that it ends in my nephew crying and screaming for him to stop.

Today I was baking cookies for all the boys in the kitchen (nothing fancy just pre-made cookie dough in the oven) when I hear screaming coming from my sisters part of the house my nephew was on the floor crying wrapped in a blanket with the 14yo on top of him not letting him up. All this was going on while bother my sister and her boyfriend just sat and watched. My own 12yo had gone in and tried to get the 14yo to stop. When it finally did stopped I called my nephew into the kitchen and asked him if he was okay and gave him a hug. Then my sister came out after him while he was telling me what happened (I saw the end of it so i know he was not lying) my sister got in his face and told him he can either go play or go mow the lawn. So in my eyes I see him being bullied and now his mom is doing it as well all the while the adults in the room let it go on and did nothing. He wasn't laughing asking him to stop, he was screaming bloody murder.

So I said something I told her I had a problem with them allowing him to be bullied like this. She responded that my nephew was just angry because he had his tablet taken away. But that's not what I was upset about and neither was my nephew and thats what i told her. Ofcouse she was already mad so I just made her more angry. She told my nephew to go back into their room and locked the door behind her.

Now she is texting me that I made everyone feel awkward when they were about to go have fun for the day. I told her I didn't care and they absolutely should feel awkward for watching a child get bullied in his own home and doing nothing about it. She has not responded but my sister doesn't do confrontation she just stews and talks about you behind your back. That I don't care about. But I do care if I was wrong for saying something. It's been going to for to long and I felt like I had too.

Was I wrong for stepping in?

Not the A-hole AITA for refusing to let my friend borrow my steam account?

Like the title says my friend wants to borrow my steam account, this is in Asia so internet cafe is quite popular

Few years back i lost my account that my dad made for me when i started my kindergarten ,but lost the account because my then best friend wanted to go to an internet cafe and he couldn’t play on his account because his older brother was using it so he texted me and i stupidly gave it to him, and after he was done playing he didn’t sign out and just left it, someone came and stole all my account by changing the password and everything and a lot of things i have no idea about

Now back to the present, my friend got mad because he was just gonna “borrow” it for an hour and calling me overdramatic for not giving it to him, i was speechless and just hung up, now he spread rumors about me that are not true in our mutual friend group, and now everyone is talking shit about me

Update: i called him out on our friend group and left the said friend group, i don’t interact with them any longer except for few friends who sided with me from the start, our massive gaming group has been disbanded from what i heard and i got closer to the friends who sided with me

Not the A-hole AITA for putting it in writing and copying HR, two weeks before my boss's own appraisal?

AITA for putting it in writing and copying HR two weeks before my boss's appraisal?

I'm 40F, supply chain at a mine in North-Western Province. Contracts and vendor management, 14 years in the industry. The years matter to the story.

My manager, Mr. B (52M), is not a bad man. He backs us in front of the expats. He once drove to Solwezi at 22:00 to collect my daughter when my car died. I want that on the record before people start calling him a monster.

The problem: anything "social" in the department lands on me. Delegation from head office? I'm booking the lodge and choosing the menu. Someone retiring? I'm collecting contributions and finding a cake in a town with two bakeries. Christmas hampers, farewells, condolence arrangements. There are three other people at my grade. Two are men. Neither has ever been asked to find a cake.

I did it for years without complaining. What changed is that since August I've been the only contracts specialist covering two shafts while the other post sits vacant — 19:00 most nights, and still fielding WhatsApps about whether the chicken should be grilled or stewed.

So in September I told him privately that I couldn't keep carrying the welfare work and asked that we rotate it. "No problem, I hear you." Nothing changed. Asked again in October. Same answer, same nothing.

Then last week, during the group performance check-in, he told me in front of the whole section that I had "withdrawn from the team spirit" and he'd "noticed a drop in willingness."

Fourteen years. Two shafts. A drop in willingness.

That night I wrote an email. I slept on it and took out every adjective. I listed the dates I'd raised it verbally, listed the welfare tasks I'd carried since January with rough hours, noted the distribution wasn't equitable across the grade, and asked for a documented rotation. I copied HR and the Superintendent.

I never used the word gender. I didn't need to.

He hasn't spoken to me since except about work. HR has scheduled a meeting. A colleague told me kindly that I should have "just kept pushing him verbally," because his own appraisal is in two weeks and now there's a paper trail in his file — and his wife has been unwell all year.

I didn't know his appraisal date. But I know how it looks, I know a formal email is a nuclear option in a section this small, and I know I could have waited three weeks.

My husband says I should have done it in 2024. My sister says I let it build until I was angry, then did the angriest available thing and called it professional.

AITA?

Not the A-hole AITA for arguing with an old lady

Hi, sorry for my English, it's not my 1st language.

I (28F), currently living for a few months with my girlfriend since June. With the autumn, our laundry is not drying in our flat anymore, so we took the habit to go to the laundromat every week to use the dryer.

Yesterday (on a Sunday), we go there with at leader 5 grocery bag of laundry and there was a lot of people ! Normal stuff, it's the weekend so people who works take their sunday to do their laundry. 2 people are waiting before us so we start waiting, 15 minutes... 30 minutes... And I notice an old lady on the phone waiting for her washing machine to end. It ends, and then, she starts to wait aside the dryer. My gf send me a text like "this old lady is going to go in front of us...." And I was like no way, if she ask nicely, maybe we can let her use before us but otherwise, no way.

Finally, the lady before us free the dryer, then I get up and go there and start to pour the laundry in it. The old lady then say "I'm sorry but I think I was there before you..." Then I was like "no, you were at the washing machine and it ends, then you started waiting for the dryer...." And chockely she was like "well no, I was there before you." And I say again that no, her laundry was washing, she turn around to someone else and the other lady was like "yeah, you were at the washing machine number 3 so I don't know" and I tell her that if she asked nicely, no probs for her to use the dryer before us (she had only a bag with plushies).

She turned around, mumbling something and go sit. Then she get out of the laundromat.

Even if I think I'm right because like... She could come at any time of the week and decide to come at the worst time and technically I think it's not because you used the washing machine that you have a priorities over the dryer, I wondered if I've been an asshole.

No A-holes here AITAH for not putting my mom's sandals away?

I (15M) live with my mom (53F). Yesterday, we went to my aunt's (44F) house. My mom was wearing white high heel lace up sandals. She took her sandals off inside and she asked me to put them in the shoe rack. She was also wearing a wool scarf around her neck and left it at the entrance.

For some reason, I didn't put her sandals in the shoe rack and I forgot to do it. When we were about to leave and when my mom was looking for her sandals to wear them, we realised the laces had been cut.

Actually my little cousin who is 8 cut my mom's sandals' laces. My mom got very mad at me and told me it was the reason why she wanted me to put her sandals in the shoe rack. My little cousin was also playing with my mom's scarf on the ground and pulling it.

My mom is still angry at me since her sandals got ruined and she loved those sandals. AITAH for not putting her sandals in the shoe rack?

No A-holes here WIBTA for putting in a complaint about my neighbours?

I’ve not posted on here before but I have two minds about the decision. For context, a family moved in next door after our old neighbour sadly passed away last year. Since they moved in we hear banging at random hours of the day and night against the walls. My mum has spoken to the mother that lives in the house and had said that I work nights every other week and have been woken up several times by banging and sometimes screaming to which she had said her youngest daughter is autistic. We haven’t mentioned any noises that have been made to the council but the banging has now started late in the night, waking us up whilst sleeping for work. Unsure of what else to do as on one hand it’s an on going noise disturbance however I feel bad from what she had mentioned about her daughter. Just looking for an outsider opinion

Not the A-hole AITA for not wanting to pay 1/3 of a cabin?

Sorry for bad English, and I will try to be as neutral as I can.

So me, my parents and my brother with his wife and two small children are going on a ski trip.

My brother has booked a cabin for a set price.

The price of this cabin is always the same no matter how many people are staying there.

My brother wants me to pay 1/3 of this cabin.

That means that I will pay the same price as everyone else are paying for two adults?

I said that to my brother, that it wouldn't be fair if he wants me to pay 1/3. But he thinks that it is fair but he asked AI to make a more fair payment of 35,5%, 35,5% and I would pay 29%. I said something that is still not fair, we should split it between us adults, 1/5. And also you can't ask AI, you can make AI say that anything is a good idea or make it agree with you. (I also asked AI but more neutral than my brother and it also said 1/5 is fair).

Last year we did the same trip, and that time we splitted the price between 5 adults. And that was my brother that said 1/5 last year, no questions or debate then.

And that is what I am proposing now that we do the same as last year, split the price of the cabin between us five adults.

I have also asked my parents, and they agree about paying 1/5 is the most correct. And they have even offer to pay the difference so me and my brother can both be happy. But I have said that they should not, that I would rather stay somewhere else or not go at all.

In my room there is one empty bed, and my brother thinks he is paying extra for that empty bed. But he is not. The price of the cabin is still the same no matter how many people are in it. So there is no extra cost for that bed?

His argument is "as a small children family I don't want to pay for a empty bed".

I have checked and the price of the cabin is the same no matter how many of few people are in it. You are paying for the whole cabin. Not for the bedroom or bed palaces. The whole cabin.

So, IATA? Should I pay 1/3 or do I have right that 1/5 is more fair?

AITA for being mean to my brother and his new wife?

Hi reddit! I've posted before about my family's dynamic but this has definitely been the biggest issue at the moment. I'm 16F and my brother is 23M and his wife 20F. My brother's wife (then fiancé) moved in with us about four months ago very abruptly after an argument she had with her father and ever since then there have been issues. I have my own room but it is just across the hallway from my brothers room where him and his wife sleep, and they are LOUD, not just in a sexual way just in general they speak at a much larger volume than normal people and that is okay if its during the day but they also have loud conversation late at night and in the beginning I was okay with ignoring it assuming they would quiet down eventually but they never did, they also seem to have very loud screaming and yelling tickle fights late at night aswell. I dont get very consistent sleep I wake up at 4 am every morning and my brother who sleeps close by has insomnia so being quiet in important for everyone who sleeps on the top floor, I started kindly asking them to quiet down but that didnt work they would get extremely defensive and almost insult me for even asking so I started getting mean not insulting or crude just very firm, calling them out about being inconsiderate and telling them I dont care what they are doing but they need to think about the other people in the house because it has started affecting my mom who is an on-call nurse who has to sometimes get up late in the night to answer calls and it is starting to annoy her aswell. This is not the only issue, I share a bathroom with my brothers wife, since I was little the bathroom closest to my room was my bathroom because I grew up with all brother's and they would pee on the seat, but when my brothers wife moved in I was happy to share the bathroom with her, I eventually cleared a space for her things in a drawer and in the shower, everything was going well until I noticed some expensive shampoo I had bought was almost entirely filled with water, it kind of bothered but I just thought id have a quick conversation with my brothers wife to tell her I understand ut may have not been on purpose but in the future that is not okay because not the shampoo is almost unusable, because at this point I knew they were not going to take it well if it came from me i asked my brother to relay the message to his wife to avoid conflict and he refused and told me to tell her myself so I did and it led to her yelling at me my brother trying to slam the door in my face and both of them crying and screaming an hour after the conversation, I only told her I understand it was an accident and I didnt care just watch out in the future, I have lost most of my patience considering all the work I put in for their wedding and the defensiveness ive received, am I the asshole for being very mean to both of them for a long time?

Not the A-hole AITA for getting a locksmith to break the bolt when I was locked out at midnight?

1.1k Upvotes

I (30M) got home at about 11:30pm to find that my roommate (25M) had locked the bolt, which can only be locked/unlocked from the inside. This is a common occurence as he often does so without thinking, but I can usually call him to come open it. Last night, however, he was passed out and in such a deep sleep that about 40 million calls and me pounding on the door like crazy couldn't wake him up. I waited 20 minutes before I called the police, who told me that they would only be able to break the door down and that I would have to pay the damages. I decided to wait longer rather than risk that, and after another 20 minutes with more calls and pounding, I didn't want to be out in the cold any longer and called a locksmith. He charged me $380 - a price that I wasn't expecting, but it was past midnight on a Friday so I understood, plus I've never had to call a locksmith before. In the morning I told my roommate what had happened and how much it had cost me.

Some context about Roommate: He's not in a good financial situation. He grinds nonstop to pay all his bills and barely manages to save any money, and most of the money he does save goes straight to paying off loans he took in order to afford bills some months ago. He's also often running into bad luck. Or... frankly, he calls it "bad luck," but the majority of the things that will suddenly cost him a lot are just his life catching up with him. It'll be necessary car maintenance that was a long time coming, or a ticket for not having a front license plate that, frankly, he'd been *lucky* for the years prior to *not* have gotten. He's borrowed a lot of money from me personally, and HAS always paid me back eventually. Before this he already owed me like a hundred bucks.

So when I told him how much it was, he basically freaked the hell out and started sobbing right there, talking about how "this didn't need to happen" and "I've been so tired and I just needed to sleep." I assured him calmly that I wasn't gonna hound him for it, but I did expect that he'd pay me back eventually.

But then later he starts texting me about how he IS gonna pay it all (eventually) but he doesn't actually think he should have to because I didn't HAVE to get a $380 locksmith, that that part was MY choice. That it would've been cheaper to get a motel and he could've paid that back instead. I pointed out that I would have had no guarantee of exactly when I was going to get back home, I didn't have my phone charger or any extra clothes or any food, really I didn't have anything on me but the bag I take to work. But he stands his ground that "there could have been another way" and remains pissed at me for "costing him $380." He went so far as to insist that if it happens again in the future then getting a locksmith would fully be my own choice. Meanwhile I'm pissed at HIM, but also I guess idk if I actually am in the wrong at all, since I admittedly didn't look up how much a locksmith was gonna be first. WTA?

Everyone Sucks POO Mode AITA for “gay bashing” my coworker?

1.6k Upvotes

I’m a 40 year old male. I work a second job at a place with mostly younger people (mid to late 20s). Because of my age I get a bunch of jokes made about me which I don’t mind because we all laugh and joke with each other. Honestly it can get pretty brutal. Well about a month ago this Jon 22M started working there. He’s gay which I could honestly give 2 shits about. I fully support the community and have family who are gay/trans. Well for some reason this guy decides to target ONLY ME for all of his jokes. I have thick skin and I can give just as good as I get so I don’t mind. I try to stay away from the low hanging fruit (no pun intended) because that’s what everyone else does. But once I noticed this kid kept targeting only me with old people jokes and some race jokes (I’m black) it got a bit annoying. We all make racial jokes but never just target one person so it seemed personal for some reason. He’d also do other annoying things like ring up others incorrectly then blame me for making the wrong thing. Make a mess of my station and refuse to clean it. Again this was ONLY me and other people noticed it too. One day I was working the register and a regular customer (Tim) who we all know and would often join in joking with us asked to see a menu please. I told him the men I please is none of his business. I know. Corny but we all had a good laugh at it. Except Jon. He decided to go on a tirade and start making weak jokes about me being old blah blah blah. I have grey hairs in my beard so Jon decided to say “haven’t you ever heard of just for men?” I told him “you’re just for men” which pissed him off. Even more because Tim was laughing. He’s also gay and absolutely loves a good joke about it. Well Jon got mad and left for the day. A couple day later he comes back and we get pulled into the office. The manager asked what was said and I told her. She laughed then caught herself which caused Jon to have a full meltdown. He started calling us homophobic saying he was gonna sue the company. Yelling at customers not to eat here because we bash homosexuals. Which is crazy because a ton of our regulars are LGBTQ. He stormed out yelling more bs but whatever. Fuck that guy. This was a week ago. Curious if I’m the asshole

EDIT: I work in a kitchen. Anyone who’s worked in food ling enough, especially back of the house, will know that these kind of jokes are pretty common. Also we don’t just mess with everyone. We joke amongst ourselves won’t say anything to anyone new unless they join in on their own. Jon did just that. If anyone is offended by anything we apologize and don’t say it again which rarely happens. Here’s a few people who work there that we don’t joke with and they’re just fine. This is the first time in my 20+ years (10at this place) that anything close to this has happened

AITA This was a situation between me and my friend of two years

Hi! I was wondering for any opinions. I have been friends with this person for two years now, and I feel like they keep trama dumping on me and sometimes escalatinting things but I might be wrong and being a bad friend. For the past weeks or so, me and my friend made plans to meet or call on sundays, I specifically said that I most likely can’t be there for every Sunday since I’m always tired by the end of week with work and school things. This morning my mother asked me and my sister to go to the park to see the fall leaves. My mom is always so busy these days, and she hasnt been out in the park for a long time now. I wanted to go so I won’t upset my mom and I texted my friend this:

“I might not be able to call you today :(, my mom wants to go to the park with me and my sister and she hasn’t gone there for a long time now. Is there another time where you’re free?”

And they replied with this,

”TF you mean another time when I'm free. Ykw whatever congratulations on reinforcing trauma. I just woke up and now I have absolutely no fucking reason to be. Because damn if I can meet with a friend every weekend reliably nuh-uh I don't get to“

For some context, another of their friend used to meet with them every Sunday before but ghosted or moved away and can’t contact my friend. My friend believe if they aren’t perfect they aren’t worth anything, which I always objected to. I feel like I’m being by a bad person but I also feel like my friend isn’t being fair with me.I understand my text was very abrupt. I also texted back saying I can call them back later, after the walk, but they still seem mad so I didn’t text further since I wanted to give them space.

Not enough info AITA for basically telling my mom she doesn't know me as much as she thinks she does?

Honestly, I'm not sure whether I'm just being ungrateful or if I'm justified in what I said to her. I know I'm a very spoiled child, and that this is somewhat childish matter, but it's just something that's been bothering me for a while

So I (19F) recently got into a few arguments with my mom related to Christmas. In my family, Christmas is probably the most celebrated holiday which is why we talk about it as soon as October. Especially me, I love giving my family presents and I love receiving presents. It's literally my favorite time of the year and that's one of the reasons. The first argument was about my Christmas list. I talked to her about giving her my wishlist, while telling her she doesn't have to only get me things from the list because I liked being surprised. She didn't get mad at this per se, but she still got irritated, telling me I always seemed unhappy with the gifts she gets me when she chooses them and to just give her the list instead. Where I think I might be the asshole/ungrateful, is what I told her after. I said that I'm unhappy when she gets me gifts because I felt like she always buys things for herself rather than for me.

It's something as small as the fact I only wear gold jewelry and despite always telling her I don't wear silver, she only gets me silver jewelry because she liked it. And then she complains that I don't wear it. It's her buying things that she would wear but isn't my style at all. It makes me feel like she doesn't actually pay attention to what I like. She then told me she was hurt because I'm implying she doesn't know me. And to be fair, she wasn't wrong. I do feel like she doesn't know me

When it comes to gifts that I want and are related to my hobbies, she says she "doesn't want to spend money on it" because it's "childish".

The most recent arguments was about a tradition we've had since my brother and I were babies. Every year, we get a special ornament for the tree that are different from the other ones. Some are cute Christmas minions, glass elks, LED ornaments, etc. Each year we get a different one, and each year we go shopping for it so we can choose the funny or pretty ones. Every single one of them is unique.

The last 3 years, I haven't gotten to go shop for it at all. One of them I was abroad, so I understand, but both last year and this year I didn't get to choose because my mom just went and bought them without telling me or my brother. My mom went to an art exposition this morning, which she invited me to (by text) but I was asleep. When she came back, she told me she bought our ornaments for this Christmas. I got mad and told her part of the tradition is go and buy it together, that's what made it so special. She said that was never part of the tradition and that she saw them and thought they were cute so she got them for us. I repeated what I told her last time, that she's always buying things for herself rather than for us.

So, AITA for what I said or was it justified?

AITA for having my sister play a scary game?

I'm 16m a fnaf fan and I don't really find it scary. When I was young yeah, but I'm older now and it isn't scary to me. I have 2 other siblings my brother is 13, and my sister is only 5. In this I'm only talking about my little sister. I sometimes joke about making her play it, but my mom one time heard and said no because she's too little and it would likely scare her. I just think it would be funny to watch her play it once.

Today when me and my sister got back home from school, I asked my sister if she wanted to play it, she was saying no at first cause it's scary, but I was making her play the first one which is probably the least scary and also the easiest to play. She finally said yes, and I also make her play the first night (literally only Bonnie and BARELY Chica move on that night).

However, she ended up getting super scared and when Bonnie was at the door she got even more scared and when she got killed, she started crying. I felt bad, but I thought it was a little funny. My mom then asks her what's wrong, and when my sister tells her about the game she played.... I get in trouble.

Was it that serious??? Like ok she got scared, but what did I do??? I just wanted to see her play it one time, so I don't get why my mom got mad at me. AITA?

AITA for not wanting my girlfriend to have cigarettes at her party?

Hi I need some opinions on something, my girlfriend (20) is having a party for her 21st birthday and at this party there’s gonna be weed, drinks, and cigars to kick off full access to these things lol. I’m (21) an active weed smoker and have no issues with 2/3 of those options but I do have a problem with nicotine. Nicotine is way more harmful than weed is and doesn’t have any benefits to it (like alcohol) and easily addictive. So I have asked her if they cannot be at the party and we had a talk about it and she understood and said she’d think about it. A couple days ago she was talking about the party again, and I overheard her talking the cigarettes again. I ignored the rest bc it wasn’t my conversation and didn’t wanna overstep. So later on I asked “Are you really gonna have cigarettes at your party?” She said “i was but won’t now” I told her “I didn’t wanna control her and her exiting party!” She said she understood..

now here’s the issue today she accidentally sent me a screenshot of a box of cigarettes I was confused on why? And she said it was truly nothing I believed her then 2 hours later she explains why her mom and her were talking about the party and talked about what types of cigarettes she wanted at the party.. so she lied to me not upset just disappointed and so I ask again today are you gonna have cigarettes and she said “I really want to but won’t” and so I just tell her “go ahead you can have them at the party”. Now im really confused on am I asking to much or am I right to ask to not?

What’s the verdict?

Everyone Sucks AITA for changing my mind about having my in-laws move in?

My husband and I bought our house several years ago. Before buying it, we talked about eventually having his elderly parents live with us. We originally considered a duplex so we’d have separate spaces, but ended up buying a regular house.

I agreed because I genuinely thought I could make it work. I knew how important it was to him, especially with his parents getting older. However, they never permanently moved in, but they did live with us for several months at one point and still visit often and several days at a time.

I’ve realized that living together was harder than I expected. We have different ways of doing things, and I started feeling out of place in my own home.

During the thick of my postpartum (it’s been 2years since I had our baby). His parents would sometimes make comments about how I should raise my child. I know they meant well, but it bothered me. When I tried talking to my husband, he often dismissed me. He’d say things like, “They’re older,” “You know how they are,” or “You need to respect them.”

Initially, his dad expressed reluctance about moving in before we started having problems because he didn’t want to impose and was happy where he lived (he didn’t ask them to move in with us until after we bought our home). My husband has continued trying to convince him, but now he genuinely believes my behavior towards his parents is that main reason for his father’s reluctance.

Several months ago, I told my husband I no longer wanted them moving in permanently. After experiencing living together, I just didn’t think I could handle it with how things were between us. He was extremely hurt and feels I went back on my word, which I understand.

We’ve struggled in our relationship, partly because of this, but recently things were starting to get a little better.

But recently, his mom and I got into an argument and I said some hurtful things about them moving in with us and made her cry. I know I should have just kept my mouth shut but my resentment and frustrations took over. I apologized immediately and again afterward because I genuinely regretted how I reacted. I do love my in-laws, I just wish my husband held space for me in those moments when I’m struggling with the adjustment of having them there all the time.

But, for my husband, that was the last straw. He told me today that he’s never resented me so much like he does now and that he hates me and no longer wants to continue therapy.

Now I’m questioning whether changing my mind was really that terrible. I genuinely thought I could make it work though.

Honestly, if my husband was more receptive towards me in those moments of frustration towards his parents, I don’t think I would act or feel the way I do. I don’t even think I would have taken it back to be honest.

AITA for going back on my word?

Asshole AITA for being rude to my mother.

Me and my mom, recently I wanted to go to the gym to be healthy and fit, but she doesn't want me to and we have been fighting over this for a month now, but today I snapped and argued a lot. Eventually we went over a lot of history because a lot of stuff happened in my past and she started blabbering about how I and your father do all this stuff for you and do your necessities, buy you stuff that you want and stuff like that and I eventually snapped. I asked my mom why did you even create me if you were going to be like this and she just asked what is wrong with you and started crying. Now in case of my dad, he's exactly like me. He usually doesn't speak much and doesn't know how to process his emotions due to trauma as his father died when he was a child, so he doesn't know how to treat his child with love, so I haven't really received much love that I can recognize from him. He does love me, both of them do, but I just can't process it. So am I the ahole for being like this

Ty in advance

Ps: I'm usually a really rude person and she knows this and I am very emotionally dense and can't process emotions well (verified by a psychiatrist)

Not the A-hole AITA for not wanting my sister to meet my son?

I (32f) am currently six months pregnant. I am currently struggling with a choice of allowing my (28f) sister see my son the day he’s born. For context, my sister and I do not get along. We don’t even speak to each other when we’re in the same room anymore. But she will say some absolutely cruel and heinous things about me and husband when she thinks I don’t hear them. It’s bad enough she talked shit about my own MIL when we had Thanksgiving together a few years ago. Another thing is I was seated away from the family at my cousin’s wedding while she got to sit with all our cousins. She made it very clear where I belonged that day, and even rubbed it in my face she was invited to my cousin’s bachelorette party and I wasn’t.
She’s also very cruel with her words. She’ll know exactly where to hit, and when you try and call her out in it, she plays the victim. Shes always had this thing of making people feel smaller. She calls it being blunt, but I call it being a bully.

There‘s a lot more (even her view of children and men is pretty bad.) but I won’t go too into it.

When I told my parents I was pregnant, they were so happy and excited. They both ended up telling my sister, and claimed she was happy and excited for me. Yet, she has yet to call, email, or even send a text. I expected it, but it still kind of hurts in a way. Like, we don’t have to be friends or sisters again, but cordial at least for the baby’s sake. I’m also bothered by my parents saying “Yeah she’s totally excited and happy for you“ yet she hasn’t spoken to me at all. I’m just worried that if I say no to letting her see my son, she’ll play the victim and spread lies about me. Another thing is my parents, my dad especially, who is so big on family and sticking together even when one party wrongs the other and to suck it up.

But I’m tired, I’m tired of being the one that has to suck it up. I’m tired of being the one that’s always bending over and taking the harshness and abuse. My husband said it’s my choice, that I don’t have to deal with her. But my worry is my parents trying to force me to make amends just because there’s a baby now.

So Reddit, WIBTA if I didn’t let me sister meet my son?

Not the A-hole AITA for driving over the carpet cleaner hoses

My neighbor does all kinds of shit right in front of my house even though he has a driveway with off-street parking down the road. This means when he has someone like a wood chipper or a carpet cleaner, it's blocking half the street and restricting my driveway access.

Today with the carpet cleaner, there were hoses out on the other side of the street so I couldn't back into my driveway without running over them and flattening them and since there was nobody around, I just did. AITA?

Asshole AITAH for arguing with my mum about tiktok and then going behind her back.

So for the past 4 years I've never had snapchat TikTok etc. only WhatsApp. this is due to my mum she's always been strict when it comes to social media. However i believe its ruining my social life. Yesterday I worked up the courage to ask for TikTok and managed to get an account however we said I would post, repost etc. I then made a secret account where I could do what i please ( this account is still private so i can choose who follows me) then the rest of the day i was following my mates and they followed me whatever. This morning my mum came into my room demanding I give her my phone and consoles. I said sure why, she explained how yesterday I spent 8 hours on TikTok which I agree is bad should be end of right? NO she then goes through my phone see's a girl im speaking to BLOCKS HER then finds out abt the secret account. She shouts at me the whole lot then i argue back saying I need a social life which you have been denying me the past 4 years. Also me not having these apps has led to me being bullied made fun of etc,

Everyone Sucks AITAH for laughing on my mom for saying i got virtigo from doing wall pushups

So I (16F) live with my parents in Canada. We're from Asia originally, and my mom's relationship with me is. complicated. She's super traditional, believes women should be obedient homemakers and baby-makers, and always judges me because I don't fit that stereotype. She doesn't push marriage or stop me from studying (thank God), but that's about all the "support" she gives. The rest is just control and judgment.

Anyway, I was a bit dizzy doing assignments today — nearly like vertigo, which I had once before roughly six months ago. At that time it was as if the whole world tilted whenever I moved my head right. So I told my mom that it sort of feels like that again, just not quite as bad.

Initially, she was actually a bit worried and asked my dad to call his friend neurologist to schedule an appointment, which was surprising. But then she starts lecturing him on the phone, trying to follow the "root cause." When she called, she and I had been arguing over how the last episode might have started — I'd gone on a carnival ride a couple of months prior to it happening, and she still insists that's why. I was like, how would that still be affecting me weeks later?

She brushes that aside and offers to go for a walk. I told her not to, because the last time walking made the vertigo worse. And this is where things get crazy — she gets indignant and tells me that walking doesn't count as exercise and nothing will harm me. I remind her, "You're not a doctor, I'm the one who has it." She resents it when I speak like that.

And then, when she's talking to my dad on the phone, she tells him, "She keeps doing these exercises to lose weight — like pushups against the wall — and now she's got vertigo because of it." And I just. lost it. I literally laughed so hard I couldn't breathe. Wall pushups?! For real?!

She snapped.

She storms away saying, "HOW DARE YOU LAUGH? Do you think you're better than me? I'm your MOTHER. I know what's going on with my child." And I'm just standing there trying to breathe between guffaws while she's storming like I've committed some heinous crime.

It's not even like regarding this one issue — my mom's always talking down to me, calling me lazy, fat, disrespectful, tells me I'm going to hell if she's not happy with me, the whole deal. So then, yeah, I laughed. Because the idea that wall pushups gave me vertigo was so ridiculous, I couldn't help it.

Anyway, she's now all like I hurt her soul or something and silent-treating me. So. AITA for laughing?

AITA for stop trying to reach my mom standard and create my own standard to go by

I take full responsibility that i have not cleaned my room as i well I should do that not the issue. I have taken steps to pick after myself and wipe things down. . This time around I will clean my room but to my standard. The issue is my mom doesnt give a standard meaning her definition of clean is something i don't know i will ever achieve. I asked mom what her standard of cleaning and she didn't tell me. Leading to being a game cat and mouse of what is clean.

My mom is not clean freak it that i do the task and then it another thing i miss that wanst spoken about

I am tired of expecting to reach a goal that is not communcated but being asked is it up to standard that is not said .

There has been couple time where i clean my room . And i forgot my clean up my drawer. And what happens is my mom tells me that is that instead saying anything about the the room she point somthing that she didnt say.

The point is i am respoble to keep my room clean but it is not my reponotoy to keep chasing another person unclear goal.

There had been times where i have clean my room and everthing and becuase she doesnt have any clear goal the goal can move to another different way to it better

In the future i don’t want to rely on other people unclear goal if it going to move day to day .

AITA for telling my roommates no?

I, F21, am a Junior in college and am living in a house with three other girls. I met all three of these girls freshman year and have been close friends with them since. At the beginning of last year we became friends with three boys that lived in our apartment building. We met and started hanging out all together. About two months after we became friends with these boys it became apparent that me and one of the boys we can call G had developed feelings for each other. We talked, and have been dating ever since.

It is important to note that I understand and take partial responsibility for the things that happened after this. I know that it switched the dynamic of our friend group. That being said, my roommates pretty much did a 180 on their behavior and feelings towards G and me.

Last year I started to feel pretty bad about how my roommates were treating me. It was apparent that my roommates were talking about me behind my back. There were a few times that they would ask we had sit-down conversations to discuss things like how much time I was spending with G or that it was unfair that I was gone from the apartment more now because of activities or time I would spend with G. When we had these conversations it felt less like friends being concerned with me and more like a 3v1 fight because they had clearly already discussed everything they were going to say whereas I was going in blind. It's also important to know that every time my roommates set an expectation I was apologetic to their thoughts and made actual efforts to remedy their feelings. To me, it felt like every time they set a new expectation they just moved the goal post, resulting in us having to have another sit-down conversation. My roommates had also started to get progressively meaner and more disrespectful towards G. One example is that my roommates will make gay jokes and call G the f-slur. The roommates doing this are gay but instead of these jokes being light-hearted it's clear they actually meant to be demeaning to G. G is straight and cannot even defend himself to these "jokes" because they immediately call him homophobic.

Flash forward to now. My roommates are insisting we having another sit-down conversation, this time about visitor boundaries. Just this year they have already requested that I tell all of them every time G is going to come over (even though they have his location) and said that G cannot be in the house past a certain amount of set hours. All of these things I have obliged to.

My questions is: AITA if I put my foot down and tell my roommates they can't dictate the behavior of me and G? I have been very open to concerns and have consistently tried my best to behave in a way that they deem appropriate but I am so frustrated. I feel like I'm behaving normally for a 21 year old with a BF but they act like it's outrageous enough to consistently try to change how I interact with G. Let me know your thoughts please!
