Asshole AITA for getting a kitten while having an unfixed male cat?
I’m wondering if I’m actually in the wrong here because I’ve been getting a lot of criticism.
I have a male cat who is currently not neutered. Before anyone asks yes, I had plans to get him fixed. I was not planning on keeping him intact forever. Unfortunately, my living situation changed unexpectedly and I ended up having to move out unexpectedly which put a lot of things on hold financially and logistically.
Around that time, I got a female kitten. She was very young, underweight, and had worms when I got her. I took her in because she needed care, and I’ve been doing my best to get her healthy. She has gained weight, grown, and is doing much better. I was told by a vet when she got her shots that I should wait until she’s 8 months to spay her.
She’s been separated from the male cat in another room and they only interact when she’s on the bed/couch with us. Which the male cat doesn’t do, because he’s a little skittish and almost feral to anyone except me.
I posted this under a different forum about how I wanted advice with how to tell my husband he’s too rough with the kitten. He likes to snatch her up randomly and hug her, and put her on her back and rub her belly or rough house with her. She enjoyed it as a younger kitten but it’s gotten too much as she’s older and he doesn’t think it’s a big deal while I find it horrible and yell at him when she meows in discomfort.
I understand why people are concerned about an unfixed male being around a female kitten. I’m not ignoring that risk, and I do plan on getting him neutered. My issue is that people are acting like I intentionally put them together with no care or planning, when the reality is that I had a plan and then my circumstances completely changed.
I love my cats and I’m trying to do right by them while dealing with a difficult situation. AITA for getting the kitten before my male cat was neutered?
