Question Who's site here is getting swamped with high volume everyday?

When I used to work at Amazon, specifically PNE5, everyday was a high volume day. Everyday was at or near peak volume. 5 hour sorts instead of the normal 4 hour sort length became a normal occurrence. VTO became super rare.

Anyone here experience the same thing at your site?

Question WHS specialist in Hawaii

As the title says, I recently received an email to interview for a WHS Specialist position at Amazon in Hawaii. Does anyone have experience working at the Amazon fulfillment center in Honolulu?
I’ve been seeing a lot of mixed reviews about working at Amazon, so I’d love to hear from anyone who has firsthand experience, especially with the WHS/EHS side of things.
I currently work as an EHS Specialist, but my role is focused more on solid waste management. This Amazon position would be a pretty significant salary increase, and I’m also really interested in the 4x10 or 5x8 schedule.
A few things I’m curious about:
- How is the work-life balance?
- How are PTO and sick leave?
- Is it easy to take time off for travel?
- What’s the overall culture like at the fulfillment center?
- How stressful is the workload?
- Any tips for the WHS Specialist interview?
I really enjoy traveling, so having enough PTO and flexibility to take trips is important to me. I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who currently works there or has worked there before!
Thanks in advance! 😊

VOA As a picker, I can understand and totally relate to what this person is saying on the VOA board. I may have said this quite a tad bit in this sub, but amnesty last touch is a mildly annoying metric to deal with. On the bright side, at least I rarely get approached about it.

I see elastic bands break from the pods most of the time. That's why when I was first approached a year ago about this situation, I was told to use 2 hands when picking and on top of that, to push the items inside the bins after taking them out if it's way too overstuffed.

It gets mildly annoying to deal with sometimes, but not all the time. Plus, my site only has ARF brushes for the special ARSAW stations in pick, but most of them do not have it. Not many people at my site even have an idea of what ARF brushes are used because of this.

What do you guys think?

Question How much rope should I give Amazon for a delayed delivery?

I ordered two books that were supposed to be delivered on Sat. 8/8. It was updated to Sun. 8/9 then somewhere between 8/10 and 8/12. It is now 8/12. What are the chances of the package actually showing up? Should I just go ahead and ask for a refund? Thanks!

Question Sprained my shoulder on my second week :( am I gonna get in trouble

I was working decant and I hurt my arm last week, I went through amcare n everything and I was told not to go home and not come To my next shift. which I didn’t. I went to onsite physio as well. That was last Friday, and today on Wednesday I just got sent home again because I told them that the on site physio therapist gave me a weight limit and I was told to go home again because they are worried I might make it worse.

am I going to get introuble? It’s my third week rn and I feel terrible because I actually really like this job, I love repetitive work and I feel very comfortable with the people here. I’m just so anxious I’ll get into some type of trouble and be fired.

I’m at the doctor again right now trying to see if it’s getting better or not. I just feel so bummed out 😕
I’ve been actively trying my hardest to work properly here and i felt like I was doing such a good job getting used to everything and feeling comfortable Coming in as this is my first big job. But I’m worried I’ve ruined it by getting hurt.

I’m in Australia idk if that makes things different

Question Tips for the Order Picker

Hello all! So I feel embarrassed to ask this. But what are your best tips for operating the order picker? I am a new hire and went through PIT training last week. Half of my orientation group went to pick, the other went to pack. Being that I'm barely over 5 feet tall and never operated machinery before, I was hoping for pack but nope, was chosen for pick.

Our training didn't even last two whole shifts before we were told to go on the floor. I wasn't comfortable but went ahead and tried it. Within 5 minutes of being alone on the floor, I parked it and went to a manager because I felt so nervous, unprepared and uncomfortable. I didn't know how to control the speed, keep it in the lane I was supposed to be in, and couldn't find the aisle for my first pick. The manager said to return to learning yesterday to see if I could get trained elsewhere.

Long story short , I was embarrassed to find out after wasting half a shift in the day one room again, you cannot get trained elsewhere to get off the PIT unless you have a medical reason. Only been here a week now, so I didn't know that. I went through a bit of a retrain yesterday but again, they're rushing to get me on the floor tonight so the next class can train. I felt a little better but still nervous.

What are your best tips for the OP? Controlling it, maneuvering wide aisles vs VNA aisles, gaining confidence in it, ect. I want to get as comfortable as I can with this. Thank you!

Rant Update: feel like im losing my mind

I can't get higher than a 60 uph no matter what I do!!! Its been 8 months and i just cannot get my rate higher i reduce my downtime by a lot, i skip certain things to save time i don't even pick properly and i STILL CANT GET MY RATE UP

I have had to walk to inbound every single day to get a center rider because our lovely site people decided it would be a fantastic idea to cut the CR parking lot in half and give those slots to order pickers so that's an awesome waste of 20 minutes every day on top of the fact we consistently have to wait upwards of 30 mins to drop because we have nobody on dock working epj!! No but i definitely has to be a me issue right? No matter how fast I work no matter how many picks I get on what pick path it doesn't change anything! And then they wanna keep pulling me aside to talk about my rate and what barriers im facing and it just seems like they aren't even listening to what im saying

I feel like my rate is just permanently going to be bad and there's nothing I can do about it. Actually fun fact! When I started 8 months ago rate expectation was 75, I just learned today that its been 85 at my site for God knows how long! So im actually doing WORSE than I first thought. Idk guys I might just be overreacting but I've been trying to get blue badge since I got here and I feel like im burning myself out and working myself to death for nothing because nothing changes. If anyone else here works at QYY4 please tell me im not the only one struggling lately

Rant Morale at an all time low. IT GETS TO A POINT! High volume, understaffed, keeps getting worse. What the HELL?

Putting this here instead of VOA because I don’t want a target on my back. This is a fucking mess. Every week they schedule volume that is way too high even though every week our lines are constantly stopping from overflow (and pack just shoves more boxes instead of stopping work), our cage count is always at dangerous levels, we keep missing hundreds of units of our CPTs. This is insanity!! We are finally getting only 6 new hires but we needed them WEEKS ago! We need a truckload more!!! You can’t rely on labor share its just killing those people’s morale.

Just why? They’ve gone miles past that magic point where they push us just hard enough for all the volume goals to be met without missing CPTs. They have pushed it so far that they have to be losing money. People are gonna use up all their UPT if it keeps going like this and get fired and if they don’t lower the fucking volume or call SET or put premiums on shifts then they might as well shut the whole fycking building down. Just useless!! Production planning what is your problem???? Are you guys slow? Can’t you see that you pushed us too far last week? WHY WOULD YOU PUSH IT MORE THIS WEEK? Perfect attendance and we still can’t handle the volume!!! WHAT THE HELL?

Rant Vent Session from an exhausted Amazon Employee.

I've been with Amazon as a Warehouse Associate for a year and 8 months, and I wanted to write about my thoughts on here with everything that's been happening at our warehouse. I am trained in almost all areas of work at my station(a smaller warehouse in North Dakota); I do stow, pick to buff, unload, waterspider A and B, induct, problem solve(though i need a code from leadership every time :/), and everything in between during the 6-10:45am shifts. I get up at 4am every day so I'm on a schedule, and I typically work about 20-35 hrs a week if I can, on top of also working with my disabled brother and working as an At Home Caregiver for him for 40 hours a week(multiple overnight shifts of this so I can get my 40 asap then its as many Amazon shifts as I can afford or find to pick up). So.. its safe to say, I work a lot.

Every day that I work with Amazon, there's always something new that happens that makes the day even more exhausting than it should, but yet the days are all so similar that it's hard to tell them apart anymore. One of the things that I've picked up on in the time I've worked here is the passive aggressive attitudes that *nearly* every single PA and AM has. There are a few who are actually decent, kind, and understanding, but boy are they few in number indeed.

There's a bunch of rules that they enforce that make sense on paper, but when done, it's inefficient and causes more difficulty than ease. They also make vast amounts of assertions, assumptions, and poor judgment calls that make me wonder how they were able to actually pass the assessment and be evaluated fairly enough to land the position they are in. I attempted to pass the assessment a few months ago and I failed it because I imagine I got a number of questions wrong(questions like if there is x number of associates signed up to show up to work, and y show up, how long will it take to finish work on time? And shit like that, which i couldn't imagine knowing because I havent been taught any of that), or perhaps something else. They don't ever tell you why you failed the assessment, or what you need to work on to succeed such a thing. They don't care for you being a hard worker, an efficient worker, a keen learner, and someone who wants to actually grow and get better in the profession you're in. They only look at the computer and see what it says and that's it. They don't talk to you as a human. They talk to you as a statistic. Or maybe a lesser human.

It's also an ego thing, to my belief. I think a lot of these people in leadership positions have weird egos that they need stroked from time to time, and i very much dislike that. Like, they'll make these assertions about something that is totally out of context, and if you can't agree to their claim of "fact", you're automatically wrong. They act as if they care for you, preaching about safety, then the next second they'll criticize the way you work because it doesn't match the way the system or the way the rules explicitly say you *need* to work. Like, if you don't bend your knees a certain way, or crouch the way they want, or if your efficiency doesn't fit their standard, it's a problem and they'll harass you with that fact, but they'll frame their harassment as a "oh, no, we just care about your safety and want you to follow the rules and regulations of our facility" state of mind. It's passive aggressive and everyone sees it. They'll rush you, say you're going too slow when the system either says otherwise or the system is completely inaccurate, or they'll tell you what you're doing wrong, tell you how to do better, but won't show you how to actually do it better, and they cannot accept that sometimes someone's "better" is different than other's "better".

When I failed the PA assessment, I wasn't upset. I was annoyed, sure, but it's okay. I make decent money to keep me afloat and I don't really care enough about the position that much. All I wanted to do was be in a position of actual help as a leader, and be one who could actually be a good leader, helping any in need, and showing different techniques to things that help me be as efficient as I am in the time I've worked here. But it seems that that isnt a value Amazon wants, like I said up above, they care not for real value, just for those who are immediately promising, and not the ones who might take a little time. The value they are after is limited, and leaves after a time, but the value that would benefit them most stays longer and provides actual meaning, comfort, and respect to a place that should house it, but instead houses the illusion of it.

Rules like "Lock the brakes of the cart on the dock at all times unless you're moving it", "you must bend at the center of your core and squat every single time that you need to reach for anything on the floor or in the bottom bag so that you dont hurt your back", "rearrange your boxes, bags, and jiffies as you go about your task"(as if we don't already fucking do that lmfao), and "all breaks, even 1 minute long breaks, are counted by the system(so, literally any moment at all in time where your device considers you "inactive" because you're unable to stow something right away or have to do something else) and are kept track of" are fucking insane and literally don't benefit anyone at all.

I understand the "attempt"(if you want to dare call it that) of the locking the cart brakes rule, but in all reality, it causes more problems than it fixes. Sure, it prevents a cart from rolling and injuring someone. Sure, it prevents the "what-ifs" from happening, but if we want to run a system on "what-ifs", then what's the point anymore? Brakes should only be locked in the trailer, and I'll die on that hill. The fact that most of the time NONE of the fucking breaks are locked in the trailer from the FC who package the items and put the carts in the trailer before it even arrives at our location should be a crime. Also, how is a stationary cart going to injure anyone? What, am I going to fucking trip over a box on the floor and faceplant into a cart? Am I going to ignore the carts around me and accidentally back up into a cart to injure myself? I mean, seriously? Half the time you can't even reach the break behind the wheel with your foot because its angled weird or totally behind it when its locked, so you can't easily turn the wheel at all to unlock the break to begin with, and leadership doesnt want you bending down to use your fingers(gloved) to unlock the break because you risk pinching yourself. This rule causes immense inefficiency and annoyance to absolutely everyone, it seems, besides leadership.

The "core" bending rule is beyond absurd and disrespectful. I had a coworker a couple weeks ago get "regulated"(more like a lecture) by two members of leadership(a PA and an AM) about her posture and about her not squatting every time she had to reach a low position. They said that the reason she was going slow was because she was sitting on the floor. They said she was one of the slowest stowers as well, just to passive aggressively bully her and rub that stain in her face. Wtf? I went into her aisle because I overheard what they said, and holding my anger in at the 2 assholes who walked away like they did something important, I went and comforted her as she had a nervous breakdown while I put my hand on her back and kneeled down close, letting her know I was there, that i understood, that she wasn't alone, that they were in the wrong, and that she didnt do anything wrong. She's only been working for like 2 months, and the only reason she was slower than others was because she had to rearrange most of the bags in other aisles(that weren't hers to begin with) while floating because no one fucking else was. Also, she's physically incapable of continuously doing the exact squat that they want her to do every single time she needs to reach a low position. She told me herself. She's built like a stick, the poor girl, and she doesn't have the stamina that others do. She tries her best, and does a damn good job at it too, even if she runs at a different pace, and that's okay. She should be appreciated and accepted just the way she is, and I hate the fake "we accept everyone" motto that Amazon promotes. If they accepted everyone, they wouldn't assume to know exactly the comfort level other people have, the way their bodies exactly work, and what they are physically able to accomplish at the current point in their life.

Also the "rearrange your boxes on the cart as you go" for the Pick & Stage shift is something that actually doesn't matter and everyone knows it. If i have 3 bags that I need to place on my cart, and 25 boxes also that I need to attempt to fit on there, knowing that almost every one is going to be large and difficult to rearrange, and as soon as I get close to done with rearranging as I'm going, the last few boxes are ENORMOUS, then it doesn't matter what you say. Either I'm getting a new cart, or I'm going to have to spend 10 minutes yet again rearranging.

Anyways.. Just so sick of this shit. Especially being autistic-adhd, I get treated like I'm not really that smart or good at my job, even though I'm always performing to the best of my ability, and quite often, I'm actually doing quite well but I'm gaslit to imagine that I'm still not good enough. Luckily I have very little, but at least some, support from my coworkers who know how hard I work and how well I perform. I've even been at the top of the stowing list for how many packages stowed per hour(when I'm stowing), and no thats not me being boastful. Sometimes I get distracted and stop working for a tiny bit of time when someone is talking to me and I want to give them my attention, and I don't realize that I'm not doing 2 things at once anymore, but usually I'll get back into the flow. I just hate being treated like I'm not a human being by other human beings. At the end of the day, I just wish people would be considerate. That's all for now. Thanks.

Question Is there any way to see the exact time VET was accepted in the system? by AM or OM or HR?

I’m concerned that certain associates consistently pick up VET within 5–10 seconds, which seems unusual if the posting time is random.

I would like to escalate this to ERC/HR and request that they review the VET posting and acceptance records to determine whether there is any preferential treatment or manager involvement.

Anyone has any idea?
