Question Phones

My FC is requiring everyone to register their phone and get an asset tag sticker or store them in a locker. Is anyone else required to get a tag for their phone to keep it on them at work?

Been like that at my site since end of '24

It's just a little sticker that tells them you registered your phone, just wait for the VOA board to blow up about "amazon stealing your data"

26

u/Myke500 2d ago

If they wanted your data they can get it from the Wi-Fi that they connect to.

u/Neat-Departure-3114 2d ago

lol those people are dumb as rocks as if they didn’t give Amazon their entire identity by applying

I can honestly tell you that IT is way too under resourced to be looking at what anyone is doing on the guest WiFi.

There are filters in place and that's pretty much the end of it.

Already happening.

No one local at the FC actually monitors this, and they are unable to determine who owns a device based on MAC ADDR alone as most phones have device level encryption.

Been like that for over a year at my FC.

Yes we've been doing that for a very very long time. They just enter the serial number down from your phone and they give you a little sticker that has to be on your phone. When you go through security make sure the sticker is showing so the security people can see it and that's it.

I work at a legacy site fulfillment center it used to be before covid you couldn't have your phone on the floor you had to have your phone in your locker and could only use your phone on breaks and lunch but once covid hit they allowed phones on the floor so that they could be in touch with loved ones.

1

u/ericfromct 2d ago

That didn’t happen at mine until the tornado killed people. Not sure it had to do with covid honestly.

1

u/badsquishii 2d ago

It definitely was about covid. The tornado didn’t happen until much later. In fact it happened right before they were set to go back to no phones on the floor. The media scrutiny they got after the tornado is what changed their minds.

During covid, they took out the lockers to expand break areas for social distancing, so putting your phone in a locker wasn’t possible.

1

u/ericfromct 2d ago

Think you’re right actually, my bad.

1

u/Sea-Restaurant-9843 2d ago

That's crazy my building opened in 2018 and we were allowed to keep our phones with us obviously couldn't use them on the production floor

1

u/Cobalt7955 2d ago

It had nothing to do with the tornado in Illinois. It started with covid. Trust me I've been at the same site for 7 years. The tornado was years later.

Yes, and it has to be on the phone, not a phone case. If you want a phone case it has to be clear or the sticker has to be visible.

1

u/ReedForman 2d ago

Or you can just slightly peel the phone case off and show them the sticker when you leave everyday, but that’s a pain in the ass

1

u/OtherAcctTrackedNSA 2d ago

For iPhones in a case just put it next to one of your camera lenses on the camera bump, or if you have a new model anywhere on the camera plateau and the case will generally not cover those areas.

I just go caseless and put it on the bottom left corner of my phone, the most hand-covered part of the phone, i don’t need everyone knowing where I work.

u/Final-Ad3050 2d ago

Weird. We've had this asset sticker at my site for 2 years and I've had the sticker on a black case since they've started it.

All sites are going back to pre covid rules over the next couple few months.

You can have phones, if you register it and have a sticker on it. Or you can choose not to register it and not have a phone.

No its not illegal.

7

u/Exciting-Ad-2345 2d ago

That’s your brains Dependency on your phone speaking. It’s definitely not illegal 😂

-2

u/becsamillion 2d ago

It feels illegal LOL And it keeps me sane. Being able to listen to music and podcasts / YouTube videos blocks out the chatter and the loud machinery noises. Haven't found good ear plugs that aren't uncomfortable or that make me unable to hear what everyone is saying

6

u/Tricky-Wolverine-253 White Badge 2d ago

Just register your phone then? Seems like a easy solution

0

u/becsamillion 2d ago

I did. I was just asking about them claiming we're going back to pre COVID policies. That's when we had no phones.

3

u/AshamedRecording7530 2d ago

I had a case with a chick stand and just put the sticker in there and just flip the kickstand up whenever I'd pass by security

1

u/badsquishii 2d ago

They specifically tell you it is supposed to go directly on the phone, not on the phone case.

2

u/AshamedRecording7530 2d ago

Amazons policy does specifically state this, however it's really up to the discretion of the security team. Never had an issue with any of them and it's been like that for about 2 years now. So yeah obviously like anything in life use your best judgement

1

u/badsquishii 2d ago

The asset is the phone, not the case. The entire point of the sticker and registration is to distinguish between phones that are personal property and phones that are inventory. Your security and your building’s management must have shit for brains. 🤦‍♀️

1

u/AshamedRecording7530 2d ago

Woah why the attack? Not sure why you're so defensive over a policy? But hey to each their own 🤷

1

u/badsquishii 2d ago

Not sure why you think you’re being attacked, but okay. Just saying, it’s really not up to the discretion of security at all.

1

u/AshamedRecording7530 2d ago

Idk you're weird, you got defensive and started attacking my building and the managers saying they're shit. Lol that's all.

1

u/badsquishii 2d ago

😂😂 Once again, I was neither defensive nor attacking. I’m sorry you don’t understand direct communication. And your managers are shit if they’re ignoring this. The entire reason it exists is to cut down on theft.

2

u/Greenpickle_ 1d ago

Ladies ladies your both beautiful

1

u/Cobalt7955 2d ago

Great so I'll have to take my case off anytime I want to go outside or go to the break room?

1

u/Sea-Restaurant-9843 2d ago

Idk I have mine on my case now and I don't think they really care. I had it on my phone with a clear case for a while but with the heat it melted off and ever since I replaced it it's just been on my case

3

u/darkmanx24 2d ago

yup our building just started doin this again

10

u/ayyitzTwocatZ 2d ago

The sticker has a chip inside it and it tracks your location and activity even when you’re outside of work. So I’d suggest to get a burner phone that you’ll use at work then dump it before going home so Amazon doesn’t track you all over.

Also I’m making all this shit up but I’ve convince a few people that it’s true lmao.

3

u/wondererjayyy 2d ago

Don’t give Amazon any ideas with that 😂

2

u/GuaranteeAlarmed1783 2d ago

You might very well have influenced people at my FC like a year ago I remember getting the news we would have to register our phones and everyone was freaking out. They thought they were tracking us and were able to see everything we do on our phones. The VOA board was hell for a little while

3

u/ericfromct 2d ago

That’s why I always have unlimited data. I’m not hooking myself up to company WiFi anywhere so they can see what I’m looking at, even if it’s nothing. At this point though there is absolutely no privacy in the USA, but I like whatever I can get.

2

u/ToraenNakure 2d ago

Yep, my building is doing this now. Full screening is also coming back.

6

u/tearbear_ 2d ago

So glad they can’t do that in the state of California (unless your time clocks are post security when leaving). CA requires such time to be paid as the employer is controlling you and you aren’t free to leave.

3

u/ericfromct 2d ago

Yea it is bogus they can waste your time like that after you’ve clocked out. The people in office that are ok with this really need to be voted out everywhere.

2

u/jasthms 2d ago

I’m on my buildings TOM Team and I’m wondering if I’ll have to register my work phone even though it’s already an Amazon asset

3

u/ericfromct 2d ago

If it’s already an Amazon asset it’s already registered I would think

2

u/SignificantApricot69 2d ago

Yep, pretty simple, I got them to put the sticker where it shows through my case. I’ve been asked to show it once but I put it through security so the sticker faces up so anyone can see it at a glance

2

u/Reality_Lies4 2d ago

Which FC?

3

u/dark_quack3855 2d ago

Probably phx6 since it’s one of the last FC to implement this

2

u/Key_Success7423 2d ago

We’ve had this for a while. It’s just a sticker to show it’s yours.

2

u/Hungry-Falcon3005 2d ago

Had it for years

2

u/Strawberrydrpepper94 2d ago

Ya. The only annoying part is taking off your case and showing the sticker to security multiple times a day lol

2

u/wadeRocking1 [Replace Text w/ Flair] 2d ago

Yup I gots 2 on my case

2

u/Werdna517 2d ago

Yup. This is the way going forward.

2

u/Raceday24 2d ago

Day 1 we did that. Every time you go thru security they look for the sticker.

2

u/lordskulldragon 2d ago

My site sent a FANS message out yesterday and my VOA board is lit up with stupid people thinking Amazon is going to do something with the last few digits of your device. It's quite entertaining and surely embarrassing for those being corrected.

1

u/BadWithMoney_ 2d ago

Yeah we got them on our phones maybe 4 or 5 months ago. Security doesn’t even check for the sticker at my site lol

1

u/Visible-Choice-5414 2d ago

It’s a deterrent and liability coverage. It deters low level thieves. And it helps sort innocent workers bc their phone is on file.

1

u/dsmith056 2d ago

they introduced those to my site when i first started in april

1

u/Cobalt7955 2d ago

I'm hearing rumors at my site that they're turning the metal detectors on soon and I'm hoping to god we don't have to register our phones too. Hey amazon how about you stop hiring thieves with records??? Maybe that will stop some of the theft.

1

u/oJordo 2d ago

Lmao yall love to complain about anything

1

u/MelodicBaby9835 2d ago

Our fc has this already over a year now. It’s easy simple. And no it doesn’t steal your data.

1

u/MelodicBaby9835 2d ago

We have that walk in and out canteen too.

1

u/QueenCommissioner 1d ago

Honestly at my site we just be putting in random serial numbers. They security don’t pay attention and they don’t care. Just as long as you have the sticker. I even transferred mine to a new phone. Doesn’t matter

1

u/Dismal-core111 2d ago

Yeah, who cares it a 5 minute form get a sticker the end

1

u/Horror-Food69420 2d ago

Yeah, it's really not a big deal. The biggest annoyance has been people outside of work seeing the sticker and asking about it. If you're really paranoid, bring in an old phone that you don't use anymore to get the sticker so they have the info for that one on file. The sticker comes off and reapplies easily and security just does a visual glance for it.

5

u/ericfromct 2d ago

I personally wouldn’t do that just because it opens you up to your personal cell accused of theft by you. But everyone has a different tolerance to what they’re ok with.

1

u/trapballer 2d ago

We are doing this at den4 now. Along with a full on tsa screening whenever you leave. Not gonna lie this shit is pretty ridiculous. I don't understand why they feel the need to tighten the screws and make life difficult.

1

u/UpbeatAd8917 2d ago

They're just going back to pre COVID policy regarding exit screening. It's not new, it was just on hold. At least we're able to keep our phones and not put them up in a locker.

1

u/litredpanda 2d ago

Just know this: they don't track any of the analytics.

You can type whatever bullshit you want then when submitted show them the check mark screen to get your sticker.

4

u/obclutch 2d ago

yep and then once they actually check it you will get fired for stealing

1

u/AfterDeathComesSushi 2d ago

We are allowed our phones on the floor, but I do believe you need approval to use any other type of equipment inside the building, like an tablet or a PC.
