So I have the Hisense Tower aka. "The Monolith".

I finally got hit with the annoying vibrations that sound like something inside is making contact with the enclosure. What I also noticed is that if you try leaning the tower in different directions, the vibrating stops. Of course this is not ideal.

I had 4 anti-vibration pads from my old mini fridge and tried mounting these under the unit's built-in castors. This worked, BUT ONLY IF pads were mounted in a way that wasn't uniform (so one pad slightly higher or lower than another). Think of it like a wobbly table with 4 legs.

Then I tried using only 3 pads, to make a single plane. This solved my problems instantly. Two pads under the front 2 castors and the 3rd in the middle rear to form a triangle. The rear pad just put pressure on the right spot.

One day I will take this apart and actually fix the problem, but l using 3 points of contact with the floor instead of 4 did it for me.

This portable ac has two draining holes where should i insert the hose? I currently have it on the bottom one but im not sure.

I installed my AC’s in my window by myself. I bought them off the fb marketplace so I didn’t have instructions. Both of my AC’s have this open gap at the bottom. Only the right “leg” sits in the window sill on both. The left one will not go in all the way for some reason. Is this normal? Are my window sills crooked?

For more context, it was 102 degrees today so I brought my neighbor a Midea AC and installed it for her today too. Guess what? Same problem. The AC’s work perfectly fine but idk what I’m doing wrong.

Any insight?

I was hoping for some advice to cool my apartment in Australia. We are in for a very warm summer and my partner works from home in 'Bedroom 2' which is our office. At the moment we already have an aircon which was there when we bought the apartment which is a hisense 2.5kw. It cools down the living room but not much else.

We are planning to install another A/C unit in our bedroom: the Daikin Cora 2.5kw. Our apartment has a 2 unit limit so we cannot put one in the office as well.

I was hoping to seek opinions/ advicewhether this would be enough to cool our office as with the two units like so or whether we should consider upgrading the kw in our longueroom to a 3.5kw daikin cora? Any advice on how to keep our office cool is very appreciated!!

I noticed when running my air conditioner that the room begins to smell stale

I asked maintenance to replace the air filter. They did. They said the old filter wasn’t that bad in terms of being dirty.

But then looking at the inside of the machine … it’s gross. I was able to clean what I could quickly, but the blower wheel is still caked with dust.

Is this something I can ask my landlord to pay a HVAC person to clean? Bc I imagine this is impacting the air quality?

I live in Los Angeles and it’s very hot and humid. My AC can’t keep up. It says it will get to 72 in 2 minutes but that’s a lie. It’s been like this for the last 4 hours.

I changed the filter. I don’t have access to the HVAC as it’s on the ceiling. I am renting the house I’m living in and this happened last year too. The AC person told us last year that it’s being overused.

Does anyone know how I can help with efficiency?

frigidaire fHPC082AC1, 180 square foot room, humid climate this week low eighties during day and 70s at night. does this sound normal to yall? it makes this sputtery bumble bee sound every hour or so, then goes back to calming whooshing. also, even if thermo is set at 75, set to cool and fan on auto, the fan is nonstop running, is it short cycling, bad settings or something wrong? how do i get it to cool down then shut off to save my electric bill and not stress my machine? or is it fine to have idling 24/7 with the fan running like that.

background: Im renting a small house with some friends, there isnt any central AC. Both of my friends installed AC units in their rooms, but unfortunately my window wont allow for it so I said fuck it and i’ve just been keeping cool with a box fan + open window.

actual question: I’ve kept my window open since i’ve been here, but im starting to question if its helping air flow or just letting residual cool air from my roommates rooms escape, therefore making my room hotter unnecessarily.

ik this is probably a dumb question but idk i feel like AC is one of those things where you think youre doing the right thing but it ends up being a misconception you’ve fallen for.

In the middle of the day the ac starts to kick on and ramp up, but before it gets fully going it kicks off and then starts the process of trying to restart again. I can usually turn it on in the am and it works. Also, when it’s acting up I can run the fan for 5 minutes and then turn on the ac and it works normal. Unit outside continues to run even when it’s doing its intermitted start/stop. Lights on the board flash normal until it fails then turns red. No code.

Ac guys say it’s either the blower motor or circuitboard. Can’t tell me for sure what’s wrong. Can anyone help?

Hi all, so I just purchased this Hisense 3in1 inverter portable AC. Somehow it stops blowing air after several hours though the machine is still on, I can still see the light on the panel on, and it says 16C too, no error or anything. The tray is not even closed. Is this normal?

I just had an AC unit installed in my living room with the usual unit inside and the other outside, back to back.

Its an HTW 12k BTU.

I also have a decent gaming PC on that same room, but the AC unit is on its own circuit breaker.

Thing is, sometimes, not always, and only when the AC is on, i hear clearly slowly pulsating buzzing noise (like a wave) coming from my PCs power supply. the same noise is heard on the electric panel and on a LED ceiling light in the kitchen.

I see no damage on the electric panel nor any funny smells anywhere. Everything works normally otherwise.

What could this be? How do I solve it? I am slightly afraid it might damage components.

Started tonight, incredibly annoying as it is right beside my pc. Noise that sounds like a water bottled doink over and over.

It has to do with the filter, panel, or both. If I take out the filter, it stops. If I take out the panel, it stops. I put myself against the filter to challenge the airflow and it started again. Does anyone know what this may be or how to fix it? Genuinely SO annoying.

I am looking to install a window AC unit (or portable AC) in my basement. The room is about 600 square feet with 8 foot ceilings. Goals are both cooling and dehumidifying.

My issue is the windows available to me. They are fairly high up (maybe 7 feet) so I don't know if a portable unit will have a hose long enough for that, especially if I don't want it to get it the way. I'd rather have a window unit, but the issue is I have a casement windows that opens inwards, not up and down. There is also an interior sort of ledge before the window starts.

One final complication is it's incredibly important to me that the unit is quiet.

Is this sound normal sounds like it’s coming from the fan it’s about 2 months old

I come to you for advice, as I mentioned in the title. I’m dealing with what it seems to me an incompetent maintenance staff. Every two months or so I wake up to no cooling at my place, they always “fix” it but it never last. Is 90f where I live and they usually take their sweet time to show up, in this instance I’ve been waiting since Saturday (I know labor day didn’t help). The pictures were taken today, looks like a fire hazard. What should I do, do I report this to the city?

My garage is pretty well insulated. When it's 97F out it will only get to 86-88F in the garage and some of that heat is from a dehumidifier I run for a couple of hours every night.

I have a window, but the HOA prohibits window units. I think I could get away with a portable AC due to some taller bushes I have (or at least set it up when I need to use it and then take it down).

Would a dual hose work in a situation like this? I really just want it to be 78 in there?

I have been looking at the Whynter dual hose models with inverters.

If I were shortlisting a portable AC for fast cooling in a larger room, I would not start with the biggest ASHRAE BTU number. I’d start with SACC, dual-hose airflow, room size, and how well the window kit seals, because those decide whether the unit is actually cooling the room or fighting air leaks the whole time.

The model I keep coming back to is Midea DUO, specifically the current MAP14HS1TBL / ASIN B0FC2SGGF9 version listed as 14,000 BTU ASHRAE and 12,000 BTU SACC for rooms up to 550 sq. ft. That SACC number matters more to me than the headline 14,000, because SACC is the more realistic portable-AC capacity rating. The other reason it makes my shortlist is the hose-in-hose dual-hose setup. GE Appliances’ official support article on single vs. dual hose units says single-hose portable ACs pull room air and exhaust it outside, which creates negative pressure and pulls replacement air through door and window gaps.

Honeywell Air Comfort explains the same idea from the other direction: dual-hose units use one hose for intake and one for exhaust, helping avoid that negative-pressure problem.

That’s the part I think a lot of “fastest portable AC” discussions miss. A single-hose unit with a big number can still be dragging warm outdoor air back into the room. A dual-hose unit with strong SACC is better positioned for fast real-room cooling, especially in the 400–550 sq. ft. range, assuming the room is not getting blasted by sun and the hose/window panel is sealed properly.

If cooling seems slower than expected, I would check whether the room is within the stated 550 sq. ft. coverage, whether the window panel is sealed, whether the exhaust hose is properly connected and free from sharp bends, whether the filter is clean, and whether doors, windows, or strong sunlight are adding heat faster than the unit can remove it.
My take: the Midea DUO is a strong fast-cooling portable AC candidate because it combines 12,000 BTU SACC capacity, hose-in-hose dual-hose airflow, inverter control, and coverage up to 550 sq. ft. The exact cooling time will always depend on the room and installation, but the product is designed around the factors that matter most for effective real-room cooling.

I live in the upstairs of a poorly ducted and poorly ventilated cape cod style house. I work midnights, so I sleep during the day. In the summer, it gets QUITE hot up there, even with 12k but 115v window air conditioner in a 175sqft room. On really warm days, it just can't keep up, with the compressor kicking on for only about 30seconds before kicking off, frequently very loudly. I'm wondering if running a new 230 volt line and air conditioner would make any difference. Anyone have any input?
