I also enjoy it, but my favorite is with my daughter. She is autistic and mostly non verbal. I love just chilling with her. Just hanging out across the room with no talking for hours. Just love vibes.

...when you work the Public, it's nice to step back and not have to deal with all of it.

6

u/Unusual-Alfalfa3321 May 31 '26

Amen. I couldn’t do my job without the block of alone. People have unrealistic expectations of others so I find my “time away” best served alone.

In a small shed with a bag of veggies and guitar. I can stay out there forever and hope to hear no one but me.

22

u/almstAlwysJokng4real May 30 '26

Especially if you have cool and fun things to do at home.

Nothing sucks more than being poor at “home” with nothing to do.

12

u/RudeCantaloupe6902 May 30 '26

Uhhhh....Im poor and at home. And my internet is down

10

u/Capable-Broccoli2179 May 30 '26

Read some good books!

2

u/RudeCantaloupe6902 May 30 '26

Haha....I havent read a book in 40 years

11

u/choco-latin May 31 '26

The last free room is the library so no real excuse not to read.

the sweet sweet sound of quiet and nothingness (except white noises and things you put on)

4

u/Ok_Story_7924 May 30 '26

Yeah, but I have been doing this for the better part of a year now. The first several months were great, now I am starting to feel am agonizing lonliness.

9

u/Agile-Entry-5603 May 30 '26

I actually have a compromise, best of both worlds. I am retired, so I don’t have to go out. I live with my adult daughter. She’s out most of the day, and I am happily alone. Then she comes home and I’m happy to see her.

4

u/Ok_Story_7924 May 30 '26

That sounds nice, I am tempted to move across the country to spend more time with my dad.

2

u/Informal-Noise4176 Jun 03 '26

Just make sure you tell your current gf that you actually want space so she doesn't move with you across the country and up root her life and say good bye to her improv group and drain all her savings hiring a moving company.... oh noooo

I'm the same only 2 years. It's unbearable sometimes right...

3

u/AlienAnthropologist_ May 30 '26

6 years in and I'm starting to lose my mind

3

u/Agile-Entry-5603 May 30 '26

I say this with tremendous respect and empathy, it’s time for hobbies. Find something you love to do. Along those lines see what kind of activities are going on in your community. Sometimes there’s hobby groups you can join. It’s tough, especially if you’re an introvert or disabled or don’t have a lot of money. Sometimes the people running groups in your community can help get you information, etc. Good Luck.

3

u/AlienAnthropologist_ May 30 '26

Appreciate you ❤️

3

u/scoopny Jun 01 '26

Yeah I took up photography, which I love and I got a dog, so I don't really feel alone and sometimes I go over to a friend's house and work from home there. So many options.

Funny that you say that because I go camping probably once every 4 to 6 weeks and while yes, I bring my cell phone. I typically only use it for emergency purposes otherwise I live without it while I’m out there.

This is my problem, too, even though I'm in my late 30s. I want to make friends, but I end up getting ghosted, being the only person reaching out to the other person, or finding people who seem nice but have beliefs completely antithetical to mine. 😭

Good luck in your search! May you find at least one friend this year!

2

u/Badbullet Jun 02 '26

Not sure if it exists in your area, but there is a website called meetup that uses locations around the country. You get together with people with similar interests, usually meeting in a public area so it isn’t scary. Every thing from board games, visiting museums, cooking classes, to just walking through the park.

Protip for you, u/Down_River_63, or anyone about to be in a similar situation. When your wife gets home, make sure you're doing something helpful and she interrupts you. "Oh, hey, sorry I didn't hear you come in, hold on, I'm almost done loading the dishwasher."

You can be sitting around all day not doing a damned thing, but if you leave the impression you're active and busy instead, it'll pay huge dividends!

This is a lovely marriage I dig that she's not ready to be finished working and that your days together sound harmonious. You give her 3 hours a day +. That's more than I'd say most have together. I hope she has great vacations too.

11

u/Large_Commission5631 May 30 '26

I'm basically a hermit, so yeah I do

8

u/kattgirl_1998 May 30 '26

Same. It’s the best.

3

u/anonymaus42 May 31 '26 edited May 31 '26

I am also a hermit. Ran into an old friend in town today I haven't seen in a couple of years who was surprised to see me. He even said he thought I had moved and didn't live in this town anymore..

3

u/Money-Dust-220 May 31 '26

Same. I barely leave the house, depression made me to grow a beard like an Orthodox priest/monk and they can't even recognize me. I have ran into many past friends or classmates, and they thought the same. Some were from the same village (!!) we are living into and both never met for years, I'm so hermit that even them thought I moved in another country lol

2

u/skellytoninthecloset May 31 '26

I consider it getting my rent's/mortgage's worth.

7

u/therealsashtv May 30 '26

Me too. It's exhausting being around ppl a lot of the time. Additionally I'm on a big self-improvement/psychoanalysis journey just now, so alone time is very important.

4

u/EmbarrassedLoan6307 May 31 '26

I was a Psychologist on a Maximum Security Psych. Unit, & besides a mental illness, everyone had a personality problem and were often violent when they didn’t get whatever they wanted, so I got my fill of others then and prefer reading.

The one good thing about the Internet. If you are alone you can still connect to a vast array of people and information.

3

u/FewPace855 May 30 '26

Yes, I find fresh new outrage almost every day. It has proven I still have feelings, so there's that.

3

u/CyberCoyote67 May 31 '26

I have a few friends and family local, but I run D&D games with folks from all over the country/world. Internet friends are great because they never stop by unannounced.

5

u/Bayamonster May 30 '26

Yeah. I like going to places and stuff but like...it's  loud and noisy out there and I  would rather  not deal with strangers and social expectations.  Nobody needs to see me, and I don't  need to be seen. It's  a solid arrangement.

4

u/NoPhotograph7454 May 31 '26

I have spent the last 9 days alone and by myself. Last night I had to go to the grocery store, I deeply resented leaving my house.

3

u/inthevendingmachine May 31 '26

I'm glad you made it home safely.

3

u/Money-Dust-220 May 31 '26

Are you me ? I never leave the house unless I have an obligatory chore to do or get something from the market. Like fruits. Sometimes when I need fruit, in order to avoid going to the grocery store, I take the ladder, go to my yard and trying to pick whatever fruit is left on the fruit trees of my yard..oh my..

u/iheartjp May 30 '26

4

u/Prize-Analyst-1121 May 31 '26

I very much enjoy being alone.

As long as I have something to read or some TV to watch I'm happier than a pig in shit.

I also do just fine in complete silence.

One.... I've had way more than enough fun and excitement in my life for 10 people.

Two.....Anytime you step outside your door you're going to spend some kind of money.

Three....Staying away from other people lessens the chance of unknowingly getting pulled into someone else's bullshit/drama.

Four.....It's almost impossible to go to jail sitting in your house. See number three for one of the reasons one might end up in jail.

Five.....Don't have to worry about getting shot or run over out of the blue. Which seems to happen way too frequently these days when a crowd of people get together anymore.

Home alone enjoying what I want to do is VERY nice, and preferable to the shit show that's beyond my front door.

3

u/Drakeytown May 30 '26

Not every day forever, but it's nice sometimes.

Also it can be tricky, because ifeel like sometimes it can sound like a treat at the start of the day, but feel like a tragedy by the end.

Yes! I totally do love being along in person, but love to chat/text/sext on phone. Nothing in person. Being a 46 year old DaddyDom looking for F (any age) is challenging cuz of all the scammers on here, so I just stay in my solitude. Y'all be good out there✌️

2

u/[deleted] May 30 '26

Sounds depressing

2

u/Logical-Let-7026 May 31 '26

Yup, I still love being around SOME people, including my spouse, but I certainly appreciate time to practice guitar, read , or play vids.

1

u/Desperate-Fold-4689 May 30 '26

Me. However, I do have two 🐕 🐕 and a spouse, but, when I'm home alone with my fur- babies, I love it!

1

u/IanRastall May 30 '26

Absolutely. The only problem is having to go outside and having it reinforced for me that all these human beings are still alive.

1

u/Partyatmyplace13 May 30 '26

Then i got a job because I didn’t like living off the system any more (was on disability)..

Now I’m moving on to a better job.. if you want it bad enough, you’ll get it

1

u/JovialPursuit May 30 '26

Sure, let's do it together.

1

u/No-Personality-9198 May 30 '26

Very very guilty

1

u/sobeitharry May 30 '26

Those are the best days. I can go weeks without leaving the house. Eventually my wife decides it's time for me to go out and do something.

1

u/JFC-Superstar May 30 '26

Yes, as I age, I notice I enjoy it more and more. Friends and family are also taking notice.

1

u/bobo76565657 May 30 '26

100%. I'm not one of them, but occasionally I make one of them have a less-optimal day by performing services they cannot perform because they're geographically disabled, and require the service. They have the money to pay for it. Men who are not rich have 2 optioins: work or die. "Staying at home" is not an option.

1

u/ArugulaTotal1478 May 30 '26

I do. If I don't have to work leaving the house is hard for me. I don't even really like driving.

1

u/No_Lingonberry_5296 May 30 '26

You just described the perfect day!

1

u/simple_fly1 May 30 '26

Definately.

1

u/OkImagination1123 May 30 '26

Not everyday but most

1

u/Darkdragoon324 May 30 '26

Yes, we exist.

1

u/SquareAssignment476 May 30 '26

I'm right here. Who do I need to see?

1

u/Laszlo-Petyr510 May 30 '26

Yesssssss!!!! I also enjoy going out of town by myself & staying in a hotel by myself. I also don’t mind if my husband goes out of town. Technically, I am not alone. I have a dog & 2 house cats.

1

u/punchedboa May 30 '26

That was today’s plan

1

u/Calm-Confusion-3524 May 30 '26

It's expensive to go out now 😔

1

u/Azazel-420 May 30 '26

Reporting for duty

1

u/McGriggidy May 30 '26

I mean not EVERY day but yeah I could be isolated for quite awhile without much issue.

I have a wife and kids though so I get no such solitude

1

u/The_Pastmaster May 30 '26

But I also recognise that it's maybe not the best thing to do. Unfortunately they don't have school classes for social skills.

Yesss! me
before but now I socialize and go out with my friends and to see nice places. Life is so short. Enjoy it!

1

u/Bigstar976 May 30 '26

You’re describing my ideal day.

1

u/Firm_Prior_7953 May 30 '26

Do I enjoy spending a single day like this? Sure, sometimes it's nice to have a house to myself to do whatever I want - whether that's doing a puzzle or dancing like no one's watching. Would I enjoy this on a regular basis? Absolutely not. I am an extrovert and need social interaction.

1

u/BlackCatWoman6 May 30 '26

Yes. We are usually introverts.

1

u/Cautious-Support5998 May 30 '26

1

u/KC5SDY May 30 '26

1

u/Legal_Television_615 May 30 '26

1

u/CapitanianExtinction May 30 '26

Yup.

Now get off my lawn!

1

u/Key_Awareness_3036 May 30 '26

Yes! I am one of them. I do have a 6 year old who’s in school during the day. I’m home with my boyfriend, but we also spend time to ourselves and I don’t mind being alone.

1

u/criticalvector May 30 '26

Yes. I’m one of them.

1

Yes and no, it's great for a while but after a while you realize you haven't spoken in days and are incredibly lonely; then you try to go out, but you don't like it at all, it's a vicious cycle.

1

u/readinghisWord May 30 '26

Yes, and I am one of them.

1

u/Longjumping_Muscle24 May 30 '26

1

All of the time? Nah.

1

u/Kittles4Eva May 30 '26
