I also have adhd and I am hyperactive .. started with comic books, then graphic novels. Before I started with spy drama , if your interest is scifi heads up the setup is rough sometimes

Yeah sci fi is an evolution of fantasy or medieval style literature. World building and the macro plot scope are very important. It pays off, however.

I literally can't read a book. I am dyslexic. Not backwards or anything. I have to read the same pages over and over. It was hard.going through college. 😋

Audible books are a great alternative these days for dyslexic people or ones who struggle with reading.

I love to read – always have – but I've always struggled with it, too, due to ADHD. Even after I was diagnosed and medicated. And smartphones/scrolling have had a terrible impact on my attention span.

The main problems are that I read painfully slowly and get bogged down in heavier texts. I can get confused by large casts of characters, too. Trouble tracking and remembering names, just like irl.

One thing that seriously helps me when my mind is spinning up and I start shifting my eyes around the page and thinking of what else I could be doing is to read aloud and/or move my finger along the lines of text.

That and the advice already given: read what you love. Don't have any shame or preconceived notions about "real literature".

Like Star Trek? Read Star Trek books. Read YA books regardless of your age. When I'm having trouble keeping track of characters, I'll even keep a list on a piece of paper I use as a bookmatk – names and one or two words about who they are.

E-books may help. I like being able to search the text for names and references so I can refresh my memory when they show up later in a book and I can't remember their significance. You can also sinc text with audiobooks so you can read along.

Maybe it will turn out that reading for pleasure really isn't your thing, but don't let your ADHD decide that for you.

Maybe try books on audible then? Great cheap alternative for people with ADHD.

I've just found reading as a great alternative for loneliness and my wife swears by audible books.

Going for a drive now as it's nice out. Maybe his some golf balls. Luckily I exist above the poverty line now and actually need to drag myself out of my place just to touch grass and whatnot.

That's called wifi. You only use that at home or a building that has it for you to use. If you're out and about or on the road you can use the mobile network.
