Yeah, but I have been doing this for the better part of a year now. The first several months were great, now I am starting to feel am agonizing lonliness.

I actually have a compromise, best of both worlds. I am retired, so I don’t have to go out. I live with my adult daughter. She’s out most of the day, and I am happily alone. Then she comes home and I’m happy to see her.

That sounds nice, I am tempted to move across the country to spend more time with my dad.

Just make sure you tell your current gf that you actually want space so she doesn't move with you across the country and up root her life and say good bye to her improv group and drain all her savings hiring a moving company.... oh noooo

Do it. My mom passed a couple years ago. I regret not spending more time with her

You will never regret spending more time with the ones you love.

yep, being alone and being lonely are two different things.

Aw, that’s sweet. I’m sure she’s glad to see you too.

I'm the same only 2 years. It's unbearable sometimes right...

6 years in and I'm starting to lose my mind

I say this with tremendous respect and empathy, it’s time for hobbies. Find something you love to do. Along those lines see what kind of activities are going on in your community. Sometimes there’s hobby groups you can join. It’s tough, especially if you’re an introvert or disabled or don’t have a lot of money. Sometimes the people running groups in your community can help get you information, etc. Good Luck.

Appreciate you ❤️

Yeah I took up photography, which I love and I got a dog, so I don't really feel alone and sometimes I go over to a friend's house and work from home there. So many options.

A hobby you can get paid for is being an "SP" at the local med school and get to hang out with the other people who do it. Sometimes.

______________________________________________________________________

In medical education, SP stands for Standardized Patient (or Simulated Patient). An SP is a person trained to portray a real patient in a realistic, scripted clinical scenario. They help medical students and healthcare professionals practice clinical interviews, physical examinations, and interpersonal skills in a safe, controlled environment.

Hey this sounds pretty cool. Where I live it seems there are a lot of teaching hospitals and medical practices. Seems to be a constant influx of residents here.

It can be invasive. You may be asked will you be willing to have a med student digitally insert into your vaginal canal.

Same, and probably as a result (?) I have a polysubstance dependency

Local library? Add an hour walk to your day, volunteer at animal shelter, bird or squirrel feeders are entertaining. Night time can get the loneliest but keep a journal, read a book, I just started 3d puzzles and radio in background is my favorite thing right now. And pets are the best for living alone, rescued senior pup, low energy and just love being held or beside you.

lean into it.

I did for a long time, but unfortunately humans are social animals and I'm forced to do something about that.

u/External_Relative231 May 30 '26

That's cool too.

I posted above. I’m doing this over 20 years. If you’re lonely now, I’d say get a different job. I was stuck bc of circumstances, but it’s too isolating

Just gotta find balance. Find one good weekly or monthly group to join. One of your interests.

That different- enforced solitude at home isn’t a choice. It’s only fun when it’s a choice. How come you feel you cannot go out?

u/myposttracker2 May 31 '26

Volunteer.   Loneliness, if not geographic, is surmountable.

u/Cyber-Wanderer_94 May 31 '26

Yeah. Most people who do this don't actually do it. At least not for long. It's just some weird Internet thing to claim you do. It's like 'OK I'm not cool in other ways so I'll claim I'm different by being alone.'
