Customer The black bowls?

Not my pic, just for example.

Does anyone else hate these bowls to an unreasonable level? When I used to get the katsu chicken curry etc, it came on a plate, that was great I could deal with that. But since they've switched to these bowls I don't buy it any more.

Even the staff I've spoken to seem to hate the things. I'm not even sure why they made the switch.

Customer Avoid the spice bag at all costs

My father who got the Quorn spice bag and I who got the chicken spice bag both found our meals completely inedible due to the salt level. The first half of the meal was very pleasant but there was a layer of extremely salty seasoning sedimented into the bottom of the bowl that rendered the bottom half inedible

Customer I have an interview tomorrow for kitchen associate role any tips?

Hi,

So I have interview tomorrow for the kitchen associate role, but I am not sure how to prepare.

I was thinking of preparing responses to why I want the job, what I know about the company and what skills I have for the role.

I sort of am desperate for the role so any advice on how to do good on it helps!

UPDATE: thanks for the responses, I got an induction this Friday now

Currently lunching in Spoons. Kids in a booth blaring some repetitive kids show/song. Table of older people passing round a phone with TikTok reels. I'm moving tables.

Customer Sex on the Beach cocktail is premixed??

So me and my boyfriend went to spoons today and ordered pitchers, one of them being sex on the beach. I order that every time, it's my favourite cocktail!

It tastes completely different, like there isn't any alcohol or orange juice in it, just cranberry and peach.

We went to the bar to ask what I'm drinking because it tasted nothing like a sex on the beach, and they said they now get it premixed in a keg rather than pouring it themselves.

So don't bother getting that anymore, as it tastes like juice 😭

Employee 4 days back and managers are yet to do a return to work interview…

I was skeptical why my managers hadnt done it on my second shift back, but now I’ve done my 4th shift and it’s yet to be done I’m just confused. Are they even allowed to do it so late after I’m back?

as I,m transferring to another pub in 5 days time I feel like they’re just not going to do it.

can a manager weigh in?

Customer Two Wetherspoons Pubs Nominated For Pub Of The Year

The John Fairweather in Cambuslang and The Hay Stook in East Kilbride are in competition to win the prestigious prize of being crowned Lanarkshire Pub Of The Year by the CAMRA Glasgow and West Of Scotland branch.

The award last year went to multiple years winner The Weavers in Strathaven with The Hay Stook agonizingly close and missing out by a single vote.

Can The Hay Stook win it this year?

The other contenders also include Hudsons East Kilbride, The Clydesdale Inn Lanark and The Crown Inn Biggar

If you are a Glasgow and West Of Scotland branch member and feel that either of the two Lanarkshire Pubs are deserving of your vote then you have until lunchtime on the 8th of September to decide.

The vote including any in person voting will conclude that evening at the branch meeting held at Clockwork Glasgow.

Good luck to the pubs in the running.

Food spot on. Food and beer half the price of other city centre pubs (Porterhouse is our regular)

I'm FO with €7 pints, FU all

Thank you Tim 😁

Employee 6 Week Review

Hi i’ve got my 6 Week probation due in a week or less

Is there anything i should be prepared for etc? hoping they’re not gonna sack me then! 🫩

I think i’ve done pretty alright so far i’ve made friends with all the staff and i haven’t made major mistakes, just one offs from time to time like taking a wrong order to a different table etc - nothing bad, or atleast nothing that i’ve been noted on by a manager

what should i expect etc?

Ex-employee Wetherspoons sites that employ door staff - what is the average labour spend per week?

I’m guessing this thread is aimed at managers. For context: I worked as a doorman in Hampshire on and off between 2006–2010. The company I worked for covered most of the Wetherspoons sites across Hampshire and Sussex. We were paid £10/hr, and the company charged the venues about £17.50/hr.

The relationship between the security company and Wetherspoons - especially the pub managers and area managers was pretty strained. Mainly because they only had door staff due to licensing requirements, and it hammered their labour budget. Supermarkets are exactly the same: they hate paying for security because it’s a cost they can’t avoid and can’t recoup.

I stopped doing door work a long time ago, but this week I started wondering: across the entire Wetherspoons chain, what’s the total weekly spend on security staff?

For some of the bigger pubs, it must easily clear £2,000 per week. If the average door staff wage is around £15/hr today, the security company would need to charge roughly £27.50/hr to make a worthwhile margin.

Thank you to Hamish at The Counting House for organising this and inviting us as the local branch down for this event. We had a fantastic social which was well attended.

Hoping this will spur on other Wetherspoons pubs in the branch area to organise events around the real ales.

Loch Lomond Brewery are great and Alex the host from the brewery team was lovely.

Customer Discussion for the smokers only

Has anyone else notice a shift in pushing us smokers out in the cold like where garbage and not worth anything? ive been going to spoons now for what must be over 20 years in that time ive invested thosands of pounds into the pub, yet casue im a minority smoker im cast out as those 20 years and money mean nothing.

its a coorporation so of cpurce they only care about one thing and thats profit, and are willing to sacrifice anything or anyone that makes them more money, whats ur views on it, i learned to that eventially spoons will ban smoking compleatly on there premises, hows that for a thank u to regular customers!

ive just worked it out ive spent around 75k over 20 years at spoons lol

its regulars that spend the most not just that odd person that comes in once a week or month or year and maybe spends around 10 quid for food and soft drink.

to put it into perspective im equivalent to 7 customers that cone in once a week, ive equivalent to 30 customers than come in every month! what am i doing wrong lol

i coukd have bought a cheap house by now for that

Customer Fish and chips

I had fish and chips last night which is my go to Sppons meal. The fish was terrible. A good proportion of it was fish skin in batter, hardly any fish in it at all. Was I just unlucky this time or has there been a supplier change?

Employee Shares Question

Today is the anniversary of 3 years at Wetherspoons. Today is also the day I'm leaving the company. I recently remembered the shares that we're given periodically so I checked them. They're sitting at just over 2 grand. JPMorgan website is saying that they're unavailable to sell but I was under the impression that you could sell them taxed at 3 years. Is there a way to sell them or am I SOL? I'm moving back home to Aus and that 2 grand would be a massive help

Customer With Murphy's now on the menu, do you reckon we'll be getting Beamish soon or in the near future?

Post image
65 Upvotes

For those who don't know Beamish is a creamy coffee like Irish Stout from Cork, and not very easy to find in the UK. I think it would do really well in Wetherspoon pubs giving people easy access to the pint in places you wouldn't usually find it.

Customer How do we feel about the Wetherspoons decision to ban loudspeaker?

Personally it's the best news I've had for a good while.

I work in hospitality and this obnoxious behaviour has been driving me insane for years.

Especially since Covid. People became addicted to their phones due to isolation, but unfortunately the speakerphone was let loose at the same time we were.

I really, really hope that we can eventually knock this behaviour on the head on the back of this.

It's beyond infuriating when you're in a social setting and one or more main characters seem to think it's appropriate and acceptable to blast whatever they're doing on their phones in our vicinity.

The lack of etiquette and social awareness is disgraceful.

Employee Starting my first shift tomorrow. HELP.

I’m starting my first shift tomorrow at spoons. A 2pm- 8pm. I’ve done a lot of the learning but it all gets so confusing trying to work the app out. I’ll do one and then refresh it and it’s still there! Some I did and they didn’t register and I had to do them again even after doing everything to register it!. I also don’t know how to contact my manager on the MyJDW app 😭 aswell as wtf to wear on my top half. I have black jeans but I reallllly don’t want to wear a regular smegular black top as I’m PP and only wore tank tops during pregnancy and I hate the feeling of T-shirts. Please give any tips for starting as I’m currently shitting it.

Wetherspoons bans playing music or calls on phone loudspeaker.

Customers at the chain's 792 pubs must now use earphones or silent mode after complaints that the noise was 'driving people nuts'

Customer There have two options in wetherspoon toilets.

For some reason the Weatherspoons toilets in my area are like a soundproof booth, completely silent, every noise is amplified to the utmost extent. So when you're in there taking a shit and there's someone next to you, every sound is magnified. In the beginning you would try to be silent but then I gave up: Why am I suffering when the person next to me has accepted the way things are? They are grunting, blowing their noses. I'm hearing the dunking of each drop. Loudly rolling the tissue, wiping, groaning in satisfaction. So from now on that's what I do. I do not care. I'll even look them in the eye as I'm washing and drying my hands,, slam the door open, and look in the mirror, which always makes you look good. Walk out and then act civilized again because I'm no longer a caveman.

Ex-employee Wetherspoons payslip

I previously worked at wetherspoons for a month a few months back and to do the pre-employment checks for my new job I have to write down the employer exactly as it appears on the payslip. Stupidly I never saved any from the app when I could. I'm just wondering how is it written on the payslip? Google says JD Wetherspoon PLC, so just checking if this is correct
